Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

I've read the same @Daffodil21, so assuming I got my ovulation date right hopefully we've pinpointed the days with the highest chance of conception. Haha thanks, am ready for a few anxiety inducing days!

kirsty0028 · 30/05/2020 23:56

Hey all sorry I've been MIA all day been busy with work 🙂 I will scroll back down through to have a catch up! So weird new development for those of you with fitbits , my resting heart rate has jumped to between 95 and 100 beats per minute when I'm resting 😮. Could this mean something!? That is soooo high.

Also question re using opks to test for pregnancy.
Does any body know that you can still be pregnant if you're not having Positive OPKs at 9dpo 🤔 like I mean I had a positive ovulation test when I was ovulating but I heard somewhere If your pregnant you'll have an lh surge or it will pick it up or something and mine are really low. I've been testing with those along with amazon cheapies. I did go out and get FRERs tho! I might use one tomorrow (10dpo) or Monday (11 dpo). AF is due Friday.

I'm going crazy I just took another amazon cheapie like 10 mins ago and another BFN l!!!

Daffodil21 · 30/05/2020 23:59

@MintGreenLife Let's hope so!! I find it gets worse the closer you get to AF. I hope it doesn't drag on too much for you. I've got a video appointment with the fertility clinic on Monday so that will keep me slightly distracted from counting the days!!

Daffodil21 · 31/05/2020 00:01

@kirsty0028 if you're testing early then you def need to do it with FMU x

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 00:12

Thanks @Daffodil21 - is my first TWW! I think like you say I'll probably be ok up until the last 5 days or so. I may risk testing around 12DPO. Hope the fertility clinic appointment goes well, that's good that you have that coming up to distract you slightly. You'll have to let us know how you get on xx

Daffodil21 · 31/05/2020 00:17

@MintGreenLife no harm in testing early if you want to - keep us posted! Thanks, I'm not quite sure what it will be like over video. It's our first one app so not sure what to expect in general! Some progress at least though

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 00:25

@Daffodil21 yes definitely, and at least you're not being made to wait even longer because of the current situation. Will keep you posted, and likewise, let me know how you're getting on ☺️

Daffodil21 · 31/05/2020 00:31

@MintGreenLife I think we will be delayed after the initial appointment. We don't know if we'll be offered IVF yet, but if we are then the waiting list has gone up from 6 months to 10 months, and I think it takes a few months of tests and appointments before you even get in the waiting list. Anyway, I'm
going to get off mumsnet and get some sleep! Looking forward to reading your updates

Peach1204 · 31/05/2020 05:27

@MintGreenLife it's so lovely there! It's great when someone's in sync with you. My DH was looking into my Flo app yesterday so knew it was a lucky night for him! We were doing everyday but by day 3 it was not as easy so decided every other and hope it's ok! I'm going to try and hold off until AF if I can. What will you do? Xxx

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 09:19

It was the first time we had left our immediate local area months @Daffodil21 felt seriously good to get some fresh air and a change of scene! Yay glad to have someone I'm in sync with. Are you tracking BBT at all? I had a small temp dip yestday and a small increase today - not much though but today was the highest temp I've had so far- I only started tracking about a week ago when I thought OPKs were letting me down, which turned out to actually just be my cycle as I ovulated late on CD20! But hopefully the fact that my temp did dip and has gone back up is a good thing. Yeah I'm thinking the same. According to my app AF is due on the 13th. I was quite worried that we missed a day yesterday, but think we DTD on the two most crucial days, and one other day during my fertile window xx

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 09:20

Sorry @Daffodil21 message above was meant for @Peach1204 - clearly the heat is getting to me 🙈

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 09:20

@Daffodil21 message for you here 😂

That's a long wait but at least as of Monday the ball will be rolling. Will keep my fingers crossed for you and let me know how it goes x

Peach1204 · 31/05/2020 09:56

@MintGreenLife it was nice and most people were social distancing which was reassuring. I haven't been doing anything other than using the Flo app. I'm going to give this month a go then if nothing happens I'll up the tracking to include more things. Xxx

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 10:00

@Peach1204 we found the same, and were really lucky as we only saw about 4 people on our whole 3 hour walk. Ahh you've been much more chilled about it than me then 😂 I was just using OPKs and keeping an eye on CM, but by CD15 and with no sign of ovulation I have in to charting my BBT too. I made a promise to myself if it got too much or felt too stressful I would scale back again and just use the good old DTD everyother day... which we are doing anyway 🙈

Mrskcam · 31/05/2020 10:02

Morning all how is everyone?

Have to say I'm really happy with how my partner is adjusting to ttc. Obviously it's what we both want but I was scared he was going to be kinda overwhelmed and not want to know anything apart from just having sex but he's asked me to explain my cycle to him and this morning he came in the kitchen and the first words out his mouth were "so I've been doing some research into trying for a baby from a mans perspective and found some tips to help with keeping my sperm good". Like at first I thought he's probably gonna get annoyed about me going on about it so much because he's such a "it'll happen when it's supposed to no use worrying" sort of person but he's being really proactive!

Daffodil21 · 31/05/2020 10:20

@MintGreenLife haha I was a bit confused!! We also had a socially distant outing with friends on the beach yesterday, it was nice to get out of our town and my head for a few hours! They have a girl who's just under two so I couldn't switch off completely but it was really nice.

@Mrskcam great to hear about your DH, do share any tips!

When it comes to the men, my DH has been taking these: www.proceive.co.uk/proceive-men. He was taking the tablets but now takes the powder you mix with water. His sperm morphology (shape) has doubled since he has been taking them (it's still low though)

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 10:30

@Daffodil21 haha so sorry 🙈 Oh lovely, beach trip sounds amazing. I think I would find that slightly challenging also, but sounds like you had a nice time overall ☺️

@Mrskcam that's great! I told my OH when I was ovulating this month and unfortunately he felt under too much pressure 😩 Won't do that again, although I did point out to him that he's going to know regardless as we are aiming to DTD 3-4 days in a row over fertile period so not sure how I'm meant to get around that. We only managed the two days before ovulation this time as he wasn't up for it yesterday on ovulation day. Found it hard not to be disappointed but of course couldn't get annoyed with him. So sweet your OH is happily getting involved and doing his research ☺️

Peach1204 · 31/05/2020 10:51

@MintGreenLife I think I had in my head it will be a couple of months to get the pill out of me and get back to a cycle that's regular but that's happened fairly quickly. Like with @Mrskcam my DH is very supportive and has started taking the vitamins and asking about cycle days. It's good to know he's just as on board although I think he's been ready for a while now.xxx

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 11:22

@Peach1204 that's great. I'm unsure as to how things are going with my cycle post pill - this is my second cycle off the pill, first was 30 days, and then as I didn't ovulate until CD20 I suspect this one will be slightly longer.

That's great your partner is so supportive. Mine is definitely on board, but it's me driving things so to speak. It's me that really wants a family, whereas he's a bit indifferent and wants it because it's what I want, so he's not so interested in knowing more about my cycle and how it all works I don't think 🙈

Mrskcam · 31/05/2020 11:27

I was really scared that my partner would be overwhelmed and back away but he's so excited bless him! He's even tackled loads of the jobs around the house that have kinda been hanging round for a while.

@MintGreenLife I think it's natural for men to kinda take a step back in this sometimes as I can imagine it's a lot for them to take in and they probably feel a bit helpless at times. Hopefully with a little bit of time he will get used to it (and the amount of sex lol).

@Peach1204 my partner has been taking vitamins too!

@Daffodil21 so far he's said it's good to wear loose boxers, avoid really hot baths, sperm quality is better every other day rather than every day or multiple times a day and he also read about meditation but that's not really scientific evidence so take that as you please haha.

Peach1204 · 31/05/2020 11:36

@MintGreenLife hopefully things sync up soon so it's easier to predict things.

@Mrskcam love a supportive partner!

Mine has been sending my pictures of Disney baby grows! 💕😊 xxx

SK2970 · 31/05/2020 11:36

My AF arrived yesterday Sad should be glad that the TWW was cut short but I'm still a bit gutted and I HATE AF!!
I have sat down with DH and gone through the calendar, he was shocked at it all because he just thought it would happen like it does for others! Must try harder this time!

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 11:46

@Mrskcam I do feel bad for making him feel under pressure 😩 But actually to be honest I did everything possible to try and make the sudden onset of TTC everyday nice for him and as natural and enjoyable as possible, rather than being like 'we have to do it right now!'

As this is month one I expect many men would feel under pressure. I think because only a month ago we were still on track for our wedding late summer, and now we've switched our focus and decided to TTC instead he probably just needs some time to adjust. I think he's quietly excited though, he did say to me yesterday that he really wants us to fall pregnant, so I know his heart is in it ☺️ And I just mentioned a few weeks ago he might want to think about taking a multi vit and he went straight online and ordered some and has been taking them ever since, so he is doing his bit

@SK2970 sorry to hear AF arrived, how early was it? Sounds like you're going to be well prepared for your new cycle ☺️ Hope you're not feeling to blue about it? X

Mrskcam · 31/05/2020 12:12

@MintGreenLife we sound in similar positions, just last month we were focused on our wedding in November and now we are suddenly ttc but I think ever since our we fell pregnant last July we both realised how bad we want a family and to have waited another year (was gonna wait till November) I think it's now a feeling of euphoria that we can just go for it! This is our first cycle as well and a bit of me is praying that we are one of those lucky ones that fall on the first cycle but trying not to get my hopes too up

MintGreenLife · 31/05/2020 12:20

@Mrskcam awh it's so good finding other people that have been going through similar things. Our wedding is booked for early September so we're not hopeful. Do you think you may possibly still be able to go ahead for November? We haven't officially postponed yet but we're not going to leave it any later than early July. I feel kind of the same! On the one hand I know it's probably unlikely that we will conceive first try, but on the other hand I know I'll be a little disappointed at a negative test or if AF arrives.
