Has anyone here had a DH with a varicocele?

Did he call about his results @Marvellouslymadmum?

Sjhigs · 08/06/2021 05:54

@crazycatlady1981 would you mind asking into the group for me if the meds worked OK I have the fear 🙈 seems to good to be true and not finding much info online about them x

Crazydoglady123 · 08/06/2021 07:18

Catch up properly later but @Sjhigs try Asda. I've heard the meds there are like half the price

Sjhigs · 08/06/2021 07:22

@Crazydoglady123 Thankyou and @crazycatlady1981 I think I might have found the group and just asked myself thanks so much great help ❤️

crazycatlady1981 · 08/06/2021 07:29

@Sjhigs the one I’m on is IVF support UK. You can also search for past comments about the fertility med centre and see what people have put. Is it a lot cheaper then?

Sjhigs · 08/06/2021 07:31

@crazycatlady1981 just shy off 1600 my best quote was fertility 2u at just over 1800 and boots was 2400 🙈

crazycatlady1981 · 08/06/2021 07:44

@Sjhigs bit of a difference then! They seem to be legit from what I’ve read. But if you’re worried, go with the £1800 one, there’s no point stressing yourself out about it. 💕

Sjhigs · 08/06/2021 07:49

@crazycatlady1981 just waiting on some feedback from the Facebook group and that'll settle me thanks so much xx

Juno231 · 08/06/2021 09:07

@notyetamumbuttrying aah I'm sorry for making you repeat it! What a rollercoaster though, I almost wish the clinic hadn't sounded that positive about it. 3 frosties is great though, hopefully a little sibling in there

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/06/2021 09:24

@thislittlebird no we forgot 🙄 will call today to see if it's in. He's so worried though as he really didn't have much of a sample to be examined!

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/06/2021 09:37

Oh what a faff that was! Phoned the docs, still no results so phoned the clinic who said they sent them on 21st may, the day after his SA!! So she's now calling docs to check email address and sending again 🙄 been waiting nearly 3 weeks for results that were sent the next day 🤦🏼‍♀️ hopefully should get them later!

Juno231 · 08/06/2021 09:45

@Marvellouslymadmum hahaha that's so typical! I'm only laughing cause all these clinics and the NHS drive me bonkers with their inefficiencies and outright incompetence at times!

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/06/2021 10:00

@Juno231 it's crazy isn't it! Well they've now sent them through to the docs and I've rung back and they said everything is 'perfectly normal' but getting them to email the results through anyway just to be sure, so he's happy now at least!

polejunkie · 08/06/2021 10:15

@Marvellouslymadmum that's good news - were you expecting something to be wrong?

@CycleGirl20 - that made me lol 'more physical contact with that vaginal ultrasound machine than with any human being' pahaha - I think we can all relate!!

I'm riding the wave of excitement again today, baseline scan a week tomorrow and it suddenly doesn't feel like it's dragging as much... I am however apprehensive about EC now, excited but really want to end up with 3 (one for xfer and 2 for freezer) be a shame if fewer, plus based on my low reserves how unlikely is that! Waaaah!

MIW01 · 08/06/2021 10:19

Hello everyone, sorry I just cannot keep up with this thread with everything else going on . . .

@thislittlebird my acupuncturist used to be a midwife and was chatting to her about some of my OH symptoms as he gets painful testicle on and off and 1 is much lower and the other and she suggested it may be a varicocele and has recommended he gets a COMET test to check for DNA fragmentation of his sperm. It costs £500 but he is going to get it done as if this is causing issues then IVF won't solve it! So we will fork out now rather than waste our NHS IVF Cycles

@notyetamumbuttrying do I remember correctly your stitches were irritating post lap? It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow since I had mine and the stitches are still bothering me!

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/06/2021 11:13

@polejunkie yes, he was told when he was younger that he had warm sperm which made them lazy, plus has constant infections in that area and only produces a small amount each time, he also only gave up smoking 6 weeks before the test and hadn't started exercising yet! Which he is now so that's really good

@polejunkie that's great that it's only a week! As long as you get one good egg collected that's all you need though I agree it would be nice to have some frozen too

@MIW01 my oh has pain in them and one lower too but his is due to to getting infections in the epididymis (tube that sends the swimmers our way) it's a recurring infection and he gets it 2-6 times a year and then has to have antibiotics and we have to abstain 😫

thislittlebird · 08/06/2021 12:03

@MIW01 I’m glad we’re not alone! My husband hasn’t got pain or a visible difference in size but a scan has showed one up so we’re going to have to decide whether to spend the money to get this fixed. He’s going to have the COMET test tomorrow, I think, as well as an oxidative stress test etc.

My concern is it will be very expensive for the private surgery and will eat into a chunk of our ivf money. Right now we have 0 NHS cycles. I’m entering into some sort of formal complaints process with the NHS over us being classified as unexplained, they want me to send them the letters from the private doctors. If we can get beyond the point where we have 0 NHS IVF entitlement and get to where I think we should be which is 1 NHS cycle then I might be less worried about this potential varicocele expenditure.
But as you say, it may be that nothing else will help and I’m worried about cycles failing at such a huge cost because of the poor sperm quality. Will wait to see what the consultant says when we next see him, I guess.

thislittlebird · 08/06/2021 12:03

@Marvellouslymadmum yes definitely scrutinise those results yourself!

notyetamumbuttrying · 08/06/2021 12:06

@Marvellouslymadmum thank you. Omg how maddening about the SA! We waited 3 weeks too as the doc had gone on holiday!! Glad it's all normal tho 👍🏾
@CycleGirl20 thanks
And know the feeling with the invasion! Wait until you get to ivf, non bloody stop 😝
@Juno231 no, sorry. My 'yes I did' was to i got the result, not to having said about it on here. And you're right with them sounding positive about it, that's what annoyed me too! I'd rather they'd have been realistic and then it wouldn't have bothered me as much! Aw yeah hope so! How you getting on?
@MIW01 it was @Juno231 who was irritated by hers. Mine weren't too bad.

Narwhal88 · 08/06/2021 12:45

@notyetamumbuttrying 3 Frosties is still great! I know what you mean about building expectations though. AF arrived today and my baseline scan is tomorrow. If all ok I then have to take estrogen for a couple of weeks.

@thislittlebird my DH has a varicocele but they said it was small and shouldn't be having too much of an effect. I am not convinced but DH didn't want to go private to investigate it further as the success rates of surgery improving pregnancy rates isn't that high. If our NHS rounds fail I am definitely looking into it though. The treatment for high dna fragmentation is just antioxidants or a supplement like Proxeed which he had been taking for 6 months before EC anyway.

Crazydoglady123 · 08/06/2021 13:16

@Yutes I had a Hycosy and it was okay! I'm surprised they didn't want to do them at before ovulation induction?

Sorry to hear of your adenomyosis diagnosis @Marvellouslymadmum. At least your on the right path for getting it sorted and you now know why you've been having those symptoms

@Narwhal88 you clinic sounds thorough and yep I imagine that's plenty progesterone 🤣

@polejunkie not long to go for you!!

@notyetamumbuttrying sorry your others didn't catch up but 3 is still good and it only takes 1!

Had my IVF clinic scan earlier and all perfect. Officially graduated over to the NHS. It doesn't feel real!

polejunkie · 08/06/2021 13:20

@Crazydoglady123 what fantastic news! Happy graduation day!! Here’s to things progressing well and a smooth pregnancy from here until due date 🥂 x

thislittlebird · 08/06/2021 13:24

@Narwhal88 yeah that makes sense to investigate if no success on nhs. How many rounds do you get? Because (at least for now until the nhs acknowledge our issues) we’re having to go private for everything and it feels really daunting to have to choose what to spend £5k (I guess???) on. An op that may or may not make a difference or a round that may or may not work.

I think the doctor we’re seeing may also use antibiotics to help some things so I’m going to see what he says and I can keep you posted on if any of this works. How was your DH’s last sample, Narwhal?

thislittlebird · 08/06/2021 13:31

In related news, I tried posting on infertility for male factor ivf success stories because I’m stressed about all this potential dna frag stuff and need some hope. A grand total of no one replied 🤪

notyetamumbuttrying · 08/06/2021 13:37

@Narwhal88 😊 good luck for tomorrow, keep us posted!
@Crazydoglady123 I know, thank you. So happy for you and your twinnies!! Such a blessing 🙏🏾
@thislittlebird ahh sorry you haven't had any replies yet, sometimes it takes time x
