Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

@OCM19

Welcome *@ttcin2022* 👋 are you nearly ready for your wedding?

I would suggest you start taking folic acid now if you can, ready for when you start TTC Smile

Thank you! Getting there with the wedding planning but to be honest I'm more excited to TTC 😅 I'm going to start folic acid this month, just need to pick which vitamins to take ☺️
Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 13/01/2022 09:33

Gosh that is complex Hippee, definitely sounds as though you need to take professional advice.

Welcome ttcin2022, what an exciting time for you!

We have had all the information through from the clinic about recovery etc and have told PILs as we need need to provide childcare for a couple of days while DH has the op.

Dreamingof3 · 13/01/2022 10:41

Welcome @ttcin2022 @lifeisnteasy

Lots of us trying around the same time 🤩

@summerbreeze111 this is me all the time 🤣 I keep getting drawn to all the boy things though which I already think is pointless! Can't wait to be able to start looking properly

OCM19 · 13/01/2022 19:14

Evening ladies. So I’ve been bleeding since this morning, 3 days after stopping my pill. If this is the withdrawal bleed, do I then start tracking my cycle from when it finishes or do I have to wait for a proper period? I know it will take a while to properly understand this cycle, but just wondering if I can start now Smile

Dreamingof3 · 13/01/2022 19:25

@OCM19 I've just started tracking mine so I've got everything there. But if its a withdrawal bleed just be mindful that the predicted fertile dates will probably be off. I have started doing ovulation tests every other day just to see what's going on....completely negative currently! But hoping at least I'll see roughly when it is and then know when to expect a period 🤷‍♀️

OCM19 · 13/01/2022 19:33

Thanks @Dreamingof3, I’m not sure what it is as I didn’t get this last time, but assuming it likely will be. I will get some cheap ovulation tests and start tracking

Dreamingof3 · 13/01/2022 19:41

@OCM19 it's quite satisfying doing tests 🤣

Gizzy93 · 13/01/2022 19:49

I started taking prenatals. Hoping to be TTC by my birthday in March, or DFs birthday in April!

WingingIt09 · 13/01/2022 19:59

@OCM19 that's good your withdrawal bleed has already arrived. I'm still waiting for mine 🙈 I've started tracking BBT to see if I can work out what is going on!

@Dreamingof3 I'm the same when out, my eyes are drawn to baby boy clothes even though I know I won't need them 😂

OP posts:
OCM19 · 13/01/2022 20:01

@Dreamingof3 I can imagine the satisfaction, I didn’t use them last time.

@WingingIt09 I was quite shocked this morning, not sure what’s going on! How long do you have to test for each morning? I’m not sure my toddler would let me sit still long enough!

Dreamingof3 · 13/01/2022 20:02

@WingingIt09 I was going to ask if you'd had yours yet! May just be that you're going to start a proper cycle 🤷‍♀️ who knows what goes on in there. Im glad I stopped my pill when I did as I was going to wait a bit longer but I think that wouldn't have left me as much time.as I need to settle things down

WingingIt09 · 13/01/2022 20:10

@OCM19 doing your BBT takes less than a minute - you have to take your temperature every morning before you move around/get up and should be around the same time. Also needs to be after 3 hours solid sleep so if you have a lot of night wake ups not massively reliable. Once I've had a period I will be using ovulation tests like @Dreamingof3 but don't want to start those until I've had a period.

@Dreamingof3 yes I wonder if I'm going straight into a proper cycle rather than having withdrawal bleed. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for everyone's thoughts re my finances, I had wondered about a financial advisor @DanisEndo but I thought the amount I have would be a bit "small fry" to warrant it. It's really useful re his work place pension thank you.
A solicitor will certainly draw up the documents but from experience they ask you want you want drawn up/to achieve rather than give advice on what might be a fair situation.
Definitely going to start looking at life and or mortgage insurances again.

@OCM19 I'd track cycle day 1 as the first day of withdrawal bleeding but just bear in mind this cycle may or may not end up being weird. You could start to track it but without expectation? And without applying this information to any following cycles.

I found some mini-pills in my drawer during a tidy up, my contraceptive rings will have run out early-mid March, however I just know we aren't going to be ready house wise or in other areas, and so considering whether I have a few months on the mini-pill or tracking my natural cycle and trying not to TTC whilst we get sorted. I don't want to waste time and know it could take a while but it's be just my luck to fall pregnant straight away and then be unable to move!

WingingIt09 · 15/01/2022 11:46

So I've been tracking BBT to start to work out my cycles since coming off the pill 13 days ago (although only started temping a week ago). This morning I've had a jump in temp, but I was out for dinner for a friends 30th last night and had several cocktails. Went to bed at usual time and temped at my usual time so only difference is increased number of drinks! Can alcohol affect BBT or have my cycles already gone back and I've ovulated (this seems unlikely to me as I'd thought it would take longer?)

@WingingIt09 I'm not sure on bbt! You didn't get a withdrawal bleed did you so maybe you've just gone straight onto a normal cycle? What happens to your temp when you ovulate

Dreamingof3 · 15/01/2022 12:33

OK I looked it up 😅 so it dips a bit then you ovulate then it goes up? So if it stays up after today for a day or so then you've ovulate 🤷‍♀️ is that right😂

I've done a few ovulation tests this week and they're completely negative

WingingIt09 · 15/01/2022 12:46

@Dreamingof3 I'm not overly sure either 😂 I tried doing BBT widen TTC my second but never got clear readings as I was up too much in the night with Dd1. I think if it stays up then I've ovulated but if it dips down again I'll assume it's the alcohol... I would be very surprised if it's ovulation as it's only been 2 weeks since I came off the pill and I wouldn't expect things to go back to normal that quick. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
HippeePrincess · 15/01/2022 14:05

You could be straight into a cycle, not a clue if bbt is affected by alcohol but we’re all different so some maybe and others might not be.
Could you just make a note in case it is an anomaly due to the alcohol?

Amber17 · 15/01/2022 14:33

@WingingIt09 Did you come off the pill at the end of a pack and normally have withdrawal bleeds on your week off?

I've booked my implant removal, end of Feb - gives me three+ cycles of figuring out what normal looks like! And DH is being offered a new role at work so I'm badgering him to check what parental leave arrangements he can get into his new contract.

Colleague just announced her pregnancy this week and I'm feeling slightly off about it - mainly envy I think. I've not known anyone in our team to go on mat leave though so it's nice that she can go first and figure out the details before I get there!

WingingIt09 · 15/01/2022 14:46

@Amber17 so I came off at the end of the pack but there's no week off - mine was a continuous 28 days of pill. I usually have a withdrawal bleed at the end of a packet but nothing when I stopped taking them which was bizarre. I wondered whether going straight into a cycle but no idea. Will just keep temping and see if my temp stays up tomorrow or dips. I'm glad I've got the time to work out what normal is before we start TTC!

OCM19 · 15/01/2022 16:54

@WingingIt09 hopefully you can figure things out during your next cycle. Who knows how our bodies work!

@Amber17 I know what you mean about the pregnancy announcements!

My bleed was a lot heavier than usual, but I think it is stopping now so only lasted 3 days. I am just going to track my cycle on the Ovia app, I do have a few clear blue ovulation tests left from when we TTC my DS so may do one or two this cycle.

Sannah987 · 16/01/2022 01:22

Hi :) I'm new to this forum so wasn't sure where to jump in but this thread looked relevant. I couldn't read the whole thing as it's massive 😅 but has anyone else started ttc yet? We started this month. I'm on cycle 1 day 28 but have long cycles so who even knows what's going on haha x

OCM19 · 16/01/2022 07:10

Welcome @Sannah987, ohh that’s exciting. Is this your first?

A few of us are waiting for our cycles to regulate. I came off my pill last weekend and think I’ve had a withdrawal bleed, so will see what happens with my cycles now Smile

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 16/01/2022 07:59

Welcome Sannah. I am not TTC until May as our vasectomy reversal is booked for April but several people on here are just coming off of contraception while others are waiting a bit longer :)
