TTC first baby (dc1) after MC

Hello, I know there are similar threads for TTC after miscarriage/loss, but I thought it would be good to have a thread for those trying for their first baby. Personally, I know a few friends who've sadly had MC but they were all pregnancy number 2 having already had a healthy baby on first pregnancy. All 3 are now pregnant again which gives me hope but I can't help but be stressed/worry if I will ever have a healthy pregnancy and be able to carry a baby to full term. So I feel like I'm in a slightly different position to those TTC after loss who already have babies. I hope that isn't insensitive. Hopefully there are others TTC their first and we can support eachother.

My story is 27yo, came off pill sept 2020. Pregnant January 2021, had a scan at 7 weeks, dated 7+1 and saw a HB. Had a scan at 9+4 and baby hadn't grown and no HB so MMC. Had surgical management so ERPC on 5th March. I have just finished bleeding earlier this week snd trying straight away before first period. 🤞🏻

@EsseKey yeah that's my issue with lockdown too. I have a friend who had a baby last April and a friend who is currently pregnant. She also had a miscarriage with her first so she is good support but I can't lie, it pains me to see her with her bump and to hear how it's going. Obviously I'm so pleased for her but it also reminds me of my own pain.

Yep I guess we've just got to pick ourselves up and carry on! I believe well all get there one day we just have to be patient!

@MrsF111 I've also just read that book following my second MC. I've now switched to a prenatal with methylfolate and am taking myo-inositol to help with my PCOS. It's been 24 days since my MC and no sign of ovulation yet... I find TTC with irregular cycles really tough so I'm hoping the myo-inositol will help regulate my cycles. Also made some changes to my diet and got rid of most plastics in the kitchen. To be honest I don't know how much these things will help, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something, and I guess they can't hurt. Hope it helps us both get our rainbow babies soon!

MrsF111 · 09/04/2021 11:24

@AnxiousTurtle3 ive got the inositol and folate supplement and also cut dairy for possible PCOS (i have 35 day cycles and found PCO on a scan but not had PCOS diagnosed)
Finding the book really interesting though - thinking about ordering the CoQ10 and also getting a water purifier for the tap. But like you it just helps to feel like im doing something

How is everyone doing? X

justwant2beamum · 20/04/2021 10:25

8dpo for me. Not hopeful for this month at all. No rhr rise so think I'm out x

@justwant2beamum ah I'm sorry to hear that. Will you be testing early or do you think you'll just wait to see if af turns up?

I'm CD26 out of a 28/29 day cycle, not feeling too optimistic myself x

EsseKey · 20/04/2021 10:37

Hi ladies
I finally got my AF after mc, it took 5 weeks but it's finally here.
I was hoping to be lucky enough to be pregnant again immediately but I was not putting too much expectations on that.
It's good to have AF back so that I can start fresh - I feel a bit anxious and excited at the same time...but scared to not be able to get pregnant again soon. I realised that one of the best parts of being pregnant was not having to worry about getting pregnant...funny eh?! Sad

clcmuminprogress · 20/04/2021 13:36

Hi All - New to this thread but having read your comments it looks like I'm in the right place...
So my husband and I started TTC November last year and finally had the news end of January that I was pregnant with our first child and we were over the moon and couldn't believe our luck. Everything had been going fine, I had the usual pregnancy symptoms including 3 weeks of extreme nausea and sickness but no pains or spotting etc so leading up to the 12 week scan we were both really optimistic that everything would be fine.
What should have been a wonderful day turned into our worst nightmare as I'm lying on the bed being scanned and the overwhelming silence from the nurse which felt like an eternity until she finally said 'I'm sorry but there's no heartbeat'. Unfortunately we were only measuring 8+7 and I had suffered a 'silent miscarriage'.
I had booked in for a D&C 2 days later and the EPU team were really supportive and put me at ease.
We were both devastated and heartbroken and I personally felt 'defective' knowing that all other women from both sides of our families had flown through pregnancy with no problems so why was my body letting me down and not even giving me a sign of what was to come?

We told close friends and family and we both decided to let some colleagues know in work so we didn't have the awkwardness of explaining a sudden absence from work and re-living the process. I was so overwhelmed by the support we received and the experiences shared by others knowing that miscarriage actually seemed to happen more often than I ever could imagine.
I had a few friends that didn't really understand the term silent/ missed miscarriage and didn't understand why I was needing surgery.

I'm still trying to come to terms with what has happened but both my husband and I agreed we would like to start trying again straight away. (we waited 2 weeks to avoid any risk of infection) - I'm now 3 weeks in after the D&C, my hormones have all but gone and now have the dreaded wait until AF is due.

I'm now torturing myself with the daily searches of 'how long does it take to get pregnant after miscarriage' & wondering if every little twinge, niggle and cramp is a sign of pregnancy or possibly ovulation or implantation or is my body just playing tricks on me because I'm so desperate to become pregnant.

Has anyone had any successful experiences of pregnancy early after a miscarriage?

EsseKey · 20/04/2021 14:30

@clcmuminprogress
so sad to hear your story :( my timings were similar to yours (ttc november, conceived in january). I also had absolutely no alarming symptoms until the day of mc so when we found out at the first scan that baby did not grow and I was probably going to miscarry, it was a shock and I had the worst 2 weeks of my life waiting for it to happen.
Unfortunately I don't have a personal success story to share with you, I hear anecdotally of many people for whom it happens so I hope it will happen for us too!
I perfectly understand your desperation and crazy googling and spotting every possible symptom, you are not alone! I hope you can get pregnant soon or at least find some inner peace to deal with the process in the best possible way!

clcmuminprogress · 20/04/2021 15:26

@EsseKey - I'm really sorry to hear of yours too! Yes I'm hoping it'll happen for both of us - regardless of a bumpy start to the year I'm determined to think this year will will get better Smile
Will keep you updated on my journey and sending love to everyone going through this. I honestly was no naïve before this process as to how difficult TTC can be.

EsseKey · 20/04/2021 16:21

Yeah I know, a lot of people are - and rightfully so....although the % of people experiencing mc or infertility or other issues is very high, still the majority goes through ttc and pregnancy relatively smoothly :(
I am normally a pessimist so I was extremely aware (maybe too much I must admit) of everything that could go wrong, from taking a long time to conceive to not being able to sustain a pregnancy. Now I feel just so unlucky to have been among those that had this problem, but as you can see we really are a huge group! and none of it is our fault, it just happens.

Let's keep each other updated, who knows that we can have both another simultaneous conception Wink

Hey Ladies, can I join this thread?

Ttc our first baby, had 2 miscarriages... sadly both in first trimester. Don't know when I will graduate finally !! Just want to get pregnant already.. currently 3dpo I think 🤞🤞

EsseKey · 20/04/2021 17:27

Hi @lena21 sorry to hear that you had 2 miscarriages...must have been so difficult to experience it twice! How are you doing now? 3 dpo is an exciting time, let's hope you will be lucky this time - just a few more days to go before you find out! :)

Thanks @EsseKey it's been a difficult journey...I suffer from PCOS but conceived naturally twice ... so quite anxious if it's ever gonna happen for me...

Read ur story, sorry to hear about ur mc, I feel ur pain. My DH was the same.. it took a while to align, all the tracking, DTD is so hard .. where are u in ur current cycle?

EsseKey · 20/04/2021 18:40

@lena21 I got my first period after mc just yesterday...
I'm in that crazy phase of planning when to dtd in the next couple of weeks (assuming I am still ovulating on cd15 as it was before mc...which might not be!) Grin
Not sure yet whether I want to tell my boyfriend or not that we will have to dtd on those days...I mean I am sure he gets it 100% and would be on board with that, but I also know he might get nervous knowing he has to 'perform' on a schedule (it happened before!)... on the other hand we only see each other during weekends because of his work so we will need to make the extra effort and do the longer commute every other day for the next couple of weeks...so he should know I think! ughhh that's hard - not at all how I would have liked my baby to be conceived! :(

justwant2beamum · 20/04/2021 18:45

@clcmuminprogress sorry and welcome. I'm similar to you, BFP 19th jan, mmc found 1st march, surgery 5th march. I did try straight away but don't know if I ovulated then I got AF 27 days after surgery. So I'm currently 8dpo on my first cycle post mc xx

@EsseKey - a fresh start that's always nice, first two weeks are always the best, lots of energy and great mood. I know timing dtd can be stressful, all the spontaneity is gone and it just becomes a chore but there's no other way too... despite telling my DH hun it's my fertile week he always forgets and the tension oh my my ... I really want to move past this phase and move on ...

MrsF111 · 21/04/2021 08:59

Hi @lena21 sorry to hear you had 2 mc, that is the same as me, I’ve had my first period after the second misscarraige now and just a week away from ovulation I think, I have long cycles!

@clcmuminprogress it’s so cruel getting to the scan and finding out, I hear about lots of people that get pregnant quickly afterwards so hopefully you will be one of them, I’m in my first cycle following my second mc so I’m hoping I am too!

@EsseKey its funny how glad we are for AF after a mc when we spend the rest of the time hoping she won’t turn up! Glad you have a fresh start now. Hopefully this is the month!

EsseKey · 21/04/2021 09:21

thanks @MrsF111 fingers crossed! I'm excited about this fresh start, but also anxious about having another big disappointment if I can't get pregnant or if I have another miscarriage. Just overthinking everything atm!

lena21 · 21/04/2021 11:33

@MrsF111 - yea I suffer from PCOS too but managed to conceive naturally twice... I always wonder whether this was the reason why I misscarried... My BMI is all normal and i am now on metformin to see whether this could make the difference...

Hope we get third time lucky 🤞🤞🤞🌈🌈🌈

clcmuminprogress · 27/04/2021 17:31

Hi all - so I'm now only 2 days due until my period so got the horrible waiting. Although I started to get some cramps and twinges so thought I'd try an early pregnancy test which came back positive. I'm not getting my hopes up just incase it is just hormones from previous miscarriage. Thinking I'll wait until first day of missed period to test again (although who knows when my period is actually going to come after miscarriage - I've read it can be your normal cycle or weeks after?!).
If it comes back positive again I think I'm going to ask for a blood test from the doctors just to be sure. Does anyone know if a blood test is 100% confirmative?

lena21 · 27/04/2021 17:38

@clcmuminprogress - that's good news, fingers and toes everything crossed for you 🤞🌈. I am 10 dpo, another 6 days I hope to go for AF..
yep blood tests confirms the actual hcg levels which would typically be higher than pg tests. Can I ask what were your symptoms?

MrsF111 · 27/04/2021 17:48

@clcmuminprogress that sounds promising!! Fingers crossed for you!

I think im ovulating tomorrow - if my cycles have stayed at 38 days long, ive made some dietry and supplement changes so was hoping they might have reduced to closer to 28 days but not sure, a few cramps this afternoon and feeling a bit sick - no idea if that is an ovulation sign or not?!! Anyway at least im nearly at the 2WW if they have stayed at 38 days
