Hi all, looking for some fellow ladies for support along our journeys. I'm 36 this year and TTC for the first time. First month just now and nervous. Any tips? I'm using clearblue 4 day ovulation tests just now and track my temp. Does anyone take certain vitamins? Thanks all and good luck 💗 xxx

Hey @MrsMacG10

I’m 33 and we just got our bfp on first cycle. I’m still to scared to join the pregnancy forums incase I jinx it.

I’ve been on folic acid and vitamin d supplements since I came off the pill in early February. Luckily my cycle seemed to go back to 27/28 days immediately. I Also started taking iron, & b6 vitamins the early May.

I gave up smoking beginning of May, too.

We bought the Cb ovulation digital kit because I need it spelled out to me when I’m fertile otherwise I second guess it.

We bd 3 time’s in my five day fertile period.

I’m 33, & was adamant or hadn’t worked, & it was going to be a long journey. I refused to test, all symptoms I had I put down to af symptoms. In the end I tested 16dpo just so I could see the negative and prepare for the next cycle. Got a nice strong bfp though.

I’m still in shock (& testing way too Ott)

I put a lot of it down to the opk though. All the apps were up to 3 days out, despite my cycle being regular, & I’m not sure I would have hit the right days had I relied on them. The £40 was well worth it.

Good luck!

apparently I was keep to tell you twice that I was 33 😂 sorry about that.

taraRoo · 21/06/2020 15:26

Hey I'm 38 trying for number 2. No tips. It happened in the first cycle with number 1. No way I'll be as lucky with number 2! I've not done anything yet other than just have sex though I am taking folic acid. This is my first cycle. It's really nerve wracking this time as i wasn't even sure I wanted a baby last time. Now I desperately want a second!

Good luck 😉

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 15:37

@sansa87 omg that's amazing! Congrats!! I'm currently coming up to my ovulation window. Tested today but not peaked yet. Will test again tonight. I've been tracking my cycles for a while through an app so have rough idea on ovulation but use the tests to be sure. I've got folic acid so I'll start taking them and also order some vitamin B. Thanks so much. I've convinced myself I'm too old and itll take a while so it's nice to hear others who have felt the same xxx

@tararoo thanks for commenting. I feel nervous with my age but plenty women have kids later in life and my cycle is regular so hopefully that helps. I think I'm realising more and more how much I want it now 😁 hopefully we can help each other along the way xxx

Hello! I've just turned 35 and am about to start Cycle 7. Havent used ovulation tests yet tho, was relying solely on Fertility Friend app estimations but that hasnt got me anywhere yet so have some Clearblue 4 day ovulation tests ready for this cycle!

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 15:51

Hi @gypsywater thanks for sharing your journey so far. My app currently says high fertility but test is a blank circle for today, going to test again tonight and tomorrow and hopefully see the wee smiley face.
It's so nice to have people to chat to that are in the same situation.
I'm Louise btw and stay in scotland 💗 xx

I definitely dont think the apps alone are a great way of progressing. Wish I had used ovulation tests from the start! Best of luck! :)

Thanks loads, same to you. Keep us updated ❤

Hi, I’m 31 and am just beginning TTC for number 1. Came off the pill at the end of May and have been tracking my temperature and using clearblue ovulation kits, although I think they’re 2 day ones.

We aren’t in any rush (although would ideally be pregnant by Christmas time) and I’m keen to see what my cycles are like naturally - I’ve been on the pill for about 15 years so think it might take some time!

I hadn’t even thought about vitamins so interesting to see what others are doing. Would be lovely to have some company for the journey Smile

gypsywater · 21/06/2020 16:37

Hello @flowersandfireworks!

LSL0708 · 21/06/2020 17:09

Hi All

Hope you don't mind me joining this one.

I'm 30 and TTC my first. I'm currently in the TWW of cycle 13.

I've followed SMEP for the last 2 cycles and only started using the OPKs when I started this. I tried not to get too consumed with it all, so didn't want to start testing straightaway. Safe to say it's well and truly consumed me now that it's been so long 😔

I've been taking folic acid since having the implant removed in June 2019 and did try Pregnacare for a couple of months late last year. Haven't tried temping but was thinking of starting next cycle.

Congrats @Sansa87 That's amazing news!

Fingers crossed for us all 🤞🏻

MintGreenLife · 21/06/2020 17:17

Hi everyone ☺️

I'm 31 and TTC #1. Our wedding was booked for September this year, but we've had to postpone due to the pandemic so decided to focus on TTC instead.

I came off the pill in April and thought my cycles were back on track as AF arrived 30 days after my withdrawal bleed, but I tracked my last cycle and it was completely haywire. It lasted 37 days, during which time I had three LH surges and all over the place temps. I seem to have finally ovulated on CD34 but then I got AF four days later, which meant I had a three day luteal phase!!

I'm now taking Pregnacare, a Vitamin B complex, Vit D and Vit C. I've done a lot of research and it seems long term use of the pill can dramatically deplete vitamins that are essential to normal hormone regulation. Just finished AF today so am really hoping this cycle will be better.

We've rebooked the wedding for September next year, so we were hoping it wouldn't take us more than a few months to conceive xx

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 17:25

Welcome @flowersandfireworks it's so lovely to share this experience with other! I'm going to start the seven seas pre pregnancy vitamins 💗

@LSL0708 Welcome!!! And fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻 it's hard not to get consumed with it. I've got the 4 day ovulation kits so hoping they help and track my temp with my app xxx

Welcome @MintGreenLife so sorry to hear your wedding is postponed but fab you can focus on a baby now ❤ I came off the pill a while ago and my cycle settled after a short while so hope it's the same for you xxx thanks to everyone joining I feel so much better being able to chat to people going through the same xx

MintGreenLife · 21/06/2020 17:38

@MrsMacG10 thanks so much for the kind welcome ☺️ I feel positive about our change of plan, tbh I think deciding to TTC has saved me from feeling too blue about the wedding.

How many cycles did you find it took you to get back on track? I've also completely cut alcohol (as one one month ago) and sugar - basically eating everything I can that's meant to help with fertility and get hormones back on track 😂

Do you use any apps at all? I use Premom which I find really good, although may be less useful if you're using the CB OPKs, as I use it to track my LH levels with the cheap strips, and my BBT. I've also read two books which I found brilliant - The Impatient Women's Guide to Getting Pregnant, and Taking Charge of Your Fertility x

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 18:12

@MintGreenLife if I remember it just took me a few months or so for my cycle to get back to normal. I had to use tablets to delay my period when we went on honeymoon so again that knocked my cycle off again. I use natural cycles app and thermometer to track, you have to pay for it but I find it helpful.
You're doing amazing, I need to have a healthier diet and reduce my alcohol. Lockdown hasn't helped with that at all! I'm a bit overweight so getting my healthy eating back on track as of this week.
I'll need to have a read of those books, anything that helps us along the way. I'm so impatient! 🤣 xxx

So after doing a clear blue advance test this morning and getting a blank circle I've just tested again and got the full on smiley face 😊 had anyone else had that before? Feel like I've skipped the flashing smiley xx

OP posts:
Flowersandfireworks · 21/06/2020 19:27

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone 😊 feels good to have some friends for the journey!

I’m also using natural cycles but I don’t think it’s had enough time to work me out yet. I haven’t had a smiley face yet when it thinks I’m ovulating. But that’s probably because I came off the pill so recently. Interesting that it’s changed throughout the day though! I might try that tomorrow.

I read the beginning of ‘expecting better’ which I found really useful. She reads all the different studies and summarises them. Reading things helps me feel more in control!

I’ve also not done a very good job of cutting out alcohol and lockdown doesn’t help GinGrin

MintGreenLife · 21/06/2020 19:38

@MrsMacG10 I'm not sure how I've mustered up the willpower, but I have somehow 🙈 I've managed to cut caffeine down to one green tea a day also. I think just because this cycle was such a mess and I found it so frustrating I just feel like anything I can do to help it along will be worth it if I can get back on track that little bit sooner, plus if we don't manage to conceive in the next few months we might have to rethink the new wedding date. I'm trying to avoid putting the pressure on though, if it doesn't happen in the next 2/3 months we will have to have a rethink.

Would you reccomended the CB OPKs? I feel like they could get very expensive for me if my cycle is still irregular. This last cycle I started testing on CD6 right up until CD33 when I finally got a positive, and during that time I got several 'high' results starting from CD20 🙄 Not sure if the CB ones are designed to be used over such a long timeframe?

Did you get married quite recently then? Xx

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 20:09

@MintGreenLife I definitely recommend the CB 4 day ovulation tests. Although I do think testing more than once a day helps when you have an idea of when you ovulate otherwise it would be super expensive. If you're cycle is still irregular then maybe try tracking your temp. I've used natural cycles since I came off the pill and it tells me when I ovulate too. You have to pay for the app but cheaper than CB.
We got married November 2018, we had our honeymoon in mexico last year and had to wait 6 months then I got a new job ect so TTC a little later than planned. Hopefully we conceive tonight on fathers day which would be nice 🤞🏻❤ I can but hope!xxx

OP posts:
MintGreenLife · 21/06/2020 20:17

@MrsMacG10 I might carry on with the cheap OPKs this cycle, and if it's a bit more regular then may try the CB ones next cycle if we don't catch this month. I started tempting last cycle, but that won't give me much insight until my cycles are more regular either I don't think.

Ah lovely! Bet you were so glad you got married before everything kicked off. Honeymoon sounds fab. We are hoping wedding ceramonies with small numbers may be able to go ahead again soon, as if so we will stick to our original date this year and have a small ceramony with just 8 family members, and then throw the 'wedding' just before our one year wedding anniversary next year.

You probably already know this, but from the books I've read and my research the highest changes of conception are the two days before ovulation ☺️ are you planning on DTD everyday during your fertile window, or a little less? We tried everyday in our first cycle but think OH found it a bit much 😂 So we just try and do every other day through most of the cycle x

maria1984m · 21/06/2020 20:35

Hi ladies

I'm 36 this year too and ttc our first so would love to chat with people in the same boat!

I came off the mini pill about a month a go no period but have been feeling a bit off did a test last weekend and negative but prior to opening a bottle of wine with Sunday dinner took another test and it came up positive today!!!

I'm a worrier so planning on taking another one tommorow so keeping fingers firmly crossed

Be great to have some like minded people yo to share the journey with x

MrsMacG10 · 21/06/2020 20:41

@MintGreenLife fingers crossed you still get married this year. I'm sure small ceremonies will go ahead and what a great way to celebrate your anniversary with a party if all goes to plan.
We DTD yesterday morning so will try for tonight and tomorrow night 🤞🏻 hubby is finally back at work tomorrow so may be too tired tomorrow night but we shall see! I want it to be as natural as possible with no pressure.
After a few months of measuring your temp you should get a better picture of your cycle 💗 xxx
