Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Hey girls sorry to hear this month didn't work. I'm starting next cycle now as it didn't arrive on time. I saw you both mention SA for your partners, mine has done a couple of home tests which measure motility and count. Might be worth doing just to check?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 10/04/2021 13:07

@Marvellouslymadmum I'm so sorry I had such high hopes for you on this one. Hope you're okay. Aah that's tough with your partner if he's not keen to do the semen analysis etc. I'd be tempted to go private just for that part if you haven't explored that already. Heard there's a wait list for semen tests at the moment. Does he take the ubiquinol and male vitamins? I have my partner on the Proceive men, but he draws the line at extras unless its proven that he needs them....🙄

@ploopypleepy we tried the cheap Boots at home one and it came out okay, although I was peering over his shoulder and misread the colours and thought it was bad news 🤣 when things open up I think we will go and get a private fertility check for both of us

@choccrumpet hope you're having a nice weekend. Sorry about the yucky painful period. I might take the soy from today with you. I am trying to push back my blood tests (they should be done on CD 3 I think and my GP is booking them in for two weeks time- FSH, thyroid etc) if I can, I'll do the soy again

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 10/04/2021 13:56

@choccrumpet I have taken the soy today. Don't want to waste another month - so that's days 3-7 for me. Will try to rebook my tests for when I expect my next period to start.

choccrumpet · 10/04/2021 15:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's exciting, I'm hopeful for you!

We're giving it a few more cycles until we decide to take things a bit further (testing, investigations etc)

My partner has been taking vitamins but I'm not sure they're helping tbh. He's just finished a pack and we haven't bought any more, might change my mind and get some but haven't decided yet. He's not too keen on taking vitamins, says he doesn't need them, no health issues we're aware of so I'm not too fussed about it. At the end of the day I don't think a male vitamin is going to make or break a pregnancy for us 🤷🏼‍♀️

Marvellouslymadmum · 10/04/2021 18:14

@choccrumpet @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm ok now thank you after a bit of a wobble last night and major one this morning!

I'm hoping the sa won't take too long but if it does I'll get an at home one for him to do, he's recently given up smoking and started exercising though, is taking well man conception, plus a few extras and maca and ubiquinol. They can massively improve male fertility so he's been on those a couple of months now.

My soy tablets are 80mg so I'm thinking 80mg day 3/4 160mg day 5/6 240mg day 7 last time I did 160mg every day 2-6

choccrumpet · 10/04/2021 19:33

Hope you're okay @Marvellouslymadmum sounds like you're doing all the right things 💕 don't forget to be kind to yourself.

I've taken my first 100mg of soya, have been feeling crappy all day so am hoping this gives me no side effects to add on top

Marvellouslymadmum · 10/04/2021 19:52

@choccrumpet I'm ok, doing some baking tonight as it's my nieces birthday tomorrow, I think it just hit me a bit hard this month because I'd actually got some hope again after nothing for so long!
I didn't get any side effects apart from feeling a bit warm the first couple of nights

1940s · 11/04/2021 12:43

If you doubt you're ovulating at all and have many months of no opk results (will follow up with Dr at some point) what days is best to take the soy? 1-5 or 2-6? Thanks everyone

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 11/04/2021 16:10

@Marvellouslymadmum hope you have a lovely time at your nieces bday

@1940s I don’t know, maybe 2-6? Just wondered, are you temping? I just started last month to check that I am ovulating, it wasn’t very hard or too much of a pain. Might be worth doing to get some info

Marvellouslymadmum · 11/04/2021 21:09

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I did have a good time thank you it was lovely to actually see people
Even if it is out in the garden in the cold lol starting soy round two tomorrow 💪🏻 let's hope for a good result for us all this time!

acaciabluebell · 12/04/2021 00:16

On CD13 and I have some pretty strong ovulation pains. I only get this every few months so I'm happy. It's quite strong though and I'm wondering if the soy is making it worse? Struggling to sleep from the pain!

Also I took 3000mg of EPO every day this month and am yet to see any ewcm at all! So frustrating! I have an increase in watery cm but no egg white.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/04/2021 08:06

@Marvellouslymadmum that’s great! Yes fingers crossed for this month x

@acaciabluebell I’m sorry you’re in pain! Do you think to stop taking them? From when I took them last month I had bad headaches when taking them, and early ovulation that felt stronger (sore nipples, slightly sore stomach) and showed dark on opks. This month I’m on day three and have had no side effects so far

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/04/2021 08:07

@acaciabluebell I mean obviously it’s too late to stop for this month now! And hopefully for this month it means you’ll have a good result

Marvellouslymadmum · 12/04/2021 08:45

@acaciabluebell I had lots of strong Ov pain on the soy last month and then through the tww which is what made me hopeful 🤦🏼‍♀️ and no ewcm on epo as well though I'm only taking 1000mg

Definitely 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 for all this month! X

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/04/2021 09:03

@Marvellouslymadmum ah okay so maybe it is normal! I don’t normally have ovulation pain. That’s good then!

Marvellouslymadmum · 12/04/2021 10:43

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I rarely get ovulation pain normally either!

choccrumpet · 12/04/2021 11:26

No side effects for me so far 🤞🏼 don't normally get much of ovulation pains so am slightly nervous to see what that's like!

Sadcatsandcoffee · 12/04/2021 21:49

Hi everyone, hope it's ok to post. I took inspiration from this thread and started soy isoflavones this month. This is my sixth month TTC, I'd been using OPKs every month religiously and had only managed a static smiley once, on day 17 of the second month (28 day cycle). Never got a hint of a line on the cheap strip OPKs either.

Anyway just wanted to share that I've just had a static smiley on day 15 of this first month taking them, so really pleased so far. I track my BBT and have also never managed to identify ovulation that way so really intrigued to see if i get a rise now.

Wanted to say thank you for the helpful advice on this thread, for those of us lurking!

I took the soy on days 3-7 as i wasn't sure if I was ovulating late, very weakly or not at all.

choccrumpet · 12/04/2021 21:54

Hi @Sadcatsandcoffee amazing that it has worked for you!! Makes me hopeful it will be the same for me 🤞🏼thanks for sharing your experience. I'm not much for temping but am sure the other ladies will be able to help you out with that 🤗

ploopypleepy · 12/04/2021 22:16

@Sadcatsandcoffee that's great to hear! Mine didn't arrive in time for this cycle but will be taking them next. What dosage did you take over the days? X

Marvellouslymadmum · 13/04/2021 00:14

@choccrumpet for me it's like little pokes and pulls one side or the other (I've only ever had it a couple of times) though last month it was both sides!

@Sadcatsandcoffee I had the same trouble with the cheap strip opks looks like you've ovulated ok this month though 🤞🏻 ive Ben temping around 8 months but only realised last month that I've started to see a pattern (though my cycle varies an awful lot each month) but I'll try and help if I can

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/04/2021 12:36

@Sadcatsandcoffee that's great news it looks to be working for you!

Twiggywinkle13 · 13/04/2021 23:08

I’ve just ordered, I think I may be too late for this cycle as I’m getting spotting already. Are we counting day one as the first day of a proper flow? Sorry I know this is probably obvious but I’m never sure!

1940s · 14/04/2021 09:21

My fertility clinic counts day one as full flow before 1pm in the day.

So if I get full flow at 7pm on Monday, Tuesday is counted as Day 1.

Twiggywinkle13 · 14/04/2021 09:42

@1940s thanks for that - I hadn’t realised that. I usually start AF quite late at night. I shall certainly keep this in mind!
