Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

@Lastyearttc Hello, oh it's a tough decision. I think I would abstain and have the procedure done on Monday. As it could improve your chances and it's already been 9 months without conceiving. But I know how hard that will feel as every month of trying is so important when time isn't on our side. What is your gut instinct telling you to do? I'm a big believer in that x

Hi @Lastyearttc sorry I'm just catching up with messages now, I'm also 42 and have a DS aged 4, I had my 4th consecutive mc in December and been trying since August 2017 - I had a HyCoSy too when we were thinking it was a fertility issue rather than a recurring mc issue, I did get more peace of mind for having it done and there never seemed to be a right time as I think I put it off twice - did you decide to go for it? It is a tough decision, can totally empathise but as @Jem1979 whatever your gut instinct says is a good indicator, good luck!

Hello @Twothirtyam - since I started doing SMEP and using the ovulation sticks (smiley face one's) I have been a lot more relaxed about when to DTD as you're following a plan, and I have got pregnant before using that method (I've tried most methods Grin). So might be worth trying that and then you can relax a bit knowing you're following a plan, might help give you some control over it?

I am testing on Wednesday, well that's with the 6 days early result kit as I can never wait until the day AF is actually due, which this time will be 17th May...I actually skipped the last day of the SMEP method as I got a flashy smiley face on CD9 (like you @babybird), and a static smiley face on CD 10 so DTD Day 8, Day 10,11 & 12 and then neither of us were remotely in the mood on Day 14 and as it had been 5 days since my +OPK I thought it was safe to miss it - however, DTD has not been great this month, I just haven't been in the right head space and as you all know, DTD is not fun when it becomes so perfunctory and mechanical! Confused

Good luck to all this cycle, wherever you are! I am only having two more cycles after this one and then we are not ttc anymore (although I know for a fact I will just stop taking my DHA and CoQ1 but continue to take my folic acid and Vit D...just in case Wink)

Hi everyone, I used to be on the TTC over 35, but at the start of the year I turned 40, we hadn't really stopped "trying" but sort of stopped thinking anything would happen. 40, endometriosis history so thought my chances were very slim anyway so were not taking any precautions, and I'm sorry to say, had stopped the folic acid, pre natal vitamins etc. But here I am 3 days late, my period are always very regular. I have a cheapie PT upstairs and I'm half afraid to take it.
We already have 2 bigger kids, 14 and 10 so felt blessed and of the opinion what happens will happen, so no pressure. As I said we just had given up. Why am I so nervous.......

41FerrisWheels · 10/05/2021 12:09

@Jigglykween oh that's exciting! Can totally understand your nervousness as you had put ttc to the back of your mind and probably got your head around not having any more, so it will be a bit of shock, but please don't worry about stopping take the fc...just start taking it again now if you get a BFP - good luck! xxxxxx

Jem1979 · 10/05/2021 12:34

@Jigglykween hello, agree that is exciting. I would just go for it! And if positive start taking folic acid now and I'm sure you would be grand, there must be tons of people in the same boat! Good luck...

@Twothirtyam I also started using OPK's when started trying for 2nd and found it easier. I guess though at the end of the day it's about DTD regularly to try and catch!

@41FerrisWheels good luck to you too! Agree it can be very hard to get in the when you know you have to!!

Good luck @Jigglykween
Cd 13 here and have a solid smile on CB finally!

Lastyearttc · 10/05/2021 21:37

@41FerrisWheels I postponed the hycosy... just couldn’t waste a cycle at this age! Dtd instead although looks like I’m ovulating today so 2 days before ovulation. Still in with a chance I’ve got to hope! Looks like you dtd loads so fingers crossed for you! What’s DHA btw? I take a prenatal multi vit and coq10 oh and evening primrose oil before ovulation!

@Jigglykween good luck!🤞

41FerrisWheels · 10/05/2021 21:46

@Lastyearttc Oh good luck for this cycle then, it sounds like you don’t get a lot of opportunity to DTD if you’re not living with your partner so make hay whilst the sun shines as they say! Me and my DH started taking the DHA (oh so many acronyms!) after I read a Zita West book (I’m a total sucker for recommendations!) but now I just take it, I think it’s just fancy Omega3 but the blurb is “ Vital DHA contains Omega 3 essential fatty acids (EFA’s), plus a small amount of Zinc. It has been designed to help protect both partners’ DNA from oxidative damage during preconception as well as to support normal fertility and healthy sperm production.” Bet you wish you’d never asked!! I’ve nearly run out now and not going to buy anymore..

@Jigglykween how are you feeling today? Did you take a test? Hope you’re ok xx

I’ve had a BFN yesterday and today, AF due Monday which is the same day we head to the Lakes for a few days, so although not practical it will be a distraction at least...xxx

Hope you’re all doing ok x

Jigglykween · 13/05/2021 08:22

Thanks for checking in @41FerrisWheels , sorry to hear of your BFN, although that is early so still time to change. I tested 5 days after period due date, and was a BFN, still no period, although I feel crampy. I will go to my GP if still no sign early next week.

Jem1979 · 13/05/2021 08:36

@Jigglykween funny I was just thinking of you too. Frustrating it's a BFN and no AF. @41FerrisWheels you never know it isn't over for the cycle til AF shows up. Hope you have a great time away.

Speaking of AF mine has arrived, first after my MC so feeling much more positive as I climb back on this crazy TTC rollercoaster! I also bought a clearblue fertility monitor which is probably a waste of money but after the MC helped me to feel like I was being proactive. Plus I'm a sucker for a gadget! Smile

Hi all, how's everyone doing? 8dpo here are trying not to think about it! Only dtd 3 days before ovulation this month so just want time to pass so I can try on my next cycle!

Jem1979 · 24/05/2021 08:32

@Lastyearttc hello there sorry I meant to reply sooner but was my wee boys 2nd birthday on Thursday so had a busy few days! It's hard trying to DTD to schedule some months isn't it?! I'm CD14 and got a peak today on my monitor so planning to DTD next few days. Not getting my hopes up but just pleased things seem to be back to normal fairly quickly after my loss. Hope everyone else doing ok! How are you feeling @gizmo167 has the sickness died down any? xx

OP posts:
Lastyearttc · 24/05/2021 17:57

Well AF arrived as expected, so just spent c£50 on more supplements for this cycle!

@Jem1979 good luck bd this week. Out of interest, how much is a cb fertility monitor? Just use ics so thinking of upping the game lol

Jem1979 · 24/05/2021 22:03

@Lastyearttc It was just under £100 including 20 ovulation tests and 4 preg tests. So not the cheapest! £50 per cycle is a lot... what are you taking? Sorry to hear AF arrived, I recently read somewhere that instead of seeing it as a negative thing, you should think of it as the first day of AF could be the first day of your next pregnancy (when they date it back). I thought that was a good way of looking at it!

OP posts:
Lastyearttc · 24/05/2021 22:54

@Jem1979 well 120 tablets of Coq10 which I need to up to twice a day so that would last me 2 months. That's £30. then EPO and pregacare... are you taking any vitamins or supplements at all? I wrote a list of about 20 others take, its a bloody mindful!!!

Jem1979 · 25/05/2021 07:12

@Lastyearttc Yes same take CoQ10 then just folic and vitamin D. I know, the more you read, the more you think 'this might be the one that finally works' lol

Hello everyone! Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck in your ttc journey's and a special thank you to @Jem1979 for starting this thread, it has been a great source of comfort, reassurance and support to me over the last few months. My DH has been offered a job overseas for a year so we're going to go for it, and after 3 years of ttc and mc's I am ready for a total break - but no doubt I will be back when I return to the UK! Never say never! Grin Best of luck to you all and thanks again for all your wise words and humour - a real tonic! xxx

Jem1979 · 26/05/2021 12:20

@41FerrisWheels Ah that's nice news! Thanks to you too for all your messages of support, best of luck on your new adventure. I hope you are going somewhere nice and warm? xx

41FerrisWheels · 26/05/2021 14:15

Thanks @Jem1979 I will be glad of a change of scenery, although will miss home and family a lot too..the job is in Bali, so my suitcase will be mainly getting packed with mosquito spray as the little b*ggers love me! But it will be an adventure and hopefully I will fit in and make some friends...time will tell! I won't be ttc whilst there though as they have zika virus so not worth the risk, but I have a feeling I will be back on here this time next year when hopefully all of you will be pregnant or have had a baby!!!! Good luck everyone! xxxxx

Mattieandmummy · 26/05/2021 14:18

Hello,

can I join the thread? I am now 40 😔 and trying to TTC our second after a partial molar MC and then a super traumatic birth which luckily two years down the line had a happy outcome.

We've been trying since Jan this year and since then I've had a MC and I'm pretty sure a chemical last month. I've had to stop bfing my little girl as my hormone levels were just far too low to carry a pregnancy. They're all back to normal and this is the first month TTC after being given the all clear hormones wise but after 4 months of bad news I'm definitely finding it difficult to be positive and not stress.

gizmo167 · 26/05/2021 16:20

@41FerrisWheels wishing you and oh all the very best on your exciting move, hope all goes great for you both xx

I'm currently 9+1 & still an absolute nervous wreck, anxious as can be that something will be wrong, it'll either be a mmc or molar or something else extreme! Still really nauseous, hits worse in evenings & have been sick few times, still waiting on midwife appointment & scan date, wishing the time past!

Jem1979 · 26/05/2021 16:47

@41FerrisWheels Bali sounds amazing and a totally different way of life could be just what you need. Enjoy x

@Mattieandmummy Hello yes of course more than welcome! Sorry to hear you e had a rough time. It's hard going this baby making! I'm interested in what you said about the hormones, as I'm still feeding my 2 year old. Took me 9 months to conceive again and then had a MC last month. Have always wondered if the feeding was a factor. Did you get your levels checked by your GP? I'm hoping to stop feeding but my wee one feeds to sleep and when he wakes in the night so it's not going to be easy!
