Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

Hi ladies.

I hope you are all okay.

I started using ovulation tests for the first time this month and am so happy to say that today I took one which came out positive (ovulation tests that is)! I have very irregular periods and was so worried my body was not ovulating but on day 19, it’s finally happening.

I understand how disheartening it must be to see a BFN but just wanted to say how amazing it is to see our bodies working. I’m sure that when the time is right, we’ll see our BFP but until then, I’m going to try and be excited that’s it’s even a possibility each month.

Sending lots of luck to everyone!

X

@belledell you sound so much in control girl, I wish I had that !
I honestly hope you dont have to see the no's...

@MrsGtobe97 at first look I saw there was something faint on the cassette one, god its so tricky !

have you taken another yet?

@jules5232 is it normal to happen often? I couldnt catch ovulation too in feb (even after testing everyday)
when are you due though?

@jessmcg I think it sounds like a good idea. I ended up listening to my husband and waited till the day of 1st missed period (as per one app - I track in two ;)

Vee89 · 03/05/2020 04:13

Hey @Brooke20 I know what you mean. When I started using OPK, I started from last day of period and was so disheartened when there was no positive till CD14 (I didn't know until then late ovulation is very normal), that's when I realised I get + only after CD16.
Amazing how our bodies work :)

jules5232 · 03/05/2020 04:52

@Vee89 I have no clue. This was my first.konth trying OPKs and I did them by the book but no luck. The band got pretty dark and stayed that way for a bit, but never quite as dark as the control. I estimated it to happen towards the darker line days before getting light again.im really goping next month is a little clearer. I think I'm due on Tuesday and it feels like my AF symptoms are all right on target for then.

Vee89 · 03/05/2020 06:37

@jules5232 and did you check CM and noticed any ovulation cramps?

jessmcg · 03/05/2020 09:43

Hi all. I’ve woken up today after a terrible night’s sleep and wanted to ask the group for a view. I’m somewhere between 10-12 DPO and for the last 4/5 days I’ve had weird, mild cramps, bloating for a couple of days around 5/6 DPO and this morning I went to walk up the stairs to the bathroom and thought I was going to be sick. Feeling really weird. I don’t want to get my hopes up and would be gutted to test and get a BFN so would rather avoid that. Anyone else get these kinds symptoms ever when AF is on its way? Perhaps I’m just having a weird cycle and AF is playing tricks on me? I’m desperately trying to avoid overthinking and symptom spotting but cannot help it. Also had lower back pain but thinking that could just be from exercising xx

jessmcg · 03/05/2020 09:43

Oh and Ive had weird stabbing pains in my boobs!

mrsgtobe97 · 03/05/2020 10:02

@jessmcg I'd definitely take a test if I was you, you will drive yourself nuts over analysing your symptoms today unless you know either way! It could be good news 😊 x

Gsr14 · 03/05/2020 10:05

@jessmcg I’m feeling the same way, yesterday developed lower back pain and has light cramps all day and this morning, no sickness but boobs are sore today and (tmi) but I am soooo gassy!
All these symptoms could definitely be signs on af coming but not due for another week!
So confused 😐

OP posts:
jessmcg · 03/05/2020 10:38

@Gsr14 I’m so confused too. It’s been a weird cycle for me and I just can’t face the BFN. It’d kill me! I’ve also been so gassy for about 4/5 days but I’ve been second guessing myself (maybe I’m this gassy all the time?! Although I really don’t think so? Etc etc). Are you going to test? Just not sure.

@mrsgtobe97 I’m so torn! You’re right though, it could be good news. I worked myself into thinking this way in January though and I’m about 90% sure I had a chemical pregnancy that month. I ate a pizza last night so I’m going to wait for that to wear off (maybe it made me feel sick? Lol!!) and then I might test, but not sooner than Tuesday I don’t think as Clearblue app told me I can’t / shouldn’t test before then xxx

Gsr14 · 03/05/2020 11:04

@jessmcg I’ve decided that I really can’t face a bfn, so I’m going to wait for af to come next Saturday, if it comes before then I know early and if it doesn’t come by Saturday then I will do a test.
I’m starting to believe that all these symptoms are af coming so will go with that and can’t be disappointed then!

@Gsr14 I’m with you! Let’s do this together. AFs are nasty, so let’s presume they’re playing tricks and if they’ve not arrived by the weekend, we can figure it out together and test xx

mrsgtobe97 · 03/05/2020 12:41

My test from this morning, AF still missing. URGHHHHHHH confuses

@mrsgtobe97 So frustrating!!!! Have you ever had AF leaving you hanging like this before? Weird question I know but before lockdown kicked in had you been travelling at all? Apparently if you move across timezones it can mess with your cycle. I was in Japan in February for work and ended up having my first ever 50 day cycle. I’m usually 30ish days bang on every time! Xxx

mrsgtobe97 · 03/05/2020 13:09

@jessmcg no not been anywhere! I came off the pill start of December and had my first natural period 20th March. We haven't had sex in about 3 and a bit weeks so unsure what's going on! Definitely something in that test x

jules5232 · 03/05/2020 14:52

@Vee89 Yeah, I checked CM and my cervix. They all seemed to line up fairly well, and we BD every other day from CD8 to CD20 to cover it. I've never been able to notice ovulation cramps though. Does everyone feel those?

@jessmcg I have had similar symptoms, but AF symptoms are almost exactly the same as pregnancy, so that makes it really tricky. If you can continue to wait to test, then go for it. I always find the anticipation and worry before a test worse than any part of this. Because you might not be at 12DPO, though, I'd suggest against it because you might not show an accurate result either way. Fingers crossed for you!!!

jessmcg · 03/05/2020 15:05

@jules5232 yes I’m not quite sure! I think it’s probably closer to 12DPO than 10 to be honest, but I used the Clearblue digital and they track high fertility and then peak, so you don’t know exactly. FYI - I do get a little ovulation cramp every month. It’s strange - I never noticed them before, but when we started TTC I made a bit of a pledge to get to know my cycle and it’s amazing what you can learn! Without fail, I can now feel myself ovulating when I do. It’s crazy.
Ive had bouts of nausea throughout the day today which is really strange. I don’t normally get this ahead of AF, but you never know. There’s always a first time! Weirdly, I’m also getting a lot of saliva in my mouth when I’m feeling a bit nauseous? Then it goes away. Odd. Anyway, we carry on!

Gsr14 · 03/05/2020 16:00

I’m pretty sure I’m out the race this month, today I have cramps and reallyyy bad back lower pain. Definitely feel like I’m coming on af 😩

Hi girls,
I am completely new to mums net, but as me and my partner have just started trying for our first child I thought why not come on here and get some advice and share experiences with women doing the same thing!
I took my last pill on the 31st jan, had a withdrawal bleed on the 4th Feb, then had no natural period until 13th March which only lasted 4 days, I then had another 4 day period on the 25th March but haven’t had anything since. I am trying not to stress as it hasn’t really been that long but I’m stressing because if I don’t know when my period is going to be how am I supposed to know when I am ovulatingConfused I used ovulation sticks last month when I thought my period would be in a regular cycle but obviously never got a positive!! I was just wondering if anybody else had experience a missed before in their first few months of coming off contraception??x

jessmcg · 03/05/2020 16:50

@Gsr14 Oh no! I’m so sorry. Are you sure? Xx

jessmcg · 03/05/2020 21:26

Very sad as I just realised I might be nauseous as I recently started taking Evening Primrose Oil. I really hope that’s not the reason, but it’s possible. I started taking it as apparently it’s good for CM. Does anyone take it and has anyone reacted to it? Serves me right for symptom spotting...!

Mrsahs91 · 03/05/2020 22:27

Hi everyone ,
I’m also in the same boat ttc for 1 month been watching this thread im in cycle 2 as af showed up 2 days ago so thought I’d join in as it can be a lonely time not being able to talk to others about it and especially under the circumstances and have enjoyed seeing some bfp’s in this group so hoping to join in with that one day !

BelleDell · 03/05/2020 22:34

@jessmcg - if it is the cause of nausea it doesn't mean this isn't your month. I hadn't read about primrose oil, it is supposed to assist the CM to be more inviting, so to speak.

@Mrsahs91 welcome!! What day of your cycle are you and when might you start testing?

jules5232 · 04/05/2020 03:50

@Vil10 and @Mrsahs91 welcome!! Its been really nice having this space with other newbies that are early with all this together.

Im officially out this month. Started spotting tonight so AF will show tomorrow (how my cycle always works). Partially relieved since last month I waited so long for it to finally show. Ready to get it on with and hopefully Ill have a better time reading my OPKs next month.

@jessmcg do you have to take it everyday? Just because that might be making you naseous doesnt mean you're out!

jessmcg · 04/05/2020 07:29

@Vil10 and @Mrsahs91 welcome!! It’s really nice being part of a group like. We are all in this together!

@BelleDell @jules5232 I was meant to take it everyday, yes! But I decided to stop it as of this morning (had only taken it for two days) and I’m going to see if the nausea goes away. The benefits aren’t massive to be honest, it is just meant to help CM, so I just thought it might help. Process of elimination, I’ll stop taking it and see what happens now! So we shall see. Slept terribly again last night as had weird aches and cramps, so let’s see if AF arrives.
