Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

I read that af day one is full flow but I usually don't count if it's late in the evening either. 1st round of soy it was about 9pm so I counted next day as day one and started on day 2 this time started af sat morning and I started soy Monday on day 3 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 for everyone this month!

Twiggywinkle13 · 14/04/2021 12:29

Well girls my soy has been dispatched so just need af to arrive now. Had pink streak yesterday when wiping but nothing else, so who knows!!

choccrumpet · 14/04/2021 12:48

Hello ladies, taking my last cd6 soy tonight. I woke up with an extremely painful coccyx, when I move I get a terrible shooting pain. I didn't injure it and only reason for it being sore I can think of is potentially bad posture and working on a bad chair for the past year. But it has come on all of a sudden, I'm really hoping it's nothing to do with the soy, I can't imagine why it would be because of the soy but am still a bit nervous now. It's so bad I'm struggling to move as each movement brings a shooting pain and have camped on the sofa for the day a bit like a beached whale.

I haven't seen anyone mention this type of side effect. It can't be because of soy can it?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/04/2021 13:32

@choccrumpet oh no that sounds really uncomfortable, hope you're okay. I can't imagine it would be but you never know. Most of the side effects when I read into it were headaches, nausea, things you might feel when your hormones change anyway etc.

choccrumpet · 14/04/2021 14:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's what I'm thinking but I can't know for sure. Either way will take my last ones tonight and hope this improves and isn't related!

I've been feeling slight cramping on and off, it's very mild, maybe more like twinges and keep thinking I'm ovulating so am scared to miss it now 😅 but it's ridiculously early and shouldn't happen anytime soon. Have had none of my other normal ovulation symptoms.

Only side effect I've had so far is increased gassiness - tmi. I've got IBS and am normally gassy anyways but it has definitely increased 😳

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/04/2021 15:31

@choccrumpet that's a bit worrying if you're in pain. Could be crappy wfh conditions (I have them also, sitting in a dining chair) but not ideal it happening at the same time as taking something new.

Oh wow on the twinges, definitely keep and eye on it and try to ensure you can time it, as I almost missed it last time what with it coming so early! If you're able to that is, won't be too fun with lower back pain.

I think we're past tmi now, what with all of the stuff we've shared 🤣

I took my last dose this morning. No side effects at all this time. Something in the vitamins I've started is making me feel really good though, its either the ubiquinol, liposomal C or the iron I've even been able to ditch the coffee

choccrumpet · 14/04/2021 16:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it seems to have eased up compared to this morning so will see how I am tomorrow, hoping it's nothing to do with the soy!

We're going to dtd as we normally do except this time I'm hoping I ovulate earlier 🤞🏼 last month was difficult as we were bding for longer than normal, we're not super active so it's not easy. So hopefully we won't miss it.

You're right 😂

Wow that sounds amazing! What are you taking at the moment? I've felt quite crappy this time around. I think it's a mixture of lockdown, tired of same routine, mentally struggling a little so am feeling quite worn down, tired, low energy. I don't know whether it's better to take individual vitamins or stick with multi? I'm finishing up my individuals so maybe the change from multi to individuals has affected me too as technically I'm not taking as much as I was a few weeks ago.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/04/2021 17:23

@choccrumpet it gets to be a real drag after a while doesn’t it 😂 sometimes I’d rather even read a book in bed.

Thank goodness it’s easing and you’re feeling a bit better.

I was taking a multi vitamin anyway and felt no different. Followed @Marvellouslymadmum recommendations on It Starts With the Egg and now taking 1000mg liposomal vit C and 300mg of Ubiquinol. Both are really absorbable formats, and I feel like I’ve loads more energy!

Marvellouslymadmum · 14/04/2021 17:40

@choccrumpet I wouldn't have thought it was a side effect, but the wind however definitely could be! I've been extra windy but I'm taking so many supplements I've no idea which is doing it 😂

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I would imagine that the extra energy is the ubiquinol as it's supposed to have that effect! The last lot I bought did not so I'm looking for something better, where did you get yours from if you don't mind saying?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/04/2021 18:18

@Marvellouslymadmum well that's a bummer because that's the expensive one! I'll prob want to keep this up after just for the energy boost! Just Amazon, I got the Vesisorb Ubiquinol www.amazon.co.uk/s?ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_7&crid=3AFSO1GY7N5R8&sprefix=vesisor%2Cdrugstore%2C143&i=drugstore&k=vesisorb+ubiquinol&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
I just got 30 tabs, to try it out, but reckon I'll get the 300 mg next time

Marvellouslymadmum · 14/04/2021 18:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know it's not cheap! I've been looking at this one, I could only see the 100mg one though and it goes so quick doesn't it! I've got my oh on it too as it's good for sperm quality

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 10:14

Worth it to me to feel brighter and more energetic though! When I'm back at work will stop all those expensive coffees mid morning to try to perk up hopefully :)

@choccrumpet how're you feeling this morning? Think you, me and @Marvellouslymadmum are all about the same CD roughly

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 10:43

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 well I may give those ones a go! I'm cd6 today app told me to start opk tomorrow but I did one today just in case, it was low but glad I did it so I don't worry I've missed ov!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 10:51

@Marvellouslymadmum haha after last month I'd def recommend testing early! I have been from the day my period finished this time.

My partner is on my old less effective coQ10 pills to use them up. I'll batch order the bigger pills. Don't take them the same time as vitamin C apparently, they can cancel each other out

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 10:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes not taking any chances with missing it! I was looking on Amazon to see if I could get a deal on a few bottles but couldn't find anything! I didn't know that, I'll take them separately from now on thanks

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 11:46

@Marvellouslymadmum I know I am now spending a ridiculous amount of time taking pills and potions all separately and in individual spaced out doses - will obviously have to stop when I get back to the office and have more going on in my day 🤣

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 11:52

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 is t it crazy the things we do! But if it might work I'm giving it a go! Lol

choccrumpet · 15/04/2021 11:57

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm CD7 today, we are so close together! My back feels so much better today, I can actually walk and move normally. But sitting at my desk and I can feel twinges and aches so I think it's definitely to do with my posture / chair which is a bit worrying but nothing to do with soy thankfully! Getting a new work chair next week so am hoping that will help.

I've been using OPKs for a few days now because I'm so worried I'll miss it 😂 but they're low so far so nothing to worry about.

Those supplements sound amazing! I'm going to go back on my multi today and see if that makes a difference, if not then I'll try the individuals and add those on in a months time

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 12:04

@choccrumpet we are all close! At least it's not the soy making your back hurt, hopefully a new chair will help!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 12:47

@choccrumpet glad to hear your back is feeling a bit better! I feel I am getting neck ache and eye strain working on a laptop at home. Good the new chair is arriving soon!

Yay I'm CD 8 so we are cycle buddies, that's good. Anyone else close in CD to us?

I had my 1st acupuncture yesterday, it was good I think. She has diagnosed me with a hormone imbalance so is working to correct that. She thinks six sessions should do it - one a week

choccrumpet · 15/04/2021 12:56

Thank you both, I hope it's nothing serious and gets better quickly 😅

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that sounds so interesting! Making me curious and want to look into it myself. Did she give you any more info (that you don't mind sharing of course) about the hormonal imbalance, possible reasons or symptoms?

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 13:01

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's really interesting about the acupuncture, I've heard a few other people have good things to say about it and I'd love to give it a go but with saving for ivf I also don't want to use the extra cash!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 14:04

@choccrumpet caused by pregnancy loss. She specialises in fertility and said she sees a lot of people who have had a loss and haven't managed to normalise hormones afterwards.

The questions she asked me were about flow - she said spotting a few days before period, too heavy a period (changing super protection more than every two hours), too light a flow, clotting in period point to a hormonal imbalance. Blood should be red, not rust coloured etc.

She asked me about length of cycle, and said irregular periods, late or no ovulation, short luteal phase etc point to a hormonal imbalance. She wanted to know about cervical mucus changes throughout the cycle - ie do you see creamy, turn to EWCM, etc at the right times.

PMT symptoms also - cramps shouldn't be intense, shouldn't get insanely bloated (I do get a lot of bloating now) she asked about mood and skin. My skin has been bad recently, so that was another sign of imbalance.

I think a lot of it is probably stuff that we know - for me I know things are feeling out of whack. But it was nice to have someone go through it all with me and tell me what they thought

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2021 14:08

@Marvellouslymadmum yes but also a lot of people it hasn't worked for! So I think you're right to save your money for IVF, where its something more tangible.

Marvellouslymadmum · 15/04/2021 14:24

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm honestly hoping we don't have to go to ivf but I can't see it with the facts it's been over 3 years. All those things you've just been saying about hormone imbalance sound like me though, apart from the spotting I get it after af as it's going away but not generally before
