Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@Pol96 welcome to the chat! I know the feeling of hassling the other half. That’s why I started the post originally because I think he was sick of me going on about ovulation tests etc.
Are you doing anything to track your cycle at the moment?

Pol96 · 29/04/2020 19:43

@Gsr14 thank you! Yeah I think these chats are a great idea!
I'm doing bbt (started halfway through my last cycle-we weren't particularly trying as I started tracking late, I know I ovulated as temp was much higher than it is now and dropped when af arrived) and have been using opks since cd9 and Temps this cycle. Unfortunately as my cycles aren't particularly regular I'm just having to use opks daily so we hopefully don't miss it..

Brooke20 · 29/04/2020 21:16

@Gsr14 thanks so much for the advise on testing. Excited to get started and get to know my cycles better.

Really nice to know that others are in the same boat and that pregnancy isn’t as easy as we were once led to believe! Looking forward to checking in and seeing how everyone is getting on x

Gsr14 · 30/04/2020 06:35

@Brooke20 I was so naive to think it would happen straight away as you said, our whole lives we are told that if you have sex just once without protection you’ll get pregnant!

OP posts:
BelleDell · 30/04/2020 07:01

@Gsr14 ... I know the feeling. We take morning after pill genuinely thinking we'll be pregnant, but was never told there were parts of the month it'll be impossible. So expensive ha! I'm sorry it's not your month. Think forward to ovulation - I haven't even tested and I'm counting down to then. Keep us all posted xx

Vee89 · 30/04/2020 07:17

@Gsr14 I know what you mean, the days there is less work I drive myself crazy.
@jessmcg welcome! Sorry I am catching up now. I used to be 28 too but travelling between Nov-feb made some cycles stretch up to 31 days.
I am CD 28 today, all PMS since yesterday (nausea, headache) but no AF.
How are all of you doing? @jules5232 @BelleDell

Vee89 · 30/04/2020 07:23

@Brooke20 welcome ! I started using OPKs since feb and realised I ovulate on CD17 (although only 3 months data to analyse this). I also kind of felt the day of ovulation cramp this month. Reading "Taking charge of your fertility" to make sense of all of this.
@Nutella0305 I have been taking folic & iron since I met my Obgyn for pre-conception counselling. I have read good reviews on pregnacare too.

jessmcg · 30/04/2020 08:01

@Vee89 Hi! How are you finding that book? I have been thinking about buying for a while but haven’t taken the plunge. I feel like I’ve got so many unanswered questions so it could help? I just find this whole process so disappointing each month, but really hoping this month might be different 🤞

Vee89 · 30/04/2020 12:14

@jessmcg It's not great, but good. I read tons of good reviews on the forums. I finished reading "impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant", that was fun to read. This is a bit like textbook and hence can't read more than 4 pages at a time :)

jessmcg · 30/04/2020 12:24

@Vee89 good to know! Did you get decent enough tips from the impatient book? Maybe I’ll go that route instead.. it certainly sounds like me, for one xx

jules5232 · 30/04/2020 14:02

It's so nice having so many new people in one thread. My DH thinks all of this will be so simple and doesnt understand the feelings that come along with it, so it's nice to have others with all the same thoughts and questions.

@Vee89 so far so good! My app wants me to take my first test this weekend but I might wait until the end of the week. I'm kinda nervous. I should be about 10DPO now, no symptoms yet except the normal luteal phase changes. I was handling the wait fairly well but I keep having these vivid BFP dreams and they are making me antsy now. Anyone else have these??

jessmcg · 30/04/2020 14:52

@jules5232 I SO know how you’re feeling on both counts. I’ve had loads of weird dreams recently about things like getting pregnant or having a baby, but having been through that and the 2WW a few times before, I’m desperately trying to not let it get to me. I’m blaming Corona lockdown! Apparently loads of people are having strange, vivid dreams, so I’m jumping on that as the reason and trying not to let myself get hopeful in any way. I’m also feeling pretty weird this cycle - I had bad cramps a few days ago, but I’m choosing not to think of that as anything apart from cramps. And I’m so tired. Just blaming the potential arrival of AF...

BelleDell · 30/04/2020 15:12

It's so so hard not to symptom spot isn't it. I spent a month with symptoms I never get before AF, wasn't trying so thought must be pregnant, but nope. No idea what body was up to. When does everyone start testing? Excited and nervous to follow with you all. AF due on 9 May for me so a while yet. Want to try not to test until day before xx

Nutella0305 · 30/04/2020 16:01

@BelleDell
I so know how that feels !!! Last month I had all the symptoms and it was nothing...I was more than disappointed . It's such a nerve wracking time each month u get Hope's up and then nothing happens but hopefully soon our day will come!!!my AF is due 10th so day after you ! Nice to have others going through the tww at same time . I'm trying to keep myself busy baking etc so I don't drive myself crazy!

Nutella0305 · 30/04/2020 16:04

@jules5232
My husband is the same, he cant quite get why I'm so worked up about it all and thinks course it will happen after a few tries. I think hes beginning to realise it's not actually that simple as it may be perceived to be . It's nice we can communicate on here and give each other the confidence and encouragement we so need to help us achieve our goals! Lots of luck gals xx

Gsr14 · 30/04/2020 16:14

@jules5232 and @jessmcg I’ve been having weird dreams too, I think it’s because having a baby is on my mind 24/7 at the moment so leaks into my dreams!

I am not having a good day today :( I’m 8 dpo and waiting to test on Monday but just have had the most overwhelming negative feeling all day that it’s going to be bad news and can’t seem to think positively at all.
Does anyone else get into this slump?

OP posts:
jules5232 · 30/04/2020 16:26

@Gsr14 Yes, I definitely do. I'll got a few days so positive and no worries, but then the anxiety of it all kicks in one day. It doesnt help that the closer we get to test time our hormones are all over the place. I would say though that you should be right around implantation right now though so try to keep your stress at a minimum if possible. Theres nothing we can do at this point but to wait it out and try to keep our sanity!
@Nutella0305 Same! We BD once and then he starts saying I've got a kid in there. Like he has zero clue 😂

@jessmcg I just looked up the pandemic dreaming thing- that's wild! I had no idea. Makes me feel a little better though, because they had me focusing on it when I'm trying to forget alll about what day it is.

jessmcg · 30/04/2020 16:45

@Gsr14 I know exactly how you feel. I’m also having a really down day today. I can’t focus and just feel incredibly down. I typically get it if I feel we’ve had a month where we’ve really tried and then I almost gear myself up to prepare for a BFN and then get really bummed out. Hard to explain! The whole TTC journey is really emotionally and physically tiring as well. It can take a toll if you’ve been trying for longer than a month or so!
Be kind to yourself - if you can be selfish and do something you like to do to relax / distract yourself then definitely do. I’m going to have a bath and make a massive bowl of pasta lol xx

Gsr14 · 30/04/2020 17:24

It’s so nice having people that understand, my partner also doesn’t really get it, I think he thinks that because we did everything right this month it’s an automatic bfp. @jessmcg I think my bad mood is definitely what you said, me just making myself believe it’s going to be a bfn as self preservation perhaps.

@jules5232 I’m going to go on a nice long walk now the weather has cleared up and watch a cheesy film tonight to try and end today more positively, and yes will try to keep as calm as possible over the next few days through 🤞🏼implantation

OP posts:
BelleDell · 30/04/2020 20:37

@Gsr14 I'm 8DPO too. Are you testing Monday and each day thereafter until AF day? Or do you think you'll know outcome Monday? Fingers crossed :) xx

Nutella0305 · 30/04/2020 23:16

@jessmcg thinking of you so much , what you said about it being a really physically and emotionally draining time is so true. It feels like all that effort , concentration ,planning and tracking has gone to waste ...but actually its preparing our bodies into a routine which I'm sure will develop into something special soon ...Dont think I've cried as much as I did last month after my AF came again . And the wait can be demoralising and make you feel flat ....especially right now when we cant be with friends and family as much we dont have as much to take our minds off it . We've had 3 months trying now and no results but we cannot give in , miracles happen and they will happen to all of us in sure if we've been trying for 1 month or 1 year and more it will be our special day soon xx we are in this together xo let's hope it's a happy friday . Best wishes to all

Nutella0305 · 30/04/2020 23:32

@gsr14
U referred to feeling its gonna be bad news and feeling down about it , I'm sure so many women feel this way each month and dont discuss it I've instantly felt better since chatting about it and realising we are not alone in the TTC struggle!!! Thinking of you lots and hoping it's your time soon too x I also find it super hard that a lot of my friends and relatives got pregnant as planned or before they planned even , & moan about the baby being up in the night or that they wish they had longer without children but the reality is that so many of us actually struggle on a day to day basis that we dont yet have the children so I think if people were more sensitive around us it would help xo
Also question for you all out there ...in the tww do u cut back strenuous exercise ? I'm not sure what to do and google always has too much info so rather feedback from you all pls.... I normally do 20 mins running on the treadmill every day, but dont want to do anything that could interfere with implantation if it was in progress..... I still do walking and cycling but ....be glad to hear all your thoughts on this xxx feels like 2 weeks of month I'm really good at daily exercise and the other 2 I'm really bad !!! Lol

jessmcg · 01/05/2020 07:10

@Nutella0305 Thank you for your words, they instantly made me feel better! Had a bit of a low day yesterday and was crying in bed last night for no reason. I can feel AF is on its way, so it got me a bit down in the dumps.

Re: exercise. I actually asked my doctor friends about this as I got TONNES of conflicting information about it. If you are a regular runner, you are fine to continue, but just be mindful if you are banging out hours of running at like 15.0 that you might be overdoing it! But If you’re running to get your heart rate up and aren’t totally smashing it, then that’s more than fine. Apparently it’s all about what our bodies are used to. I’ve been doing short spin classes most days at home on the bike. A few months ago I totally stopped doing them, thinking it was better to take it slow, but actually I realised it’s better for my mental and physical health to stay active, so I’m back on it now and much happier. Xx

Vee89 · 01/05/2020 07:11

@jessmcg the impatient one was good to read, some references to the studies were good. But it doesn't reach you that we'll about taking note of the signs like how "taking charge.." does.

So weird about the dream thing. I have been having these strange dreams which make me wake up (whereas usually I am a deep sleeper)
I am CD 29 today & 12DPO and not at all irritated like the usual PMS days.
If AF doesn't turn up today, I am testing tomo morning. Can't wait till 4th, sorry about ditching... Want to find out what's going on ! Confused
