Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

Hi all - can I join this thread? Just saw it and need some people to share with! TTC and have been trying now on and off since September last year. Had a few months where we didn’t bother for various reasons, but really hoping this month is our month. 🤞 I’m 5 or 6 DPO and I’m so bloated and feel crampy, but worried that my body is playing tricks on me and it’s just AF planning an arrival, although only technically due on Friday or Saturday... hmmm...

MintGreenLife · 27/04/2020 16:51

Hi @Gsr14

Thanks for your reply :) brilliant, I will have a look at those on Amazon. To be honest you're probably right - the best way to understand is to just start using them, I'm useless at trying to work things out by reading etc x

Gsr14 · 27/04/2020 16:52

@jessmcg welcome to the thread! Welcome to the overthinking all the symptoms club 😂

I’m on 5 dpo too but normally have a 29 day cycle not due af until a couple of weeks.
When are you thinking of testing?

OP posts:
jessmcg · 27/04/2020 17:05

@Gsr14 Thank you! 😁
I’m just not sure - I ovulated late this month, so I’m due AF on Saturday but I suspect everything might overrun a bit. Every time I have taken a pregnancy test in the past I’ve felt so foolish in the past and a bit stupid when I’ve got a negative result. I’m also just not sure when to start given my cycle might be a bit longer than normal again this month? I suppose I could test on Saturday potentially? What are you going to do?

It’s so annoying, I used to be 30 days every month but then I went travelling for work and my cycle went bonkers - had a 45 day cycle. So no idea what will happen this month as my body attempts to go back to normal!

jessmcg · 27/04/2020 17:12

@Gsr14 Just read up on it. I think I’ll start testing in a week potentially....

Gsr14 · 27/04/2020 17:26

@jessmcg I’m testing in exactly a week on May 4th so you could test around the same time?
I haven’t done a pregnancy test but last month waiting until af cane rather than testing because I couldn’t face the disappointment of a big fat negative. This month i just feel like fuck it, don’t think I could wait any longer.

My cycles had always been really regular and consistently 29/30 days but in the last 4 months I’ve had 23 days, 26 days, 33 days! I put it down to stress because of all the corona stuff going on!

OP posts:
jessmcg · 27/04/2020 17:49

@Gsr14 I’ll do that then. That makes total sense!
Yeah, I’ve not done a test since January and that absolutely broke me, but think I’m ready to test again this month. Not sure why! Glad I’ve got someone who will do it on the same day now 🙂

mrsgtobe97 · 27/04/2020 18:01

Ordered more tests today so waiting till they come, so confused though 😫 has anyone had bad experiences with FRER? Took one about over a week and a bit ago and was negative however I'm reading conflicting things that they aren't more sensitive than the one step 10miu ones and the sensitivity can vary and can see no confirmation on the leaflet etc. I've been getting faint positives on one steps for about two weeks now. Also gotten a cold sore today, first one in about 12 years so unsure if it's a good sign or no 🙈 xx

jessmcg · 27/04/2020 18:44

@mrsgtobe97 My best friend actually had a false positive with an FRER just over a year ago, but she then went to test again to be sure the next day with another brand and got a BFN which cleared things up, but obviously really broke her heart. Other than that, heard no other complaints.. forgive my ignorance but what is 10 miu?

jessmcg · 27/04/2020 18:45

@mrsgtobe97 that cold sore is definitely of interest. Would there be any other reason you might have got one? Are you super run down / tired / have you had any bugs recently?

jules5232 · 27/04/2020 19:41

@MintGreenLife I would also suggest trying out the ovulation tests just to get a good sense of how to use them and also continue to track alongside CM. I dont temp or anything, but knowing an approximate date that ovulation would be is helpful for learning your own cycle and personally helps me feel a little more in control about the whole thing. They have a little bit of a learning curve, so starting now will get you ready for when you're more ready.
@jessmcg welcome! My cycles the last couple months have been wonky as well. It's making it really hard to know what's going on!

mrsgtobe97 · 27/04/2020 20:18

@jessmcg it's like 10 hcg thingy's, I dunno how to explain it properly 🙈 but all HPT have certain sensitivities i.e 10, 15, 25, 50 etc and FRER is meant to be something like 6.3 and the IC I have are 10. So I got a faint BFP on a test which is meant to be less sensitive than one I got a negative on 🙈 probably explained that horribly! Yeah the cold sore is a weird one, haven't had one since I was a child and been ill / stressed plenty of times and never gotten one until now! 😬

mrsgtobe97 · 27/04/2020 20:19

@jessmcg but don't feel sick or anything just now, also had loads of spots around my jawline too!

BelleDell · 27/04/2020 20:34

Hi all
I'm 31, TTC cycle 1 first baby.

Would love to join this thread, it seems to be a very successful one ha!

Congratulations to all your BFPs ladies.
I'm currently 5DPO and trying not to symptom spot.

Gsr14 · 27/04/2020 21:22

@mrsgtobe97 I reckon the cold sore and the spots are definitely a good sign, both flare up due to hormones!

@BelleDell hi there! I think a few of us on here are around 5 dpo (including me) so welcome to the club 😊

I’ve had slightly sore boobs today and have been thinking about it none stop, it’s sooo hard not to symptom watch!!

OP posts:
jules5232 · 27/04/2020 22:31

It is soo hard. Not to mention that you can look up any symptom online and there will be an article mentioning that it's a good and bad pregnancy symptom. Never helps but impossible to avoid entirely!

jessmcg · 28/04/2020 07:14

@mrsgtobe97 Wow that sounds complex! But everything crossed for you. You’ve got some positive signs!!

@BelleDell Welcome to the club! I think I’m about 5DPO too and I’m 32. Have you been TTC for long? I’ve had a couple of months where we’ve not tried, but we’ve been going since last September. Been a bit of a bumpy road trying to figure out how to get it right, target the right days, etc but hoping this month could be a good one for us. Then again, don’t want to get my hopes up!!

jessmcg · 28/04/2020 07:46

@jules5232 Hi! Thanks so much. It’s good to be on here. I’ve found the last few months pretty tough as all my friends got pregnant v quickly and I think I just need a bit of a support network! Annoyingly though I’ve just had a few weird cycle months which is just not helping me feel like I’ve got this at all. Am trying not to overthink this one - anything strange I’m feeling I’m putting down to AF arriving rather than pregnancy so as to not get my hopes up.

BelleDell · 28/04/2020 08:05

@jessmcg - we've been more relaxed and open to it since January, but this month is the first TTC tracking fertile window etc and DTD more. So it feels like first month. Day 6PO for us now! Getting there haha. Do you use ovulation sticks and track periods etc?

jessmcg · 28/04/2020 08:41

@BelleDell When are you thinking of testing?
I’m going to test on Monday I think. Yep, been using the ovulation sticks for a few months now and think they’re really useful! I’m on my first month of Clearblue Advanced Digital and really liking it, so let’s see.... Are you using them?

BelleDell · 28/04/2020 12:14

@jessmcg .. dare I say it, I am planning on waiting for a missed AF. I had a month where I had all kinds of symptoms and AF still came. Tested loads, can't explain the symptoms at all. So am hoping to be disciplined and wait for AF.. that way less time to start trying again? Make logical sense?

Haha AF due 8 May. When is yours? When will you test? We may be testing around the same time :).

BelleDell · 28/04/2020 12:15

*Ive just re read you're testing on Monday, eek fingers crossed. Hate the feeling it's like getting exam results! Hope you pass ;)

Gsr14 · 28/04/2020 12:40

@BelleDell I’m also testing on Monday!
Last month I waited for af because I couldn’t face the disappointment of a negative test but I think that made it a worse.

OP posts:
jessmcg · 28/04/2020 13:52

@BelleDell I’ve been through that, you’re not alone. In January, I had such strong symptoms and AF came anyway. Cannot explain it at all! I never get sore boobs before AF and I had two weeks of agony. So bizarre.

Think you’re going to be on the same timeline as me and @Gsr14! I want to feel I’m control this month, hence testing ahead of any disappointment from AF...

BelleDell · 28/04/2020 14:19

@Gsr14 @jessmcg ... you've both persuaded me. I think I'll test day before she's due. Yes those same symptoms with no explanation as not normal at all. I put it down to fertilisation but no implantation? Completely made that up though Xx
