Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

Slightly in shock here. 28 days since AF so expecting it any day (usual cramping would suggest that too).

Went to the loo and thought why not just try a pregnancy test on the off chance- I have enough of them to spare and got this! Must be at least my 3rd wee of the day!

DH away for the next few hours before I can tell him and now I'm a little bit distracted for all the work I was going to do today!

Very early days and only other time I saw 2 lines I had a chemical pregnancy and AF came the following week... but where there is a line there's hope!

Geriatric1234 · 23/05/2021 00:16

Ahhhhhhh @Littlemiss40andfabulous CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Xx

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 23/05/2021 07:17

Thanks everyone. Did a morning test and it's really strong- strongest line I've ever had.

DH very sensibly not getting too excited yet as we only got to 5 weeks last time and I'm trying not too too, but I am a little bit!

@Littlemiss40andfabulous that’s a great line! I only just got a line that strong this morning at 19dpo on the Femometer tests. That’s really great, I’m keeping everything crossed so hard for you. Can I ask what brand test that is? I’m running out and I might buy some more, stupid really I know because doesn’t tell you much as this stage but I like my morning poas 😂

sabtom · 23/05/2021 08:17

Congratulations @Littlemiss40andfabulous Thanks great to see so many BFPs popping up on this thread!
Did you do anything different this cycle? xx

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 23/05/2021 08:39

@Honey2 these are what I use - bought on Amazon.

@sabtom this month we ditched the Clear Blue digital ovulation predictor and it's smiley faces and tried to just dtd every other day. We managed it for the first week but then got tired so I wasn't convinced anything would happen this month.

In fact I've been really down this month- and spent a fortune of multivitamins and Coenzyme10 supplements, but as I only started them 4 days ago, they are not likely to have influenced this hcg result.

Honey2 · 23/05/2021 11:07

@Littlemiss40andfabulous thanks for that... looks like your strategy worked! Maybe you were ovulating earlier than you thought and so you caught ovulation better this month??

birdbybird · 23/05/2021 12:43

Congratulations @Littlemiss40andfabulous.

Lastyearttc · 24/05/2021 18:55

Hi all,
Just wondering if I can join you 40+ ttcers!?
I am blessed with a LG but desperately want to give her a sibling 🙏
To give you all some positive news... I fell pregnant at 40 and 41, so now hoping at 42 I can catch again 🙏
I'm on cd 1 of cycle #11 this time round. Just spent a small fortune on supplements, use opks and temp. Also going through fertility tests atm, just need to get my head around the blood results but fertility nurse said everything looks ok! Apart from low AMH which is understandable.

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 25/05/2021 05:52

Hi @Lastyearttc welcome to the group!

Thanks for sharing - that's really encouraging to hear! All the best for a sibling for your LG. How old is your LG?

I've just bought lots of conception supplements too, although recently found out I'm pregnant (4 weeks and 3 days) so am hoping I won't need them if it sticks.

XxX

Mattieandmummy · 25/05/2021 07:38

Just to say I was also told by our consultant that a HyCoSy gives an increase in fertility for the following two to three months so worth considering. I was meant to have one this month and then had a stupid 10 day long period and that plus the fact our clinic only does them on certain days meant I had an LH surge before I could have it done. Next month, fingers crossed.

I'm also now 40 😔 and TTC no. 2.

Mattieandmummy · 25/05/2021 07:46

Oops put that on the wrong thread, that will teach me to not wrestle a toddler, put away the Sainsbury's order and Mumsnet at the same time!

Lastyearttc · 25/05/2021 09:01

Well @Mattieandmummy I'm glad you did as I have a hycosy question! I also had to postpone mine last month as they only do them on Mondays and I was in my fw (didn't catch obvs). So because of bank holidays it's 21st June. However I could pay £100 excess and have one privately next Tuesday 1st June... just weighing up whether it's worth spending for this cycle or waiting for next??? I'm 43 in August.
What would you guys do!?

Lastyearttc · 25/05/2021 09:03

@Littlemiss40andfabulous thank you for the welcome and congratulations on your Bfp! What supplements were you on to help you catch?
My LG is 5 Smile

kalidasa · 25/05/2021 09:10

Hello all can I join? I turned 41 in April. We've got two DSs, 6 and 8. I have always longed for a third but DH was totally against it until he finally agreed the end of last year. So worried we have left it too late though! I know it's not the end of the world as we have these two lovely boys but I was so thrilled when DH agreed and now for it not to happen is hard. I got pg very easily in my 30s, first go each time (though did have two false starts / v. early losses), but we've been trying for 6 months now with no luck. I'm pretty sure there have been 2-3 false starts/failed conceptions in that time too (I get sick very early and knew I was pregnant before the test in all my previous pgs). Struggling this month as we have to take 6 weeks off trying -- we are moving to France at the end of July and with both boys I had very severe hyperemesis and was mostly in hospital between weeks 6 and 12ish so we have to avoid any chance of being in that phase for the move. We can start trying again end of June/start of July but I'm ovulating about now and finding it really painful not to be at least giving it a go! I have charted my cycles for years and years (used to use natural family planning before the boys) so know my signs really well and I am definitely still ovulating every month and have 2-5 days of EWCF which I think is fairly good at this age. I assume the issue is egg quality though. I have quite long cycles too with a long LP which reduces the opportunities a bit! Anyway, have been lurking on this thread and it's encouraging to see some BFPs.

Geriatric1234 · 25/05/2021 10:10

Hi @Lastyearttc! We’re EXACTLY the same age - I’m 43 in august too! Welcome and I second the HyCosy Q @Mattieandmummy and anyone else who knows about them! Xx

Welcome @kalidasa! Have you had any tests done yet to check your ‘status’? Yes - it’s really allll about egg quality now so kinda just a lucky dip! 🤣 Have you read it starts with the egg? Great for supplements and as you aren’t trying for a few weeks you can start supplementing those maturing eggs to give them a good boost and not feel the time is wasted. Xx

kalidasa · 25/05/2021 11:35

Thanks @Geriatric1234 I did have a look at 'It Starts with the Egg' a couple of months ago. Found it a bit overwhelming! Trying to strike a balance between being proactive and trying not to obsess constantly. I have started taking CoQ10 though a month or so ago, as well as vitamins and folic acid of course. I haven't done any tests, no. We wouldn't go down IVF route or anything like that, if it doesn't happen then it doesn't, we are lucky to have two lovely boys. I am definitely ovulating every month though, and with a nice big clear temp shift and a long LP with no spotting, so I think my progesterone etc is probably OK.

Mattieandmummy · 25/05/2021 12:21

Oh gosh @Geriatric1234 and @Lastyearttc I'm no expert on the HyCoSy procedure - that's the limit of my knowledge!

For £100 I would probably do it but that's partly because I would drive myself mad worrying and I figure if £100 reduces that then it's well spent. Wish I wasn't such a worrier

Geriatric1234 · 25/05/2021 14:07

@kalidasa Oh I’m totally with you - I’m not considering ivf either (no kids but 2 step) as I think the odds are far too low at our age (for me). I got a bit of a fertility MOT just to check this was feasible and to manage expectations. So I had AMH, thyroid, vitamin D blood tests done. AMH to check I still have any eggs (was fine) and vit D/thyroid just in case as they’re so common yet easy to treat but also cause MC. Also had transvaginal scan to check my fibroids (turns out I had none!) and to do a follicle count, which was also decent. I had an MC in December so I wanted to make sure it was just nature ditching a dodgy egg, not my body causing it. Getting progesterone checked in a week juuuust in case. It feels reassuring to know everything is in working order! 🤣 Now it’s all down to egg roulette and the universe! X

birdbybird · 25/05/2021 16:32

Hi @Geriatric1234 do you mind if I ask what your thyroid level was or what they said was acceptable? I had a chemical in cycle 1 followed by a MC in cycle 2. Am now in month 5.
My tsh was a bit a above 3.

Geriatric1234 · 25/05/2021 19:21

Hiya @birdbybird, I’m sorry about the MCs :-( My MC was in cycle 1 after which I opted for tests. My tsh was 1.5 and I understand the range is 0.5-5 and varies a bit through your cycle. I was told it was exactly in the middle for the CD I took it on. X
