Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

@ploopypleepy any news on yours?

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/05/2021 12:11

@choccrumpet good old dr google hope you feel better now

@Riverskye you should be able to request a copy of the results from your gp so you can see what it was

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've had 6 days of flashy before so 🤞🏻 it'll still turn to peak for you

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 12:39

@Marvellouslymadmum these are peak opks. I've had ten flashys before, but these are the LH ones only, so zero to peak. But yeah I hope it hurries up!

How are you?

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 12:48

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes agree! Thankfully she thinks they're all okay for now.
That is so strange!! It sounds like you're doing all the right things and it must be really frustrating but try to not let it get you down. It sounds like you've got yourself covered even if you decided to stop. It is so odd! I'm not sure how accurate this is but have you felt your cervix to see if it's open?

@Marvellouslymadmum I've only got myself to blame for the headache but wonder if some of it is soy, feeling a bit nauseous too so could well be the soy and the high dose. Got one more day on it though so should be fine. If soy doesn't help bring my ovulation forward this cycle I might try days 3-7 next one and then let it go 😅

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/05/2021 12:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ahh I see I use the digital advance ones so they measure Lh and oestrogen. I'm good thank you had my smear today and hoping my peak holds out until after Thursday as oh is abstaining for his sa! Lol

@choccrumpet I felt nauseous and had a headache on the soy too hopefully you'll feel better soon

Slk3558 · 18/05/2021 12:56

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7w grrr sorry to hear that. It will happen! I felt exactly the same last month.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 12:58

@choccrumpet it might be the soy, headaches are really common on it apparently. Hopefully it'll go with your last dose. I can't really get to grips with the cervix thing, I've tried it before but it often seems high.

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed it holds out! This must be the only time you're hoping for a later ovulation!

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 13:41

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for you! My headaches were worse last cycle and I took a lower dose and it's not bad at the moment so that's positive!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I didn't understand my cervix until recently. You're feeling for a donut shape and the middle of that donut feels bigger (open) close to ovulation. In terms of whether it's high or low doesn't seem to mean much as it moves around. But I wonder if the opening is more accurate. It took me a while to understand it! But I'm not sure if it necessarily means you're about to ovulate. Mine is normally open right before I get my final peak before ovulation

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 14:56

Ladies I almost had a heart attack... decided to do a cheapie (middle) just to make sure I wasn't pregnant, didn't do much of a pee hold, because my period was light this time and this line came up immediately. Then did the frer and the top cheapie and both are obviously negative. I'm sure the middle one is broken but I've never had this happen before.. has anyone experienced this before? It's quite confusing. The top one looks like it's got the faintest line in person on it but it's a one step and I swear they always look like they've got a line on them so not really believing that one

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 14:56

Forgot to attach photo 🤦🏼‍♀️

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Applecrumble24 · 18/05/2021 15:04

That middle one is definitely positive! Strange about the frer though 🤔

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 15:17

@choccrumpet what sensitivity is the middle one? You had a little line before your period also didn't you?

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 15:24

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 the top 2 are both 10mIU.. I got a little line on the one step (top one) before period but I feel like they always have a line so I'm not really trusting it. But actually I had a clearer line on a Tesco test but put that down to a false positive as that's what a lot of the reviews said and nothing else was showing me a line.

I'm going to try hold my pee in and do another later. Ugh I feel sick about this, it's messing with me, so confusing 😭 I just want it to be one way or another

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 15:34

@choccrumpet Did you do the frer with the same pee as the other? Very odd. Keep us posted how you go

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 15:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yep all 3 same pee but no hold basically and I drink a lot of water, so was maybe an hour at most before I last went before I tested. Will do 🤦🏼‍♀️

Boc86 · 18/05/2021 16:32

Thank you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh no that’s so annoying not knowing what’s going on!

@Marvellouslymadmum no my GP really isn’t doing much, I’m having to really kick up a fuss even just for cd21 bloods and a fertility referral. They wouldn’t even give me progesterone after the bloods showed very low levels! They made me go to the mc clinic who luckily prescribed it easily.

Boc86 · 18/05/2021 16:37

@choccrumpet I’m sure I can see a line on the FR too!
The middle tests are good I really rate them!
I binned all my ones same as the top I feel like I could have a line even during my period with those!

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 17:24

That was short lived, definitely negative 😓 no idea where that line came from.

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Marvellouslymadmum · 18/05/2021 17:37

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yea I know! Only trouble is my second jab is Saturday so I'm just hoping I don't feel ill this time

@choccrumpet so sorry you're having mixed results it's such a nightmare when you don't know what's going on!

@Boc86 some gp's really are reluctant to help 😞

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 18:15

Thank you @Marvellouslymadmum I think it's unlikely I'll see a positive but also fed up going back and forth! Just want to be in my new cycle now.

@Boc86 I've had to push mine as well, it is frustrating when you expect them to be the ones suggesting things for you to get done. All tests I've had done I've had to research and ask for myself. I'm probably quite lucky they've agreed to them all. When it comes to more detailed things like when I checked my progesterone, it ended up being on the wrong day of my cycle and one doctor basically told me off for even checking it, that I shouldn't focus on that as that's not the issue... but it was done about a day after I ovulated so should have been redone 🙄 in my experience it seems like they don't know enough about this stuff and I could well be wrong about this, I think that's why it's been like it has been for me

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/05/2021 19:26

@choccrumpet I understand that completely!

On the gp front, I was originally speaking to one from my practice who literally didn't seem interested, sent me for a blood test where she found I had very low iron so put me on suppliments, then another for day 21 when I asked for more investigations and then said that's basically it no more help. So I asked for an appt with another gp and couldn't have got a more helpful lady!! She's done every blood test there is, sent my oh for an sa, referred me to fertility, agreed I probably have endo, done pelvic exams and now sending me for an us scan, she then phoned me this evening at 7.15pm to apologise as she's forgot to send for the scan appointment and was doing it now!! It's definitely worth trying a different doc at the same practice if you've not hit a helpful one

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 19:34

@Marvellouslymadmum this doctor sounds incredible! It makes such a difference when you feel so supported. I've had appointments with about 4/5 different ones at my surgery at this point, they must all know who I am now 😂 some are better than others, I know I've got a preference of a doctor but she's not always available so I take what I'm given on the day and they've all been supportive enough, some more than others.

But completely agree about trying another one if that's an option!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 20:15

@choccrumpet sorry that's confusing and stressful! I'm glad you've got a pretty amenable doctor though, and you also @Marvellouslymadmum.

Marvellouslymadmum hopefully you'll have acclimated a bit after the 1st jab and so be okay this time around!

I'm actually looking at a progesterone test from here, as its not one of the dreaded finger prick tests and pretty reasonably priced ! privatebloodtests.co.uk/products/private-blood-test-for-progesterone-in-blood

Boc86 · 18/05/2021 20:39

Ahh no @choccrumpet how confusing for you!

Yeah I’ve definitely found some docs will just agree to anything I ask and some absolutely dont want to help!

Arghhhhh my SI didn’t arrive :(
It now says arriving up to 21st!
I’m cd5 tomorrow so I’ll go to Holland and barratt and buy some, what’s the dosage of theirs? Is theirs the one where you end up having to take loads of tablets to get the right dosage?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 22:50

@Boc86 I'd be nervous to take it tomorrow, I think it might delay your ovulation. The pills at Holland and Barrett are pricey also, and from memory were more geared to menopause as had other things mixed in. Could try maca or something this cycle maybe? I think @Marvellouslymadmum is doing a maca cycle, and the OP had a positive from maca before she even started her soy
