Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@mrskh21 its overwhelming isn't it?

Good luck, I hope it goes well for you. I wasn't sure whether or not to spend the money on the clearblue ones so I just bought some of the cheap ones on Amazon to see what they're like instead so hopefully they'll still be good. If not I think I might try the clearblue ones as I've heard good things xx

KatieG200394 · 04/05/2020 18:44

@JMX10 I've been watching youtube videos like a crazy person and they said femometer and easy@home ones seem to be affordable but still do the trick so I've bought some of those to see if they're any good. Xx

KatieG200394 · 04/05/2020 18:48

@Gsr14 thank you for the tip ☺️ xx

jbx10 · 04/05/2020 19:26

Thank you! I will try those. We always said we’d just go with the flow but now we’ve decided to start TTC it’s just exciting, So I think we will try the ovulation tests xx

jessmcg · 04/05/2020 21:16

So many new people! Welcome to all! The more the merrier Smile.
Glad we’ve got such a lovely group on here xx

mrskh21 · 04/05/2020 22:42

@KatieG200394 I'm totally overwhelmed but just going to try and relax about it (easier said than done though).

I didn't realise they were cheaper packs of ovulation tests 😑 a friend told me she'd used clear blue so I bought a pack off amazon. I'll see how I get on but might be quite expensive testing with these until I find out when I'm ovulating?!

Good luck to everyone too for this cycle xx

jules5232 · 05/05/2020 02:56

I love all the new people coming on! Hopefully we all have a lucky spring and get some positives :)

I dont know about you ladies, but I tend to be a worrier and limit letting myself get excited about this process sometimes because it can be so disheartening each month. Maybe because AF makes me feel dreadful like may it might never happen? But the last couple weeks I have been really trying to let myself be positive and excited(even on the bummer days), because even if it doesnt work for us immediately it most likely will eventually. Ive been letting myself look at baby ideas and nurseries and think about it even though I havent seen a positive. And even when AF showed up today, I think that allowing myself to still be excited helped me not get as upset as I did last month. I dont know if this will help anyone else or literally work for more than one month, but hopefully!

jessmcg · 05/05/2020 07:24

@jules5232 I know exactly what you mean. I’ve been a total negative Nancy this month about it all and frankly it hasn’t helped me at all. It’s just made me really down as I have constantly psyched myself out with fear / thought patterns that it will never happen. I think once AF arrives this month (not trying to be neg, but it will!) I’m going to try a new approach! I’m reading the Impatient Women’s guide to getting pregnant which I’m enjoying too.

@Cococrazy1 welcome to you! TTC can be really tough at times, I know how you’re feeling. Like you, I am a bit of a symptom spotter but all I’ll say is that you’re not out of the game yet! Some people have no symptoms at all until they get their BFP, whereas others have tonnes. Every body and every baby is different xxx

Gsr14 · 05/05/2020 09:50

@jules5232 and @jessmcg I’m usually quite an optimistic, happy go lucky person but there is something about ttc that makes me so neurotic! You are right though, we should let ourselves get excited about it because it will happen eventually and when it does it won’t matter if it took a 2 months or 2 years!
My OH keeps reminding me that we are trying to create a human being so I shouldn’t expect it to be simple and quick 😂

Still no sign of af this morning, boobs still sore, still got cramps and lower back pain and feeling exhausted even though I had a solid 9 hours sleep. More of the waiting game for today!

Got my bloods done so will hopefully know more in a couple days! Although I've just went onto my Flo app and it's changed my period late for date from being 16 days late to 8 days.. wtfffffff 🙈

Vil10 · 05/05/2020 10:42

Hi everyone, I’m now on day 41 since last af, had the smallest amount of spotting once yesterday morning and light cramps/pains but then nothing today!
I’m on my 4th month of coming off the pill and only had af twice after my withdrawal in February!
Frustrated and stressed isn’t the word!!!x

jessmcg · 05/05/2020 10:49

@Gsr14 Me too! It turns me into a psycho. My poor OH, haha.

@mrsgtobe97 do you know when you’ll have the bloods back? I used to use the Flo app but found it a bit all over the place to be honest. Maybe try a new app if it’s not working well for you?

@Vil10 Hang on in there! It can take a while for the body to regulate after coming off the pill. How long were you on it for ? Xx

Vil10 · 05/05/2020 10:58

@mrsgtobe97 I also use flo and find that if I add something or a symptom suddenly everything changes and it’s all over the place, very confusing!! Good luck with your blood results, I have everything crossed for you!

@jessmcg I was on the pill just short of 7 years! I’m trying to relax and not stress but I’m usually so on top of things and organised so when my body isn’t it’s so hard to get to grips with it!xx

KatieG200394 · 05/05/2020 11:02

Has anyone used the Clearblue advanced fertility monitor? If so, what's it like and would you recommend it?
Good luck everyone for this cycle xx

jessmcg · 05/05/2020 11:10

@Vil10 You’re an organiser planner type person like me!! I’ve just started reading The Impatient Woman’s guide to getting pregnant and I’m finding it so good. You should try it maybe? It’s not very long!

@KatieG200394 I’ve not used it but I hear it’s good. I used the Advanced Digital Ovulation Kit that they do and I’m finding it pretty good so far!

KatieG200394 · 05/05/2020 11:35

@jessmcg thank you, we've decided to just take the plunge and buy one (we're really excited to start this whole process) and we've bought the ovulation kit that works with it so fingers crossed it helps ☺️ xx

Vil10 · 05/05/2020 11:37

@jessmcg I definitely am! Comes in handy majority of the time but not a time like this when patience seems to be the key! I’ll have a try at reading that, Thankyou!xx

mrsgtobe97 · 05/05/2020 12:22

@jessmcg the nurse didn't really say just said the reception will have them in the next couple days but unsure if my docter will look at them then phone or what to do with the result either way!

Aokbaby · 05/05/2020 12:25

Hi everyone! First time posting and feel I'm going a bit crazy. Been on the contraceptive pill for around 15 years, came off in December as TTC, feel like I'm not ovulating every month? Had bleeds each month but quite light. Got my hopes up this month as I had pinkish spotting on Friday which would have been about 7days after ovulation (if I even ovulated at all) but very crampy and had a bit of brown spotting yesterday and some pinky/red blood when I went to toilet today , af due on Thursday so pretty sure it's on its way-ahhhh!!
Anyone else been on pill for this length of time? How long did it take for you to start ovulating?

Any advice is much appreciated xx

Cat158 · 05/05/2020 12:45

Hi everyone, sorry I'm crashing this thread too! I received a BFP this morning on 11dpo, but it was using a midstream One Step. Scared to get my hopes up in case it's false (their reputation precedes them!!) It's definitely red - It appeared in about 10/20 seconds - and not one of those ones that you have to squint but only in certain rooms to see.
Has anyone here had experiences of false positives using One Step? Will test again tomorrow morning.

I also had a CP/early miscarriage last month, so not sure if that could mess with things.

mrsgtobe97 · 05/05/2020 13:37

@Cat158 will let you know in a couple days, late for af and been getting faint lines on one step midstream also but negative on every other test. Have you tested on any others. Xxx

Cat158 · 05/05/2020 13:56

@mrsgtobe97 I haven't yet, will try a couple of different ones tomorrow. I've got clearblue, Tesco, one step dips and first response rapid. Couldn't manage to get any frer or superdrug as I think they were panic bought a bit during covid.

Nutella0305 · 05/05/2020 13:58

@jessmcg I've just the ordered the impatient womens guide to getting pregnant . Thanks for the advice ...hoping it helps!!
This month I've felt like I've had no symptoms apart from quite a lot of yellowish mucus sorry for the information but I wondered if this was anything of interest.? Or anyone had experienced anything like this ...also when I lie down at night I get pain in my right hand side like a period pain . Otherwise felt fine . I dont think it's my month somehow . I'm now 8dpo.
Good luck to everyone ....xoxox

Nutella0305 · 05/05/2020 14:02

@Aokbaby
I have been on pill 5 years, not as long as yourself.....but apparnetly whatever length you are on it it doesnt make any difference to your fertility ! So that's positive , and what my doctor told me.
It took 4 weeks for my periods to come back ....and last month I had brown and red spotting and pain 2 days before AF came and sure enough it did come well and truly . I would highly recommend using ovulation strips daily at least twice until u discover the way your cycle works .....i use ovaview strips from Amazon and i used loads but has at least enabled me to establish a pattern now which is encouraging. After coming off pill hormones go crazy so best way is to track in a diary every day what Is happening so we choose the best time to make it happen!!
Hope this helps and best of luck xxxx

jessmcg · 05/05/2020 14:51

@Gsr14 AF just arrived, so I’m out! Have my fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞

At least now I can move on and prepare for the next month. Xx
