Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

Hi @sannah987 will this be your first?
I came off my pill a couple of weeks ago so waiting to see what my cycles do now! We also have a holiday booked in May so we're going to wait to actively try until then 🤞

itsnearlymytime · 16/01/2022 09:51

Ok so seems as though we'll start trying earlier than September! Last night my partner and I sat and had a couple of drinks and played a game from Ann Summers, he had a few drinks and said if I'm happy for him in a couple of months just to stop wearing a condom then he will just not put one on one time, he knows what I'm like and says if I know it's going to happen I will stress and it's harder to get pregnant whilst stressed! I told him to just go ahead when he wants to, thought it was sweet he's thinking of me like that! So now it's more exciting knowing it's going to happen in a few months but spontaneously too xx

WingingIt09 · 16/01/2022 09:55

@Sannah987 welcome! As others have said lots of us are just coming off our contraception at the moment and letting our cycles regulate before we TTC or waiting for a particular event to happen before we start. Like @Dreamingof3 I'm going on holiday in May and don't want to be pregnant for it so I'm waiting until then.

Following on from my post yesterday - My temp dropped again today so I'm guessing it was the alcohol I drank the night before that raised my BBT so significantly!

@WingingIt09 that’s really interesting! I don’t really drink but do have a hen do coming up.

Dreamingof3 · 16/01/2022 10:44

Oooh that's exciting @itsnearlymytime definitely a good way of keeping the stress away!

itsnearlymytime · 16/01/2022 10:49

@Dreamingof3 I think so too! He's right though, otherwise I'd be constantly scheduling DTD and this way I won't be able to xx

WingingIt09 · 16/01/2022 10:56

@OCM19 yeah I'm not much of a drinker. I wonder if you were a regular drinker it'd have less of an effect. It's definitely something to keep in mind if you're going to be drinking. I think I'll do ovulation tests in the run up to the next time I'll be drinking so that it's a bit clearer to know if the temp spike is ovulation or due to alcohol 😂

@itsnearlymytime that’s exciting! Similar thing happened to me, I was waiting for my DH to tell me he was ready for me to come off the pill, then he suddenly told me he was ready! I’ve gone into full planning mode 🤦‍♀️

Nyxxie · 16/01/2022 12:08

@OCM19 sounds like we are in a very similar position.. I was waiting for my OH to tell me he was ready and he finally did in December! I've been off the pill for a few weeks and had my withdrawal bleed so just waiting to see what happens with cycles now (and also planning!!)

Jennifer89 · 16/01/2022 12:19

Are any of you ladies also holding off spending money on clothes because size/shape will change once pregnant?
I would prefer to hold off for now and spend money later on maternity clothes..

Dreamingof3 · 16/01/2022 12:24

I don't plan on getting much/anything maternity. I am currently trying to lose 4 stone though (1 stone down) so hoping to treat myself to some new summer things. A lot of the winter clothes I have now will work with a bump next year (🤞)

Lifeisnteasy · 16/01/2022 12:39

I’ve still got a few maternity bits from my last pregnancy, last time I carried quite small so could get away with some of my stretchy ‘normal’ clothes even towards the end. Second trimester is difficult to dress as normal clothes are a bit tight but maternity clothes are too big - this was when leggings and stretchy tops etc came into play, but dressing for work was a nightmare 😬

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 16/01/2022 12:46

We didn't have much money last pregnancy plus I had a tiny bump so didn't really do maternity clothes. This time we are more comfortable and I I hoping for a bigger bump so am going to get plenty of maternity clothes. I get most of my clothes second hand and will do the same so won't be too expensive but I intend to enjoy buying stuff this time round rather than being stressed about it.

OCM19 · 16/01/2022 13:21

@Nyxxie ohh exciting! I’ve just finished my withdrawal bleed.

I’ve also saved a few maternity clothes from my previous pregnancy, so will probably just buy some jeans and a few tops depending on the season

itsnearlymytime · 16/01/2022 13:35

@OCM19 oh exciting! Honestly I am just so excited now I can't stop thinking about it 🙈

WingingIt09 · 16/01/2022 15:12

I've still got all my maternity clothes from my last pregnancy although they were both autumn babies so I had summery maternity clothes, lots of maxi dresses etc. Will probably have to get some wintery ones (especially a coat) but will definitely be buying secondhand as this will be my last pregnancy so don't want to spend a fortune

I’ve been holding off buying clothes where possible due to weight changes or buying free size things from elsies attic etc that should work with a bump. I have a few maternity bits but not sure if the sizes and seasons will work. Even things I had for my first pregnancy didn’t always fit me for my second and in my first I grew out of 2 lots of maternity clothes, by the end I had 2 things that fit, couldn’t buy anymore to accommodate the bump because they were huge everywhere. With my second I had a much smaller bump and didn’t get anywhere near as heavy so I bought big and some stuff was still roomy at the end. I don’t know what it will be like this time so I’ll have to wait and see. Dreading trying to get work uniform!
I have never been able to make do with non maternity, I show early and I was in maternity jeans/leggings before 12 weeks every time.

Jennifer89 · 16/01/2022 16:30

I guess the bump/weight growth will be unpredictable and can't say for sure yet what season I will need maternity wear but I am guessing is good to have some essentials like jeans, leggings and work trousers, definitely jacket for Autumn/winter. I will have some loose jumpers and smock type dresses that could work..
@HippeePrincess.. There was me thinking could wait till 12 plus weeks for maternity but I could have a grower too Grin

HippeePrincess · 16/01/2022 16:53

For winter when heavily pregnant I couldn’t wear a coat I was too hot, I have a poncho and used a belted coat going to get another one of those. There’s great baby wearing coats you can wear pregnant, carrying and without the panel as a normal coat.
It really depends on timings and your body temperature, I wore jeans with dc2 in autumn and winter, but with dc1 it was a really hot year, was in normal clothes most of jan, Feb and March, by April and May I was too hot in jeans most days and wore floaty stuff right through to September when he was born.

WingingIt09 · 16/01/2022 18:14

@HippeePrincess I've been eyeing up a maternity coat with a baby wearing panel, thinking that it'll double up for when baby wearing after baby is born!

OP posts:
OCM19 · 16/01/2022 19:35

Ohh @WingingIt09 this coat sounds like a game-changer!

I got a bit distracted with baby names last night while we were watching a film! Anyone else talked about/thought of names?

WingingIt09 · 16/01/2022 19:42

@OCM19 my friend had one in her pregnancy and it looked amazing!

We pretty much have a girls name as we were down to 2 for DD2 and I pretty much promised DH if we went with my choice for DD2 then he could have the other for DD3 (utterly convinced baby #3 will be a girl). I still like the name and it fits well with my DDs names so I think we will probably go with it unless we change our mind when pregnant. On boys names I have no idea, we had the same boys name for both DDs but I've now gone off it... however I don't think I'll need a boys name so not worried about that.

I have seen the Mamalila coats. They look amazing but so expensive. Might try and get one second hand.

Jennifer89 · 16/01/2022 21:13

@Vasectomyreversalhopeful Seraphine do a really cute parka jacket with pouch at the front to keep baby warm Smile

HippeePrincess · 16/01/2022 21:44

@Vasectomyreversalhopeful there's definitely cheaper and as well designed version of those coats, although always good to check online!
