Hello!

Im in my first month of trying with my partner of 12 years. With wedding plans up in the air due to covid we decided we didn’t want to put our lives on hold any more so here we are!

I came off the pill, had my withdrawal bleed and now in the two week wait until next week when I can test.

I guess I just wanted to come on here and see if anyone else is new to trying too. Or people who can give light in how long it took them to conceive after coming off the pill.

We haven’t told no one we’re trying so I feel like I haven’t got no one to talk too about it all. Trying to stay positive and would love to have a happy ending to 2020.

Sending baby dust to you all xxx

@positivitytree2020 I had always thought spotting was entirely normal before AF and would count first full flow day as CD1 eek. Sounds like a good plan to track this month and check out your LP to know whether it's short or not.

@DrS44 ah still early days, so confusing isn't it! Can always try another test in a couple of days!

@AMS19 I'm east London too!

Mor1301 · 11/11/2020 12:17

Hey,

I’m new here and I’m new to this all myself. I’m planning on coming off the pill at the end of my packet (less than a week) and awaiting for my first period since being on the pill. I am apprehensive if it will be a easy process as I have been on the pill for roughly 15 years; and I’ve rarely had a break for the past year as I started a new pill. Myself and my partner have discussed this for a while; I am excited nervous and feeling scared but I guess that’s all normal. How did you body react when coming off the pill? After being on the pill for so long it’s become my comfort blanket. Hope to hear from you soon!

GreenApplesYo · 11/11/2020 12:18

@Dex1521 ah that's annoying about the hockey club! I didn't realise that housing and wages are better here than NI. Is it a big problem for people in NI? Where I live is close to the Lake District national park and house prices are unaffordable on local wages (I rent just outside the national park area).

@positivitytree2020 haha no not the only one outside the UK @CardioQueen is in Australia 🙂

Dex1521 · 11/11/2020 12:26

@GreenApplesYo it’s a bit of a problem most people end up renting as houses a quite expensive esp where I’m from as it was a tourist area so every house was a holiday home of student property and the others where really expensive to buy. My mum was lucky and got a house to rent in the area but long term let’s where like gold dust 😂. We are buying a house in the new year in Darlington but we could never have afforded to do that back home

GreenApplesYo · 11/11/2020 12:26

Hi @Mor1301 great you've decided to TTC. Exciting times!

Which pill are you on? I was on the mini pill. Came off and literally nothing happened. No withdrawal bleed, no change in mood, or in boobs, no spots, nothing! It was like my body hadn't noticed a change. But then 3 weeks ish later I ovulated - knew because I used OPKs.

Everyone seems to have a different experience though!

Are you planning to do any tracking once your cycles get back to normal?

Mor1301 · 11/11/2020 12:39

Hey, thank you replying!

I am on Marvelon. I started off having the 7 day break and after a couple of years they changed me to take it everyday with no break. It’s very strange as my body knows when I should be on as I can feel it in myself; which makes me think I will have my first bleed after coming off the pill.

I have purchased ovulation sticks and folic acid supplements which I have read through NHS websites and other sources this is a great supplement to take when trying to conceive.

I am planning to track my cycles yes, I have downloaded all various apps ready! I cannot remember for the life of me when my last period was.

I’m interested to see how my body reacts after coming off the pill. 15 years is a long time, however I’m hoping it won’t be as daunting as I am thinking it is!

GreenApplesYo · 11/11/2020 13:01

@Dex1521 I think DP and I will probably end up moving too, ideally before any kids start school. Although the countryside is amazing here, the job prospects aren't great (mainly tourism related). Haha maybe you can persuade us to come to Darlington🙂

@Mor1301 sounds like you've done lots of planning 🙂I found the OPKs worked really well. Would definitely recommend tracking your bbt as well if you aren't planning on that already, I found it really reassuring to see the temp change after ovulation.

Lots of us here were on the pill for years too - I was surprised by how much my libido increased when I came off, lots of other people commented on this as well. So that's a definite plus for TTC.

For my apps I just put in the day I finished my pill as the 'first day' of my period. Other people have been putting in the first day of their withdrawal bleed. It's cheating a bit as a withdrawal bleed isn't really a proper start to a cycle but it does mean the app will work 🙂

Fingers crossed you adjust quickly to being off the pill!

Right I am going out for my lockdown walk haha. Too much sitting about looking at my phone this morning!

Dex1521 · 11/11/2020 13:06

@GreenApplesYo Oo yes you should definitely look to come to Darlington! It’s in between your family too lol. You’ll have a friend here too 😅

AMS19 · 11/11/2020 13:14

Ahh nice @bells20 where abouts?!

Welcome @Mor1301 definitely worth reading through this thread. We have all shared lots of tips and charts which should help 🙂

DrS44 · 11/11/2020 13:20

@Dex1521 just trying to catch up but I'm getting kind of freaked out now! I'm not far from Darlington and very much like you 😂 we need to be friends 💛

Mor1301 · 11/11/2020 13:20

@AMS19 from what I’ve seen so far it’s really helpful and insightful!

Dex1521 · 11/11/2020 13:34

@DrS44 omg really!! I’m actually getting so excited to have some actual friends near me 😂 we deffo need to meet up once we are allowed too again

DrS44 · 11/11/2020 13:45

@Dex1521 amazing! Yes definitely! I'm Irish too by the way ☘️

AMS19 · 11/11/2020 13:48

@Dex1521 @DrS44 this is too sweet ❤

Dex1521 · 11/11/2020 13:48

@DrS44 are we long lost sisters 😅

PowerOfFlowers · 11/11/2020 13:50

Welcome @Mor1301 😀 I was on it for 15 years too!! The biggest change I saw after coming off it was the weight gain, but the positive was I felt like myself again. The pill made me numb, and killed my sex drive by the end. I'm a year pill free now and I feel so much better with myself and I will never go back to any hormonal contraception again. Sounds like you've done your research etc and all I can say is - track your cycle. Buy the book 50 Things You Need To Know About Periods by Claire Baker - its so informative and helpful. Its transformed the way I live with my cycle 😀 (I honest should get commission the way I keep going on about this book 🤣)

Bells20 · 11/11/2020 13:50

@Mor1301 welcome! I didn't have too much bother coming off the pill, a bit crampy, sore boobs but nothing overwhelmingly difficult to manage. I used the day I came off the pill as my cycle start date after @GreenApplesYo suggested it just to make the app work but now having a withdrawal bleed I'm using that as a cycle until I can start tracking them properly. Exciting that you're TTC and wishing you all the best with it!!

@AMS19 I'm near Bow.. you? Had a fleeting thought that I could know you IRL and that you'd know I was TTC which is totally insane because even if I did you're in the same boat so what does it matter 😂

Bells20 · 11/11/2020 13:52

Just to add @Mor1301 coming off the pill has been largely super positive for me.. feel so much more like myself and OH has noticed a positive change too! Would really be difficult to convince me to go back on it now! I was on it for 7 years (4 on micrgynon then 3 on cerazette).

AMS19 · 11/11/2020 13:54

Haha @Bells20 don't worry I dont know anyone living in East London! All my friends are over in West London. Well I have one friend who i know is trying and knows I am. And like you say, even if I did I obviously wouldn't tell anyone. I think I'm gonna use a different username if I start chatting on the pregnancy board. I really would hate for anyone to figure out who I am 😂😂 im in Woolwich, so really not far at all. I used to live between Stratford and Bow, 5mins from the big Tesco

AMS19 · 11/11/2020 13:56

@Mor1301 the biggest benefit for me was my sex drive. It went through the roof! I always thought I just wasn't really into sex and was weird. Now i know it was all the hormones from the pill. During ovulation time all I could think about was sex 😂😂 probably why we got pregnant first cycle trying! We were at it twice a day!

Bells20 · 11/11/2020 14:07

@AMS19 ah yes I know the big Tesco well haha ah so we're pretty close. Hopefully my BFP won't be too far behind yours and I can recruit you as a mum friend 😂

Gotta agree with people talking about an increase in libido post pill- honestly thought I just didn't work properly but it's just changed so dramatically since coming off it!!

Emmgrem · 11/11/2020 14:09

@Mor1301 Welcome! I'm the same as you.. I've been on the pill for 13 years now and was taking it back to back the majority of the time, so don't have a clue when my last period was and also totally get your point about using it as a comfort blanket! I loved the control it gave me and not having to plan things around when I'm going to be on my period. I think that's going to take some getting used to if I don't fall quickly. Will be great to share our journeys and compare notes.

I counted the first day of my withdrawal bleed as CD1. I'm now on CD 5, so waiting for the fertile period next week to start using OPKs.
@GreenApplesYo That's interesting that you put in CD1 as the first day off your pill. I put the first day of withdrawal bleed. I wonder if I should OPKs from now just incase, as that would change the cycle days dramatically 🤔 Will be so much easier after proper AF but I'm too impatient!

DrS44 · 11/11/2020 14:21

@GreenApplesYo @Emmgrem ya that's so interesting I just presumed that it would be the withdrawal bleed day? Does that mean we could have ovulated quite close after the withdrawal? @Emmgrem it probably would be worth doing it now if that's the case?

@AMS19 this is cute isn't it 😂

@Dex1521 hahah we might actually be 😂 yay, Irish friends ☘️😅

DrS44 · 11/11/2020 14:22

@Mor1301
Ya same I'm only just after coming off the pill and the first week or so I felt amazing 😂😂 I'm now feeling really rubbish with strange symptoms 🤷🏼‍♀️ hence the random early pregnancy test 😅

positivitytree2020 · 11/11/2020 14:25

@Mor1301 I came off my pill the start of September and was really worried about it, had been on it for 13 years. I was absolutely fine off it, in fact I hadn’t felt as good in so long. Felt less cranky/anxious, way better sex drive. Like others here mentioned I always thought I was just weird and maybe not into that much, but turns out it was the hormones suppressing me! 😂
So came off it, had withdrawal bleed (counted first day of withdrawal bleed as CD1) and then 29 days later got first proper AF! And then 27 days after that I got second proper AF!
So don’t be worried about coming off it! 😃
