Sounds like my OH- he’s way more relaxed about the whole situation. I keep asking myself over and over again that question- why has it not happened yet?! Argh. Every month that passes just feels like a wasted opportunity.

Very impressed that you’ve cut out alcohol all year! I haven’t managed that but only really drink maybe a glass or two when AF shows up to make myself feel better. I’ve completely switched to decaf too (only ever really drank tea).

Well I’ve spent a lifetime being flat-chested 😞😂.

If you don’t mind me asking, with going to the doctor, did you lie and say you’d been trying longer? Or are they happy to do those tests if you’ve been trying less than a year? Always thought you were turned away if it hadn’t been a year yet. Glad everything came back as normal for you 😊.

I was on the pill but haven’t been for 5 or so years. We used a combination of condoms/ pull out technique and that also worries me that we’ve never had a scare. Not in the whole 5 years.

AF started this morning for me too 😞feel so down as I kept thinking how lovely it would be to get a BFP before Christmas. Hey ho. Not to be. How long does your AF usually last? Mine are quite short so hope to be finished by Wednesday/Thursday xx

MiniBaker · 08/12/2020 08:14

Hey @sunshineandshowers3

Well I did sort of lie - I said that we had been actively having unprotected sex for a year as I knew I had been off the pill for a year and I got to a real low point where I just needed some answers.

I know how you feel, I was hoping for BFP too for Christmas and the days AF arrives are rubbish aren’t they because you just feel so useless but then I do try to think well this is day one of a new cycle and new opportunity.

Mine are usually about 4 days but this time has been 6 days total with the last 2 days really light just sort of spotting.

I actually went to a acupuncturist yesterday as thought I might try that this month too - he looked at my tongue and said he thought I had a blood deficiency - which basically goes hand in hand with the short / light periods. What it may mean is that my blood is not building up a thick enough lining for implantation to occur. So i’m having 3 sessions of acupuncture to try to and increase the blood flow to my uterus and ovaries. Maybe this is the same for you if you have shorter / lighter periods? Have you looked in to acupuncture?

He looked at my tongue and said it was quite a light pink colour rather than a bright red. Apparently that shows the blood deficiency.

I found it really nice him checking me over and weirdly reassuring that he gave me something that was wrong with me!

xx

sunshineandshowers3 · 08/12/2020 16:22

I don’t blame you. With the uncertainty of Covid and any treatment we might need potentially taking longer as we have to wait I really think we should ‘strike while the iron is hot’ so to speak.

I have a GP appointment next Monday. Did the tests happen quite quickly after your initial consultation with the doctor?

I felt very down this month, there were a lot of tears when AF showed. I should know by now as I’d had all the tell tale signs that it was coming but I was still clinging onto hope.

Worked out I could potentially get a BFP this month but it would be on New Year’s Eve or around that time.

Mine are about 4 days too.

I haven’t actually looked into it but I’ll do some googling now you’ve mentioned it. Thank you 😊. My periods have always been on the shorter side.

I know what you mean, anytime I hear a cause of what could potentially be wrong it gives hope that if that is rectified, we might get our BFP’s!

If you don’t mind me asking, what time of the day do you mainly have sex? So many studies say the morning is the best time so trying to do more of that this month. Also going to try DTD every day as soon as AF has stopped. We normally go crazy leading up to and just after ovulation and then burn out for the rest of the month!

MiniBaker · 08/12/2020 17:10

@sunshineandshowers3

Well I know I probably shouldn’t have lied but I just felt I needed to! I had a telephone call with the doctor - she asked a few questions, how often do you have sex? How many days is your usual cycle? Etc. Then she agreed to send me for a blood test. The blood test has to be done on 21 of your cycle - To check your hormone levels. So I spoke to her on day 1 of AF so had to obviously wait to a few weeks to actually get the blood test. She just gave me a form to take to the walk-in centre to get it done as day 21 on a Saturday for me. The results were back with the doctor within a few days.

Once she told me everything was normal, I asked what was next and she said to have my OH sperm tested.

With my OH sperm sample, he called up GP - got the pot and form etc. Then he had to call up to make an appointment at the hospital to drop it off like a week later. The sample has to be done at home but delivered to the hospital within an hour of ejaculation (sorry if TMI).

We usually have sex before bed but sometimes in the morning or in the afternoon. It really depends because my OH works shifts so sometimes we’re not both in bed at the same time.

I know what you mean about burnout 😂 we usually do it everyday leading up to ovulation and then burn out for a couple days. But generally have sex every 2/3 days anyway. That’s what makes me think there is something wrong with me because I’m sure most of the time our timing has been right!

I’m so with you with the tears. I had loads too this time. Your baby will be so loved and lucky - I can’t wait to hear you get your BFP! Sending positive vibes to you. You’ll feel better once you get the tests done too.

xx

sunshineandshowers3 · 08/12/2020 17:27

No judgement here- I’m guessing a lot of people do. Twelve months is a heck of a lot of time. When you say day 21 what do you class as your first day? When you start to bleed (even if it’s only a little bit/halfway through the day) or the first full day? 🤔 That’s good that the results were back so quickly.

Gosh I didn’t realise the sperm sample was so time sensitive 😳. Can men do that any time of the month?

Morning sex is such an effort but I’m going to try harder this month 😂just never feel very sexy in the mornings!

You keep it up way more than we do- after ovulation we often go a week or so without it. I always (stupidly) worry that sex might affect implantation which I know is 1) pretty ridiculous and 2) highly highly unlikely.

Thank you @MiniBaker what a lovely thing to say ❤️. Likewise- our babies are so wanted and you will make a fantastic Mummy! Hopefully as we’re so in sync with everything else we’ll both get our BFP’s this month!

Xxx

MiniBaker · 08/12/2020 18:55

I usually count the first full day as day 1 as I usually spot for 1-2 days before - those reviews the worst because by that point i’ve convinced myself that I am pregnant and it’s implantation bleeding - looking at maternity wear - and then bang AF full steam ahead comes!

Yeah I didn’t realise either - I actually felt really awkward while my OH went to ahem produce the sample alone in our bathroom in rather a rushed manor so we could set off to drop it off at the hospital on time!

They can do it any time of the month but where we are you have to pre-book to drop it off that’s all.

Morning sex means you’re productive before you even get out of bed! How is your OH with it? Mine can sometimes be a bit like ‘not right now’ if he’s got to start work soonish.

That’s part of the reason I keep it up every few days after ovulation so he doesn’t think I'm just using him for his sperm at ovulation time 😂!

Yes we’re so in sync, it would be meant to be if we got BFPs at the same time! 🥰 Xxx

MiniBaker · 08/12/2020 18:55

@sunshineandshowers3

sunshineandshowers3 · 09/12/2020 07:54

Oh god the amount of times I’ve gone down the ‘it’s definitely implantation bleeding’ rabbit hole. Most people I know never even had implantation bleeding and yet I’m always convinced it’s that 🙈.

Haha dirty mags to the rescue 😂😳.

My OH is more up for it than me- my thinking is I like to lie down afterwards and if we do it in the morning I can’t really as I’ll need to get up (work full time Monday to Friday). My OH works from home so his timings aren’t so set in stone as he has a very relaxed boss.

Yeah I worry he thinks I’m using him, but equally I think he’s glad of the rest sometimes!

It really would 👍🏻🥰. Do you do much exercise in general/in the TWW? Xx

MiniBaker · 11/12/2020 09:02

@sunshineandshowers3 how is your morning routine going? We’ve just started SMEP...

Yeah I always like to lie down afterwards - although I’m not sure it’s so necessary but who knows 🙃 I like to do it just in case.

I have a dog so I walk him everyday for about an hour all the time but other than that I’m not the best at doing exercise. Sometimes I do a bit of yoga at home. How about you?

xx

ReiRiko · 13/12/2020 14:26

OPK blazing positive for the first time ever!!! I'm so happy 😃

We'll see how this turns out this month. Fingers crossed 🤞✨✨✨

Kc91 · 13/12/2020 16:24

Hi guys sorry to jump on! I’m in the tww, AF due tomorrow ive had 3 days of light pink bleeding - only there when I wipe started about 5 days before AF due and now cleared up completely for 2 days. Could this have been implantation. Noticed my chest is very veiny and had pretty much no symptoms other than that other than not being moody pre AF as I usually am. Barely any cramps just a few niggles? Anyone had anything like this before and got a BFP? Did a test yesterday and BFN 😞 but probs too early

Thanks in advance

sunshineandshowers3 · 23/12/2020 08:11

@MiniBaker Happy Christmas Eve eve ❤️ how have you been getting on? I’m currently in the dreaded tww (8dpo) feel zero symptoms apart from very tired.

I go to the gym about 4 times a week but always worry about doing that in the tww. I prayed, longed and hoped for a bfp before Christmas but I just can’t see it happening. I keep thinking, surely I’d know if I was pregnant? Surely? 😫

Hope you’re well anyway! Xx

MiniBaker · 23/12/2020 09:04

Hi @sunshineandshowers3 Thank you. Merry Christmas to you!

We completed SMEP to the letter this month! I actually ovulated really late for me which was weird so I’m only 4DPO joining you in he TWW atm.

I genuinely think you wouldn’t know. Some other threads I follow most people have said they hardly get any symptoms and one of my friends said the only early symptom she got was like at 6 weeks and that was sore nipples. I’m going to try not to symptom spot and just relax as much as I can this time. As that’s the only thing people ever seem to tell me to do 😂

It will happen for us! We’ve already had many months of trying so it must be our turn soon. How did your appointment with the doctor go? xx

MiniBaker · 23/12/2020 09:07

Hi @kc91 how did you get on? I often spot for a few days before a period so I usually see it as a sign of AF coming. I haven’t had my BFP yet so I’m probably not the best person to answer though. Fingers crossed for you Xx

sunshineandshowers3 · 23/12/2020 09:43

Well done both of you for sticking to the SMEP! Money has been a bit tight this month (for obvious reasons) and I was all out of ovulation tests so decided not to buy anymore. First month since TTC that I haven’t used any. We’ve pretty much had sexy every other day so far and lots of doggie style (which I’ve been reading positive stuff about in terms of conceiving).

MiniBaker · 23/12/2020 14:26

@sunshineandshowers3

Yes I’m hoping SMEP has done the trick as we’ve never done that before! You should be covered with every other day anyway. Right, doggy style is on the list for next cycle if this hasn’t worked 😂🐶

I don’t believe it, I think that’s something people say in hindsight and in all honesty you don’t really know until you miss a period but of course everyone is different. I’ve had pregnancy symptoms nearly every TWW so far anyway 😂

Yes I would like to have an Autumn baby too - maybe that is why we have both been waiting so long! We’re just heading in to the right time now 😊

My period isn’t due til 2nd January now! Was hoping to find out before NYE so I could have a glass of bubbly if not, as i’ve not drank all year I feel like I could really do with a glass but I’m going to hold out.
Fingers crossed you’ll be having a sober one with a BFP! 😊 sending all the positivity in the world to you xx

sunshineandshowers3 · 23/12/2020 14:56

Fingers crossed it has done the trick for you 😊. I think we’ll be doing it next month if this one isn’t successful. Yes apparently doggy allows for deeper penetration 😳.

That’s true tbf, I’ve had ‘symptoms’ every month too! A few posts have said that the month they didn’t have any was the one that worked.

Here’s hoping! 😁

It really would...babies here by next Christmas is such a wonderful thought! ❤️ I really really hope this is the case for us both.

You have done amazingly on the no drinking front! You really have. Never know could get a BFP before AF due!

Have a lovely Christmas and keep us posted on here (I certainly will!) 🎄❤️Xxx

sunshineandshowers3 · 29/12/2020 21:05

@MiniBaker AF showed up today (a day early). Feel so very low about it all. Boobs have been SO sore this month and so veiny, but clearly it was nothing 😔.

Hope you have more positive news this month ❤️Xxx

MiniBaker · 30/12/2020 09:33

@sunshineandshowers3

Sorry to hear AF showed up. At least you can really enjoy New Year and say goodbye to 2020 the year of disappointments and hello 2021 a fresh start and the year of success!

I can completely empathise with how you feel. I was talking to a friend of my husbands yesterday and she was saying that all of her friends took at least a year to a year and a half of trying before having success. It will happen for you! It just takes longer than we think and luckily we have both started early and are not in a major rush against the clock.

I notice that my boobs are always pretty sore and full this side of ovulation so I just ignore that now, not had any other unusual pains. My AF is due 2nd January but usually comes a day or two earlier than the app suggests so i’ll keep you posted.

sunshineandshowers3 · 30/12/2020 14:18

@MiniBaker Thank you so much- your message really has lifted me ❤️.

Spoken to the doctor and DP is being sent for a SA and we are both being sent for blood tests. Already feel a little more positive and upbeat and glad that I’m being proactive and taking control.

Really? That is such encouraging news! Did they all conceive naturally after a year/year and a half? Thank you for that positivity! 😊

I know we’ve never met but I’m really rooting for you 🥰.

This month I’m not going to do any OPK’s and just DTD every other day as soon as AF finishes (hopefully by Saturday/Sunday) xx

MiniBaker · 30/12/2020 17:50

@sunshineandshowers3
Aww good to hear it! Great to hear you’ve called the Doctor, it will help you rule things out or get some answers so either way it’s a good thing! Did they tell you to go on day 21 of your cycle? Or can you go straight away?

I found it encouraging too, yes they all conceived naturally after roughly that time.

We undersell the impact of stress even low level has on our bodies - I’m sure of it! Sounds like a great idea to drop doing anything that’s stressful and OPKs can be very frustrating and consuming.

We’ve also had less distractions than normal this year and it’s meant we’ve probably focused and obsessed over getting pregnant more than we may have done in normal times.

I don’t know about you, but deep down I knew it would take me a while to get pregnant before me and my OH even started trying - it was like it was destined to be this way - which is why I came off the pill 5 months before we were due to get married. I wanted to be pregnant as soon as we got married for some reason. I think I felt that everyone would be asking that as the next thing and I wanted to be ahead of the questions. So I could say “well actually I’m already pregnant”. No idea why 🤷‍♀️.

But I’m going to really try to go in to 2021, not rushing, not stressing and trying to embrace positivity and activities that I find relaxing because when we’ve got little babies I’m sure we’ll be begging for a bit of relaxation time! I’m just going to try to make the most of now.

Thank you Sunshine ☀️ 😊 I’m rooting for you too 🤞 💕 I’m so grateful to share my journey with you. 2021 is our year!

stepmumSW5 · 17/01/2021 23:17

@Stabal hello!! How are you? I hadn't realised I had been logged out of mumsnet since December 😱 I hope lockdown is not being too hard on you. 😘

Stabal · 17/01/2021 23:25

Hey @stepmumSW5. Just cracking on with things! Still no baby on board yet. How are you doing? How far along are you now?

stepmumSW5 · 17/01/2021 23:33

@Stabal just shy of 24 weeks. Homeschooling DSC again, dealing with biomom craziness but still survivable. Also found out recently that due to Brexit I will have to take a driving test in the UK for a uk licence... Whilst pregnant. 😰 not what I was expecting for this stage. But hopefully I'm going to manage... Are you WFH?
