TTC cycle 1 (just come off pill) for #1

Hello!

Im in my first month of trying with my partner of 12 years. With wedding plans up in the air due to covid we decided we didn’t want to put our lives on hold any more so here we are!

I came off the pill, had my withdrawal bleed and now in the two week wait until next week when I can test.

I guess I just wanted to come on here and see if anyone else is new to trying too. Or people who can give light in how long it took them to conceive after coming off the pill.

We haven’t told no one we’re trying so I feel like I haven’t got no one to talk too about it all. Trying to stay positive and would love to have a happy ending to 2020.

@DrS44 I was very lucky and my first proper period was 28 post withdrawal bleed. I'm now 21 days into this cycle and 8 day post ovulation. Even if I'm not pregnant just praying for a decent cycle length, not too long, not too short 🤞

@jessi60 I think your right except I am not sure the CB is more accurate, the benefit is it tests for LH and progesterone...so give you more of a warning than just OPKs do. But I honestly think the cheapies from amazon are totally fine, that is what I used. @DrS44 if you look up at previous posts you'll see i post my OPKs - these were £5 for 30 from amazon

I've never done opk's I should look into them really. I had period type cramps last Friday and saturday so expected af but still not arrived. Think I'm scared to test incase it's too early. I think I might test on friday that would be cycle day 33 if I count the first day of withdrawal bleed as like a period. It's hard not knowing when to test.

Yeah I just think the smiley face is probably easier to read aswell 😂 they cost a fortune though. The price puts me off. Xx

@sophia0 it is total normal for your first period to be late for the first 6 cycles off the pill. But absolutely no harm in testing just in case! Use a FRER (First Response Early Response), they are by far the most reliable! Amazon have them on offer

Hi to all the newcomers 🙂good luck for your TTC journey.

I'd definitely recommend temping as well as the OPKs for anyone who is considering that. Might have been mentioned already, but the OPKs don't confirm ovulation, they just predict that it might happen. I found it reassuring after my positive OPK to see my temps rise, especially as I had 2 OPK peaks close together. Like AMS19, I planned to use OPKs for a few months and then stop when my cycle settled down. I came off the pill in early October.

I got a big box of cheap OPKs from amazon, they worked fine for me.

@AMS19 I tested at 8dpo (the shame) using an ic as I didn't think anything would show and it was a way to scratch the poas urge. But then there was a super faint shadow so I tested with FMU at 9dpo using a CB early (hadn't got my hands on a FRER at that point) and it was a faint BFP.

I only have a CB digital left now so going to wait until Friday to use that... Just to double check before emailing the midwife haha. I am feeling OK thanks. Sleepy and sore boobs but that's about it. Glad I'm not having cramps, I think that would freak me out haha.

@GreenApplesYo I've felt nauseous all day, but I think that is because I had forgotten to take my pregnacare last night so took it when I woke up without food 🤢 there is no way I'm gonna last until next week. I think I might take an early one but just have in my head it means nothing until next week then test again. I knew I would cave 😂😂

@AMS19 tbh I don't think there is really a 'right' way to do it, depends on the person? Yes, there is a risk you get a BFP that turns into a CP. But the 2ww is also horrible!

@GreenApplesYo I think it gets to the point where you convince yourself you are pregnant so even if you get a period you will probably end up assuming it is a CP potentially anyway! Also we are meeting friends tomorrow for dinner. So am tempted to see and have a drink or two if it is stark negative

@AMS19 good luck if you do decide to test. Hopefully it's a BFP, but still super early so you're not out if it isn't. Might give you some 'breathing space' either way.

Oh one thing to bear in mind is whether, if it's a very faint positive, you would want to test again to make sure before telling your husband. Which would mean having to keep quiet for 12-24hrs. Whereas if you test later you'd have a more reliable result to share right away. It was really odd for me sitting watching a film with DP, I couldn't stop thinking about the faint faint BFP, but didn't want to tell him incase it was a fluke.

@GreenApplesYo yeah I wouldnt be able to keep it a secret. I'll see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow and what my temperature is doing. So far it has stayed high. I probably won't test, the idea makes me feel a bit sick 😂😂 im just having a wobble moment!

@jessi60 you sound like you’re going through the same things as me 😅 how strange! You should do an early test? I have ordered some too 🤣 we are as bad as each other thinking it will happen this quickly! Honestly I need some patience! I’m only a couple of weeks off it 🤣🤣 I need to calm down! Xx

I did one of the early tests today but it was negative. But to be honest I have no idea what day in my cycle I am or if I even ovulated 😂😂 based on the withdrawal bleed it’s 10dpo but that’s not a period so 🤷🏻‍♀️ Think all I can do is wait for it to come and do daily ovulation tests! Xx @DrS44

@jessi60 yeah I’m the exact same as you! Probably good idea to get lots of cheap OPKs so we know when we are ovulating at least as I’ve no idea if I’ve ovulated yet 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ll probably end up doing the same, it’s just the waiting that’s frustrating! Keep us posted x

AF = period
BBT = basal body temperature
OPK = ovulation predictor kit
FRER = first response early result. Popular pregnancy test
FMU = first morning urine. Best for pregnancy tests
BFP = big fat positive (positive pregnancy test)
BFN = big fat negative
POAS = pee on a stick
IC = cheap pregnancy test strip

Yeah we literally are the same aren’t we. Yeah I’m sure I will post on here when there’s going on with me. But for now just daily testing and waiting for af Xx

CD - days since first day of period
DPO - days since ovulation
DTD - do the deed (have sex)
FF - Fertility Friend (very popular app with BBT charting)

Oh and EWCM - Egg White Cervix Mucus - I'll let you Google that one 😂😂

@DrS44 some of the bloody acronyms are just abit silly to be honest 😂😂 I find it abit easier to right the word sex than dtd it’s the same amount of letters lol. 🤔Xx
