@MotherOfShihTzus - sorry I just realised I missed a question earlier in the thread - I did straight IVF and my husband's sample was apparently very good, so that was positive at least ☺️ I'm both dreading and can't wait for the blood test results Monday 😬😬

orangeloo · 03/02/2021 18:32

@starkid do you think you will POAS or are you holding out til the bloods?. So tricky, I really don't know what I would do, it's so individual too as to how you are feeling at the time I guess.

OP posts:
starkid · 03/02/2021 19:17

@orangeloo - i'm actually going to wait, as I don't want to risk it being wrong! Plus delaying in case it's negative..

orangeloo · 03/02/2021 20:27

@starkid I do think that's wise. They encourage you to wait for a reason I guess. Everything crossed for you x

KatBeCool · 05/02/2021 05:34

Ahh I missed all the comments!

@starkid fingers crossed for you! It's great that you have one more embryo on ice.

@FlapJackered do you remember the prednisolone dose you were on? My clinic had me take it to but sometimes it felt like too much. On the other hand, I felt fantastic the entire time I was on it. We moved to our need place, I was lifting and carrying things (before the transfer) and I felt no soreness the day after. My poor DH was not happy from an the stair climbing, I felt nothing haha. Not a single headache or migraine, just pure bliss. If it wasn't a medication, I wish I could take it forever.

@MotherOfShihTzus I know it's been a few days since you asked about weight, but I wanted to respond as well. Consider more vigorous exercise rather than just getting your steps in. A mere half an hour at the gym a few times a week is worth more than 10 thousand steps every day. If you can't go to the gym, even simple aerobics in front of the TV would do. As far as eating, it's not the same for everyone but most common advice is to eat more smaller meals throughout the day.

FlapJackered · 05/02/2021 06:45

@KatBeCool I was on 10mg a day. I slowly tapered it off from the 7 week scan.
What dose were you on?
That's amazing you felt so good on it! I seem to remember i was getting major headaches from the progesterone pessaries so didn't feel the benefits!
I was also put on inhixia injections until 12 weeks, which weren't fun but I also feel may have helped with the holding on.
Have you got another cycle planned?

KatBeCool · 05/02/2021 06:58

@FlapJackered I was on 5 mg until the transfer and then was told to take 20 mg after. But I took 20 only for a few days and then gone down to 10. I don't care what they say but 20 mg seemed like an overkill. I have a consultation scheduled with another clinic for the middle of March. Hopefully better luck then.

MotherOfShihTzus · 05/02/2021 11:47

Thanks @KatBeCool I've been doing Pilates which feels like the right level of activity - muscles engaged but low impact. I've also just had a thyroid testing kit + hormone test kit arrive today so will be doing those as soon as I have the right cycle day! Which clinic are you scheduled with? Have you been disappointed with your current clinic?

I've started reading the Alan beer book @orangeloo and it's astounding! I've left a message for the Epsom clinic mentioned, because as it turns out, my acupuncturist recommended dr Shehata to me just this week!

Not long to test day @starkid ! Smile

starkid · 05/02/2021 12:04

I've had what I'm pretty is my period start, lightly yesterday and full-on today, so I think I'm out. I told the clinic and they said to continue the progesterone gel for now and come to the blood test still Monday or if I can't face it, to do a home test (I presume Sunday/Monday) and let them know. To say I feel depressed is an understatement.

orangeloo · 05/02/2021 18:49

@starkid oh no, poor you. I'm sorry to hear this but If it's light, I have heard many people say they had spotting every colour of the rainbow and some light bleeding and were still pregnant so I've still cos my fingers crossed for you.

@MotherOfShihTzus glad you like the book! I have also been doing Pilates the last couple of months. I love it! gentle but still engaging muscles. Which is what I love. Plus walks and dancing, I switch it up but try stay low impact.

MotherOfShihTzus · 05/02/2021 19:16

Oh @starkid I feel for you - but as @orangeloo says - I still have hope - My sister thought she'd had a full on period, so didn't know she was pregnant til 2 months, so def continue with progesterone and you never know. Thinking of you x

MotherOfShihTzus · 05/02/2021 19:18

Also - sorry for the 'someone I know' anecdote isn't helpful - I know how I get when ppl say that to me (frustrated and annoyed) I hope that was ok x

starkid · 05/02/2021 19:38

Thanks both, it's ok you never know. It's been very heavy today so I doubt it, but I'm going to be testing tomorrow anyway to know either way!

KatBeCool · 06/02/2021 03:44

@MotherOfShihTzus as long you feel at least some level of exhaustion after exercise, it should be OK. Muscle building, like weights, is helpful too since you burn calories to recover and rebuild muscles.

@starkid you shouldn't be able to start AF while on progesterone, especially not full flow. There are many possibilities, like a cyst. Definitely don't stop any of your medications. There's still a chance.

starkid · 06/02/2021 10:54

BFN on my test this morning as expected. Will do another one Monday morning to be sure then ring the clinic - I hope they have some kind of insight as to how I'm managing to have a heavy period while on crinone progesterone gel Confused then I guess see if they're letting people in on new treatments so I can line up my frozen day7 blatocyst.

orangeloo · 06/02/2021 11:24

Sorry @starkid that is confusing. I hope they have some answers for you and I'm still hoping for you.

MotherOfShihTzus · 08/02/2021 09:26

Oh @starkid feel for you. Have they given any indication as to what they can work on? The reproductive @orangeloo suggested is so interesting; it may be worth looking into that? 'Is your body baby ready' by Alan beer. X

MotherOfShihTzus · 08/02/2021 09:27

*reproductive immunology that was meant to be

MotherOfShihTzus · 08/02/2021 09:32

But if a surreal weekend for me; Saturday morning my private clinic called to book in our planning meeting, then less than an hour later, I had the call from the NHS clinic I've been waiting 16 months for Shock so in a bit if a quandary; I was due to go ahead with private in my March cycle day 1 c. 21st, but nhs will take c. 3-4 months. I'm now thinking I may go ahead and get egg collection and try and get embryos privately, to hedge our bets? We obvs don't know if it will work on our nhs attempts, and even if it does, we would want baby 2... just worried that getting the embryos frozen - would that count against us a preclude us from having our free nhs goes? Frazzled!!

starkid · 08/02/2021 09:34

I've got a follow up call with the doctor in a couple of weeks then can start the process for frozen embryo transfer with my next cycle, so March :) least I have something to plan for again I guess!

orangeloo · 08/02/2021 16:16

@starkid sorry this wasn't your time Thanksbut like you say it's good you've got get to look ahead to.

@MotherOfShihTzus oh how typical is that so annoying. I believe that once you go private u cannot have nhs ivf. How they know and if that's correct everywhere I don't know but definitely worth looking into. I guess the other big factors are money and how you feel about waiting. Definitely a quandry! feel for you.

OP posts:
MotherOfShihTzus · 08/02/2021 18:09

Ahh, so would freezing embryos, even if not transferring, count as ivf? What about egg freezing? I just want to give myself the best chance!

orangeloo · 10/02/2021 19:27

@MotherOfShihTzus yes even if you don't end up transferring- collecting eggs and making embryos is ivf. I don't think they would freeze your eggs on nhs as they would be treating u as a couple.

OP posts:
KatBeCool · 12/02/2021 04:15

@starkid sorry to hear it didn't work out. Did they test your progesterone at any point to make sure you had enough? It's possible to still start your period on progesterone but rather uncommon.

starkid · 12/02/2021 08:54

@katbecool they didn't test it during IVF no 🧐 I had the usual tests before being referred though. I will ask about it and see if maybe next time they'd put me on progesterone injections instead of the gel, or do a blood test partway, or up the progesterone amount given. I've only got the one frozen embryo so I want to give it as best a chance I can before having to pay and go through the full IVF again.
