Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

That's what I was thinking about a 7 seater! At least you have the option of adding someone else in!

HippeePrincess · 09/01/2022 16:17

@OCM19 that’s exciting!

@WingingIt09 @Dreamingof3 we had a zafira as an in between car and although I hated it as a car the extra seats and flexibility with having 7 seats was brilliant. Even with 2 older kids in a seat and a booster you can’t take anyone else in an ordinary sized car!

We won’t have 3 in seats my eldest is no longer in a seat so it’s just new baby and current youngest who could have a booster but I do prefer a full car seat, but rear facing (which is what I’ve done to age 2.5-3 previously) does take up more space.

I hired a Peugeot 5008 once and it was pretty good space wise, although me and my family are french car haters so it does reduce the list somewhat.
The Alhambra is a great car but huge! They sometimes come with inbuilt booster seats.

There’s no way we’ll be getting a brand new car so used will be the way forward, current car is 14 years old and I had to buy it on a credit card as the old one died unexpectedly before we could access our savings!

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 17:04

@OCM19 that's so exciting! I'm still waiting for any bleed after coming off my pill a week ago. In a normal month on the pill I'd have had a withdrawal bleed by now 🤷‍♀️ we're not trying until May though so that's not an issue other than I'm impatient to start tracking my cycle 😂

@HippeePrincess @Dreamingof3 our current car is on finance so we will probably just trade that in at the end of the term and then get a new one on finance. I said to DH when we got it 2.5 years ago we should think forward and get one that would take 3 across so we could just pay it off and be finance free but no that wasn't an option for him as it would have meant going to a 7 seater earlier 🙄 I quite like the look of the Peugeot 5008 but will see when I actually start going to dealerships and looking. Think it'll be a case of taking car seats and actually trying all 3 in it, which will be a massive faff! I don't want to buy a car without doing that though. We will have either 3 rear-facing seats or 2 rear-facing and 1 booster. My 4yo is still rear facing atm as her seat rear-faces until 25kg and I feel more comfortable with her that way for safety reasons but might have to swap her to a booster when baby arrives if I can't get all 3 rear facing seats to work in a car that's in budget! She will be 5.5 by that point though so should be ok.

Silly question, but I assume I need to finish the cycle of pills before coming off of them?

Dreamingof3 · 09/01/2022 17:17

@OCM19 I didn't 🤣 I was hoping I could roughly control where mu cycles would fall and stopped mine with almost a week left...we'll see if it worked 😅

@WingingIt09 it's a faff isn't it. We'll have an almost 7 and almost 4 year old by the time another baby arrives, so probably 3 full seats still with baby obviously rear facing

I'm just finishing my withdrawal bleed and I'm so impatient to start testing 🤣 but I think I should wait until at least mid week? Not a clue really 🤷‍♀️

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 17:19

@Dreamingof3 how long did it take for your withdrawal bleed to come? I'm impatient for it to arrive 😂

Hi everyone,

So glad I found this thread! So much great info ☺️ thank you ♥️

I am getting my implant taken out next week and then me and hubby will be TTC. It will be my first but he has a 5 yo from previous relationship. She has been asking for a little sister for a while 🤣

So excited and nervous at the same time!

HippeePrincess · 09/01/2022 18:24

@OCM19 you don’t need to finish the cycle you’re on no.

Welcome @LE68 and good luck

Dreamingof3 · 09/01/2022 18:27

Good luck @LE68

@WingingIt09 I took my last pill either fri/sat and it started Thursday early morning so less than a week, how long have you been waiting now?

OCM19 · 09/01/2022 19:27

Welcome @LE68 Smile

I read that stopping part way through a pack can cause some cycles to go a bit off track…but I’m also impatient! I only have a week and a half left but not sure what to do!

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 19:46

@Dreamingof3 I took my last pill a week ago today. Online it does say it can take 2-4 weeks but I don't have the patience for it to take that long 😂😂

OP posts:
SMD16 · 09/01/2022 19:48

I barely had a period on my weeks break when on the pill. I came off on 20th November and didn't get my first period until 02nd January. It was a long old wait 😂

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 19:50

@SMD16 oh no I hope I'm not waiting that long! I've had periods each month while I've been in the pill so I was expecting it to turn up this week...clearly not 😂

OP posts:
Dreamingof3 · 09/01/2022 19:54

That's so annoying @WingingIt09! I had periods on mine too (just longer cycles) so I'm hoping things aren't too disrupted 🤷‍♀️

HippeePrincess · 09/01/2022 20:07

The thing is the period you get on the pill isn’t a period at all it’s just breakthrough bleeding which men pill designers made because they thought women wanted to still get their monthly bleed Hmm. It happens due to a drop in hormones when you stop taking the pill for the week/take the placebo pills at the end of the pack depending which one you’re on.

SMD16 · 09/01/2022 20:23

Sorry yes I never got the withdrawal bleed, just so used to saying period as it's easier to explain to the other half haha!

HippeePrincess · 09/01/2022 20:42

I've probably already said this before, it took me more than 3 months to get my proper period after stopping the pill and I don't think I was on track for that first cycle to be regular, however I got pregnant in that first cycle so don't worry if your cycles takes a while to arrive or settle, you can still be fertile and it might not really impact the time it takes to conceive too much.

Nyxxie · 09/01/2022 21:02

@HippeePrincess that's really good to know. I've just finished my withdrawal bleed after coming off the pill and feel a bit in limbo with no idea when I might ovulate or get a natural period now!

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 21:50

@HippeePrincess that's good to know. I would still like the withdrawal bleed though as I'd usually have had one by now 😂

Picking up on the earlier topic of things we search way too soon, I'm having fun researching third baby pregnancy announcements this evening 😅

Dreamingof3 · 09/01/2022 22:04

Ooh @WingingIt09 I've got mine all planned out. We're hoping to keep it quite til we have a gender scan at 16 weeks

Got things in my etsy basket already I've even started knitting a blanket...I think I'm a bit mad 🤣

WingingIt09 · 09/01/2022 22:33

@Dreamingof3 ooo tell me! I'm finding a few different ones (last time I get to do this so milking it 😂😂). I want a fun way to tell DH which I'll do immediately after a confirmed test. A way to tell my mum and MiL which I'll do around 8/9 weeks (I will probably book an early private scan), a way to tell my daughters and then a way to tell the extended family... will do both of those after dating scan. I'm quite liking the 'big sister training school' photo ideas for telling extended family. Not sure on the others yet...

Dreamingof3 · 10/01/2022 06:57

@Dreamingof3 I'm going to do a video, set the scan pic out on a nice blanket and have my girls hands over it, then they move them away to reveal...zoom in on the pic and then as you zoom back out there's a little outfit or something that says born in 2023, and then im going to get one of those little discs that says 'it's a boy/girl'...need to find a song to go on it now 🤣

When I told me partner about our second I had our eldest give him a card that said 'I'm so lucky to have a daddy like you, I've decided to share you with someone new', this time I will probably just wave the test in front of his face 🤣

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 09:00

@Dreamingof3 sounds lovely! I used mugs saying 'keep calm I'm going to me a mummy/daddy' to tell my husband with my first. My second I just walked into the room and went so how does an October due date sound.... waited for him to clock what I'd said then handed him a test. I'll need to do something not involving the children for him as I don't want them knowing until after the dating scan. Definitely using the children for everyone else though. I think for my children I might sit and read a book with them, then have ultrasound pictures at the end of both of them and then baby so that they ask who is in each one and I say that's DD1 when she was in mummy's tummy, that's DD2 when she was in mummy's tummy, "that's your new baby brother or sister who is growing in mummy's tummy now"

Dreamingof3 · 10/01/2022 10:36

Ahh I love that idea for telling the kids. We didn't really do that before as our eldest was only 2.5 so she just eventually sort of figured it out 😂 we got her a t shirt saying this girl is being promoted to big sister and just waited for our parents to twig but I'm not sure about announcing a third. We may just send them the video as a big surprise!
My grandad bless him has 6 great granddaughters and he adores them but I know he'd be thrilled with a boy so I think if it was we'd probably go see him first

I'm too excited 😂 did the school run this morning thinking ooh this time next year I'll hopefully be heavily pregnant 😬
