Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Also forgot to mention this is my 9th day of EWCM. Went to a jelly like consistency yesterday and then quite dry so assumed I’d ovulated and now today back to EWCM again! Angry

Slk3558 · 26/05/2021 13:36

I don’t mind ovulating late, but one thing that’s been on mind recently is that if an egg is ready around cd15 for example, and your ovulation fails or takes too long ..does the egg go bad? I think that’s what’s bothering because I keep thinking the egg has been ready and it’s going to mature so won’t be able to fertilize. Honestly I know I must sound absurd I think I just overthink things. But I got BFPs when I ovulated on CD17 and since I’ve been o-ing late i.e CD20 or more I’ve not had a BFP.

Anyone have any views on this ?

Sad
choccrumpet · 26/05/2021 14:05

@Slk3558 don't tell me that as I have been ovulating well into cd 20+ past few cycles 🙈 which is annoying enough as it is without worrying about egg quality. I haven't heard of anyone talking about that, not to say there's nothing to it. I don't know to be honest, hope it's not yet another thing to worry about 🤦🏼‍♀️ but I have seen other people mentioning late ovulation and getting pregnant successfully and all being okay.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/05/2021 14:13

@Slk3558 I did have this happen to me also, ewcm on and off for two weeks, I ended up ovulating right about the time my period was due and then my period was two weeks late. I think this was the month before I took soy, because I just got to the point where I was desperate and would try anything. It has settled down a lot now for me, so it might just be some more time (I know that's easy to say).

I did read about the poor egg quality for later ovulation, another reason I was worrying and trying to bring mine forwards. I don't know how accurate it is though, because obviously people do get pregnant with a later ovulation fine

Slk3558 · 26/05/2021 14:25

Ahh well I guess time will tell. Some women ovulate late naturally every month though and I think that’s fine, my concern was if your ovulation is being delayed due to hormonal imbalances. TBH can’t take any more TTC this month I’m just going to assume I’ve ovulated today and if not then sod it. I don’t get a BFP this cycle I might give soy a try!

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/05/2021 16:37

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don't think a smear usually effects things, had my second Covid jab on 22nd but I wouldn't have thought that would make my temps drop!

@choccrumpet to be fair I can usually tell ovulation etc and it's not that much of an issue but I'm not stressed so much as confused!

@Slk3558 I think ovulating late is stil a good thing because it just means your egg is mature I dot think it goes bad as such until quite late

We are just carrying on with dtd aiming for every other day and trying the same next month 🤷🏼‍♀️

katewitch · 26/05/2021 17:12

@Slk3558 from what I understand if you ovulate late it just means it didn't start developing until later, so shouldn't "go bad" iyswim? I'm with you on overthinking everything though!

I'm now on CD35 with my first proper high OPK. I am miserable, DH has a cold, but we will be having a quicky tonight for sure...! Grin

Its so, so disheartening ovulating this late and I won't be doing soy again as I'm sure that's the cause or at the very least made it worse, the latest I've ovulate naturally was CD30 last year under a ton of stress Sad I normally ovulate from CD20-24 which is late enough already...!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/05/2021 18:17

@katewitch that is miserable. Good luck for later

@Slk3558 totally get that as well, it really sucks the fun out of it

@choccrumpet I agree, so much to worry about, and often conflicting!

@Marvellouslymadmum hopefully the busyness, rushing about for jab and smear and semen analysis has just thrown you off a little and you'll ovulate soon.

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/05/2021 23:34

@katewitch that's so annoying for you, you'd think soy would help as it's supposed to be like clomid too!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I do hope so! I'm just hoping it won't be another mega long cycle too

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 00:29

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed not!

katewitch · 27/05/2021 09:25

@Marvellouslymadmum yeah exactly, that's what I'd been really hoping for! I admire you DTD every other day for so long, I'm hoping to avoid that as I think me and DH would both die Grin

Haven't done an OPK yet today (I do them after work) but have EWCM this morning, so I'm getting my hopes up that it's finally happening Hmm

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 how are you doing? You're mid-TWW right?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:00

@katewitch ah yay fingers crossed!!

7dpo here, just plodding along really. Have none of my usual pms sore boobs, back ache, bad skin etc, so chalking that up to my acupuncture possibly as I know she was trying to work on that.

How's everyone else doing?

TheHotelCalifornia · 27/05/2021 10:21

Hi ladies, I just wanted to pop back on and share some good news with you all. I really hope this isn’t triggering as I know how soul-destroying TTC can be, so totally understand if you need to scroll past and not read this.

I got my BFP after taking soy iso for the first time this past cycle. This was my second cycle trying (3rd cycle in total as we were told not to try the first) after having a miscarriage and ERPC in January as my cycles are so long. I took the soy days 2-6, 120, 160, 160, 200, 200 and ovulated the earliest I ever have on CD20. I was absolutely convinced I was out as I had awful period cramps from 5DPO and no other symptoms, did a test 8DPO and BFN so had a full breakdown. I then tested at 10DPO purely because I wanted to do a workout so wanted to double check, and I saw the faintest line on an IC. I did a FRER and there was a clear line. I can’t even tell you how shocked I was, honestly, I was in total disbelief. I’m now just over 5 weeks and me and my husband are just hoping and praying this is a sticky bean, while also 100% pretending it isn’t happening haha.

I was also taking 50 mg vitamin B6, folic acid, B complex and iron tablets this cycle but the soy iso was the only new thing I introduced. We DTD 0-5, 0-4, 0-2, 0-1, 0 and 0+1 and I lay with my legs in the air after each time haha. So we were pretty dedicated!

Anyway I just wanted to share with you all and I’m going to go back to pretending this isn’t happening and feeling incredibly anxious. Sending you all so much love and thank you for the support this month xxx

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:23

Long time lurker - I did soy for the first time after almost a year TTC on days 3-7 last month and ovulated exactly the same day (cycle day 20) as normal with just more intense symptoms (cramping, etc) and was really annoyed it didn’t bring it up at all. Started spotting 7 dpo per usual but now am 14 dpo and BFP! Here is my line progression from 9dpo. I also took baby aspirin after ovulation.

It can happen! Baby dust to everyone!

@TheHotelCalifornia and @NorthernLass213 congratulations to you both, lovely news!

Not triggering at all, the opposite, it's great to hear it worked for you guys. Makes me more hopeful for me, I'll get back on it next month.

Thanks so much for updating and hope you're both doing well and feeling good

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:34

Also @TheHotelCalifornia I think a few of us on this thread will understand your anxiety having had similar things happen. But you're no more at risk of another loss than anyone else.

Honestly so thrilled for you both. Was thinking we need some more luck on this thread! X

Slk3558 · 27/05/2021 10:39

@TheHotelCalifornia @NorthernLass213 congratulations good to hear some positives!!! Wishing you both all the best. Interesting northernlass that you took baby asprin as I’m following another thread where plenty of girls got BFPs after taking baby asprin after ovulation. I am starting baby asprin today myself.

Slk3558 · 27/05/2021 10:40

@choccrumpet @katewitch @Marvellouslymadmum ..@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 since hotelCalifornia got her BFP after ovulation on CD20 think we say it is entirely possible!

Just had my temp rise this morn so am officially in the tww. Can at least relax a bit now knowing I’ve ovulated !

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:42

@Slk3558 yay it finally came that's good news. The 2ww is a bit of a rest

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:42

Congrats @TheHotelCalifornia!! Definitely understand your hesitation to get too excited, but at this moment you are 100% pregnant! So excited for you! :)

I should also mention we only DTD the day of my positive opk - literally 1 time. The past few months we have done every other day so maybe DH needed a break?

I did 80mg of soy each day for days 3-7 at night, along with b6, prenatal, vit d, vit c and the aspirin. I also started using the young living progessence plus because I suspected low progesterone - but that could totally be mental!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:43

@NorthernLass213 can you tell me some more about the progessence and where you got it? I think that might be of some use for me also

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:45

@Slk3558 yeah I have read that it can help with plumping up the lining? There is so much info out there but because my luteal phase is 7-8 days usually I thought it was worth a shot!

I did have heavy spotting/bleeding 7-12 dpo so thought I was out for sure, but must have been implantation bleeding! (Now I’m just addicted to testing to check the line progression which I’m sure I need to stop!)

NorthernLass213 · 27/05/2021 10:49

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it’s an essential oil blend and I actually got it off eBay but you can buy it through a young living member. It’s essentially wild yam extract (natural progesterone) with other bits like vitex and peppermint extract. I just do a few drops on my wrist twice a day. It could be doing nothing but I find it calming so that helps too! I felt the same way as the aspirin, it can’t hurt and I have read a lot of reviews of people getting BFP first month using it so gave it a go. (Haha now reading this I’m seeing how desperate I am - trying everything!) :)

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 27/05/2021 10:56

@NorthernLass213 thank you. Do you just take it until you get a positive? And just for the second half of the cycle?

Slk3558 · 27/05/2021 11:07

@NorthernLass213 it’s really encouraging seeing that you got your BFP with a 7/8 day leutal phase! You’ve proved it can definitely happen. I think you made good changes to your cycle as well with the soy, progesence oil and baby asprin! How many mg of asprin you taking? 75mg or 150mg? X
