Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

@Honey2 what's the test picture app you are using I've never seen that before? Looks useful for comparing tests

@October1979 I’m 12 DPO today. Hoping that since it’s gone from pink to brown then as you say it’s not fresh bleeding. 🤞🤞

Did you manage to DTD on your fertile days?? Fingers crossed for us both for January babies!

Honey2 · 15/05/2021 18:35

@October1979 sorry missed your other question . It’s the Femometer app. I only use it for tracking opk results and now hcg - you can take a photo and it intelligently reads the opk result as low high or peak. For the hcg test though it is still reading ‘negative’ so not so good for that - but you can manually correct to positive. I use it alongside FF for tracking my temps.

Honey2 · 15/05/2021 18:38

@October1979 here’s my opk tests from this month so you can see how it looks...

Thank you for sharing this @Honey2
I have used only CB for the first cycle, so not sure how these opks work. So when you got peak on CD13- does it mean you ovulated in the morning or between morning and evening? I got the opks to try too this month, but still don’t fully understand how to know when they show ovulation. Thank you.

October1979 · 15/05/2021 20:03

Yes@Honey2 managed to dtd during my fertile days fingers crossed xx

@GingerFox2021 as I understand it the only way to completely confirm ovulation is to chart your temp at the same time each morning. Most women ovulate 12-36 hrs after a peak opk. Once you’ve ovulated Your temp will rise (by around 0.3 degrees c) - so my temp readings were hovering around 36.2/36.3 before ovulation and then the morning after ovulation rose to 36.5 and continued to climb to 36.7 over the next couple of days. Having charted for a few months I know I normally ovulate either on the day or my peak opk or the day after. I think if you don’t temp best think to do is DTD in the days leading up to your peak (where the line on the test is dark but not as dark as the test line) and then do it o. Your peak day and the day (or two!) after.

Hope that helps!

GingerFox2021 · 15/05/2021 22:50

Thank you @Honey2, so would that mean that using these opks for the first time will be no help? As I understand you need to know the pattern .. cause looking at your CD 12 I would have thought that your peak would be next morning. It was still light pink line.
I am not temping as I don’t have really a sleeping pattern and wake up at different times at night and mornings. I fall asleep again but drink water, need toilet etc so probably this wouldn’t work.

Honey2 · 16/05/2021 07:24

@GingerFox2021 not sure I understand you exactly - I started taking 2 tests a day from cd12 both were ‘high’ but not peak and then the next morning on CD13 it was my peak. So in theory I ovulated anytime from CD13 onwards. You can use them as a guide without temping - just make sure there is lots of BD around the highest and peak reading - but keep going for a day or so after your peak!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice to buy 'it starts with an egg' - I have a copy now and am already half way through.

Just wondering where you get your ubiquinol from, and if you wouldn't mind sharing links? I looked it up on Pharma Nord's website and it's quite expensive!

Thanks x

Honey2 · 16/05/2021 09:38

@Littlemiss40andfabulous good old Amazon! Ubiquinol 200 Milligram EAF CoQ10 (Enhanced Absorption Formula Coenzyme Q10 as Kaneka Ubiquinol) 30 Softgels www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LFVDK1E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_5DF2WJZ5EYY4KZW04EYB?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

birdbybird · 16/05/2021 12:49

@Littlemiss40andfabulous you can also get it from Holland and Barrett. Its expensive and they keep it behind the counter.

Honey2 · 19/05/2021 12:40

How is everyone doing?
@October1979 how many DPO are you now?
@Littlemiss40andfabulous did you get your ubiquinol?

Im doing ‘ok’ worry myself sick, which is pointless but can’t help thinking it’s likely to go same way as back in Feb/ March. I’ve had reasonable progress on FRER tests but the cheapie Femometer tests are still so faint and no progression it’s doing my head it Confused

Pics attached!

Hi @Honey2 yes I do and I started them today. We also now have milk in glass bottles being delivered and I've got rid of all my plastic storage containers as the book suggested. DH not thrilled at having to take multivitamins too!

Marvellouslymadmum · 19/05/2021 14:31

@Honey2 I think your lines look great on the frer! Lovely progression, the others have progression it's just light lines it may just be the way those tests are

Honey2 · 19/05/2021 15:29

@Marvellouslymadmum thanks! I couldn’t resist and I did a clear blue weeks test and it came up 2-3 weeks which has put my mind at rest a bit!

@Honey2 yes!! Congratulations lovely, love seeing the bfp on this page, definitely gives me a little hope

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 19/05/2021 17:23

Aw congratulations @Honey2 - that's wonderful to read 😊

soontobeamama · 19/05/2021 19:00

Lovely to see @Honey2 - hope you're feeling ok? xx

October1979 · 19/05/2021 19:37

Hi @Honey2 your progression lines look great and it's also so good you have enough HCG for the digital to register 2-3 weeks! This is really positive. Great news. I'm 4 dpo I think or 5. Only time will tell xx

@Honey2 so happy for you! Are feeling any pregnancy symptoms yet?

@Littlemiss40andfabulous How much Ubiquinol are you taking? I've been taking 400g a day but wondering if that's too much? Confused

Well it looks like I'm out again this month, CD 29 for me (TMI sorry) started with light brown spotting yesterday a littler and again just later this afternoon. I haven't had the brown spotting before AF for a few months now so it's a bit unusual this month and I'm usually on 26/27 cycle so 29 days is the longest I've had. If it wasn't for the temp drop this morning I would've taken a test thinking it could be implantation but I expect AF so up tonight or tomorrow morning Sad
So now we're gunna make an appointment and get the ball rolling for IVF, I don't see the point in holding off any longer, my eggs are only getting older Sad

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 20/05/2021 18:19

@sabtom yes I'm taking 400mg (200mg twice a day) as the book recommends.

Got to be patient and wait several months now to see if it will have any affect. How long have you been taking it for?

I think AF will arrive tonight or tomorrow for me too...

sabtom · 20/05/2021 18:28

@Littlemiss40andfabulous I've been taking Ubiquinol for about a year although I've only been taking 400mg for a couple of months

wanderlove · 20/05/2021 21:06

@sabtom
I'm also due AF in the next few days. I've got spots and ratty as hell so expecting it soon.
I've feeling a bit despondent...probably a bit of pmt. I hate the vague hope that it isn't going to come.

sabtom · 21/05/2021 12:01

@wanderlove hopefully it's pregnancy symptoms instead Thanks

Well as predicted AF arrived early this morning a day later than expected 😔 the cramps this month though are intense! Last time I had cramps this bad was my teenage years and after my miscarriage last year. Wondering if it's a side effect of the acupuncture I'm having? 🤔

Anyway, appointment made this morning for my initial scan to start IVF.
