hester - did you ever manage to find out any info on my query about cm occuring early and later in my cycle?

MommyD · 29/10/2004 13:32

Tania - Normally cd 13/14, I think - but I have never temped, checked CM etc... but this month I have decided to use OPKs to see what's going on. Started at cd9 and haven't had a + yet.

bibi, mommy and jeddah, thank you. thought cd10 was a bit early, but the lack of a line this morning confused me - I've bd'd on day 8, 10, 12 and have plans for tonight so I should have all bases covered anyway!

why do you use opks in the afternoon? I thought you would have more of the stuff in your urine first thing, and they say that to test you mustn't have peed in the previous 4 hours and I can't ever wait that long! lol. of course i will now follow the mn advice, just wondering why?

MommyD · 29/10/2004 13:48

the LH hormone builds up during the day and is at peak in the afternoon.... Also you should try and hold pee in for 4 hours....?! I managed 3 yesterday and today.... must be all the grapefruit juice I am drinking....

Sallie · 29/10/2004 13:49

I also live in SW London!!!

mariella · 29/10/2004 13:56

mommyd, now that you mention it I think that first one I did was in the afternoon... that must be why it was darker. oh dear, hope I haven't missed it this week. only have two left, should I do one this afternoon and one tomorrow, or just start from tomorrow afternoon and so do the last one on cd16??????? SO complicated!

Tania2 · 29/10/2004 13:56

Getting very tired its 11pm in Melbourne and i might not be able to say up so i may miss out on all the chat here again tonight. Bugger..what time does everyone usually log on?

OP posts:
MommyD · 29/10/2004 13:58

mariella - I reckon that you have not missed it. How dark was the afternoon one? It could be quite dark but not as dark as the ref line and still not be a +ve - because it was not as dark or darker than the ref line... I would do a couple more and see what happens.....

Bibi20 · 29/10/2004 14:03

I'm in Wandsworth!

My dh has gone away today - bd'd last night (ill-timed sneeze) but didn't have EWCM until this morning (but dh left before I realised - thought it was last night's swimmers TMI - sorry!).

Determined not to temp / use opks this month as all getting a bit much.

Instead I'm checking cervix position - was low last night (ouch!) but is high today - dh not back until Monday eve - aarrghh!

Oh well, let's hope his swimmers and my EWCM met up somewhere and they're hanging around right now waiting for an egg!

hester · 29/10/2004 15:03

Pamina, I live in West London but work in Aldgate. Just think, we may have sat next to each other on the tube...

Sallie, I'm so sorry, I do have the info here somewhere. Am just going into a meeting and then will post again...

Sweet dreams, Tania

hester · 29/10/2004 15:05

PS. Why am I lying? I work in Whitechapel, but wander up to Aldgate at lunchtimes so I can feel a bit more posh...

Where do you work, Pamina?

Another SW londoner here - in Balham (Gateway to the South). Bibi20 - impressed that you check your cervix, I can never find mine and I've had a number of doctors have the same problem during smears (ouch and TMI, sorry!)

hester · 29/10/2004 15:48

Pamina - yes, do! I was beginning to think the same myself.. look forward to hearing from you.

Wilbur - I've got the same problem! Have been made to feel like a freak by docs in the past because my cervix is about as accessible as the Holy Grail. (Maybe that's why I'm not pg - the sperm get too exhausted and give up halfway there!) Then a lovely nurse told me to always ask for the 'Winterton' speculum, which is long and slim (rather like myself, I like to think ). I recommend it to you!

Have I just shared too much?

hester · 29/10/2004 15:53

Sallie, here is what I found on eggwhite CM AFTER ovulation:

"Some cervical fluid after ovulation is possible because the corpus luteum, though its main function is to produce progesterone, produces oestrogen in small amounts and this may cause you to see some cervical fluid. If your chart does not show clearly that you already ovulated, do not stop having intercourse. If your temperatures show clearly that you ovulated, then you are likely no longer fertile. It is also not uncommon to confuse semen and eggwhite or watery cervical fluid."

Then later it says:

"Several patches of eggwhite fluid with no clear thermal shift probably means that you are having an anovulatory cycle. You can have fertile-like cervical fluid and still not ovulate. If you have several cycles that show this pattern, you should ask your doctor to look at why you might not be ovulating. If you have several patches of eggwhite cervical fluid and a temperature rise, then your ovulation was probably delayed due to some external reason. In any case, you shoudl still have intercourse every other day when you see eggwhite cervical fluid to make sure not to miss an opportunity".

Does that make sense? It sounds like you need to do some charting to be able to understand what is going on.

Sallie · 29/10/2004 15:56

thanks hester. I always seem to have the same pattern and still managed to conceive dd (ds was conceived when I was on the pill so not having "proper" cycles at that point). Of course there is always the complicating factor if you bd recently as that can produce cm too, can't it?
