Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@RDC2020 welcome, sorry to hear about your wedding, I think mine might have to be postponed too, its booked for September 12th this year at the minute but that's not looking very likely now with everything that is going on and we were originally going to wait until after the wedding to start ttc but considering we're not really sure when that will be we just decided to go for it now, good luck ☺ I'm also googling everything under the sun at the moment and watching lots of youtube videos xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/05/2020 16:43

@jessmcg @MyGossip @Vil10 - my mum (who is not subtle about wanting to be a grandparent) keeps going on about how she came off the pill and immediately got pregnant with me. Cheers mum, good for you! Hmm Hopefully baby dust runs in families?

jules5232 · 12/05/2020 16:44

@Vil10 We "started trying" in March, but I was just timing that first month on my best guess but had a really whacky cycle after being furloughed from work. Last month was the first real try with OPK testing and we roughly went by the SMEP (sperm meets egg plan) which is just basically DTD way more haha. So I would say this is month 2 for me.

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 16:56

@TheDaydreamBelievers My mum also does not keep her desires to herself! Annoyingly she always told me that she fell pregnant easily but I found out recently she had some challenges, although she was 40 (I’m 32) and I think her challenges were mostly age related - back then there was no support for ‘older’ mothers at all! She keeps telling me that it’ll be easy for me because I’m younger and I’m like IM TRYING!!! lol.

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 16:58

@jessmcg Yeah I did wonder if my cycles would be different - I had very regular periods with the coil and didn't bleed when it got taken out... suppose it's just a waiting game! 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Mygossip - Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one googling! Haha.

@KatieG200394 fingers crossed all is back to a (sort of) normal by September. Yeah we were going to wait until after the wedding - but May as well try now we're all in lockdown! Fingers crossed for you! X

TTCYFF2020 · 12/05/2020 17:01

Hi all!

I'm 3 days into trying the Easy@home ovulation test strips and its quote stressful! First day the app show it was high in the AM then low in the PM, then high in the AM then peak in the PM. I suppose its only the first month and i only came off the pill last month haha.

Charlotte2020 · 12/05/2020 17:02

@RDC2020 I had my mirena coil out on the 8th May and have been googling galore. Totally overwhelmed with information! If I told my mum we were trying she'd probably go out buying stuff so she can know when/if I actually get pregnant!
Bit difficult to know ovulation dates as my AF pretty much stopped with a coil, just blindly DTD a lot at the moment!

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 17:07

@Charlotte2020 I had a period every 31 days with the coil - not sure it made a difference that mine was the non hormonal one?!

Just hoping the removal didn't mess up my cycle! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Who knew TTC would be so complicated 😂😂

Good luck to you!

Charlotte2020 · 12/05/2020 17:20

@RDC2020 good luck to you to! I was told AF should go back to normal immediately so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Vil10 · 12/05/2020 18:27

@jessmcg it’s hard to get to grips with it all at first though isn’t it, it’s not as easy as “I stop taking the pill then I’ll get pregnant next week” you have to change a lot and have a lot of planning in place! We were the same really, I came off end of jan but had a spine operation 12th Feb so couldn’t DTD until beginning of March, which in that month I had 2 af so my cycle was all over the place, I’d say we started trying properly with opk and tracking my days at the end of March!
@jules5232 it sounds like you’re going for the same technique as us with SMEP, it’s usual for us to be DTD every 2/3 days, which makes it better for us because we are used to it and I didn’t want it to start becoming a chore!
@MyGossip this is exactly how I felt!! I jusr didn’t want it to be a chore and planned every time basically rubbish sex all the time haha, but like you I do like to remind my OH when I am most fertile!

jules5232 · 12/05/2020 18:50

@Vil10 I hear you. We were more in the 1-2 times per week routine (even as newlyweds!) and last month it forced us to BD more frequently. I have to say I didn't mind one bit! I was worried it would feel like a chore, but it hasn't yet.
I had to explain how a cycle works to my OH and once he understood he was completely on board. He thought we could get a BPF anytime like we are all led to believe. Now he always asks what color the stick was today haha

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 18:59

Going to order ovulation test strips, can anyone recommend a brand? I've got clear our digital but for testing each day I think cost wise buying strip ones might be better 😊😊

KatieG200394 · 12/05/2020 19:08

@MyGossip I've been trying a couple different ones but I think the easy@home brand ones are better as its easier to see the lines on those, you can buy them on Amazon xx

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 19:15

@KatieG200394 thank you. I've just googled them and can see they work with Premom too. Thanks so much 😘

KatieG200394 · 12/05/2020 19:21

@MyGossip you're welcome 😘 yeah, I love the Premom app, been finding it really useful xx

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 19:40

@MyGossip @KatieG200394 do you find the Premom app accurate?

I've used Flo to track my periods for over a year - with periods it was mainly accurate, occasionally a day out. However, it is saying I'm due to ovulate tomorrow - but tests are all negative.

Thanks 😊 x

Vil10 · 12/05/2020 19:44

@KatieG200394 @MyGossip I have been using the ova view test strips but I’ve just ordered some of the easy@home ones too!

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 19:47

@RDC2020 I've only just downloaded Premom today but have been using Flo since January. I find it semi accurate but like you I was due to ovulate yesterday and my tests were negative 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😕

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 19:50

@MyGossip I've downloaded the premom and quickly added all my past periods for the last few months and it has said ovulation is in 3-4 days - whereas Flo says tomorrow.

Who knows! Just going to test everyday and DTD every/ every other day. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Franki1986 · 12/05/2020 19:55

hey all,
Is it ok to join in /
My husband and I were going to try later in the year but started ttc last week, we thought what are we waiting for I am 34 later in the year he is 37 feeling nervous, however as soon as we started trying its all I can think about and, we always wanted kids just quite daunting anyone else felt the same? excited for you all x

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 20:14

@Franki1986 Hi 👋🏼
I feel the same! Once we decided to try this month it is really daunting it is also all I think about - probably not made better by the fact that I'm not working because of the lockdown!! Lots of spare time on my hands.

Good luck 🙌🏼🤞🏼

KatieG200394 · 12/05/2020 20:58

@Vil10 I love the easy@home ones, they're so much clearer ☺ xx
@RDC2020 I haven't been using Premom for very long but so far it seems on par with what my body is doing so I think its been pretty accurate for me anyway xx

Scarlettxo · 12/05/2020 21:08

Hey all :) Can I get on this thread please? It’s my first cycle TTC & haven’t told anyone as I don’t want the pressure! But I feel like me and partner already feeling pressure just us two! I’m having trouble with my OPK’s (using Clear Blue digital reader) trying to sync up with apps & OPKs but it’s so disheartening not getting that smiley face :( Hope to hear from you all, good luck to everyone too! GrinGrin xxx

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 21:13

@RDC2020 yeh my two apps vary from a day or two but from the info I've got from today from this thread is to keep testing! I've just bought more ovulation stocks as only got the clear blue ones just now and tbh they are quite pricey to keep using twice a day.

@Scarlettxo @Franki1986 hello! I'm the same. So disheartening and frustrating. I keep telling myself it's only been a few months 🤷🏼‍♀️ good luck!!

Scarlettxo · 12/05/2020 21:19

@MyGossip Tell me about it! I’ve been trying to use the CB digital and only have a few strips left, very pricey to top up!

Might just get a bunch of cheaper ones? Any suggestions which are best?

The TWW is proving worse than I thought! I had very tender breasts, cramping etc. All pms signs but I think I’m talking myself into early symptoms - I’m only 6DPO (according to Flo! And Ovia gave me different dates...) due time of month around 22nd/23rd. Eek! Xx
