Hi everyone who read this! My typical cycle is 34-37 days long but everyone I talk to seems to have shorter cycles. I'm looking for others like myself who have long cycles and are ttc :) we are trying for our first baby x

@ Pol96 I think I might get that one for my next cycle. Mine was a cheap one from Amazon and it's not very good - maybe that's why i'm getting such high temps! Ha. It also beeps like crazy!

Too easy to spend a lot of money of all of this isn't it.. :)

Pol96 · 06/05/2020 12:18

@fifi1989 honestly your Temps are fine! The thermometer I have is only £10 of amazon atm, it does beep like 4/5 times when it's done taking temp and you do need to use your phone or something to be able to read the temp as its not back-lit..

wannabe123 · 06/05/2020 14:04

So I thought I would try doing OPKs this month. My last cycle was 58 days and I came off the pill after 9 years at the start of January. I was going to wait a bit to start the OPKs but yesterday thought I'd give one a go and wasn't expecting anything as it was CD13. However, I got a faint line and today got a darker one - not at peak yet though. Does this mean my cycles might be starting to sort themselves out? Or does it mean I have a long luteal phase? Or does it mean I should just calm down and not get so excited!?

Pol96 · 06/05/2020 14:18

@wannabe123 keep testing twice a day and see.. My last cycle was 43days and didn't ovulate till CD 30ish not 100% sure as started testing after oeak/temp rise.. This month I ovulated CD 18 Confirmed by opk and temp rise so you could be having a 'normal' cycle this month.. Hopefully your tests will continue to get darker until you get your peak

Runnergirl1 · 06/05/2020 14:48

@fifi1989 - that’s very reassuring to hear, thank you. I’ve been abit worried tbh thinking what if there is something wrong but I have to relax and take it as it comes. Hopefully this cycle will be better and I can get a positive opk and test

Suki2020 · 06/05/2020 16:16

I’ve been doing OPKs for the last three days, never used these before and I’m already confused. I think today’s line looks darker but the app says 0 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pol96 · 06/05/2020 16:18

@Suki2020 maybe try a different light, the background looks darker than the other 2 photos, did you use the torch function? The line does look darker to me

fifi1989 · 06/05/2020 16:32

@Suki2020 the line from today looks darker to me too. I sometimes find the Femometer readings a bit random, so tend to take a 'normal' photo of it on my phone as well for comparison (not using the app).

I've booked a phone call with my GP next Wednesday. Hopefully she will suggest blood tests etc when possible so I can find out whether I am actually ovulating or not. PCOS diagnosis wouldn't be ideal obviously, but I would rather know so we can get the ball rolling!

Suki2020 · 06/05/2020 16:59

Thanks ladies.
Can they test for PCOS through a blood test at the doctors? I’ve had to be referred to the hospital to check to see if I have it as all my bloods came back normal so they are going to give me a scan to check PCOS. Fingers crossed you get some answers though hun, it’s horrible worrying isn’t it. Even if they do say PCOS so many women have babies naturally now a days so you’ll be fine whatever they say, it will happen for you I’m sure.

fifi1989 · 06/05/2020 17:12

@Suki2020 No I don't think they can, but I think they can measure progesterone levels so hopefully will be able to confirm whether I'm actually ovulating or not. I guess more tests/scans for PCOS is the next step if it turns out I'm not ovulating despite positive OPKs and temp rises.

Diagnosing PCOS when symptoms vary and can't be confirmed via one standardised test is so tricky! My friend has it (main symptom was no periods at all) and it took her 2,5 years to conceive but eventually it happened naturally without fertility treatment. A long time to wait, but that does give me some hope :)

xoJellyBean · 07/05/2020 11:45

@Jaydaebee any more updates??

OP posts:
Jaydaebee · 07/05/2020 12:12

@xoJellyBean unfortunately I went to the hospital this morning after heavily bleeding yesterday and today to find out I’ve had a complete miscarriage at 7 weeks :( but hope everyone gets their babies 💜

Pol96 · 07/05/2020 12:31

@Jaydaebee I'm so sorry xx

fifi1989 · 07/05/2020 12:39

@Jaydaebee I am so sorry to hear that. All the best to you. xx

Runnergirl1 · 07/05/2020 13:39

@Jaydaebee - so sorry to hear this news. Take care of yourself x

Suki2020 · 07/05/2020 13:45

@Jaydaebee oh no, I’m so sorry hun, sending hugs

Pol96 · 07/05/2020 16:05

@fifi1989 how are your Temps now?

Anyone in the TWW?

fifi1989 · 07/05/2020 17:04

@Pol96 37.1 this morning but I am having all of my usual PMS symptoms. I think my thermometer is dodgy. How about you?

Pol96 · 07/05/2020 17:21

@fifi1989 36.63 today so slightly higher than any of my previous post ovulation Temps this cycle.. I'm really scared for it to drop! I've also got sore boobs but I tend to always get that after ovulation anyway and at 4dpo it's not because I'm pregnant!
Hopefully your pms signs aren't actually pms signs! The leaflet that came with my thermometer says 35.7-37.3 is considered normal. I'm trying not to symptom spot anything really and when I do I keep telling myself it's nothing.

fifi1989 · 07/05/2020 17:53

@ Pol96 It all sounds like good signs to me though! :)
I'm on CD34 today, how about you?

Pol96 · 07/05/2020 18:25

@fifi1989 CD 22 for me.. Having a "normal" cycle this month.. Haven't had one of those for over a year! So hoping that's a good sign too! When do you think you'll be testing?

xoJellyBean · 07/05/2020 20:33

@Jaydaebee sooo sorry to hear this :( hope you are ok.

Jaydaebee · 07/05/2020 20:56

Thanks ladies... I know it’s still severely early days but has anyone gone through a miscarriage before, if so how long til you were ttc again xx

Pol96 · 07/05/2020 21:10

@Jaydaebee there a few threads on miscarriage and ttc after one on MN hopefully they can help you xx

theruffles · 07/05/2020 21:20

I wanted to add my experience in case it might give someone a bit of hope. I had extremely long cycles after coming off the pill - on average 67 days and at worst, 100 days(!) After TTC for 2 years we were referred to the fertility team at the hospital and I was diagnosed with PCOS. I don't have a lot of the usual telltale signs of PCOS but long cycles was a giveaway. After some procedures and treatment I was given 3 rounds of clomid (and progesterone) to see whether that would work before looking at other methods. Thankfully, the third round worked and we got our DC who is now almost 2.

My cycles now seem to have settled around 37 days, which is a big improvement on before. I don't know if we'll be able to have another DC without help but I'm so very grateful we were able to have the DC we do have.

I hope that my experience gives someone else a bit of hope if you have really long cycles or PCOS. I know how miserable it can be, trying and trying for something you want so much.
