Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

moly39x · 21/03/2021 23:33

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Day 18 after 4 days on flashing smileys finally got my peak. Ovulation definitely feels stronger, I've got a headache and feel a bit blah, got pains, diarrhoea and really need to somehow be appealing to my DH so we DTD tonight 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Frankie2015 sorry you’re not feeling well, but yay on the peak

Boc86 · 16/05/2021 12:04

Hello, I’ve read this thread from start to finish haha

I’m on cycle 13 of ttc my third baby. No problems having my previous two children 11 and 9 years ago, apparently it’s true your fertility decreases with age Grin

I had chemicals in June 2020, July 2020, ectopic nov 2020 and chemical March 2021.

I have a short luteul phase and low progesterone at 7dpo

I ovulate cd18-21 and then come on by 9dpo although the last 3 months it’s been 11dpo using my prog suppositories

The soy I have says 50mg and it arrives when I’m cd4 so I’ll be doing 4-8 this month but then 2-6 because I want to bring my ov forward

I’m cd2 so can start soy Tuesday as soon as it arrives :)

Welcome @Boc86 and sorry it’s a long thread with a lot of random chat 😬 😂 Good luck hope it helps you!
My month of no soy isn’t working so great, 4 days of positive opks, and no temp spike, so I am not ovulating yet despite positives

katewitch · 17/05/2021 08:49

Morning all, I'm joining Team Frustration / No Idea What's Going On at the moment!

If I was right about ovulation, AF is due today. No sign of her yet but I have been rather emotional sorry DH this weekend which is usual...

So far I've tested every day since with an OPK since and no highs or peaks, so if she doesn't show soon I may lose it as it would mean an anovulatory cycle with SIs, or its still to come Hmm

Just feeling super cynical and being a total misery today Grin

14dpo and a few BFNs over the past few days. Would just like AF to turn up so we can have another go and I can distract myself from catastrophising!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 09:08

@katewitch on no, frustrating. How did you measure ovulation, and is your cycle usually regular (sorry there are so many to keep track of)?

katewitch · 17/05/2021 09:30

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I usually use OPKs. I got a high one on the Friday with ov symptoms, but then couldn't test due to a crazy busy weekend (with all the signs), then had what felt very much like ovulation pains on the Monday on my left side. I'm now kicking myself that I didn't make the extra effort to test!

I'm usually very irregular, it varies wildly from one cycle to another. My fear is that if I was wrong and just being optimistic, then I'm still waiting and it will be forever until next cycle!

God what I wouldn't give to have a normal cycle Sad

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 09:36

@katewitch it sounds like you did ovulate 🤞 maybe your days could be out by a day or two for where you are now. On the plus side also, a 14 day luteal phase sounds ideal! 12 is the most I can seem to get. The soy did push mine out by 2-3 days. Good luck! But annoying waiting around

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/05/2021 10:41

@Boc86 welcome, will the docs not do any more than offer progesterone for you? I wouldn't thought they may offer something else like clomid?

@katewitch it so frustrating when af just doesn't show up!! What days did you take soy this month?

Slk3558 · 17/05/2021 10:58

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 exact same thing happened to me last month I had about 4 days of positive opk no temp rise eventually ovulated on day 20. I was seriously stressed out desperately wanted to see that temp rise and think it was delaying my ov.

katewitch · 17/05/2021 11:46

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thanks, really hoping so!

@Marvellouslymadmum it was days 2-6 this cycle, as I'd done 3-7 previously and it didn't bring ov forward at all (CD26 in the end I think)...

Hopefully she'll turn up by the end of the week...!

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/05/2021 12:11

@katewitch maybe the soy pushed it back a little more? When I took days 3-7 I ov'd day 14 on day 2-6 I ov'd day 16

katewitch · 17/05/2021 12:33

@Marvellouslymadmum gosh I hope not Sad will just have to wait it out... and keep doing an OPK every day in the meantime!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 13:59

@Slk3558 thanks, must have been stressful! I'm wondering if mine is underlying stress, new vitamins I'm on, or to be honest, the soy making my ovulation stronger on the previous two months.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 14:00

Maybe without the soy, my body is going back to diffident ovulation

Slk3558 · 17/05/2021 17:18

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Oh you’re not taking soy this cycle?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 17:49

@Slk3558 no I took it the previous two cycles (and ovulated perfectly on CD14 for these). Then had to take a months break for blood tests. And no have a 4 days of positive opks and no ovulation :(

choccrumpet · 17/05/2021 20:59

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that sounds really frustrating.. I hope you see a temp spike any day now! Keep us updated and hope you're okay.

I've got a bit of a headache today (cd4) but I don't think it's soy, I think I got myself worked up earlier, got some bloods back and had abnormal results for some things and dr google put me into a panic.. my gp isn't worried so I panicked for nothing (I hope) and now stuck with a headache.

Riverskye · 17/05/2021 21:10

@katewitch totally understand the frustration, whilst a BFP would be perfect sometimes you just want AF to hurry up already so you can start counting the next cycle! Hoping you get a positive soon!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I can't imagine how frustrating it must be with positive opks and no clear ovulation, fingers crossed your body tips and you get an obvious ov again.

I got results back for first blood test today and thyroid, testosterone, diabetes etc normal. One came back as in keeping with PCOS but the receptionist who was telling me them had trouble pronouncing what it was … I believe it was to do with androgens. Going to try and get a call with a Dr this week to get a clearer idea and see what the next step is. Def staying off soy until I know if I'm needing more blood tests or a referral.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 21:16

@choccrumpet oh no, your general bloods or your day 3 bloods? Sounds like if you’re Sr isn’t worried it’s okay, but so sorry for the stress and headaches.

@Riverskye thank you, but nowhere near as stressful as long cycles must be. Sounds like a good plan to stay off soy until you k ow what other tests you’re having, you don’t want it to affect them. Hope everything goes okay

choccrumpet · 17/05/2021 21:55

@Riverskye if you're in the UK, have you tried downloading the patient access app? It links up with my GP and I can see all test results there as soon as they're available which is normally sooner than when a doctor would call me back. Hopefully you'll get some answers soon!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it was for tiredness, my b12 came back really high and a few others were off and dr google brought me down rabbit hole of it being signs of this that and the other.. thankfully all okay for now, will just have to check whenever I do have more bloods in the future. Tiredness isn't resolved but she thinks it might be due to stress or mental health which is probably right. Not many talk about ttc having a negative effect on mental health and I think I'm definitely experiencing that

Riverskye · 17/05/2021 22:15

@choccrumpet I’ve never heard of that before, I’m in Northern Ireland though and it’s usually a little behind here. Definitely going to look into that to see if we have it or something similar as it sounds super useful!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/05/2021 22:40

@choccrumpet hopefully she gets to the bottom of the tiredness for you. But it’s great they’re being so thorough. And yes, Dr Google can be very bad!!!

choccrumpet · 18/05/2021 09:33

@Riverskye apparently it's only available in certain parts of NI so not sure if you will be able to get it

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 to be honest I asked for the blood test, along with all the other tests I've done so far, but it is great that they're listening and allowing me to get these things done

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 11:36

@choccrumpet worth it to get checked out, in case its something small you can easily fix. Or otherwise, if all is normal, then for peace of mind.

I had another smiley face this morning, so that is five now, and as we've been following SMEP (actually SMEP+ trying to hit morning and evening as I've very little cm to protect any sperm) I'm exhausted 😂 I'm thinking this will either be late ovulation or anovulatory now, which will be so annoying if so given all of the effort we've put in
