Soy Isoflavones..yay or nay?

Been doing some research on soy isoflavones & I didn't know what people's opinions are?

I have a 35 day cycle, ovulate between CD17-21 - currently 7th month in of TTC after 1 early loss at 5 week in October.

Do people have any experience with taking them? I read the following on an old thread here about with CD to take them..

My concerns are; I have little/none EWCM (have conceive plus lube) but I get positive OPK every month (temping just stressed me out which I decided would do more harm?!) and I'm sure soy iso is to help ovulate? But now I've read the below, it looks as though it can help the egg. I'm cautious about messing up my cycle so was just looking to hear other people's experience.

Here's the info I've read here (have lots more saved in my notes if people want to see about the dose etc if interest) :)

Thank you x

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

Well AF arrived... but Instead of 7dpo, I had spotting at 11dpo and AF at 12dpo. So a 28 day cycle and that's a positive I guess! I doubt it's anything to do with soy but just thought I'd update for anyone else with a short LP.

RoseGold24 · 23/04/2021 06:08

Sorry to hear that @acaciabluebell Fingers crossed for the next cycle x

acaciabluebell · 23/04/2021 08:11

Thanks @RoseGold24. That's so good to hear that it extended your LP. Total opposite for me, I think maybe SI just isn't good for me or something. I have heard that it can mess up cycles for people who have 'normal' cycles. But it's weird because I really did feel like I ovulated nicely on SI. It was day 14, I had strong cramps etc. Just my LP has gone messed up. I'm not sure if I should try it again and this time take it days 3-7, or just not take it at all.

acaciabluebell · 23/04/2021 08:12

Or maybe it's because I was taking so many new things at the same time. Soy Iso, vitamin B6 and evening primrose oil. Only the SI seems to have worked

Marvellouslymadmum · 23/04/2021 08:42

@acaciabluebell sorry af came, soy can change your ovulation day slightly so it's probably down to that. Did you check opk or bbt to confirm Ov day? Epo and b6 can also alter your cycles

@RoseGold24 it probably is the soy, it's known to change cycles slightly so definitely a good thing that it's longer just annoying that it arrived at all!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 23/04/2021 08:44

@RoseGold24 and @acaciabluebell really sorry your periods have arrived 😢

@acaciabluebell that’s really strange, but a shorter luteal phase doesn’t sound ideal. Did you go straight into flow or spotting first? I don’t know if I’d take it again if it had that effect on me because our goal was lengthening. But really annoying if you could feel yourself ovulating well etc x

acaciabluebell · 23/04/2021 08:46

@Marvellouslymadmum Yeah I tracked my ovulation so I'm pretty certain about it. I ovulated earlier on CD14 and and got my period 9 days later

acaciabluebell · 23/04/2021 08:48

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it was light spotting in the evening. Full flow today, so maybe it was a 10 day LP, but that's still shorter than my usual 11 days. I've just spoken with another girl who had her LP shorten in her first cycle of B6 but then it got longer the cycle after that...not sure if I should continue for another cycle just to see

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 23/04/2021 08:50

@RoseGold24 I’d probably chalk the longer luteal phase to the soy also. Mine has lengthened on it, and I am ovulating earlier, on both cycles I’ve taken it now. I was taking the b vitamins anyway for previous cycles with no effect, so for me I think it’s the soy.

RoseGold24 · 23/04/2021 08:55

Thanks everyone! Ooh I hadn't thought about soy changing your cycle length but at least it's gone in the right direction for me. I'm going to start with soy on day 3 this month x

Marvellouslymadmum · 23/04/2021 08:57

@acaciabluebell yes I've heard about b6 and epo (I'm taking both) changing things it's frustrating as we take them to help then don't know which one isn't!

My ovulation is definitely later this month -
Last month soy 2-6 ov cd12
This month soy 3-7 no ov yet and on cd14

I think it'll be peak tomorrow so ov could be tomorrow or Sunday 🤷🏼‍♀️

Riverskye · 23/04/2021 11:18

I decided to take a test yesterday at 12dpo and it was a very obvious bfn. Having really strong cramps today which sadly means AF is probably right around the corner. I took on days 2-6 for the last 2 cycles so I'm thinking of taking later on my next.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 23/04/2021 15:09

@Riverskye sorry that's rubbish. Hopefully its not your period coming though

acaciabluebell · 25/04/2021 17:57

On CD3 today and taking my first SI of my 2nd round. Gonna do days 3-7 this month. I think if it doesn't work this cycle then I will try one more time and then give up on it. 3 cycles is enough I think.

Not sure if I should take the EPO and B6 again, or if I should take one and not the other.

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 19:06

I'm cd16 here and got my peak yesterday so today/tomorrow is probably ov day 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I might try maca next couple of months if this doesn't work and alternate lol

TheHotelCalifornia · 25/04/2021 19:16

CD14 here and nothing, did cheapie OPKs a couple of days and did the first cb digital this morning which was low. I’m a bit gutted but I ovulated on CD27/26 previously so i guess I can’t expect miracles. I’m worried that I somehow bought the wrong ones, I bought these: SOYA Isoflavones 3000mg, 6000mg Daily Dose. 120 Vegan Capsules, 2 Months Supply www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y395PW7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_BV1HR8GZ3KKXE9H9WD2A?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 they have 40MG of SI per capsule so I think they’re ok? I took 120, 160, 160, 200, 200 days 2-6. I guess I just need to wait and see. Hope everyone’s doing okay xxx

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 19:43

@TheHotelCalifornia as they say they're 40mg per capsular I'm sure they're fine. It'll probably bring your ov forward just maybe not all the way on first go,

choccrumpet · 25/04/2021 20:30

I'm on CD17 and still nothing. My ewcm only lasted a day, have had it on / off but not consistently. If I peak in the next day or 2 it's a day or 2 earlier than last cycle and I guess that'll be good but I'm not sure it'll happen that way.

Sadly I don't think soy has helped bring my ovulation forward. I'm really struggling mentally with all of this so unsure if I'll take them again, I haven't seen many people talk about it lengthening their cycle so I'm not sure what is best to do. Has anyone got experienced this?

I may have to stop all of this and do a few cycles without anything if I can't get out of this sad place in the next few weeks.

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 21:06

@choccrumpet sorry you're feeling low, we all have times where it all gets a bit much I know I have! Sometimes it's good to take a step back and relax for a bit.

I've just been really cross the last few days as it's been my fw peak yesterday so ov today/tomorrow but we only dtd Thursday cos oh ibs has flared up and he's in pain, I know it's not his fault but I'm irrationally cross with him! We tried today but had to stop as it hurt too much and now I'm cross and we are both frustrated 😂 going to try again tonight 🤞🏻

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/04/2021 21:40

@acaciabluebell I agree I reckon three cycles is enough to see if it’s working, reckon I’ll do the same.

@TheHotelCalifornia it only moved mine forward by 6ish days so it might not make too much of a big difference but should hopefully bring it forward.

@choccrumpet I’m really sorry, hope you’re okay 💙 MarvellouslyMadMum is right, we all have wobbles, and feel crappy sometimes. There’s so much waiting around with trying to get pregnant, so so much time to get stressed 😩 I’ve not heard about lengthening cycle, but tbh we are trying to figure it out on this thread with a few of us trying it because a lot of the info available online is anecdotal. Hopefully you’ll ovulate in the next day or two. And hopefully this cycle is successful! But absolutely step back and take a month or two without and without tracking everything to get back into a positive headspace. Otherwise it’s so tough x

@Marvellouslymadmum nooo what terrible timing! I’m honestly not joking, could you use a syringe if the sex is too painful? I probably would rather than waste a month 😂 that’s proving he’s well enough to do that

Marvellouslymadmum · 25/04/2021 22:04

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've no idea if he'd be 'up' for it 😂 I may suggest it tomorrow if we don't get anywhere 🙊

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 25/04/2021 22:14

@Marvellouslymadmum the things we’re willing to consider 😂 honestly I’m considering it just to get a break in the fertile window. Hope you manage to get it done whichever way 😆 But yeah if he’s feeling poorly it’s probably not something he’ll be too keen for.

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/04/2021 00:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've no idea I'll let you know though!

choccrumpet · 26/04/2021 09:22

Thank you both @Marvellouslymadmum @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know I haven't been trying as long as you have but it is so tough mentally to go through it cycle by cycle. I'm not even sure if I'll ovulate this time, but I'll keep thinking what to do with the soy, if I should try it again next cycle. For me a longer cycle is tougher mentally so it feels crap but I'm trying to relax about it and just let it be and get through it.

@Marvellouslymadmum that is frustrating! We experience the same every now and again (not being able to bd) and at this point I've just stopped fighting it and trying to believe that if it's meant to be it'll happen anyways and not get myself frustrated as it doesn't help. Good luck asking him that 🤣 tbh the idea of that sometimes does feel easier than bding.

Marvellouslymadmum · 26/04/2021 09:38

@choccrumpet I think we all go through ups and downs and get to points where it's mentally very difficult and then get past it again for a bit it's like a circle going round and around!

I may just leave it this month now as I think passed ov day anyway 😑
