Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Well my OPKs only had light lines... I had a medium line on Friday, didn't test Saturday or Sunday (d'oh!) then light lines yesterday so if there was a peak there's every chance I missed it!

I'm going to keep doing OPKs when I get home from work each day and keep DTD EOD until I either a) get a positive OPK, b) get sore boobs and know my progesterone is raised or c) get a BFP...

DTD Friday, Sunday and Monday so hopefully we're covered if Monday was indeed O-Day Grin

Riverskye · 04/05/2021 11:17

So nice to hear that people are getting positive OPKs :) fingers crossed everyone gets BFPs in a few weeks time!

I've had another 70+ day cycle as it seems AF has arrived. I called my Dr and am booked in to get my blood tested as she thinks I may have PCOS so whilst not great news it's some progress hopefully.

Marvellouslymadmum · 04/05/2021 17:35

@katewitch yes as long as you're dtd every other day you're all covered

@Riverskye at least once they know what's going on they can do things to help

IntergalacticP · 06/05/2021 17:55

Hi @Riverskye I had a similar situation. My gp was quite helpful, did some bloods for me which indicated possible pcos due to high testosterone. She referred me to the sub fertility clinic so still waiting on them getting in touch. Suspect wait lists might have been impacted by covid. Weirdly I do feel a bit better knowing.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/05/2021 18:18

@Riverskye and @IntergalacticP really pleased they're looking into it for you, must be a relief to get things moving

Riverskye · 06/05/2021 19:41

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 had my first blood test today and they've said to call next week for results and then another test in a couple of weeks time :) hoping it can give some answers! DH and I have talked about possibly going private if the wait time is super long to see a specialist. I hope the soy is working out for you! I've decided not to use it this cycle.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/05/2021 19:47

@Riverskye ah yay that's great! They've done those really quick.

I've got my basic bloods tomorrow at the GP. We've booked partner in private for the semen analysis (was £180 so cheaper than I though it might be), so that's in three weeks rather than wait months. So I'm off the soy this month also. In fact off anything that can affect hormones. Just taking the arsenal of vitamins recommended by @Marvellouslymadmum for egg and sperm quality.

How's everyone else getting along?

Marvellouslymadmum · 06/05/2021 20:05

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think I'll be off soy next month too was thinking I'd give it a break and try the maca again for a month and see how that goes 🤷🏼‍♀️

TheHotelCalifornia · 06/05/2021 20:10

Hey ladies! Just a quick update from me. I was really excited to ovulate on CD21 this cycle, after ovulating no earlier than CD27 on previous cycles after coming off the pill and having a miscarriage! So was over the moon with that. We DTD 4 days in a row over ovulation as I had EWCM so we went for it haha, so just waiting now really. I’ve decided not to temp as it stressed me out so much last cycle so just going to try and not think about anything. I took 120, 160, 160, 200, 200 CD2-6. Hope everyone is doing okay xxxx

TheHotelCalifornia · 06/05/2021 20:11

Sharing my chart in case anyone wants to see!

Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?
Marvellouslymadmum · 06/05/2021 20:28

@TheHotelCalifornia your chart looks good so far! I like bbt charts even when they don't show a lot at the time they are sometimes good to look back on

acaciabluebell · 06/05/2021 22:14

CD14 and OPKs are stark negative still! I took Soy from days 3-7 so I'm a bit frustrated that it's been a week since my last dose and I'm still not even close to ovulating. Last month I took it days 5-9 and ovulated on CD14.

Not sure if I want to continue with this next month now... I might be overreacting though who knows lol

Slk3558 · 08/05/2021 13:37

Hi @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 . I’m new to this thread and considering trying soy. My situation is similar to yours.. I’ve had 2 mc since ttc and since my last mc I’ve been ovulating late around cd 20-23 with a leutal phase 10-11 days. Since coming off pill in September my leutal phase was always 10 days but I managed to get bfp from B6. But onto cycle 3 now after mc and wondering whether to start soy.

Regarding the temping, I’m a bit of an expert on charting now and I can always pre empt AF because of the temp drops. I just noticed your new to temping..36.77 is quite good leutal phase temp but they say ideally should see a good shift of at least 0.3 celcius from your follicular phase temps. If you see a drop of more than 0.1 c for 2 or more consecutive days for me that normally signals AF. (Corpus leutum regression so less progesterone and therefore lower temps).

I’m also considering ditching everything next month including opks and supplements, the constant obsessive monitoring I feel makes me anxious but I also think going through my cycle blind would also make me anxious! I have the obsessive need to know what’s going on with my body at every stage of my cycle as if that would in some way guarantee me a BFP. It’s a control thing!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/05/2021 15:16

@Slk3558 sorry about your MC's. I think for me it was doing something proactive, and for me the soy worked to bring mine forwards. So might be worth a shot. In tandem I'm working on egg quality after some recommendations from @Marvellouslymadmum

I know what you mean also because I'm kind of addicted to temping and using opks because I want to see what's happening when. It doesn't matter from a sex perspective because we are doing the same whether I get a positive or not, but I like to know 🤣

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/05/2021 22:35

@acaciabluebell you can ovulate 10
Days after the last dose so may be next couple of days

Hi @Slk3558 sorry about your mc. Soy may help bring your ov forward

I'm cd1 today - new I'd be out this month due to only dtd 1 time in fw but I'm now under strict instructions to inform the oh of the fw and ov time this month so we can dtd at the correct time! Going to give maca root a go again next month rather than soy but will stick around here if that's ok?

Twiggywinkle13 · 12/05/2021 23:03

Hi everyone, hope you’re all well. Started spotting today (CD27), I think my period will arrive tomorrow, if not Saturday. I’m wondering if next month I should go for SI days 3-7 again? I had much stronger ovulation tests this month so assuming that’s down to SI, my LP is still 11/12 days. I’m wondering if I should start SI sooner, would that lengthen my LP and give the potential for implantation for a longer time? I don’t know! Any advice gratefully received. Next cycle DH has been told there will be A LOT of BDing!!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/05/2021 08:26

@Twiggywinkle13 I think 11-12 days is meant to be quite decent still for a luteal phase! You could try 2-6 days to see. For me between starting on day 2 or day 3 didn’t make a difference - I ovulated on CD 14.
I’m interested to see what this cycle without is like for me now. My temps are already higher in the follicular phase than previous two cycles on soy 🤷‍♀️ I think lower temps is meant to be better for cm and ovulation

Frankie2015 · 13/05/2021 08:31

First time trying soy after filling this thread. I took a 100,150,150,200,200mg on days 2-6. My cycles are really irregular but I'm on day 13 now and can really feel strong ovulation pains, CB OBK tests are showing a flashy smile so hopefully means I'll peak soon! I'm so hopeful we've been trying for some time now so would be amazing if it actually works for us! Will keep you updated 😬

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/05/2021 08:35

@Frankie2015 that’s really exciting, hope it does work for you this month!

Twiggywinkle13 · 13/05/2021 08:45

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that’s interesting - keep us updated.

@Frankie2015 that sounds promising!!

choccrumpet · 13/05/2021 09:29

That sounds really positive ladies! @Twiggywinkle13 hopefully you period comes soon and you can get going again and @Frankie2015 🤞🏼 for your ovulation!

I'm on CD35/11DPO (🙄) and expecting my period tomorrow but am feeling really crampy, nauseous and periody this morning so am hoping it comes tomorrow and not any later.

I took soy 2-6 100,100,100,150,200 which I think was too low of a dose so this time am thinking 100,150,200,200,200 but not sure which days, either 2-6 or 3-7. Does anyone think that would be too high of a dose and any idea which days might be best to try? Soy delayed my ovulation this cycle so I don't want to have the same next cycle.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don't have a clue if temps are meant to be lower, hopefully this cycle will still go well for you in terms of ovulation & luteal phase 🤞🏼

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/05/2021 09:36

@choccrumpet have you tested? I took the higher dose, and would say 2-6 if you want to move ovulation forward.

I took did an online temping course (cos I had no clue what I was doing!) and it said lower temps are better for the follicular phase and for better cm.

choccrumpet · 13/05/2021 10:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don't think you need to ask, of course I've been testing since too early DPO 😂 no line which I was expecting but have stopped as I'm expecting my period. I would be surprised if I don't get it today actually because i feel so periody right now, but would mean my luteal phase is only 10 days which isn't great.

Of course there's a course, I didn't even think about that! That makes sense. Hopefully your cycle will still be okay. And thanks for your opinion, I'm leaning towards 2-6 but upping the dose and see if that helps

Marvellouslymadmum · 13/05/2021 10:26

@Twiggywinkle13 I'm giving soy a break this cycle and going back on the maca root, will see how that goes for 1-2 cycles then maybe try soy again.

@Frankie2015 that's great! I had similar on cycle 1 of soy but nothing cycle 2 was very confusing

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/05/2021 10:43

@choccrumpet I thought it might be the start of a new zen you, after the acupuncture and all 🤣🤣 Well wait and see, 10 dpo would still be really soon for a test to pick up, hopefully your period doesn't arrive.

@Marvellouslymadmum yes looking back through my charts my first cycle of soy I had a lot of things happening around ovulation - really awful skin, really sore nipples, cramps, but the second month I had less of this. Good luck for the maca!
