New thread for us to continue our fertility clinic appointment progress...

Some of us are waiting for initial appointments, some are having tests and some are starting treatment!

@PurpleUnicorn01 I forgot to say - ten follicles is great! With normal attrition rates that's a good 4 or so day 5 embryos hopefully!

Tillybabs · 28/07/2021 15:21

@99pctpractice welcome! It seems some of us will be starting the process around the same time so can share our experiences.

Juno231 · 28/07/2021 15:22

@99pctpractice ask.metafilter.com/282022/How-to-explain-time-off-for-IVF-treatment This link looks brilliant!

PurpleUnicorn01 · 28/07/2021 15:23

@Juno231 yay. Thank you. Fingers crossed

Kay00 · 28/07/2021 15:40

@thislittlebird I seeeee!!! Grin

thislittlebird · 28/07/2021 16:40

@Kay00 yeah, I wish we could have tried Letrozole before ivf but hey ho. Can’t try that now he won’t be here!

Aliceinivfland · 28/07/2021 20:56
@dogmam thanks! I’m so pleased it improved, just gives me a bit more hope but who knows what it’ll be like on the day. Just so pleased the three months to refresh SA rule worked, you feel like it won’t when taking all the supplements.

@Aliceinivfland honestly it wasn’t really him if you know what I mean 🤐. The main purpose he served was a physical exam and sending him for tests, an IVF doc told us to take impryl back in March at Care and a few since then have agreed he needs to keep taking it. I can only think that + ubiquinol + daily ejaculation did the job (JR may have suggested the last one). Having now had the experience, I think you could see any urologist for the service provided. What’s your husband’s issue?

I can see why you’d want to switch jobs, it must be really hard to work around teaching. I’m lucky my workplace is accommodating and no one relies on me being there.
Haha yes my DH said that all he got from the appointment was you have a low sperm concentration due to a childhood virus more than likely. Which he already knew from an NHS urologist... He found him rather underwhelming. I didn't know about daily ejaculation, he is every other, but I will let him know so thanks x

I'm having a meeting with my headteacher when I go back, for me being a mum is my priority right now. I've spoken to two people in the last few days and both gave up work during ivf, it is a full time job.

Aliceinivfland · 28/07/2021 21:01

Thank you @kay00 hopefully it is a blip.

I'm actually finding out about moving clinic, has anyone else moved NHS clinic? Are you right back down the queue?

Aliceinivfland · 28/07/2021 21:07

@beth1311

Hi all,

I'm waiting to see the fertility specialist.
Recently had my 'day 21' result, which came back as less than 1 😞

Struggling to see any positives. Dr doesn't seem overly concerned, feels like I have to wait to see the specialist. My friend has been waiting to see one for over a year now...

Has anyone gone private for a fertility MOT so to speak? X

Hi Beth sorry to hear that I had private hormonal bloods done with medichecks. Really easy and results within a couple of days. I would recommend x
Aliceinivfland · 28/07/2021 21:10

@99pctpractice

hello! can i join this thread? i'm going to start a round of ivf in august (privately because i already have a little boy and am 40, so would not be eligible on the nhs). i have just started taking norethisterone, which i think is supposed to reduce the chances of ovarian cysts and have a pre-ivf scan booked in for next friday. all going well, i'll be starting the stimulation medication on around 10 Aug. a bit nervous because i don't know what to expect in terms of what all the medications will do to my body, not to mention the emotional side of things. i also wondered how people manage the process around work? it seems we won't know until close to the date when the collection would happen (assuming that there is anything to collect....) and i really don't want to tell my work that i'm going through IVF. it's a bit easier in August, because it'll be quieter at work, but still a bit tricky to ask for a day off just one day in advance....
Welcome to this lovely thread :) I know what you mean about telling work. If you say it is for a hospital appointment, will they ask for proof? My work did (school) I was really shocked, hence why I need to tell them what is going on x
Kay00 · 28/07/2021 21:16

@aliceinivfland are you a private patient or NHS? I guess if NHS then the new ccg would need to apply for funding, unless your current clinic could get it transferred? I guess you are best calling up amd asking.

I'm not sure how far into Cornwall you're moving, but I'm with the fertility clinic in Exeter which is very good (from my experience so far). I also know a lady who successfully had an ivf baby through the fertility clinic in Plymouth 😊

thislittlebird · 28/07/2021 21:36

@Kay00 which Plymouth clinic was that? I have said to DH that I need to look at south west clinic if my two lister rounds fail.

If we can afford it, if the Lister IVF fails, we might need to just give up on any nhs help.

thislittlebird · 28/07/2021 21:38

I’m really lucky my work is very chilled and doesn’t ask anything, I just go off for appointments as and when and make the time up. I did tell my boss what I’m doing though, to explain why I need quite so many appointments.

Kay00 · 28/07/2021 21:49

@thislittlebird I'll ask my friend and let you know 😊

I'm pretty lucky too. My boss is based in London as has no idea or care if I am out at an appointment or not, so I can just put an ooo on. As long as my work gets done and my team know I'll be away from my desk then there is no problem 😊

dogmam · 28/07/2021 23:55

@purpleunicorn01 ah so pleased your scan went well! How you feeling about egg collection?

@thislittlebird you seem to be making good progress finally! So is your treatment private then? What's happening with nhs?

@tillybabs exciting, sounds like you'll be starting soon. Not sure about day 21 tests just before IVF? We had bloods, heights and weights etc just before but that wasn't on a particular cycle day, then we just rang when period started and got booked in for baseline scans etc. Have you signed your consent forms yet?

@juno231 are you still trying naturally or not making much effort with ivf hopfully happening in the next few month?

@99pctpractice i told my work, well my manager, just because I have a really busy diary and I couldn't just drop multiple meetings etc with a days notice, although I still kind of had to do that but because my manager knew what's going on I didn't feel as bad. For your scans, you're in and out so will only need an hour or so and obviously travel time then the only full day off you'll need is egg collection but I would suggest you put holidays in or ring in sick for a few days after, especially for your day 3 and 5 embryo updates, I wouldn't suggest being in work for those calls. I think if I need to go though another egg collection I'd put a weeks holiday in.

@kay00 that’s what I need when I move away. Really hoping to keep wfh but might not be able to, we shall see.

@dogmam yeah this is private. Nothing from the nhs but a questionnaire. On one of my threads that questionnaire was received by someone else with Guys in Jan and they’re just starting ivf now. It’s a long time when you’re 38 already.

Tillybabs · 29/07/2021 07:45

@dogmam yes we signed the forms earlier this month.

I've been in two minds about telling work. Luckily for me, I'm wfh and am flexible and the hospital is literally a few minutes walk for me. So I'm holding off mentioning anything at the moment. But will bear in mind what you have said about egg collection day etc.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 29/07/2021 08:26

@dogmam how are you? Im excited and nervous. Those phone calls must be nerve wracking. I have leave booked thankfully. It feels like the we are finally getting towards the end. It has flown but i don't think the 2ww wait will lol

Aliceinivfland · 29/07/2021 09:45

Thank you! I'm actually in London, so quite a while a way and NHS. I've spoken to the new clinic and they said the wait is 3/4months after referral which my GP should be sending today or tomorrow. It's annoying that it will extend the wait time for me, but I should have a better level of care and I have a few friends who have had babies there. At least I can put the conversation with my head off until Christmas x

beth1311 · 30/07/2021 10:25

Morning ladies!

Sorry if I'm hijacking this post.
A few days ago I booked my fertility appointment privately, filled out all the paperwork yesterday and through the postbox came my new pack of ovulation sticks!

2nd morning wee, I thought "ah why not try"... do these look positive to you?

I'm really keeping everything crossed thst there has to be something going on in there, and maybe I'm ovulating super late? According to the 4 apps I use for tracking, my period is due in 3 days time 🧐
Xx

Kay00 · 30/07/2021 11:10

Hi @beth1311 I'd say they are not quite positive yet. Maybe keep trying today and tomorrow to see if you can catch your peak. You can download an app like: Premon which will allow you to scan your OPKs and it will give you a percentage of how strong they are.

Kay00 · 30/07/2021 11:11

Premom (sorry)

beth1311 · 30/07/2021 11:16

@Kay00 thank you lovely! I'll test again after lunch and see what that's like.
Seems odd as my period is due so soon xx

beth1311 · 30/07/2021 11:17

@Kay00 Premom also says 60% x

Kay00 · 30/07/2021 11:21

@beth1311 are you sure you ovulated when your apps say you did? Do you temp? Did you get any other signs (EWCM etc)?
