Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have made the decision to try for a baby - we had a talk last month after I thought I might be pregnant (we weren't actively trying) and after 12 years together feel that now is the right time.

I'm feeling really excited and a little nervous - I know it may take a while and I just want to be as prepared as possible and be doing as many of the right things as I can.

What do people recommend for trying to get pregnant? Is anyone else in the same boat and would like to keep in touch/progress?

I'm due to finish AF in around 2 days and due to ovulate around 28th according to my tracker app - I've got folic acid and vitamin D arriving tomorrow that I can start taking, what else can I be doing to prepare as much as possible? I know it sounds silly, but do we just start 'trying' as soon as my period is over?

Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

Thanks,

Bee x

@MintGreenLife thankfully I'm not working today but I have to extra disciplined when I am!!!!

@Aokbaby the only thing I notice is a little bit of breast soreness. But it's only mild, I think I'm only noticing it now because I'm looking out for it!!

SaraVB · 25/05/2020 14:09

@MintGreenLife I'm the same! It's a great tool for procrastinating during the week when work's getting a bit boring!!

I had a lot to catch up on after the weekend. I hope everyone's doing ok and those in the TWW are staying sane!

Aokbaby · 25/05/2020 15:34

@Daffodil21 yea I've had a small bit of tenderness as well, but this nipple thing is all new to me lol, like you it may just be because I'm watching out for every minor change, hopefully it's nothing to worry about x

Hi everyone. I hope you don’t mind one more newbie to the group?! Felt like I fitted in.

33 from Wales currently trying for #1 after a miscarriage last November. Had the surgical d&c in January and been trying for about 2 months since.

Currently taking the seven seas supplement and on day 2 of CB digital OPK. Got a flashing smiley today which means I guess tonight is his lucky night 😂 shall I test again this evening?

Looking forward to tracking everyone’s stories! ☺️

SaraVB · 25/05/2020 16:27

@AlisonLew15 welcome!! Really sorry to hear about your MC. I hope this group brings everyone luck!!

Not very well informed on OPKs so can't help much but I guess once you have a smiley it's prob full steam ahead haha

I'm 33 as well and hopefully will start using OPKs next month if this month's not successful. Only second month TTC but I live in Portugal.. everything's been closed and the post has been slower than usual. Still waiting for my delivery 3 weeks later!!

Summertime1992 · 25/05/2020 16:53

@AlisonLew15 Hi and sorry to here about your MC best of luck to you, I love travelling to Wales its so beautiful (though I have not been in awhile with the lockdown).

Im on CD 5 now first month of TTC, period finished Saturday night, feel like this month is going to drag, glad to be going to work tomorrow so I do not procrastinate on it too much.

Good look to those in their 2WW :).

AlisonLew15 · 25/05/2020 17:14

Thanks both. Re: miscarriage I’m quite positive that everything happens for a reason and I would have been due now. Scary times to be bringing a baby into the world!

I think I’ll stick to testing once a day with my OPKs, the Clearblue are extortionate!

Anyone else’s OH feel under pressure when it’s your fertile window? I think it’s going to be a struggle DTD every/every other day where as he wouldn’t normally mind daily.

Daffodil21 · 25/05/2020 17:47

Hi @AlisonLew15, welcome!

Sorry to hear about your previous experience. I'm also TTC after MC, one of which would have been due about now so fully get it. Hopefully good news for us both (and all) soon x

SaraVB · 25/05/2020 18:12

@AlisonLew15 mine kees saying that he doesn't want things to feel mechanical and forced and that he just wants things to go on as normal. We don't really DTD quite so often normally hahah I think if I just let things go on as normal it would take me 10 years to get pregnant.

Trying my best not to make it feel like routine but it's not easy. Starting to feel like a teenage boy at this point!

SaraVB · 25/05/2020 18:16

@AlisonLew15 @Daffodil21 your positive attitudes are an inspiration! You're going to be great mums I'm sure

AlisonLew15 · 25/05/2020 18:27

@SaraVB sounds exactly like my DH word for word! I’ve told him he better make the most of it because if I fall pregnant that’s the end of the hanky panky again 😂 Thank you for your kind words!

Nice to know we are all at similar stages ☺️

HJen22 · 25/05/2020 19:11

Hi @AlisonLew15 👋🏻 so sorry to hear about your MC, hoping this group brings us all luck.

Im a bit the same with my OH, it's way less now than what it used to be when we first met so I'm going have to try and insinuate it more this month without him thinking it's just with babies on my mind! However I'm so sensitive it could def lead to a few huffs! But if we continue the way it is, same it could take forever!

Daffodil21 · 25/05/2020 19:44

Also please ignore my post earlier about contents of folic acid in food - I got a bit excited and posted before I researched properly! Folic acid is a synthetic vitamin which is added to food (like cereals) but it is not found in natural foods. Folate is found in natural foods (I think your body turns folates into folic acid?). But anyway, looks like it's best to keep taking that one!!

Quite enjoying researching and meal planning though!

Summertime1992 · 25/05/2020 19:44

Me and my partner are the same, When we met we did it every time we saw each other, but over time we decided we both enjoy it more when it is not every other day, so usually a couple times a week, so will be difficult to try and not make it feel like a chore, and I get tired after long days in work.

I think am just not going to let him know that am fertile and just seduce him, it isn't that hard a job ;).

Daffodil21 · 25/05/2020 19:55

@SaraVB thank you - it certainly doesn't feel that way most of the time, but this three has massively helped me be a bit more positive (until AF arrives again anyway!)

@Summertime1992 I don't tell DH when my FW is, but he works it out pretty swiftly!

AlisonLew15 · 25/05/2020 19:58

I’m terrible at initiating sex! I totally agree, he will know it’s just because I’ve got baby making on my mind 😂

When I got pregnant last year, on my first appointment with the nurse she advised a Prescription for a higher dose of folic acid because my BMI was too high apparently. I’m a bit chubby since we got married 1st June last year but not overly over weight (11st at 5’2) Any else worry they’re not getting enough folic acid from shop bought supplements?

HJen22 · 25/05/2020 20:02

Haha yeah it was pretty obvious last month when FW was 😂

We were the same, I guess as time goes on it changes. Before we lived together it was every time we seen each other. Then living together, being busy with work, and then my OH doesn't sleep great so quite often doesn't come to bed at the same time as he's not tired. I'd be raging though if I stayed up then when it came to bed time we didn't DTD! Oh the joys!

HJen22 · 25/05/2020 20:05

Haha raging is a bit extreme but sure you know what I mean 😂 I am always tired and get up earlier for work than he does. So forcing myself to stay up til he's tired just doesn't always happen

Peach1204 · 25/05/2020 20:08

Just reading everyones posts and think maybe I'm too blunt 😂 I stood in front of my OH yesterday in my birthday suit and said do you want to make a baby?! I mean it worked but maybe that's because we are in the early stages! Fertile check fertility gel came today - dtd everyday I think I'll need this! Will let you know thoughts once used. I've heard to not use the whole tube at once so already going to take that on board. Xxx

Summertime1992 · 25/05/2020 20:09

@AlisonLew15 I always worry about supplements, before lockdown I was due to get my bloods done as I think I may have insufficiency in B12 anyway due to the symptoms I get but have been unable to get my bloods done as only urgent bloods are being processed in my area. I just try and eat a balanced diet as much as able and continue to take the recommended level of supplements (I am pretty fussy with food).

HJen22 · 25/05/2020 20:16

@Peach1204 haha go you! That's what I should try! I'm just a bit shy and sensitive that if I try it on and he says he's too tired I'd be offended so I most often leave it to him to initiate! But I'm going to have to up my game!

I've been reading up more about vitamins and caffeine etc since I realised I'd not really researched much! I'm sticking with folic acid for now and will maybe have a look for pre-pregnancy next time I'm in a big supermarket.

Summertime1992 · 25/05/2020 20:16

@HJen22 I would be fuming too, I remember once when my partner had gone away on a lads holiday and he got home and I had dolled up fully prepared for some action and he was so hung over did not get of the couch for the whole day feeling sorry for himself expected me to look after him I was fuming (lucky it is one every few years).

@Peach1204 Haha I have to admit I am not subtle when wanting to DTD usually, I'll just dress up and seduce him, but I think knowing we are trying definitely adds a level of pressure.

I have used lube before when I had the implant as it affected my CM, I think it is great. I have conceive plus I think I will put it in before we do anything as I imagen its a mood killer in the middle off DTD.

Peach1204 · 25/05/2020 20:19

@HJen22 to be fair, he was doing jobs round the house so any excuse to stop! 😂

I've just changed to decaf tea bags. Hoping I can then cut down from 3/4 to 2 a day. Xxx

Peach1204 · 25/05/2020 20:22

@Summertime1992 I agree there is more pressure. Dtd yesterday and today and today was not as easy as yesterday. Definitely the gel will help both of us. He's back at work tomorrow but I'm hoping we can continue everyday, if it gets too much next cycle I'll change to every other but make sure we do it on my peak day. Xxx

HJen22 · 25/05/2020 20:25

@Summertime1992 how annoying! It would have cured his hangover for sure too!! I'm going to try and if he does say anything I'm just going to have to gently explain if we are serious in trying, we need to up DTD!

@Peach1204 yeah before I'd maybe have 4 max coffees a day but normally around 2 which I read is ok, just instant. Just need to cut anything else though like green or tea bags. I read peppermint is caffeine free so will stick to that. Was going to try and cut down to 1 coffee, will maybe try decaf to trick myself!
