Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@Gsr14 I’ve never tried fertility yoga, maybe I should have a look and start that everyday when af is over x

Vil10 · 09/05/2020 19:03

Obviously drinking lots of water is so good for you and is about the only thing I drink daily but I’ve been told that when ovulation testing its recommended not to drink too much before testing, can anyone shed any light on this?x

jules5232 · 09/05/2020 19:10

@Gsr14 I think that's a really great plan actually. Doing one month of 'everything by the book' but knowing ahead of time that if doesnt work then allowing for an easier try next month takes a little of the pressure off. I like it and might try the same!

jules5232 · 09/05/2020 19:15

@Vil10 how I was doing it was drinking a glass when I woke up, less and holding my wee for 4 hours before testing around noon then making up for the loss after. I was/still am a little bit confused about it too. Because while you need it concentrated for the hormone test to be accurate, from what I've read dehydration can hurt cm and keep it from getting to ewcm. And also proper hydration is key for the reproductive system to work well. If anyone else has any tips about what they do thatd be great too!

jbx10 · 09/05/2020 19:23

@gsr14 I really like the idea of that too, might give it ago as well x

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/05/2020 19:45

Well done @gsr14 - I'm so inflexible it's unbelievable! I could probably do with some yoga but it has never been for me (more of a runner and hiker).

I'm sorry to those who are feeling worried or think they have bad news this month.

Is it right that the ovulation test results can literally change within a span of a few hours? When does everyone test for the best indications?

TTCgee · 09/05/2020 20:04

@TheDaydreamBelievers I use the OPK kits and have found it best to test about 5 days before expected ovulation then I try and do 2 x a day for the 2 days before! It's always worked well for me that way! they pick up the spike in LH and for me it usually stays dark for about 2 days before doing back again!

Has anyone tried Evening Primrose oil? I've heard that's good for CM so was going to try that this month with lots of water!

Waiting for AF to show up tomorrow. Even though all the signs are there I'm still hoping it won't - does anyone else have these internal arguments with themselves every month 😂

Vil10 · 09/05/2020 21:17

As I think my af will still be irregular, this time it was 43 days between my last one, does anyone have any advice on when to start using opk? Am I best just starting to test the day after I finish?x

Gsr14 · 09/05/2020 21:23

@TheDaydreamBelievers and @Vil10 I never did yoga before lockdown but it seems to be the only exercise that I can stay consistent with while at home. I watch a woman called Bettina Rae on YouTube who does videos for all different phases of your cycle.

@jbx10 @jules5232 i think it will keep me motivated and just over all more happy during the ttc process if I know there are months where I can let my hair down.

@TTCgee both months I knew af was coming but part of my brain refused to believe it until it was actually here, it’s so annoying what our minds do to us!

@Vil10 i start testing the day after my af has finished just because it gives me something to do and also one of the lovely ladies who was on this thread at the beginning got her bfp after she ovulated 2 days after her af stopped! So I just think it’s better to cover all bases.

Hey everyone. Hope you don’t mind me jumping on here as I’m new to mumsnet.
I recently stopped my pill as me and the OH are TTC. I was just wondering whether we should wait for my first period off the pill or start straight away?
How long did it take for everyone to get their first menstrual period after stopping the pill? I know it can help with dates but I’m keen to start trying!! Thank you all Smile

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/05/2020 21:33

@Squidge12 Hey and welcome Smile.

We seem to be in very similar places. I'm CD 52 after stopping the pill, with no period. Had the withdrawal bleed but nothing since. We are just going for it. May as well practice DTD Grin! shrug

Thanks for the ovulation testing advice @TTCgee @Gsr14, I think I might just start by testing it a lot as I really have no idea.

TTCgee · 09/05/2020 21:40

Hey @Squidge12 I'd say just go for it! I know some people do say to wait for your first 'real' period but I've had friends who just went for it and got pregnant right away so I'm not sure there's much point waiting (although I'm no medical professional 😂)

@TheDaydreamBelievers sorry I should have said - the first month I did it every day from AF so I could work out when(ish) I was ovulating and now I have a better idea I know to just do it a few days before I expect it xxx

jbx10 · 09/05/2020 21:56

@squidge12 hey! I just came off my pill a couple of weeks ago and we've just got to it & started Trying straight away, we didn't really see any reason to wait! Not had my first period yet but been having cramps today xx

Squidge12 · 09/05/2020 22:09

@TheDaydreamBelievers @TTCgee @jbx10 thank you 😊 yeah, I can’t see any harm in starting straight away! I’m so excited to get started on this journey. Xxx

jbx10 · 09/05/2020 22:27

@squidge12 good luck on your journey SmileI've found it really helpful being on this thread, being able to ask questions & read everyone else's experiences xx

KatieG200394 · 09/05/2020 22:49

@Squidge12 I seem to be in a similar position to you, came off my pill very recently and I've had my withdrawal bleed but not my first period yet, we're not waiting either, just going straight for it, but I've started using OPK's just to get more in tune with my body and see what's happening with it (trying to work out when I ovulate) good luck with your ttc journey ☺️ xx

Vil10 · 10/05/2020 00:42

@Gsr14 Thankyou for the yoga tip, that’s something I’m definitely going to start! I’ll start testing the day after my af finishes!x

TTCgee · 10/05/2020 08:19

@Vil10 and anyone else asking about OPKs I thought I'd just put on here how mine went over a few days of testing! You can see the line start to get darker until you get the positive xx

Feel weird asking this to be honest 🙈 but you ladies have all been very helpful, could anyone recommend a conceive friendly lube? I've read that normal lube isn't good to use when trying to conceive xx

Squidge12 · 10/05/2020 09:08

@jbx10 thank you, good luck on yours too. Looking forward to hearing how everyone is getting on Smile
@KatieG200394 Yeah I’ve had my withdrawal bleed but waiting on AF but who knows how long that will take!! I’ve read about OPKs so il probably get some to help... It seems like a lot of people find them helpful. I’ve recently got the pre-seed lube which is fertility friendly... haven’t used it yet though do fingers crossed. Good luck xx

KatieG200394 · 10/05/2020 09:39

@Squidge12 I know, its a waiting game with af really isn't it but hopefully our bodies won't take long to go back to normal, you can get the OPK's pretty cheap on Amazon Smile thank you for the suggestion and thank you, good luck to you too xx

Vil10 · 10/05/2020 11:41

Has anyone else heard that grapefruit juice increases the quantity and texture of CM? I read it somewhere and didn’t quite believe it but when I’ve researched it further, it seems to come up quite a lot x

TTCgee · 10/05/2020 11:53

@Vil10 yes I read that! And apparently Evening primrose oil does too? I'm going to try that this cycle and see if it makes any difference Smile

So, my AF is due today but a no show so far. I'm scared every time I go to the loo it will have arrived! Argh fully expecting AF to turn up but now it's not I'm convincing myself I could be (I'm sure sometimes I just imagine I'm feeling nauseous etc!)

Keep debating doing a test but just don't want to see BFN so putting it off! When do you gals usually test? xx

Aokbaby · 10/05/2020 12:29

@Vil10 I've read that pineapple core is good for cm too, bought some yesterday so will report back any changes this cycle x
