I'm trying to stay away from OPKs this month. I feel I've learnt my body enough without them. I'm a very obsessive person so all I think about is TTC and OPKs seem to make me obsess even more.

I learnt too that your body favours stress hormones over reproductive ones. So I really need to stop obsessing so bad! I want to be aware of things but not let it take over my life!

mouldygrapes · 14/07/2020 17:50

@Wavesandsmilesagain - that is doxycycline. It’s a difficult one - the guidance says try to avoid in pregnancy/TTC but sometimes it has to be used.
This is what the NHS website says, and links to BUMPS which is sensible and evidence based.

www.nhs.uk/medicines/doxycycline/

Did you tell your doctor you are TTC? Might be worth double checking with them as sometimes the advice is different, countries follow different guidelines sometimes. Please don’t panic tho! PM me if you want

claireb707 · 14/07/2020 18:21
@Wavesandsmilesagain I don't think we've done it 25 times all year 🤣
Snap 😂😂

kwastell · 14/07/2020 19:13

@selina37 yes, I think it is probably trying to ovulate again.

Tried a pregnancy test but no joy.

I have obsessive tendencies too, so tried not to monitor things in detail over the 2 years we've been trying. Looks like it's fully taken over now though.

@Hayleywoody82 I think what you said about stopping the opks after you get a peak is right. I did, then started again when I got lots of EWCM in the last few days.

selina37 · 14/07/2020 19:35

@kwastell the obsessing is starting to make me unhappy, as if I've told myself I can't enjoy life until I've satisfied this need and made life with DP complete. But, once it happens I'll look back and wonder why I missed out on enjoying so much!

I lm not going to use OPKs at all this month. I know I usually get a positive on days 9/10 so just going to take that as what it is.

Maybe I'm just going to try and imagine a happy future rather than obsess over OPKs, CM and cervix position!

EJay84 · 14/07/2020 19:41

Is there a change in CM if you have implanted? What do you look out for if it's too early to test? x

Rumi1 · 14/07/2020 21:54

So I think I'm out ladies

CD 25 and I'm spotting ... so I think a full blown period is pending ... probably start fully tomorrow morning . Although I'm not due until Friday - a little strange that it's come early

Good luck ladies

@EJay84 in response to your question - if you're resting early - I think it's best to try 2-3 days before the period due date x

Good luck everyone on this cycle xxx

lastditchattempt20 · 15/07/2020 00:42

I'm with @selina37 and @claireb707 - you've got me beat for the year there @Wavesandsmilesagain. Have gone from flashing smiley this morning to static this evening. DTD last night and tonight and then hoping for a quickie tomorrow after school run 😂 then that's prob my go for this month. Have just been really busy and tired from work and y'know- life! I do feel a bit calmer about it all this month- even had a few glasses of proper fizz at the weekend. Anyway will be on TWW soon 😬 and avoiding all FRERs!

Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 08:20

Good morning all, hope you are all doing well.

kirinm · 15/07/2020 09:27

I can't shake off the worry about not being able to get pregnant. I don't know whether I should start trying to accept the possibility or even how to start doing that!

Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 10:22

@kirinm 🤞🏾you get a BFP soon. How long have you been TTC? Sending you lots of positive energy 🙏🏽❤️

kirinm · 15/07/2020 10:53

Thanks @Happyhappy37 we started at the beginning of the year but I suppose I only started using OPKs in March? I'm 42 so I know my odds aren't great anyway. As each month passes I just feel like my chances are diminishing (which I guess they are). We have a nearly 2 year old and I assumed it wouldn't be too hard this time. Stupid of me really as I had my hopes up.

Loladoodle · 15/07/2020 10:58

Hi ladies 👋 sorry have been awol but have been really busy and focusing on other things to prevent the ttc stress and obsession. I have managed (so far) to be relaxed about it this month- no opks and have only dtd when I actually wanted to enjoy it and not for ttc purposes which has been quite lovely. Hoping I can continue this approach for the remainder of the month- I am not checking my cycle days but know I ovulate some time around the next day or two as pretty regular. Have lots here to keep me busy and distracted, feeling a lot calmer without focussing on ttc all the time too.

Hope everyone is doing good and we see lots more bfps on here soon 🙏

Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 11:04

@kirinm ok I completely understand now why you might been feeling this way. Give it some more time, probably 3 months and if nothing happens, pop in to see your GP. Are taking any vitamins to aid with egg quality?
Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 11:07

@Loladoodle so glad to hear from you. Knew could do it!! You are not the crazy lady you think you are 😄 Well done.

Sending you lots of positive energy 🙏🏽🙏❤️

kirinm · 15/07/2020 11:08

No I'm not using any vitamins. Is there any guidance about what you should take? Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

@kirinm have you spoken to doc at all? Fertility investigations can start from 6 months in over 35's.

I know you already have 1 but may be worth speaking to doc about it.

I've finally managed to get him to book a doc appointment (well I physically had to phone up and book it as the appointments go so fast and he can't access his phone easily when the docs are open).
This afternoon at 4.10 🤞🤞

I'd like to know about vitamins too.

I know for definite the most important are folic acid and vitamin D (only just started on vit D though).

Calc fluor is supposedly good for implantation, as are Brazil nuts, pineapple core, and beetroot.

Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 11:47

@selina37 and @kirinm I don't know them myself, but I did a Google search and thought I would share this

CoQ10. The antioxidant coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is found in most living things and is used by cells to process energy. CoQ10 decreases as people age so some fertility doctors suggest supplementation with CoQ10, as they believe it might help protect the DNA of eggs and mitochondria from long-term damage as well as enhance energy metabolism of eggs, which is needed for normal cell division.

Red raspberry leaf tea. Red raspberry leaf tea is best used when trying to conceive, as it is know to help strengthen the uterine lining. Many health care professionals also suggest drinking a cup or two a day to prevent pregnancy complications and miscarriage.

Probiotics. Probiotics help to increase healthy gut bacteria, and a healthy digestive system can help strengthen the immune system. Proper digestion of food and absorption of vitamins and minerals is key to good health and also helps with fertility.

Zinc. Zinc plays an important role in many key reproductive health areas including egg production, as a woman’s body needs zinc to produce mature eggs that are ripe for fertilization. Zinc is also one of the minerals that helps regulate hormone levels.

Selenium. Selenium is a mineral that protects the reproductive system from free radical damage and also promotes healthy cell division. Selenium also aids the development of healthy ovarian follicles, which are responsible for the production of eggs.

Fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help to regulate hormones and have been shown to help fertility. They also assist in increasing cervical mucous, promoting ovulation and increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs. They also reduce inflammation and can help normalize a woman’s cycle.

Happyhappy37 · 15/07/2020 11:51

I hope you all find this information useful. I think I am going to get the raspberry leaf tea. I used to drink it all lot for years, but I am just learning of its benefits from this post. It's a nice tasty tea

Bearhug9 · 15/07/2020 11:58

Good luck with your Drs appointment @claireb707. I'll be interested to hear how it goes. I'm thinking I should probably go to the GP myself in a couple of months as we would have been trying for a year by then, but I keep putting it off!Confused

Sleeeeeepy · 15/07/2020 15:20

Good luck @claireb707 I hope it's a good appointment

claireb707 · 15/07/2020 15:28

Thanks will update later!

LT103 · 15/07/2020 15:34

@claireb707hope it goes ok. I’ll check back to see what they say. This is our 4th month of trying and I’m booked for bloods this month but if nothing happens in next 2 months I’ll speak to them again

shinylovesshoes · 15/07/2020 15:54

Started on the CB OPKs today as per packet instructions. I wasn’t expecting anything but the circle, and that’s exactly what I got. Not expecting a flashing smiley until Saturday to be honest, if my app is anything to go by. Be interesting to see if they match up.
I’ve been taking Co-q10, vit D, folic acid and DHA (has also got zinc in it) I also use symprove probiotics to help with a stomach issue I have....is there anything else I should consider taking?
Now that things are a getting a little bit more normal if we have no joy this month or next I’m going to speak to my GP and ask to be referred for tests. Happy to pay for them privately just to get an idea of what’s going on, if I really have left it too late. Almost feel like I need to know so can begin to accept it and move on, if that makes sense.
