Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

@HippeePrincess hello lovely! We are just in the process of buying a house and should be in mid Feb, we want to settle in and have a summer holiday just us two before we start trying for a little one! We'd like to start trying whilst we're away, I know it can take some time but we would like to just have a bit of time in our new home too! I can't wait though, I've been waiting for a while for my other half to say he's ready 🙈

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 22:42

@HippeePrincess we nearly started trying straight away after the MC. When I MC my second pregnancy we did immediately start trying again and immediately fell pregnant with DD2 and that definitely helped me. DH was adamant that we weren't going to reflexively try for baby #3 after the MC last July though, which made sense due to the several good reasons we have for waiting till May but I really wanted to! Instead I obsess until I can start...

@itsnearlymytime that sounds like a good plan, enjoy your time as a couple and have one last couples holiday! They are very different once you have kids 😂 Xx

@WingingIt09 that's our thoughts exactly!! I did try and see if he wanted to start trying sooner but he's desperate to have one last holiday just us two, so I agreed! As I said this is the first time he's told me he's ready so I won't push it 🙈 xx

Jennifer89 · 10/01/2022 23:08

@HippeePrincess welcome! Sure summer time will come before you know it will be nice to enjoy your new home and relax a bit before ttc.

Jennifer89 · 10/01/2022 23:14

Sorry meant to tag @itsnearlytime above..
Welcome Smile

@HippeePrincess dh's eye operation hopefully won't delay things much. Plan to ttc around April/May so fingers crossed he gets appointment in next couple months and will take couple weeks to recover from the surgery..

itsnearlymytime · 11/01/2022 06:54

@Jennifer89 thank you lovely! Yes hopefully it comes around quickly, I'm so excited that I think it's gonna go really slowly haha! But with the house that should keep me busy!! ☺️☺️

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2022 07:07

@itsnearlymytime definitely enjoy your holiday first. We've never been away without kids! Which is why I don't want to try until May when we have our first child free holiday🤩

itsnearlymytime · 11/01/2022 07:20

@Dreamingof3 thank you! Yes that was my partners thoughts! I just can't believe he actually came to me to say he's ready this year, I've been waiting a while to hear those words 🙈

Oh amazing, where are you going?

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2022 07:25

@itsnearlymytime that's so exciting! You have plenty of time to start obsessing like me and @WingingIt09 😅
We're going to Corfu! I was worrying about leaving my girls for a week and so we compromised and my parents are taking them on holiday at the same time to the same town so that we're not so far away 😅 I still plan to have a child free week just feel a bit better having them closer

itsnearlymytime · 11/01/2022 07:32

@Dreamingof3 😂 honestly I'm already on every thread looking at other peoples tests, so excited haha!

Oh bless that's such a good idea and lovely for them to get away as well! A child free week sounds lovely but especially knowing they're not too far away, such a good idea !! X

HippeePrincess · 11/01/2022 10:32

@itsnearlymytime we're needing to move before ttc as well, the holiday sounds like a great idea!

@WingingIt09 your dh sounds very sensible, it must have been really hard to hold off!

Neither have we @Dreamingof3 DP and I have not really had any time without my kids unless you count every other weekend for like a day and a half lol.

I really want a proper holiday!!!

itsnearlymytime · 11/01/2022 10:56

@HippeePrincess ooh :) when are you planning on moving?

DanisEndo · 11/01/2022 11:14

@HippeePrincess we're also in the process of buying a house! We defo want to be in before we start trying, and god i would love a holiday abroad but we have a dog and think the cost of the house will wipe us out for a few months till we can build our buffer back anyway, so a few UK trips might be on the cards instead!

WingingIt09 · 11/01/2022 11:44

@HippeePrincess yes it definitely was the sensible decision. He is definitely the level headed one of the relationship.

@DanisEndo @HippeePrincess we are considering moving house. We can make do where we are with baby #3 but it will mean DD2 giving up her bedroom and moving to share with DD1 as although we have 4 bedrooms due to an attic conversion, DH is now permanently working from home so the 4th bedroom has had to become his office. Also downstairs space is already rather limited and we only have one bathroom and I feel at the very least we need a downstairs WC with a family of 5, even if only so my baths don't get interrupted by children needing a wee 😂🙈 Problem is affording the next size house as everything is so expensive and there's not much out there atm

Ohh these house moves are exciting! We don’t need to move, but do need to give consideration to the practical arrangements now both DH and I are WFH.

I have resisted the urge to look at nursery ideas, but don’t think it will be long until I cave!

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 11/01/2022 15:19

We moved a couple of months ago and now we won't have to worry about one having a bigger room than the other as the rooms are all pretty much the same size. However we probably won't bother decorating the room straight away as baby would be in with us for at least the first 6 months. Will keep it as a spare bedroom for guests for as long as possible.

We have a bigger, sunnier garden now too which will be lovely in good weather with a toddler :)

DanisEndo · 11/01/2022 16:01

@WingingIt09 we're in a 1 bed maisonette, 2 of us WFH, with an ever growing golden retriever - we have no choice but to move ASAP whether we try or not :') in the process of getting a lovely edwardian 3 bed terraced house with enclosed garden and biiiig kitchen diner. All recently refurbished so no works to do, just decorate!

We'll have one room as an office/dressing room, the master then the nursery/spare and will also try and keep it as a spare room for as long as possible. We might then look at converting the loft either into an additional bedroom or office if possible.

Although im quite a 'rational' person Im oddly scared of jinxing anything and convinced if we were to make it a nursery before we were a few months in something would go wrong. mad i know.

Im so excited to get some space though and not live entirely under eachothers feet all day!

WingingIt09 · 11/01/2022 16:27

@DanisEndo yes that must be a bit crowded! Will be nice to get some space when you complete on the new house. I am both excited to look for a new house and simultaneously dreading the idea of attempting to move as it's such a nightmare trying to get it all sorted when selling and buying 🙈 We did try to move end of 2020 but then our buyer pulled out and there was nothing on the market for us so we gave up. DH has now had a promotion so bigger budget available for us (however prices have continued to rise in a crazy fashion!)

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2022 16:28

@danisendo I'm the same, logically i know it makes no difference but I can't get anything too early!

We're fortunate with our bedroom.sizes that our 3 bed will be enough for the girls to share and then eventually third room for the baby. However my partner may go for a job later this year that would mean moving so we'll need to then find something similar as a 4 bed would be out of our price range 😒
Satisfied my urge to pee on a stick yesterday 🤣

BlueberryMacaron · 11/01/2022 17:32

Can I join too? I'm nearly 30 and hoping to start TTC our first later this year. I have a few things planned for the first half of the year that I don't want to be pregnant for, so not planning to come off my birth control until June. Last year my plan was to start trying early 2023, but decided to bring it forward slightly. So many of my friends have struggled conceiving and that's very much on my mind. I guess I need to start thinking about folic acid soon but when I started looking into it I got a bit overwhelmed by all the options so just ended up closing down the tab.

OCM19 · 11/01/2022 18:25

Welcome @BlueberryMacaron 👋 I just bought bog standard folic acid from the supermarket. I’ve only just started taking it though. It sounds like you have an exciting year ahead of you!

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 11/01/2022 18:33

Definitely get on the folic acid Blueberry! As OCM says the supermarket own brand is fine.

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2022 19:06

Hi @blueberrymacaron 👋
I just got tesco folic acid and I take vitamin d too

Jennifer89 · 11/01/2022 19:38

@BlueberryMacaron welcome! I have started taking the folic acid + vitamin d tablets from boots once a day, they were pretty cheap.

Anyone else have opinions are ovulation sticks worth it? Wonder if it might put more pressure on ttc when we do it. I have app on my phone and track my period cycle so keeping that in mind when ttc. .

HippeePrincess · 11/01/2022 20:00

@BlueberryMacaron welcome! As the girls have said, any folic acid will do.

We were planning to get the house on the market already but I have been really lazy, then my uncle informed me I was to be a recipient of not an insignificant inheritance so we are waiting for that to come through. In the mean time there is lots in the house to be sorted before it is marketed.

We're in a 2 bed end terrace that I bought myself following my divorce over 5 years ago before DP and I got together, and have 2 opposite sex kids who are now 7 & 10 sharing which isn't ideal. Plus a crackers Spaniel. We could make do with a decent sized 3 bed but usually the third is a box room and we don't want to be in the same position in a few years where we need to move again. So, we are looking for a 4 bed or a 3 bed that has a large room which could be divided. I could not cope without our downstairs loo @WingingIt09

@Jennifer89 I've bought some ovulation tests for my first cycle off contraception so that I know when to do a pregnancy test from. If my ovulation is delayed then I didn't want to be constantly doing a pregnancy test and being disappointed. Below the 6 month mark I do not want to be timing sex to ovulation, I don't want to spoil our sex life and yes I think it does make you stressed, which is not conducive to conception.
