@ElsieG3m those symptoms sound a lot like underactive thyroid... out of interest, when you were temping were your temps quite low? Like what were you averaging in the follicular and luteal phases? If they are low then that's underactive thyroid too...

ElsieG3m · 08/05/2021 12:48

@Noodella18 yes my acupuncturist thought my thyroid function could be problematic. My temps have always been very low - 35.62 fairly normal in my follicular phase but then I do sleep with my mouth open!! I've had a lot of thyroid function tests over the years and it's always been normal though I do have some pre-cancerous thyroid nodules which are monitored - just waiting for latest results to see if any changes which is a bit of a worry. I definitely need to arrange some bloods with the GP as some days I'm completely exhausted and can barely move 😬 xx

I've just read most of It Starts with the Egg. These are bits I'm not sure on - if anyone knows can you let me know what you're doing different? I'm taking the Zita West vitamins, antioxidants and DHA.

  • Vit D - 4000 mg recommended in the book, my vitamins contain 1000 mg - should I take an additional Vit D?
  • Methyl-folate - again high dose recommended in the book, my vitamins contain way less. Should I buy some extra?
  • Cleaning products and laundry - I bought Ecover and Method, are these relatively good do you know?

I am topping up extra C, and iron, and ubiquinol I've upped the dose to 400mg a day. Don't really want to spend MORE money on vitamins, but if its really important to up the dose on those I haven't, grateful if you could let me know!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/05/2021 12:51

Honestly I'm already up to about £150 worth of vitamins this month, and I'm about to get rid of my nail varnishes 😥😂

KatRee · 08/05/2021 13:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 It's so expensive, isn't it? I started doing the 'basic plan' from that book at the beginning of March. As she says it will take 3 months to work, my plan has always been to move to the intermediate in June - ie if not pregnant after 3 months.
Right now I am on
Zita west vitafem
400 mg methylfolate (so total is 800mg a day as suggested in the book because there are 400 in the ZW vits
2000mg vit D ( so total 3000 as 1000 in ZW- I'm thinking of reducing this though- I think the sensible would probably be to get a blood test to see how much we really need)
200mg ubiquinol- will up to 400 in June ( crying thinking about how quickly I'll get through those expensive things when I do this)
I also alternate between vit c and vit e daily so I get the dosis she recommends as part of intermediate plan already - as they are quite cheap, I thought'why not?'

Basically following the plan in the book but trying to leave enough time for them to have some effect before taking more to help my bank balance

got2be · 08/05/2021 13:13

@ElsieG3m I’ve been told the same about iron and looking at the length of time I’ve been trying and my constant low levels it could be the reason.
Thing is I’ve managed to get them up too 66 by taking 200mg but I don’t know what the optimal level is for fertility

notyetamumbuttrying · 08/05/2021 13:18

@Kitekat81 good thank you. Day 4 of down reg injections today and today's one was done without any wincing this time lol so getting the hang out of it now. Headaches have started now though. Will have 12-14 days of these and then scanned to see if things are as they should be and then switch onto the stimming injections.
Are you doing a short protocol, so stimming from cd1? I'm glad you're back and raring to go!
@KatRee I sought private help when the nhs were telling me wait times were this n that. I had a consultation and my afc privately and then the funding got approved weeks later so we went with nhs in the end. I don't regret doing those bits privately though as at least I knew my egg count at that point and not 6 weeks later.
Good reassurance from that consultant, that's good to hear as I ov early too. Cd 10 or 11 usually.
@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've not read that but my consultant just says folic acid for the foetal development is enough or something like pregnacare for a range of vits. Personally I'm taking folic acid, vit D (1000mg), coQ10 100mg but soon upping to 200mg. Have also heard of ppl taking 400mg but I'm not going to, seems very high. I also take alpha lipoid daily too, meant to be good for egg health.

got2be · 08/05/2021 13:30

@KatRee my gyne has told me to start 600mg of ubiquinol. Was going to start next cycle but does look very expensive when they come in 200mg.
You mentioned short fp and mature egg just looked through my charts my fp is 9-11 days lp is 14-16.
Is that a short fp?

Misty84 · 08/05/2021 13:38

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I take R-lipoic acid, Vit B complex, Ubiquinol 400mg, Vit E, Vit D, N-acetyl-l-cysteine and Pregnacare. Yes it’s majorly expensive 🙄🙄🙄

@Kitekat81 I’m very glad you’re ok. Your reaction isn’t selfish at all. I have mixed emotions about the bfps on here; genuinely happy for people because everyone is over 35 so it feels like a win for the team!, but also can’t help feeling sadness, longing and frustration that it isn’t me.
Do you feel positive about ivf starting?! I have to admit I’m kind of glad I have a few more months before embarking on it! Alcohol has always been my biggest weakness so I’m really going to work on that over the next 3 months. Consultant said 10 units a week max. That’s about 3 pints for my partner- he was horrified! 😛

got2be · 08/05/2021 13:42

Sorry @KatRee didn’t add af so it’s actually 14-16 think I’m at the stage we’re I’ll blame it on anything.
Are any of you on b6 as keep hearing success stories that include it on there vit list.

Misty84 · 08/05/2021 13:42

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Oh and consultant also told me to take 25mg of DHEA x3 per day, but I need to get my levels checked first as it’s a hormone so don’t want to mess up my body. It’s more for people with low AMH I think, so if your egg reserve is ok then you won’t need it.

Geriatric1234 · 08/05/2021 13:44

@KatRee Thank you! That’s so interesting and - as you say - pretty much to be expected at my advanced age! My AMH was pretty good, but low by fertility standards (6.3) so I think your logic about egg maturity is sound and I’ll go with it too! Thank you for remembering me xxx

Kitekat81 · 08/05/2021 15:20

@Misty84 yes I am glad to be starting, but totally petrified at the same time! Alcohol isn't too much of a problem for me as I really only drink socially, and I've not been doing very much socialising at all in the last year! It's going to be harder now we are starting to see people more, and they will be expecting to see me drinking. For me giving up caffeine is going to be the hardest thing! I only have 1 cup per day but I really struggle without it. That's interesting you were told to take dhea, there seems to be such divided opinions. My clinic told me not to take it so we've decided to follow their instructions and put our full trust in them, but the other clinic we had a consultation with told me that I should take it. Who knows with that one! 🤷‍♀️

@notyetamumbuttrying how are you getting on with the injections? Are you doing them yourself or getting your oh to do them? I'm going to have to do them myself as will have to stay away from home without him for most of the treatment. Feeling really nervous about doing them! Yep I'll start stimming on day 2.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/05/2021 15:21

Thank you all for sharing, okay that's interesting, I might need to go out for some more supplement shopping !

@got2be 600 mg a day. Wow, 400 mg a day is costing £90 this month alone 😱

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/05/2021 15:23

@notyetamumbuttrying well done, those injections sound horrific, very brave to do it (and to not be wincing).

@Misty84 I don't know actually I get my results back next week, but I think I'll see how I go this month and then maybe consider adding in the DHEA next month

MgW1 · 08/05/2021 15:36

CD13 today
Had my recurrent mc consulatation yesterday, got to have blood tests next week and appointment with doctor in 4 weeks time. Been told to loose weight , however I am happy with my 10/12 jeans!!!
Usual treatment is aspirin and progesterone so il try aspirin this month. Hope you ladies are all ok

got2be · 08/05/2021 15:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes 600 I thought it was a typo so called to double check.
I’ve seen the Kaneka Ubiquinol is supposed to be the best.
I think once I start then I’ll drop all the rest an only take with fa and vit d.
And either vit c or b6 to sustain progesterone after ov

got2be · 08/05/2021 15:45

@MgW1
Cd13 too Smile
10/12 loose weight? Really? That’s an average size!
The progesterone and aspirin is promising tho when we’re you told to start aspirin?
I was told to start once I get to 12w which is annoying as I don’t get to 12w!

MgW1 · 08/05/2021 15:54

@got2be
Well its all down to BMI , i dont possess weighing scales , I just go by my dress size! Il cut down on the choccy biccies but I am not giving up the kettle crisps!!
12 weeks ? I think its 75mg from ovulation ( im on sertraline so can take anymore because that slightly thins the blood as well) but i think the guidance is 150mg daily now. X

notyetamumbuttrying · 08/05/2021 15:59

@Kitekat81 I've done 3, Dh has done 1 and think I'll stick to doing them as felt like I mastered it today! How comes you have to stay away from him? I guess they've told you have to? On the drinking front, I've swapped to having lite beers or with lemonade. No wine, prosecco or spirits. And then I'll alternate between soft and only end up having two max as everyone else is tipsy or drunk themselves to notice. I think it's working with fooling ppl 🤷🏾‍♀️ 😂
@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks, yeah they're not the funnest but needs must n all that!
@MgW1 wow lose weight when you're size 10/12, madness! You must be very short or something then. I wear a 16 now so defo need to shift a stone more! I'm on the right path at mo and down 4lbs.

got2be · 08/05/2021 16:01

@MgW1 scales are banned here!!! But yes I suppose bmi over waist size makes sense.
I assumed too 75g going by what I’ve read but it definitely says 150g from 12 weeks.
I’m about 2 weeks away from next appointment this time with miscarriage clinic rather then gyne so hopefully they will say to take from ov.
Are you using okps this cycle and following any bd plans?

MgW1 · 08/05/2021 16:34

@got2be
So have you recently had various blood tests ? I have to go on thursday a.m.
Well we dtd last night , will do it tomorrow and Monday , thats all I will get out of my hubby , hes had a bad cold and its not attractive!!! Iv had a nearly positive opk today so it should he positive tomorrow x

MgW1 · 08/05/2021 16:36

@notyetamumbuttrying
5 ft 5 inch and 11 stone , i can fit in a 12 and some 10's. My weight is in my boobs 😂😂 il try and get half a stone off , im thinking of cutting out dairy for a bit.

got2be · 08/05/2021 16:41

@MgW1 I’ve had loads of bloods I think I know which ones you mean will upload pic but don’t have a clue what they mean!
Same cycle day and same dtd plan.
Using easy@home not used b4 went straight to digital so think it’s near too?
Fingers crossed 🤞🏽 We get lucky this month.

notyetamumbuttrying · 08/05/2021 16:44

@MgW1 my goal is to be 11stone 7lbs as I'm close to 5"8 I'm a stone and a half off that at mo, I'll be more than happy to just get below 12 stone at mo. Cutting out dairy sounds sensible! Just try and fill up on salad and veg, that's what I'm doing and seems to be working.
