TTC after MC - new thread for newbies / lurkers on other threads!

Lowkeyloopy · 06/04/2021 12:49

Hi all!

I know there are several threads dedicated to this topic, which I've lurked on for several weeks without saying anything, but some threads (sadly) have so many people on them that it can be a bit hard to follow, or it feels awkward to jump into the middle of a conversation between people who have been chatting for a while. Does anyone fancy joining me on a new thread?

My story: 33, TTC baby #1, conceived first cycle in Feb, but had a MC at 6 weeks in early March. Absolutely awful, as everyone knows, and I was in a rubbish place mentally for a few weeks, but I've also counted my blessings - it was early, I needed no medical intervention and at least I know I can conceive. Also AF has returned today - 29 days after first day of my MC. I usually have a 28-29 day cycle so am so grateful that my body seems to be getting with the programme again.

So CD1 for me, and I'll be TTC this month and back to tracking - BBT from tomorrow, OPKs from CD 11, still taking my Pregnacare and trying to keep exercising and eating healthily!

Would anyone like to join me if they're going through something similar? How have you been coping since your MC? What's on your TTC to-do list?! (Other than the obvious..!)

Baby dust to all xx

@SparrowMaiden yeah so he told a fib and said we had been ttc for 1 year but my doctor knew how long and was more than happy to have tests because I have a lot of bleeding after sex and also in between periods so I've been seeing a gynaecologist anyway but actually last year came off from them so having to go back through the process of getting referred back which can take to January apparently !
We are using conceive plus and I'm taking 800mg of folic acid and 1000 of vit D.
Oh takes coq-10 , vit C , folic acid and zinc.
I have pomegranate juice and a pineapple for after ovulation this month so hoping to try that! I'm also going to get some vitamin C which apparently can help towards progesterone. But it's definitely worth getting they tests and telling a little lie won't do any harm if it helps in the long run xx

SparrowMaiden · 15/06/2021 22:42

Ah gotcha. Yeah I'll see how we go, I don't know if they would let me get away with a fib as they know when I had my coil out so basically easy enough to work out it hasn't been a year!!

I reckon you should should able to get all the vitamin c you need from diet really - I do worry that all these vitamin and supplement companies are laughing their way to the bank when most of it is just about eating well!!

Doremifasol · 16/06/2021 06:20

Hi all, hope it's ok if I join. A bit of background- I had three consecutive miscarriages ( 4 in total), last one in March (IVF). I literally just found out I am pregnant again. I'm 37 turning 38 soon. I'm in complete disbelief and after everything I've been theough I have so little hope this will turn out ok but I guess it's my mind trying to protect me against disappointment.
My last miscarriage was most likely due to weak cervix at 10 weeks which was really sad as baby was healthy ( we did genetic testing post surgery which revealed it was healthy baby girl😞).
My question is... I have loads of progesterone pessaries at home leftovers from IVF pregnancy... would it be silly to start using those without consulting my doctor? I don't think EPU will want to see me before week 6/7 and I have to wait c 2 weeks for GP appointment.

Laurenxx94 · 16/06/2021 06:51

I was the same @SparrowMaiden I couldn't tell any because my doctor had my history but maybe your partner could would give you an insight? When we realised his sperm was lower we dtd every second day last cycle until I got my peak which could of helped? Yeah totally that's why I stopped with pregnacare it was far to expensive xx

Laurenxx94 · 16/06/2021 06:55

@Doremifasol first of all congratulations!
That must of been so difficult with your miscarriages, so sorry for your losses! I can imagine how worried you must be have you got a history of low progesterone? Maybe you could just phone your doctor up and tell them your concerns? Whoever supplied your the pessaries could just phone for advice! I would be tempted to take them also but maybe just to be safe consulting with your gp xx

Mrsmujic · 16/06/2021 09:46

Hi girls, I've not been on here in so long! I had a cp over Easter and then bfn last month. However after not really trying so much this month due to a few other stresses going on due to house move we only managed DTD once, I didn't early test however I tested 14dpo just to check my period was gonna arrive and to expect it any day and I got a BFP! We literally dtd once on static smiley day, hence waiting for af. I'm now 18dpo and the strongest lines I've seen. There's hope! Not sure why CB says 1-2 weeks but I'll test again next week to see if it goes up
Now to cross everything that it's a sticky bean 😃

Congratulations @Mrsmujic your lines are so promising and very dark! The clearblue might just be a day or 2 out so I wouldn't worry considering the darkness of your lines!
Sorry about your chemical I just suffered one last cycle and struggling coming to terms with it. Did you try anything different this month except relax lol? X

ItsMeantToBe · 16/06/2021 10:00

@Doremifasol sorry for everything you've been through, that must have been so tough. Big congratulations on your pregnancy!

@Mrsmujic wow congratulations! They're such strong lines. How are you feeling?

I've had another scan this morning and it's all looking good. I'm measuring 5 weeks, I thought I was 6 weeks 2 days. I've got another scan in a few weeks time. I'm considering telling a few people now it feels real!

SparrowMaiden · 16/06/2021 10:00

@Mrsmujic ah so lovely to hear good news stories on here! Congratulations!

@Doremifasol sorry for your losses but congratulations on your bfp! I definitely think with your history it would be worth contacting the EPU. In normal circumstances you're probably right about them not seeing you but I would have thought they might be able to help in this case? Good luck!!

Laurenxx94 · 16/06/2021 10:08

@ItsMeantToBe that's exciting! Was it too soon to see heartbeat?xx

CMcA21 · 16/06/2021 10:37

Hi girls, congrats to everyone who has recently got a BFP and to @ItsMeantToBe for your scan! Sounds so good ❤️

AF arrived for me yesterday, on my DP birthday when we had both said how amazing it would be a birthday present. But it wasn’t meant to be I suppose, feeling loads more positive now I have my new job to focus on too… and my counselling has helped a lot!

ItsMeantToBe · 16/06/2021 10:56

@Laurenxx94 yes it was too early for the heartbeat unfortunately but on track for 5 weeks. Hopefully we'll see it on the next scan.

@CMcA21 Aww so sorry AF arrived. Glad you're feeling positive. Hope you had a few glasses to celebrate DP's birthday.

Mrsmujic · 16/06/2021 11:36

Thanks everyone! I really wasn't expecting it to be positive this month so it was a huge shock to be honest! I've only ever had one other positive month which turned to the chemical so it's all very new to me! Normally it's month after month of bfn. Didn't try any thing different, literally only DTD once on static smiley day as neither of us were really up to it as we've had a lot going on. I had no symptoms at all apart from waking up really light headed on Friday 13dpo but put that down to the room being too hot. Didn't test until Sunday when af was overdue. I've been getting flutter feelings in my abdomen, a couple of cramps (hence thinking af due) boobs are a tiny bit tender, few headaches and woke up with a whooper of a cold sore under my lip yesterday 😫 I'm trying to keep very level headed though as I know it's not 100% certain it will all go as planned but crossing my fingers and toes it will all be okay. I was surprised to have such dark lines only a few days after af due so it does give me a tiny bit of confidence.

@ItsMeantToBe how come you are getting early scans? Is that though your midwife? I've not registered with mine yet, think I'll wait another week at least. Xxxx

ItsMeantToBe · 16/06/2021 12:43

@Mrsmujic My son was born prematurely at 28 weeks and I've had 2 CP's so I was advised to call as soon as I got pregnancy again. They scanned me last week due to pain, which turned out to be a small cyst. Sounds like you've got similar symptoms to me. I have to have an emergency stash of sweets in my bag in case I get faint!

Flopsy88 · 16/06/2021 12:44

@ItsMeantToBe Wonderful news! So pleased for you! When will your next scan be? How are you feeling?

@CMcA21 So sorry AF arrived ☹ I'm glad you're feeling positive though so keeping my fingers crossed for your next cycle (which hopefully won't be hindered by a sunburnt DP!)

@Mrsmujic Congratulations!! Amazing news! Sounds really promising so far. A cold sore is rubbish but a small price to pay I guess!

I haven't booked in with the midwife yet. I think I'll wait til 6 weeks, I don't want to tempt fate! I got 2-3 weeks on a digital this morning which was reassuring. I'll probably do them weekly to make sure they go up to 3+ and stay there then book a scan for around 7 weeks. My nausea disappeared on Monday and Tuesday which panicked me but I felt a bit sick this morning which I think is good. I hadn't expected to feel quite as anxious as I do

Laurenxx94 · 16/06/2021 14:28

Great news @Flopsy88 definitely a good sign the digital is increasing! Xxxx

Mrsmujic · 16/06/2021 15:38

@Flopsy88 what dpo are you? I got 1-2 weeks on my CB and wondering if it should be 2-3 already? I'm not that worried though as other tests are all so strong. Interesting to compare though X

Flopsy88 · 16/06/2021 16:45

@Mrsmujic I'm 17dpo but I got a BFP at 9dpo so the HCG has had a good while to increase. I really don't think you need to worry! If you're planning to do another one then hang on a few days and I'm sure you'll get 2-3 xx

ItsMeantToBe · 16/06/2021 18:03

@Flopsy88 my next scan is on 30/6. I'm feeling relieved and it feels more real now. I'm moody tonight for some reason though, hormones! I only called the midwifes yesterday, I kept putting it off. It's normal for you to feel anxious. As the weeks go on it'll get easier. If it helps my HCG 16DPO was 227, then 504 on 18DPO.

SparrowMaiden · 17/06/2021 12:06

@CMcA21 sorry AF appeared, but lovely to have your new job to focus on. What is your start date, and do you know what the maternity policy is? Both times I have been ttc it has been after just starting a new job (or in this case after having had my contract made permanent so essentially the same) We were really careful about not "trying" in the first month so I would still be entitled to maternity pay, but turns out we needn't have worried because it took ages anyway!!!

@ItsMeantToBe great news about your scan, horrible to have to go through a preemie birth and cps but it's good they are taking it seriously and supporting you at this early stage. My dd was prem too but only 35 weeks, that was scary enough! How is your son now?

I think we are definitely going to miss ovulation with Saturday's birthday sex fest. Pretty sure I'm going to ovulate today (CD10, again!!) Not that that will stop us trying!! Wink

LSW82 · 17/06/2021 18:21

Hope everyone is well. 1st AF after most recent mc arrived last night, wasn't overly surprised as weren't really trying this month. We have friends coming to stay next weekend so looking forward to seeing them after such a long time & enjoy some drinks, hopefully get back to trying 'properly' again after. It's 4 weeks today since my mc started, glad my body seems to be getting back in sync x

Laurenxx94 · 18/06/2021 06:40

Hey ladies how are we ?
No sign of ovulation for me. Usually have a flashing smiley round about now and peak by tomorrow or next day latest I don't even have a hint of a line on cheap opks and blank circle on clearblue ! I'm now worrying I'm not going to ovulate after my chemical has this happened to anybody? X

SparrowMaiden · 18/06/2021 09:49

@Laurenxx94 I wasn't using opks after my cp but if I did ovulate, it was a good 2-3 days later than usual if I go by cm. I'd say just keep going with the testing. Also if it turns put you don't ovulate this month don't worry too much about it. It might just be your body sorting it's out again, and maybe once you've had a period you'll be back to normal.

bea19 · 18/06/2021 19:43

@CMcA21 really sorry AF arrived. Hope you’ve got some fun weekend plans to treat yourself with?

@ItsMeantToBe great news about your scan. How are you feeling?

@Mrsmujic congratulations, that’s great news.

I’m 8dpo today based on CB digital and I’ve had a few cramps on my right hand side since 6dpo. I’ve also completely gone of chocolate, which has literally only ever happened to me once before, the last time I was pregnant, normally I’m a chocoholic! The urge to POAS is getting strong now but I’m really conscious my mind could be playing tricks on me as I felt sick for ages last month and wasn’t pregnant! And it would also be really early to test tomorrow…especially as I had EWCM two days after my first peak smiley on CB so who knows - maybe I’m only 6dpo?!

ItsMeantToBe · 18/06/2021 21:24

@SparrowMaiden My sons great now, thanks. He took a long time to catch up but you wouldn't know he was a preemie now ☺️.

@LSW82 sorry to hear AF arrived. Hope you have a nice few weeks off before trying again!

@Laurenxx94 what CD are you on? Are you texting twice daily? I don't think I ovulate on the same day every month so as @SparrowMaiden definitely keep testing.

@bea19 I'm feeling good thanks, although really tired! Counting down to my next scan. The TWW is a killer isn't it. Have you got something else to distract yourself for a few days? I found reading helped, getting lost in someone else's story!
