TTC plus size?

Hi lovelies..
just scrolling through Mumsnet as usual 😂🙈 and one thing has come to mind...
Is anybody else classed as 'plus size' and TTC currently?

I'm a size 20-22 in some clothes, and am trying to make a conscious effort to eat healthier etc to make TTC and falling pregnant a little easier for me.
I was just wondering if anybody else is in / has been in the same boat? If so, how long it took to fall pregnant etc etc.

I'm more worried about not looking 'pregnant' or having a nice little bump when the time finally comes 😂🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ these things play on my mind!

Xx

Me! I have one daughter who took 5 months to conceive and I'm currently pregnant now which was on the first try. However with this pregnancy I was making more of a conscious effort and trying to loose weight before getting pregnant but life had other plans, super excited though! You'll not doubt be consultant led which means you see your midwife and see a consult for extra appointments and growth scans from 32 onwards (in my area anyway). Also they just keep on eye on things for if there is a reason to be induced etc. My bump was a bit of a beer belly until around 16/17 weeks and then I started to slowly look more pregnant and by 20 weeks there was no denying it! Your bump will look great. You just have to be firm with midwives and consultants about what you want for you as they can be a bit firm because of protocol of a higher bmi. Good luck!x

Me too! I've been TTC since Sept last year and have lost nearly stone to take me down to a size 20-22 as think my weight is probably one of the reasons I haven't been successful yet. Very reassuring to hear from other plus sizers who have successfully got pregnant :-)

ttc97 · 24/08/2020 21:16

@SamanthaF1233
Amazing, so lovely to hear from somebody in the same circumstance as me!
Huge congratulations on your pregnancy 💓

You've really put me at ease, thank you! Xx

My pleasure! I didnt mention but currently I'm at a size 18-20 so can understand all your worries. I also believe in not putting stress of yourself because you have the extra bit of stress with being a bigger woman. As soon as my partner and I stopped worrying with our first we found out the next month we were expecting. Just remember to look after yourself 110% when you do get your positive as risks are slightly increased but still very low! I had a textbook pregnancy the whole way through despite being told I wouldn't. You got this and good luck!❤

ttc97 · 24/08/2020 21:32

@BeansOnToastWithCheese how amazing, well done to you! I'm really trying my best to keep in the straight and narrow food wise, I'm so easily lead astray but got to think of the bigger picture now and the little baby we'll hopefully have some time soon 🥰 I agree, it's so nice to hear from others in a similar situation!! Hello! I think I had a positive test this morning, but I'm trying to keep a lid on my excitement as it's incredibly early days and I might have been the one in a million to get a false positive. Or a chemical pregnancy etc...

But it's very difficult to work while also thinking 'agh, when can I test again to be sure?!'

Bells3032 · 26/08/2020 11:38

I am looking to TTC in October. Have a BMI currently at 36, am aiming for 34 by then as husband has fertility issues and likely we will need IVF and the nearby clinic has a BMI limit.

However, my mother was a size 24 when she had myself and my sister and got pregnant first time both times so fingers crossed

ttc97 · 26/08/2020 11:58

@BeansOnToastWithCheese
Oh my goodness how exciting! I really have my fingers crossed for you that this is your BFP! 🥰

OP posts:
BeansOnToastWithCheese · 26/08/2020 12:43

I've done another test which was negative - but I'm keeping everything crossed that's due to taking the first test as soon as woke up - more hormones in my bladder! But not counting my chickens (or indeed BFPs!) just yet...

Elakiya · 26/08/2020 17:34

I'm glad I found this thread. I am currently a dress size 16-18. I was a 18-20 when I went to the NHS with fertility issues and I was completely patronised and belittled. I'm trying my best to lose weight lockdown has not been my friend. I am working hard at it again. Trying to take it in 5kg steps.

Have you guys dealt with the NHS? Are they okay? Did I just end up being the victim of someone who was in a bad mood?

andpeggy1 · 27/08/2020 04:39

So glad someone set this thread up. I'm currently size 20-22. Have been losing weight since the beginning of The year as I've basically read and heard from others that unless you are smack in the healthy bmi section. The nhs will refuse to help you in anyway, and you basically get told you will never conceive. And if you do you are an abomination to the world for going ahead with an unhealthy pregnancy!

We wanted to start trying whilst on hoody's in April this year, but rona happened so no dream
Holiday, and I still need my implant removing so going to try next year. Gives me another year to try to loose more weight and get nearer (I will never achieve the perfect bmi) to the lower end of overweight bmi. (Was 47 in jan, now 41 and that's with 3 stone loss)

So glad to hear others in the same position n plus size pregnancy is so hard to find anything positive on! So let's keep this positive for each other

Muda · 27/08/2020 16:14

🤚🏼I was thinking of a thread like this and now good it would be to chat and ta dah it appeared! We’ve been trying to conceive number 1 since nov last year. And at that time I had lost a couple of stone which I was chuffed about then lockdown happened and I put that all back on plus another stone or so! I do in my head all the time this is the reason why it’s not happened for us so the start of aug me and OH have been on a health kick and both lost a stone so far- also haven’t had a takeaway in a month!

Elakiya · 27/08/2020 17:53

@Muda have you been to the NHS about not conceiving or are you going to wait until November so that it's been a full year. I know what you mean about lockdown. I gained 1/2 stone during lockdown. I now have roughly 2-3 stone to lose.

I'm doing Intermittent fasting 8-4 (as I work from home this is achievable at the moment) and today I did a low carb day. I have PCOS so have been told low carb is good for me.

Why don't we use this thread to give a daily what we ate in the day update and then have like a weekly "weigh in" where we say how much we lost?

ttc97 · 27/08/2020 19:39

It's so lovely to hear everybody's stories and opinions! I'm so glad I made this thread so that we can share and support each other!

Sending loads of love and babydust to everybody! ✨

Hello! I was about to book an appointment with my GP to go down the NHS route but another test this morning was positive and still no period so I'm keeping absolutely everything crossed.

I calorie counted to lose weight and it did work. I tracked absolutely everything and also started sessions with a personal trainer (in the park for social distancing) but I know that's not for everyone.

Metallicalover · 27/08/2020 19:58

@Elakiya I went down the NHS route but my BMI was 30 and the GP was awful. They like you to have a BMI under 30 xx

Muda · 27/08/2020 20:23

@Elakiya I’m 36 so will be talking to the gp if we haven’t conceived this month. I did speak to them over the phone a couple of months ago and they said they would send me for blood tests but would need to wait 6 weeks or so because of lockdown and getting things up and running again. But if they won’t do anything until your bmi is under 30 I’ve got some way to go!!

Muda · 27/08/2020 20:24

@BeansOnToastWithCheese congratulations on your bfp!

BeansOnToastWithCheese · 27/08/2020 21:19

Thanks :-)

I mentioned it to the GP when I went six months or so ago and he said they would put me on the waiting list while my BMI was over 30 but I wouldn't get any treatment until under 30.

He wasn't too bad about it, but I still took the news quite badly. It just made me feel really shitty about myself.

Elakiya · 27/08/2020 21:27

@BeansOnToastWithCheese How long were you trying to conceive?

My BMI's under 30 now. I am aiming to get it to under 25. Thankfully my private insurance will let me get some scans and tests done privately but won't pay for treatment. Therefore I am going to get some stuff done privately and then go back to the NHS. Hopefully by the time I have to go back to the NHS I'm either already pregnant or at a healthy BMI.

BeansOnToastWithCheese · 27/08/2020 22:12

Weirdly I got my bfp almost a year to the day I got my cool taken out. How long have you been TTC?

Congrats on getting your BMI down!

Elakiya · 28/08/2020 09:26

@BeansOnToastWithCheese technically this is my 4th cycle of trying to conceive. Having said that we’ve been married 5 years and never had protected BD. However we did literally BD like once a month at most lol because of how busy we were. But I find it hard to believe that we missed our peak all the time. Also I got quite obese and stopped ovulating.

I think for the 5 years I was so busy that I put it behind me but now at 29 when everyone around me is having kids and I am surrounded by babies I really want a baby.

How were your cycles? Were they regular?

BeansOnToastWithCheese · 28/08/2020 10:26

Mine were fairly regular once I'd had the coil removed. My first period took ages to arrive and I didn't have them at all with the coil so that took some adjusting too. But my cycles have all been between 26-29 days except one outlier when it was really late (but no BFP).

So we were TTC for 12 cycles. I've just counted.

andpeggy1 · 28/08/2020 11:43

@Elakiya sorry to be thick but what's BD? I tried googling but it kept telling me blueray disc, I don't think that's what you ment!
