Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

I’m having to work from home with the toddler and husband there too. I was looking forward to the peace and quiet of work 😂

Nyxxie · 17/02/2022 20:36

I'm in the south east of England. A few local schools closing

Amber17 · 17/02/2022 20:55

Came home from a work trip a day early as there won't be a reasonable way to travel back tomorrow and I don't want to be stuck away til the weekend.

FourOclock · 17/02/2022 21:02

We're slightly worried about some of the farm buildings but they're hanging on by a thread anyway. Unbelievably DS' preschool is still open tomorrow and it's fully outdoors! They must be mad but I suspect there will be a last minute closure in the morning.

HippeePrincess · 17/02/2022 21:25

@hevann that is a bit crazy, although I think there’s a lot of merit in concentrating on career first, I didn’t and had to start later and I’m not even concentrating properly on it now and it’s definitely been hard with already having the kids.

We’re on half term so at home anyway, hoping there’s no issue with my kids being picked up tomorrow by their dad (midlands but really windy last night!)

We’ve set a bit of a deadline to progress on to the next step by putting a deposit down on a storage unit and renting a van in a few weeks time to get the declutter sorted.

lj2022 · 18/02/2022 09:57

Hope you're all safe in this crazy weather. I've cancelled all my meetings and just working from home. definitely a day for not leaving the house

lj2022 · 18/02/2022 10:11

I am 10 DPO today and I've now had spotting for 5 days. I keep thinking it's AF as in the mornings as it's slightly heavy when I wake up but then there's nothing but a few droplets throughout the day and when I wipe. My head is pounding and I feel like the full inside of my abdomen and back are aching despite this I really feel this isn't my month (well not expecting it to be) but spotting has never been usual for me when I've been off contraception in the past. Does anyone else suffer long periods of spotting ? Or similar symptoms when body is getting used to not being on contraception

FourOclock · 18/02/2022 12:46

@lj2022 it's so tricky to know what's going on isn't it? I can't remember what I was like after contraception in all honesty but I always get spotting before AF. I seem to have so many symptoms when I'm due on but when I'm actually pregnant I have no symptoms in the two week wait at all it's very odd!

lj2022 · 18/02/2022 13:36

@FourOclock it's crazy isn't it. I have honestly never had spotting before but things will have changed in my body since the 5 years since my last break from contraception. Just trying to figure out the new normal just hope this isn't the new normal though as I've felt horrendous all week

Amber17 · 18/02/2022 16:57

Which vitamins are you all taking? I got the BetterYou conception spray as I'm not a huge tablet fan but it tastes vile... Definitely not pomegranate and raspberry flavour as it claims!

WingingIt09 · 18/02/2022 17:09

@Amber17 I take the seven seas trying for a baby ones - they are tiny so really easy to swallow!

Me and DH are taking the pregnacare/wellman his’n’hers vitamins. The same ones we took when we conceived DD so superstition more than anything 😂

Cheekypeach · 18/02/2022 17:21

Is anyone else due to test around 26th March? If my cycles go as predicted (they’re v regular) that will be my first testing date ❤️ although I fully expect to crack and test a week early like with DD…

NarnieJoy · 18/02/2022 17:32

@lj2022 I had a few months of spotting before period when I first came off my pill, and this would day 22-27 of my cycle, I now have a little spotting but only 2 days before my cycle which is abound days 27-28, which made me less anxious that my cycles were too short for conception. But the plot thickens because I was diagnosed with cervical ectropician as an effect of being on the pill for years and these cervical changes can cause pre-period spotting so I have been reassured that it should resolve and get better over time. So it might be a good idea to speak to your GP, if it's causing you anxiety.

NarnieJoy · 18/02/2022 17:34

Also just as another reassurance they said my condition as far as they were concerned should not stop me from getting pregnant. And as always a disclaimer, I am not a medical professional so if anyone sees this and is worried, speak to your GP who has the power to order tests and look at your cervix!!

FourOclock · 18/02/2022 17:52

I'm taking the Seven seas trying for a baby vitamins too, took Pregnacare with my last two so if this month isn't successful I will probably go back to those 😅 but the seven seas are a lot more pleasant to take.

I'm due to test around the 6th March!

Duckandsarah · 18/02/2022 18:07

Hi all, could I join?

I have a DD who is nearly 1.5yrs and we will hopefully start not preventing from may/June time. I’m not on contraception as we use the fertility awareness method.

I’m not taking any vitamins yet but will probably just take folic acid and vit d from next month like I did last time. Pregnacare made me feel ever so sick and altered my cycle so I’m not going to risk it again!

I think there’s quite a few on here with a pandemic baby first time round… would be nice to experience pregnancy as it was supposed to be if we are lucky enough to succeed! I really struggled during lockdown with my first!

Hope everyone is safe from the storm and good luck to those trying this month!

tryingtryinggone · 18/02/2022 20:31

@Amber17 I’m taking the seven seas pregnancy+ vitamins as I’m breastfeeding still. I can’t stand the pregnacare vitamins as I think they taste awful.

@Duckandsarah hello! I’m in a similar position to you. My daughter was born October 2020 so we also didn’t get to experience pregnancy and newborn days ‘normally’ (whatever that means). I’m also not on any contraception and have quite regular cycles so don’t have that to worry about thankfully. Did it take you long to conceive with your first?

LucyLoopyLu · 18/02/2022 21:09

Hi @duckandsarah! If you're not on contraception at the moment fingers crossed for a quick BFP for you!

I'm taking a preconception multivitamin but they don't seem to be causing any weirdness at the moment. Although my period was late this month (still got the coil so not exciting) and I was pleased because I then likely won't be getting my period on holiday... now suffering with horrendous period pain. Does anyone else get 2 or 3 periods a year that are just twice as bad as the others or is it just me?

Duckandsarah · 18/02/2022 21:15

@tryingtryinggone that is very similar. How did you find pregnancy last time? I found it a bit weird not having many midwife appointments or anything, and I wasn’t allowed my partner at the birth, so I’m hoping that will be different next time.

It only took once last time but I’m very aware we probably won’t be that lucky again and also that I’m older/heavier/trying to get my diet and exercise back on track… that’s why I need to psych myself up a bit for may/june.
What about you?

NarnieJoy · 18/02/2022 21:15

@LucyLoopyLu yep, I’ll get terrible pain that can make me faint every third one! When are you getting your coil out? When I got mine out I had a bad period after but then it got better but then I have got on this cycle of every odd one

LucyLoopyLu · 18/02/2022 21:45

@Narniejoy 30th March so a few weeks to wait. That's when me and my husband agreed, although I rang up hoping the appointment might be sooner but that's the earliest I could get! 😄 I'm sure it'll come round quickly

tryingtryinggone · 18/02/2022 22:28

@Duckandsarah it definitely wasn’t what I had expected. I spend the whole thing working from home which obviously had some positives but was just very isolating as with the newborn days in lockdown.
That’s awful your partner wasn’t allowed in at all?! I can’t believe that was ever imposed. Actually mind blowing and so damaging for so many women. I was induced and didn’t go to delivery suite until I was fully dilated so my husband was there for around an hour before the birth. I also demanded to leave instead of staying the night after she was born as I didn’t want to be apart from my husband which in hindsight I probably shouldn’t have done. Fingers crossed for a better second experience.

I got pregnant cycle 2 but then had a miscarriage and then pregnant again 3 cycles after that. Doesn’t sound like long when I say it now but it felt like such a long time then 😅 fingers crossed for quick bfp’s for everyone! And yep, definitely feeling the older and heavier part too! Haha

lj2022 · 19/02/2022 00:27

@NarnieJoy thank you for your kind message I did think it was to do with coming off the pill but I have been bugging my Dr about my smear for 6 months now and they keep saying I don't need it even though I have had cervical changes in the last 3 years. Just going to keep pushing though! AF finally arrived tonight but your cycle sounds similar to mines AF usually between day 27-29 for me and hoping the spotting just takes some time to settle over the next few months. Glad yours shouldn't impact your chances of getting pregnant that's probably relieved your anxiety a lot

FourOclock · 19/02/2022 06:40

It must have been awful to have a baby mid lockdown, especially a first baby. My second was born just before lockdown so we were really lucky in that sense that pregnancy/birth etc wasn't impacted. Went a bit stir crazy with two under two (almost two under one!) home in lockdown but we were also doing a big renovation so was a bit too stressed and preoccupied for visitors anyway. Really looking forward to having a baby in a functioning house this time!
