Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

@Sannah987 yes my girls have a lovely relationship and it's lovely to see them play together. Of course they also fight like cats and dogs at times 😂

Me and dh have started saving now Jan onwards towards baby stuff fund. We are thinking to save about £2500. Hoping that will be enough to cover stuff, as will be first baby we will need everything new..

HippeePrincess · 18/01/2022 13:49

@mooonbaby I found 1-2 a doddle compared to 0-1, even finding myself a single parent 10 weeks in. Had a good routine with my eldest at that point though and baby just had to slot in.

OCM19 · 18/01/2022 14:28

@Jennifer89 definitely get good quality baby items second hand (apart from car seat and mattress). We bought a beautiful Silver Cross sleigh cotbed for a fraction of the new price and it was perfect condition. I wouldn’t but much new as they use it for such a small period of time.

Jennifer89 · 18/01/2022 15:00

@OCM19 I will definitely look into that as would be handy especially with larger purchases like cot to get 2nd hand as with mattress, bedding etc the costs add up. Received some John Lewis vouchers which we are planning to save for baby items Grin

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 18/01/2022 15:08

Definitely recommend second hand for most things. They grow out of stuff so quickly, not just clothes but also play gyms, jumperpoos, moses baskets etc.

Dreamingof3 · 18/01/2022 15:25

You can get some beautiful things second hand. I'm already looking at snuzpods on Facebook Market place 🤣 there was also a beautiful nursery set (cot bed, drawers and wardrobe) that had been customised and was just stunning for around £400 and I wish it'd been put up a few months later 🤣 I think people would think I'd gone mad if I'd bought it considering no one knows we want to ttc at all!
I'll also be using Facebook and vinted for clothes bundles

Jennifer89 · 18/01/2022 15:37

@Vasectomyreversalhopeful that's true seems waste of money to buy everything new as babies go out of stuff so quickly.

Heard Whirli is good too for baby/toddler toys

HippeePrincess · 18/01/2022 15:53

I think if you can find lightly used items it’s worth getting, I used our cot bed for more than 8 years and It had life left in it. DS was is in til he was a few months shy of 5 and he wasn’t a small child, then DD used it til she was 3.5 (she was in my room/bed til she was 1). I’m not sure a well used second hand cot would have lasted the 8 years though. I didn’t think I’d have more babies so I sold the furniture.
I’d buy the best and safest car seats and mattress you can afford, the rest it’s worth looking second hand if you can find some good items.

mooonbaby · 18/01/2022 19:47

That’s good to know @HippeePrincess, I’ve heard it can go either way.

My 16 month old is still a boob monster and is such a bad sleeper so I’m worried about how I’ll cope with a newborn as well. Ideally I’d have liked him to be sleeping through the night before getting pregnant but that could take forever and I don’t want to wait. I might as well get all the sleepless nights over and done with 🤷‍♀️

Dreamingof3 · 18/01/2022 20:17

My new ovulation tests arrived and I've just done one, still barely anything there, but definitely something 🤷‍♀️ maybe it's going to take ages to come back!

WingingIt09 · 18/01/2022 21:28

@Dreamingof3 mine seem to have got lighter today (not that they were dark to start with) so think it might be ages before mine comes back too.

@WingingIt09 how annoying! Will you keep testing daily?

OCM19 · 18/01/2022 22:08

@mooonbaby my DS didn’t sleep through until he had just turned 2, but I promise there’s an end in sight! Smile

WingingIt09 · 18/01/2022 22:10

@Dreamingof3 probably, it satisfies the urge to POAS 😂😂

🤣🤣 same here

hevann · 19/01/2022 11:52

So I took my last pill on Sunday and now feel like I'm getting period cramps like I used to before I started my period when I had them many moons ago! Lol! I go to the toilet to check & nothing!

Has anyone previously had a withdrawal bleed quite quickly after stopping the pill? I feel like it's all in my head but I just don't know.

@WingingIt09 have you had yours yet? x

WingingIt09 · 19/01/2022 11:59

@hevann nope no bleed over here - now 2.5 weeks on! Had cramps in a few days following stopping so I kept thinking it was going to turn up and I'm the same again today! Keep popping to the toilet expecting it to have started!

OP posts:
hevann · 19/01/2022 12:14

@WingingIt09 oh no! I might be the same then. I can only imagine how frustrated you are I'm only a couple of days but your a couple of weeks! x

OCM19 · 19/01/2022 12:46

@hevann I started my bleed 4 days after taking my last pill, I hope you both get yours soon xx

NarnieJoy · 19/01/2022 12:57

Hiya, can I join?

I just joined MN after about a year of lurking because we weren't ready. DH isn't ready he says until JULY... what a long 5 months this is going to be. But hoping this lovely group of ladies will have lots of BFP to keep me going until then, I just get a sense of excitement every time I see one! Hoping to achieve my goal of a half-marathon beforehand but I've read that too much running can stop ov? Does anyone know anything about this?

OCM19 · 19/01/2022 13:31

@NarnieJoy welcome 👋 ohh exciting, any reason why your DH has said July?

Worryant · 19/01/2022 13:32

Hello! Is it ok if I join - it seems such a friendly thread. This is our first month of trying to conceive baby no. 2 (we have a 3.5 year old). Just be nice to have a safe space to chat as I’m not really telling anyone in real life. X

Dreamingof3 · 19/01/2022 13:33

@NarnieJoy how exciting! I've never heard anything about the running though...i always just assumed if you regularly exercised before then continuing whilst ttc was fine 🤷‍♀️
You aren't too far behind some of us 🙂 I will be be trying properly from April/may ❤

Dreamingof3 · 19/01/2022 13:34

FYI if you want to avoid a heart attack don't put a pregnancy test and ovulation test next to each other 😅😅
