Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

Thank you everyone 🥰 really appreciate it. I will be joining a thread in August again once we're trying 🤣 partner has already been warned that come August it will be all systems go 😂 I think I already processed it before as I was quite down for a bit but now I'm just thinking of the plus's and that we managed to do something 😂 apparently chemicals can happen in 50-60% of first pregnancies 😭 but I'm just trying to see it as a trial run lol. Also my periods will be in a better cycle come August so there's that too 😊 xxx

jbx10 · 11/05/2020 10:15

@jessmcg that makes total sense and I'd not thought of it that way before. We are in early days, just into week 3 of TTC & I'm panicking because I've not had AF yet since coming off the pill but I am really just trying to relax and let things happen. I like to be very organised in my work, home & social life so it is hard to just let that go especially for something so important to you & your DH. Meditation is a great idea, is it just an online programme?

I'm also going to start yoga after seeing someone on the thread recommending 😇 something can continue too once we (hopefully) get our BFP xxx

Hello everyone,

New to mumsnet but glad I have found something that I can relate too. Some much information out there that it becomes a tad overwhelming.

Trying to conceive and been trying since mid Jan and nothing. Normal 28-30 day cycle and was ovulating last month - Smile ...however been taking ovulation tests this month and nothing. Can you ovulate one month and not the other? I’ve been tracking with Flo and today is my ovulation date but nothing.

I never thought I wanted a baby but I think seeing a negative on a test gives you a better indication of what you’re really feeling and for me it was disappointment Sad

After reading all your comments I hope you all get the blues lines you want! I hope I do too!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 11/05/2020 11:15

@MyGossip - welcome! I know you can get cycles where you just don't ovulate for some reason (high levels of exercise, low or high bodyweight, stress!). If it happens more, maybe get checked out.

Also have read on here that the hormones that flag up on the ovulation tests can change across a day, so could be you did ovulate but the hormones just weren't that high at the time you tested?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 11/05/2020 11:17

Sorry, meant to add @MyGossip. I totally know what you mean about the disappointment telling you something. I took a test a few weeks back just because my period hasn't appeared after coming off the pill. Even though I totally knew it would be negative (hadn't properly started trying at that point), I felt pretty disappointed about it!

jessmcg · 11/05/2020 12:49

@MyGossip welcome! Totally know what you and @TheDaydreamBelievers mean. At the end of last year I hadn’t thought I was super wanting to conceive or anything, but then a couple of friends of mine told me they were pregnant and I realised I REALLY wanted to be pregnant. Before I had no idea!

MyGossip · 11/05/2020 13:03

@TheDaydreamBelievers the last two months I’ve definitely had ovulation pains and it was confirmed on my ovulation tests. But thus month nothing? Some small aches but not like the pains I had last month. I’ve also read not to test first thing in the morning too? Not sure if that’s correct as there’s so much information.

Great to know both of you @thedaydreamerbeliver and @jessmcg feel similar, makes me feel a little more normal. I’ve always been so career focused, I still am but it was nice to know that there was a bigger feeling of wanting something I didn’t think I did. Maybe I’ve convinced myself for years that it wasn’t for me?

Finding it all really stressful and a little overwhelming tbh. Confused ...but again so glad I’ve stumbled across this website and group. ❤️

Vil10 · 11/05/2020 13:43

@mrsgtobe97 thinking of you and sending you love! I think it’s great that you’re feeling positive and in the head space that you are!

Welcome @MyGossip I know this thread has really helped answer some questions I’ve had so hopefully it can do the same for you!

That being said I have another question for you ladies, I thought af had finished last night, had no bleeding from yesterday afternoon all the way through to this afternoon, just now gone to start opk and bleeding again when wiping? TMI I know but I’m so confused??

jessmcg · 11/05/2020 13:47

@Vil10 I think that can happen occasionally - I used to get that every now and again. It’s like your body stops and then realises there’s still a bit left?? Did your AF finish early before it’s return today?

Vil10 · 11/05/2020 13:51

@jessmuch that makes sense, it was 4 days yesterday but the others I’ve had since coming off the pill have also been 3-4 days, and when I was on the pill my withdrawal bleed was only usually 4-5 days! It’s so hard as well because you read things that says your period will likely go back to how it was before the pill but for me that was almost 7 years so I can’t remember what mine were like before the pill!

KatieG200394 · 11/05/2020 14:22

@mrsgtobe97 thinking of you ❤

@MyGossip welcome, I understand how you, @TheDaydreamBelievers and @jessmcg feel too, my best friend from uni recently gave birth to her son and it really made me realise I also really want kids too xx

Aokbaby · 12/05/2020 07:27

@mrsgtobe97 sorry to hear this but you have a great attitude, best of luck with wedding xx

@Vil10 same has happened me this month, usually af is very light and short since coming off pill but this month af was there for 4 days, then nothing, then back for 2. In a way I'm almost glad it's longer as I'm taking it to mean that perhaps I've ovulated this month and not the others? xx

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 09:05

@jbx10 it’s an online programme - I did pay for it though, I think about £20. But, it’s definitely keeping me calm! It’s through a company called Circle & Bloom xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 12/05/2020 10:58

Definitely finding this hard as a planner as @jessmcg said. I'd ordered ovulation tests but they still havent arrived and as period hasn't either I'm almost feeling frustrated that I dont even know if I'm TTC yet? Does that make sense?! Like if I'm not actually ovulating atm then I havent even started TTC yet, but I have no idea if that's the case! Teenage me definitely wasnt considering this when she went on the pill!

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 12:01

I feel your frustration @TheDaydreamerBelivers . I walked passed a chemist yesterday and popped in for some more ovulation tests (respectfully and carefully of course). Yet to take one today but feeling equally frustrated.

I think I’m feeling it more because I have been furloughed in the last two weeks and it’s playing on my mind a little more than usual.

I spent most of my twenties trying not to get pregnant and now I’m spending my thirties stressing trying too! 🙈

jules5232 · 12/05/2020 15:10

@Vil10 Is the spotting after it ended still bright red or darker? Mine does this sometimes when the last day or two are really light. It goes on an extra day or two almost brown and really light. I think its just extra working its way through. Hasn't really ever affected my overall cycle length though so I wouldn't worry unless it ends up being an ongoing thing.

Vil10 · 12/05/2020 15:19

@jules5232 it’s stopped now! It just must’ve been what you said, just like a bit extra making it’s way through, it was a light pink/brown like you said!
I’m feeling really positive though to be starting this next cycle! Who else has just finished af ready to start using opk xx

jules5232 · 12/05/2020 15:39

@Vil10 Oh good! I'm glad to hear that.
I started OPKing today (CD9) and got a medium red color so just waiting for that change over to a dark line in the next few days. Fingers crossed I catch it this month, but I'm feeling pretty positive as well.

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 15:39

@MyGossip I feel you!!! I had no appreciation for my body or my fertility in my teens and 20s and now I’m 32 and want to get pregnant and it feels like such a steep mountain to climb. Really unhelped by a few of my friends getting pregnant super quickly and not meaning to, but making me feel like crap because it’s not been quick for me at all. Anyway, it’s all a big learning curve and we WILL get our BFPs! We are all in this together :)

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 15:40

@Vil10 @jules5232 I’m on CD8 so very close to you ladies! I don’t use OPKs, I use Clearblue digital, but am with you all the way!

Vil10 · 12/05/2020 16:04

@jessmcg @MyGossip my friends are exactly the same!! One of them just decided to only take her pill when she could be bothered and had the “if it happens it happens mentality”, 3rd week of doing this she fell pregnant!! And so many people I know are pregnant it’s crazy, but then on the other hand I have a friend who has been trying for 8 months and has pcos and she’s really struggling, it makes me feel bad for moaning when I haven’t even been trying as long as her!
@jules5232 I’m on CD6 so may start tomorrow!
Also can I ask how long everyone has been ttc?x

RDC2020 · 12/05/2020 16:07

Hi all - hope it’s ok for me to join this thread! I’ve been reading for a while and it seems so supportive! 😊

This is my first month TTC (my OH and I were supposed to get married in July - not looking likely now so we thought we’d TTC early - postponed the wedding to August 2021).

Had my copper coil removed May 7th - my FLO app says I’m ovulating in 2 days. I’ve been doing CB ovulation tests but nothing so far... 🤷🏻‍♀️ my OH and I have been DTD every day/ every other day (not much else to do during lockdown!). AF is due 29th May.

Good luck to everyone else! 🤞🏼💛

P.s is anyone else going crazy googling everything - especially with the extra time because of lockdown! Driving myself insane!

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 16:20

@Vil10 I got my copper coil taken out last August so we’ve technically been TTC since then, but frankly up until Christmas was a total write off. We had no idea what we were doing and I look back and am embarrassed that we even thought we were trying! We weren’t timing it right and we hadn’t adjusted our lifestyles at all - both doing super stressful jobs, not eating right and not sleeping enough, etc etc. We only started taking it properly seriously from a couple of months ago.

jessmcg · 12/05/2020 16:22

@RDC2020 Welcome!! I had a copper coil in until last year and it took a while for my cycles to regulate once it came out. I found that odd as there aren’t any hormones in them, but when I saw a doctor they said it’s still a foreign body and it can take time for the body to adjust. So don’t worry at all, things might just take a little longer for a couple of cycles whilst your body gets used to living without it! :)

MyGossip · 12/05/2020 16:23

@Vil10 I've been trying since January. But I say trying, we've not really upped our DTD so to speak. I really don't want it to become regimented if that makes sense? Although I have been gibbing hubby off until my ovulation dates.. contradicted myself a little there 🙈🙈

@RDC2020 So sorry to hear about your wedding!! Something lovely to look forward too after all this I suppose. Good luck over the coming days 🤞🏻 and yes. Googling like mad... googling the same stuff which in turn is driving me crazy!
