TTC cycle 1 (just come off pill) for #1

Happythoughts91 · 23/10/2020 15:52

Hello!

Im in my first month of trying with my partner of 12 years. With wedding plans up in the air due to covid we decided we didn’t want to put our lives on hold any more so here we are!

I came off the pill, had my withdrawal bleed and now in the two week wait until next week when I can test.

I guess I just wanted to come on here and see if anyone else is new to trying too. Or people who can give light in how long it took them to conceive after coming off the pill.

We haven’t told no one we’re trying so I feel like I haven’t got no one to talk too about it all. Trying to stay positive and would love to have a happy ending to 2020.

Sending baby dust to you all xxx

@AMS19 Thanks :) I've been tracking everything with Clue for a year and my Cycle length is on average 35 days.
Its exciting but also quite scary. I'm 35 and still feel like I'm in my 20s. But, I'm not, and I'm very aware of my age since I've hit 35.
We've also both been taking Pregnacare Women and Men too, since beginning of September. Don't know if that will help or not 😄😄

Happythoughts91 · 24/10/2020 21:10

Sounds like everyone is sounding really positive. For me since I ovulated I haven’t felt right since. My breasts/nipples are so tender (sorry to much information) I’ve felt a little sick at times, but then seem to eat and it does go. And I’ve got a constant tightening feeling on my left side of my ovaries. Exactly where ovulation pain was. I’m thinking it’s just my way of my body getting back to normal and being due on ‘supposedly’ next Friday I thinking it must be that.

@CardioQueen yes nice to have someone experiencing similar! I am trying to do some meditating regularly to quiet my brain a bit.

@GreenApplesYo @AMS19 @positivitytree2020 totally agree on the pill killing off libido! I saw a couple of threads since coming off about this on MN and many people say the same. I also think it was not that great for my mood. If this all works out and I do have a baby I'm not sure I'd want to go back on it!

Louisa199 · 25/10/2020 07:11

@AMS19

Haha *@GreenApplesYo* that is how I feel now! I am constantly turned on and even dream about having sex 😂😂 my husband is loving life. I just can't get enough of it. So hopefully thay is a good sign! I feel like I will give up on the OPks too, they are so disappointing for me! Most of the time my premom app comes up with an error message when I try scan them in 🤦‍♀️ furlough is amazing but totally understand the unknown isn't great. Do you have an idea if/when you might go back? That is still a decent temp rise! I'd be happy with that 🙂

@Happythoughts91 I took a coupe of cheap tests when I came off the pill because my post pill symptoms were awful - so bloated, belly ache, sickness, reflux etc. Literally every pregnancy symptoms you could imagine! Bastard body playing tricks 😂😂 im gonna try not to test until at least 14 DPO or day AF is due, whichever is later.

@PowerOfFlowers welcome! It is absolutely brilliant you gave your body a year to get to normal before trying. I so wish I had done that. How long are your cycle usually? I'm CD11 so a bit behind you but I had a 28 day cycle last time so should be ovulating any day now 🤞🤞

I use premom as well, what error message did you receive? Have you sent feedback to them? Sometimes when the test line is too faint, the app gives a 0 reading. Their support team told me to upload the picture through album if the test line is faint. Well, that does help.
AMS19 · 25/10/2020 08:08

@louisa199 thanks! I've tried through the album too. The issue is my LH levels are 0, so it isn't the app it's me who has the error 😂😂 really frustrating as I would love to see some progression. I think I'll just use up the ones I have then maybe switch to clear blue in 3 cycles time (by when I should have used my cheapies up) if I don't fall. I think the truth is I just haven't ovulated yet so there just isn't the LH progression. Not surprising really given this is only cycle 2 off the combined pill which stops you ovulating and i was on for 7 years (cycle 1 if you exclude the one straight off from withdrawal bleed to first proper AF). CD12 so 🤞🤞🤞 something happens this month soon!

GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 08:41

@curcurbita yes, I thought @AMS19 had a good point about it being a shame we aren't informed more about the pill. I can't really see millions of men talking a pill which messes with their libidos... But it's assumed it's fine for women, just another 'one of those things' (don't get me wrong, I put up with it as well). I feel like my mood is better too, I wouldn't want to go back on the pill either. 10 years is enough 🙂

@AMS19 I'll be back to the office, kind of. I work in an outdoorsy job for a charity. I've been replenishing my supply of thermal socks hehe.

@PowerOfFlowers I'm 35 too! This is why even though things are a little up in the air with my job, we decided to go for it anyway. Once you reach 35 you definitely feel like you've reached some kind of worrying milestone in terms of TTC, even though the stats aren't too bad really.

AMS19 · 25/10/2020 12:39

I cannot explain how excited I was seeing this today! You can see how non existence they have been i nearly gave up. I know it is still "low" but for me this is amazing!

TTC cycle 1 (just come off pill) for #1
GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 12:51

@AMS19 omg it doesn't even look that low. How exciting! Really hope you get a peak today or tomorrow

AMS19 · 25/10/2020 13:03

I know right @GreenApplesYo thank you so much! It means nothing in terms of i might not actually ovulate, but after having so many really low ones it is great to see my body is at least trying something! I think I'll do another one or two tests today then do two or three tomorrow in the hope I get some progression. The second line came up very quickly, almost immediately, which feels positive!

GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 13:28

@AMS19 by the way, you might already know this and I've probably already mentioned it many times, at length but there are different types of LH peak? I didn't know about it, it's worth googling if you haven't come across it already. I had a double peak which is a normal variation, some people get a plateau, also normal. The day I thought I was going to ovulate I probably didn't. Worth bearing in mind! Mentioning it as it took me unawares and of course I catastrophised over it although it was fine in the end. My peak was like C.

AMS19 · 25/10/2020 13:34

Thanks so much @GreenApplesYo I actually didn't know any of that. My OPks are just cheapies so I guess all I can do it take a line darker than the control like as a peak (which is what I assume the premom app does?!) Hopefully if I do miss my peak my BBT will show something. It is still early days and this might all fade away, but at least something is happening 🤞🤞

Happythoughts91 · 25/10/2020 14:10

Sorry girls, I’ve missed a few messages. Been out this morning in the woods walking.

@AMS19 that looks really promising!!

After reading all your messages I didn’t realise you may not ovulate. I didn’t realise that at all. It’s all so confusing and they don’t make it easy for us to fall pregnant at all do they!

I got a peak on the Clear Blue OPK sticks. After a day of nothing. Then 5 of high. Then got the peak. I’m now wondering if it’s correct? I’m guess it would be?

I just not thinking to ovulate on the first month of coming off the pill is too true to be true? Xx

OP posts:
GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 14:20

@Happythoughts91 I think you can have a gradual onset peak too, where you get highs for several days. Are you temping? Sorry can't remember if you are 🙂

This was interesting, if complex! www.fertstert.org/article/S0015-0282%2812%2902135-8/fulltext

@AMS19 I'm using the 50 for £10 cheapo OPKs too. It was really obvious with my first peak that it was going to be a v high result, as soon as the urine started moving up the stick, the test line started to develop.

AMS19 · 25/10/2020 14:27

@GreenApplesYo yes my test line appeared before the control line did. But it isnt as dark. Although not sure I would say it was low...but who knows. I think i have the same ones as you

@Happythoughts91 I'm sure you did ovulate. The only way to really know i guess is other signs. I think in isolation none of these are entirely fool proof. That's why I'm BBT as well. I think a peak on an OPk followed by a temp rise is a very strong indication of ovulation. If you get ovulation pain after a peak I would say that is equally a strong indication!

CLP86 · 25/10/2020 15:26

Hello,
Can I join this thread too please? My OH & I are hoping to try from December but I'm too excited!
I've ordered folic acid & vitamin D for me & wellman fertility for him. Thinking of starting them in November as my last pill will be 03 Dec.
It will be our first... do I need to be doing anything else (other than the Deed!) I don't understand all the terms yet but I'm sure I'll catch up!

@happythoughts91 - I'm in Rayleigh so not far from you!

Happythoughts91 · 25/10/2020 15:42

Thank you @AMS19 has really strong ovulation pains. They were awful, I even went to my other half I don’t think I could do this every month lol. This is coming from someone who luckily has never experienced period pains.

@CLP86 Welcome!! I only joined on here yesterday. We started trying this month I come off the pill end of September! Sounds like your good to go with the vitamins. I’ve actually private messaged you on here as we’re so local. Xx

GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 15:50

@AMS19 hmm yes, I think I'd say yours is high? Hard to tell from a photo, but I reckon it looks similar to ones of mine that read as high on femometer. It looks like one of mine which came up as 45% (high) on femometer.

Hi @CLP86 welcome! 🙂Deciding to TTC is so exciting, isn't it. I don't think you really need to be doing anything except having sex every other day? That's all the NHS says to do after all 🙂here are some of the terms that get used a lot, they took me a little while to get the hang of:
OPKs = ovulation predictor kits (urine test for ovulation)
BBT = baseline body temperature
DTD/BD = sex aka baby dance
AF = period

AMS19 · 25/10/2020 15:58

Hi @CLP86 welcome! Can I just leave one thing with you that I wish someone had told me?! Come off the pill now and use condoms. Obviously totally your choice but your body takes months to get back to normal. I'm on another thread called post pill party, go have a read. If I could do my time again I would have stopped the pill 6 months before trying. Obviously dont want to interfere, just wish someone had told me that so felt I should 🙂

@GreenApplesYo yeah I do wonder if another app might have a different result. If the next one looks as strong maybe I'll try scanning in my Fermometer app as well...Good shout! 0.53 is 53%, so you'd think there were be a standard amount for high!

@Happythoughts91 i would say that plus a peak you almost definitely ovulated!! So you are in for a really decent chance 🤞🤞

curcurbita · 25/10/2020 16:08

@AMS19 Oh exciting for you! Hope that turns into a peak.

@GreenApplesYo that's an interesting graph/paper thanks.

@Happythoughts91 well it's totally possible to ovulate straight off the pill, some people get lucky and get their BFP without even having a period! So you might be one of the lucky ones :) However from what I've read getting the LH surge doesn't guarantee you actually ovulated (can only tell that through temping or RHR increase I think?), but at the very least it suggests your body was gearing up to do something so must be a good sign!

Happythoughts91 · 25/10/2020 16:09

Ekkk thank you @AMS19 cab test next Friday so fingers crossed.

@CLP86 I do agree about the pill. Thank you didn’t forward plan like that. We woke up one morning with not planning to conceive. Borris announced the 15 rules at weddings. Literally within 5 minutes of him finishing a hes conference we had decided to let fate decide and try to conceive. It was all abit of a whirl wind.

But if we was to of got married I would of come off the pill about 2/3 months before the wedding to help let it come out my system. Xx

Thank you for the lovely welcome!

@greenapplesyo - thank you for the definitions! It's like a whole new language!

@ams19 - thank you! I will definitely take a look at that thread - all advice gratefully received. I guess I just read somewhere that you can be in your most fertile the first month you stop the pill and (secret hoped) that would be the case for me. (Wishful thinking I know!) In reality after 11 years on the pill and being 34 I know it's going to take a bit more effort/finger crossing etc than that!

@happthoughts91 - thank you for reaching out and for starting this thread! So lovely to be able to share stuff here!

Will/Is anyone using a fertility app?

Happythoughts91 · 25/10/2020 17:07

@CLP86 Ooo I haven’t heard that!! I would love that to be the case for me lol. I’ve been on the pill for 12 years.

I got the Ovia app and I’m pretty impressed with it so far!! You can track everything from symptoms, DTD, ovulation stats, etc xx

OP posts:
AMS19 · 25/10/2020 17:17

@CLP86 thats what I read too but literally everyone I know has struggled so now I'm not so sure. Apparently the mini pill is much better. I was on the combined pill and cause it stops you ovulating you can really struggle. Just do as much research as you can, you might get lucky you never know. I am using 4 at the moment as I'm new, Fermometer, premom, fertility friend and flo. Fertility friend is great for BBT charting, their chart is really good. Premom is good for scanning in OPks. I'll eventually go down to one or two, but want to wait a cycle of two before I see which!

PowerOfFlowers · 25/10/2020 17:27

Welcome @CLP86 I'm a newbie too! I second what @AMS19 about the pill. Its taken me a year of being off it for my body to get back to normal and my cycle to regulate. I was on it since I was 19 (am now 35!). Its been interesting learning about my body again and understanding whats normal after years of blocking it all happening.
I've had a weird day today - I've been feeling really nauseous all day, on and off. We've DTD a few times over the last week and I'm day 20 of my cycle today - surely thats waaaay too early to tell isn't it?!

GreenApplesYo · 25/10/2020 17:35

I've also read that 🙂@CLP86 but the article did say to take it with a pinch of salt, and that the last study was done in the 70s. I think the way the pill worked would have been different in the 70s anyway? Plus I think the extra fertility was more to do with increased chance of having twins, as opposed to you pop out a single extra good egg or something hehe.

But on the other hand... It's my first cycle off the pill so let's hope there's something in it!

I'm using the femometer app BTW which is OK but the camera part of the app for photographing OPKs doesn't seem to work too well.
