Hi there,
I’m very new to mumsnet and in my first month of trying to conceive.
All the info out there is really overwhelming and just wanted to start a thread for the people in the same boat.

@sophie1301 press the attached button under the text box, it’s a paper clip in a circle :)

Just finished our first month of trying and after 5 days of spotting (seriously, wtf?!) my period came Sad I know it was wishful thinking to hope we'd do it the first month, but after being told for years to ALWAYS USE PROTECTION or else you WILL DEFINITELY GET PREGNANT, it's a bit disappointing when you've been bonking for a month and you get nothing!

Gsr14 · 17/04/2020 15:24

@Nicolamca I hear you girl! I was really hoping it would happen first time round (last month) as I’ve always been so scared of getting pregnant my whole adult life and then nothing. Glad I’ve got someone in the same boat for cycle 2!

@gsr14 yes!! Fingers crossed for round two aye 😂

Katbaby · 17/04/2020 16:35

Hi so I caved and did a test, seems to be a faint positive and its not just my eyes creating a line as hubby could see it too.. Stressing though as im spotting red blood.. Can't get excited as I think I might be losing it if I'm bleeding? Or wouldnt it of had a line if it was already going? I've really messed with my head here

Nic2908 · 17/04/2020 16:52

@Katbaby just breath... the more stresses you are getting the harder it will be to think rationally. They do say it's normal to bleed a little through pregnancy from what I have gathered on here.... its doesnt necessarily mean you are losing anything. Put down the test and take a walk outside with your loved one and then test again tomorrow. I would say test the day after but that's never going to happen. You have a line.... that's great... focus on that. Can you post a picture??

Hogrider · 17/04/2020 18:22

@Katbaby Try and relax! Please post a photo? 😃

Katbaby · 17/04/2020 18:53

I'll try and attach but the photo isn't great 🤔 you cant even see the line in the pic I don't think 😒 haha went on a 2 hour walk just now. Has cleared my head, also happy that there's nothing in my panty liner when I got back... Could there be hope

Pic is terrible.. Just looked at test in the bin and I can see it on test but not pic

Gsr14 · 17/04/2020 18:55

@Katbaby I can definitely see a faint line!

Try to relax this weekend and test again on Sunday (if you can resist temptation to do it earlier).

There is definitely still hope!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Thank you @Gsr14! Yes I'm hoping it's so faint as it's early days and id had a cuppa tea and lots of water after a home workout so thinking my pee will have been super diluted. My plan (may not happen) is to test again with fmu Sunday

Nicolamca · 17/04/2020 20:08

@Gsr14 fingers crossed for round 2 aye!!

jules5232 · 18/04/2020 02:37

Hoping I can join in with the newbies group too! We are into our 2nd month of trying and currently on CD11. I'm 31 and am usually pretty regular but last month's work changes threw me off so I started using OPKs this week.
With all this extra time at home I have also started making smoothies with fruits and veggies, and exercising a bit more. I dont drink caffeine except maybe 1 half caf once a week but it's hard to not have some wine on quarantine! Ive kinda always figured I would be one of the women that would be trying for awhile so I am just doing what I can and hoping for the best. Anyone else going into this process feeling this way??

MrsEmilyB · 18/04/2020 08:02

@Nicolamca - totally feel ya! We also just finished cycle #1 and I've been spotting for days! I never Ever spot.

But, it's getting heavier today and AF is definitely making an appearance. So that's me out for baby 1,cycle 1

Nicolamca · 18/04/2020 08:53

@MrsEmilyB it's weird isn't it! Good luck in round 2, I'm in there with you SmileDaffodil

MrsEmilyB · 18/04/2020 08:59

@Nicolamca - it's so disheartening isn't it. It feels like so many people on this thread caught first time around. I've been feeling like a failure the last few days. I know it's silly, but that's probably the AF hormones being annoying.

At least I'll enjoy a glass of wine tonight for our family "pub" quiz!

Are you doing anything differently this cycle?

Nicolamca · 18/04/2020 09:07

@MrsEmilyB it's so disheartening, and I was absolutely convinced that there was something wrong with me! But I do think that first timers are very very lucky, and hopefully my turn will comeSmile we're going to use OPKs this month as my cycle has always been all over the place so would be good to know what the golden time is!
Pub quiz sounds fab - we did one last weekend with my in laws, it was really good fun!! Enjoy Grin

MrsEmilyB · 18/04/2020 09:13

@Nicolamca - our turn WILL come. Maybe next month we'll be lucky. Do you know when you're predicted to ovulate? My app tells me likely around the 4th May. Do you measure BBT? I find that's really helped me to get to know my cycle as well as OPKs. Maybe we'll be in the 2WW club together!

We are going to eliminate alcohol, cut down on sugar and carbs etc this month - really clean up our diet. I'm going to stop my impact exercise during my fertile window and then increase pilates instead.

We do a pub quiz every Saturday! It's great fun. We are hosting this week! Quizmasters 🤓

Nicolamca · 18/04/2020 09:27

@MrsEmilyB fingers crossed!! No, GP just said to me to start trying every 2-3 days which is what we did. I've got the Flo app and we tried during what Flo thought was my ovulation day but I'm not totally convinced it was.
My app is saying 25th of April as my next day so I'll see what my OPK says on that day. Cleaning up diets is probably a good idea, but got such a sweet tooth that it's really hard 😂
We've got our next quiz tomorrow - MIL and FIL are the quiz masters and very much into golf so I need to brush up on anything golfy before tomorrow I bet 😂

Gsr14 · 18/04/2020 09:53

@Nicolamca @MrsEmilyB I’m on cycle 2 now and due to ovulate on April 25th as well! So we might be doing the tww together 😊

I was really hoping I would be one of the lucky ones on the first try and also convinced myself there must be something wrong but you’ve got to remember that people usually try for a good few month before it happens for them.

I’m tracking BBT this month as well as OPK tests. Now on cycle day 9 but trying to dtd with my partner every other day anyway just to make sure.

Glad the 3 of us are in this together this month, I also love a good quiz and a glass of wine. I cut out alcohol and coffee since I started trying last month and have been way healthier with my diet the last couple of weeks, I might try Pilates, can you recommend a good YouTube channel?

Morning girls 🙂
I'm feeling much more level headed today. Tmi warning Red spotting continued lightly through the night but only appears on tp not in knickers. Seems heavy on tp but surely if it was heavy would appear in pants too. Held off testing this morning will see if any progression on my faint line tomorrow

Welcome @jules5232 good way to think wish I was as rational as you!

Nicolamca · 18/04/2020 10:10

@Gsr14 @MrsEmilyB ahhh fingers crossed for us!! 🤞🏻
I've not cut out alcohol or caffeine yet, I'm not a big drinker but seeing as I won't be able to have it for 9 months I might as well start to cut it out now. I think I'm going to struggle without coffee more than anything!!
I've bought some resistance bands and started doing exercises with them, but would also be interested in doing some other exercise. Fully admit that I hate exercise, so anyone got any recommendations for a programme to ease myself into it?! I had an operation on my foot in January which I'm still recovering from so can't do anything high impact like running or skipping.

MrsEmilyB · 18/04/2020 10:40

@Nicolamca - don't forget your ovulation test will show positive 24-72 hours before your ovulation day, rather than on the day of ovulation! I start testing once a day at about 5pm for the week before I'm due to ovulate. As the line gets darker and I'm approaching ovulation day I do it every 4 hours between 12 and 8pm until I reach peak, then I know I'll ovulate in around 24 hours.

@Gsr14 - I went to 3 classes a week prior to lockdown (1 pilates, 1 toning, 1 cardio) so I've signed up online with the same lady who runs our classes. It's brilliant! £15 a month for her online classes which are saved to her website, or £20 for that plus her live timetable. We've just done a dance/combat/HIIT one this morning considering I'm not going to get a BFP this cycle, so I'm getting in my cardio whilst I can. Her pilates is amazing and I've asked her to put together some fertility pilates too as she has done pre/post natal in the past so it's going to focus on getting blood to your pelvis! I'd highly recommend her. She always gives low impact options on her classes too!

I used to hate exercise until classes! Honestly I was the laziest person. But she has lovely soundtracks and keeps you motivated.

@Katbaby keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you lovely 💕

Katbaby · 18/04/2020 11:03

@MrsEmilyB thank you, gonna be a long day of knicker checking today haha!

@Gsr14 I've been following a YouTube channel called lifefullofzest she's been doing a free 6 week lockdown programme containing different pilates and hiit workouts I like her

Gsr14 · 18/04/2020 11:06

@Katbaby I’m keeping my fingers crossed too! Think it’s positive that the bleeding isn’t heavy, what ever the outcome though we are all here for you!

@MrsEmilyB fertility Pilates! Never heard of that but am going to look into it now, won’t do any harm will it. Before lockdown I went to the gym to do circuits twice a week and did climbing at my local rock climbing centre. Found it hard to motivate to go for a run or exercise in the house but I suppose if Pilates has the added bonus that it will help with the baby making that will help my motivation!!

I’ve been testing twice a day, at 11.30am and then again at 7, when it starts getting darker do you think I should add another test in around 3pm? Thoughts?
