Hi everyone who read this! My typical cycle is 34-37 days long but everyone I talk to seems to have shorter cycles. I'm looking for others like myself who have long cycles and are ttc :) we are trying for our first baby x

Welcome @GG133! My word, did it take 4 years to diagnose PCOS? My mum had it and no symptoms at all apart from difficult periods. Are you temping or testing with OPKs? ☺️

GG133 · 13/06/2020 23:15

Hi @xoJellyBean! Yes, it has taken that long to get any kind of diagnosis. I have been wondering all that time, what the problem might be and absolutely driven myself mad. So now I know, I feel a bit more relaxed, although, I did just find out this week ☺️
I think it has taken that long as we were trying for 1 1/2 yrs before going to GP. Then 8 months on Clomid (was around a year with my long cycles) then referred to Fertility clinic, waited a year just to get appointment, then with Pandemic, just got results this week! At least I know now.
I was using OPKs for years but stopped as they weren’t reliable for me, (they were driving me crazy... or maybe I was driving myself crazy?😱), so now I just rely on temp and cm.
What works for you when gauging ovulation?

xoJellyBean · 13/06/2020 23:26

@GG133 soo glad you got your diagnosis!! At least you know now and can work with it. Are you going for ivf then?! Of course the pandemic had delayed things! 🙄
I have been winging it by thinking 'oh I'm off the pill now I'll get pregnant when I want' lol how wrong was I!! This is the 1st month I actually confirmed ovulation with temps and also OPKs :) and that was all down to this thread! Period is due tomorrow/Monday I THINK but never sure with our longer cycles lol how old are you by the way? I am 27 :)

@xoJellyBean, I know! I had no idea how difficult ttc would be 🙄
I’m 36 🙈 But I don’t feel it! Does that count?!
So yes, our consultant advises IVF is our route to go. Although I romanticise about conceiving naturally, my desire to be a parent, have my own family is stronger. But we still ttc EVERY single cycle naturally, and will do up until our IVF treatment is scheduled. Time is running on for us now @xoJellyBean.
Great that you had a confirmed ovulation this month, I have my fingers crossed for you! 😀
Great thread you started for us with long cycles 🤗 Brilliant!

Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 08:44

@xoJellyBean I don't know either 🙈 I think I just won't test as I find it so stressful.

Hi @GG133 and welcome :) it is SO frustrating. Out of curiosity, what tests did they do to find out you had pcos? I have an inkling I might have it, but from my understanding they don't often diagnose people? When I said this to my doc he said "you're not tubby enough for pcos". I'm like... great. Are you serious? Glad you got your answers! Hopefully things will get going for you now x

Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 09:03

Also @xoJellyBean I think I've found a problem with temping... I often sleep with my mouth open (I know, attractive), and it's been quite cold in our room the past few nights. So I did an experiment this morning as my mouth felt cold as if I had drunk cold water, so I first took my temp as normal and got 36.26. Then I didn't move at all but closed my mouth for about a minute, then took it again and it went right up! Maybe I need to just do that from now on...

Hi all! Hoping I can join this thread.

Its so good to find somewhere where it looks like other people might have some idea what I'm going through!

I have PCOS and very irregular cycles. I have never had a positive OPK, I had a faint second line once in December but that was it! My cycles are all over the place. I range from bleeding for 8 weeks to not having a period for 3 months.

I'm using an ovusense to try and make sense of everything, and tracking CM. I've been doing an OPK (or two or three!) a day this cycle. I'm currently on day 39.

So we haven't yet been able to even make it to the 2ww since our wedding in November which I'm finding really frustrating. :(

Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 09:45

@Cluurr welcome :) and so sorry that everything's been so difficult and taking so long for you :( it must be so frustrating. Stick with us and we'll make it through together. How long have you been trying for officially? Is a doctors visit on the cards?

RosebudTTC · 14/06/2020 09:48

I've changed my name by the way, haha.

@Newbie0818 Well I've been using Ovusense since December but no ovulation. So six months. My BMI is high so I doubt they would even entertain a discussion, probably just get told to lose weight - which I am already working on. Once I've lost a couple of stone I'll probably go.

Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 10:07

@RosebudTTC that sucks :( hope something happens for you soon. Have you tried any herbal remedies to bring in a period? I've heard good things about Agnus Castus to regulate long cycles, but you have to stop after ovulation just in case you get pregnant. There's also another thing called MyoInositol that people with pcos have told me about that is a natural version of Clomid. Seems to be successful. Sorry if you've already tried them, though it might be worth mentioning though. I'm considering agnus castus next cycle if this one goes tits up.

RosebudTTC · 14/06/2020 10:14

@newbie0818 I take MyOva which has Myo-Inositol, Chromium and folate and I take coq10. I was taking (until yesterday!) pregnacare pre-conception vitamin daily too - but I read on a thread yesterday that they can cause havoc with cycles so now I'm worried to take it! I googled it and found lots of people had said the same. eek.

I haven't heard of agnus castus - thank you I'll go look that up now! Thank you for the recommendation. It really is a minefield isn't it!

GG133 · 14/06/2020 10:53

Hi @Newbie0818 👋 They did a simple blood test to tell I have PCOS, although I think it was a combination of things/results (scans of ovaries) and my consultant has come to that conclusion. And because I hadn’t any other symptoms, I think that may have been partly why it took them so long to diagnose me 🤷‍♀️ What’s more, I had those most recent tests done in November and only just got the results. ‘They won’t give results over the phone, you’ve got to wait for your next appointment’, but they ended up telling us during a phone call appointment because of the situation we’re in at the minute.

I have tried Angus Cactus in the past, but as I didn’t notice a change in my cycle length or period intensity, I stopped, but I hear it is fabulous for some people. Maybe I didn’t feel as groggy whilst on it, so that’s always a good thing. And it’s good to keep trying things to find out what works best for you. You won’t know unless you try them 😊

I’m on day 27 and no sign of ovulation yet, so I’m thinking it’s another anovulatory cycle... so it’s gonna be another llooonnnnnnngggggggg one girls 🤯

xoJellyBean · 14/06/2020 11:09

@Newbie0818 oh my word, that explains your sudden drop! Looks like a good rise now 🤩 this is mine at the minute, my temp went up slightly today... CD30 now!

@GG133 good luck for your ivf journey :) I did work with a girl who was going to her first appointment regarding ivf and they told her to take a pregnancy test just incase and she was pregnant! So good for you for keeping trying every cycle as you just never know🤗

OP posts:
xoJellyBean · 14/06/2020 11:14

@RosebudTTC welcome!! Just saw your comment about pregnacare, I've started taking it this month! Did you see that it causes havoc with cycles on google? Must look it up 🙈

OP posts:
RosebudTTC · 14/06/2020 11:29

@xojellybean apparently the vitamin B6 lengthens your luteal phase so probably not ideal for those of us with already long cycles! So annoying...

xoJellyBean · 14/06/2020 12:01

@RosebudTTC never knew that! Just checked the box of my other multi vitamins I took beforehand and they have the same amount of b6, was taking them for 3 months and I had cycles of 32 30 and 29 so hopefully it doesn't affect me 😂

OP posts:
Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 12:30

@GG133 don't give up hope, I didn't ovulate until cd43 last cycle! And I agree I think all these things are trial and error when ttc, worth a try I suppose.

@xoJellyBean that's a lovely rise! God I hope mine keeps going, I'm having af style cramps now so already losing hope 😭
@RosebudTTC I read that too with Pregnacare, but from what it seems it's mainly people with "normal" cycles that get affected, whereas for girls with longer cycles it seems to shorten them! I think pol96 is an advocate for that haha!

@Pol96 how are you doing? Are you feeling stressed still? X

Pol96 · 14/06/2020 12:40

Hi @Newbie0818! Thanks for checking in 😊 I'm definitely seeing myself relax a bit more now, I still get a bit stressed but I keep telling myself there's no reason to think it's not going well. I turned my hr monitor off, stopped temping and rarely test now (but when I do I need to water it down as there's now too much hcg 😅)

With the pregnacare it definitely helped to regulate my cycles. I ovulated cd18 after using it, whereas before I sometimes didn't ovulate until after 50 or so days (once on the 111th day!) so for me they definitely shortened and regulated my cycles. I'm hoping as Newbie says they help regulate and shorten women with longer cycles and legnthen women with normal cycles to give them a longer luteal phase. But I guess they'll work differently for each person.

@xoJellyBean and @Newbie0818 your charts are looking promising, and about the boobs not hurting.. Mine still don't hurt really.. I also didn't get my normal pms symptoms.. so 🤞!

Good luck everyone! X

Newbie0818 · 14/06/2020 12:49

@Pol96 that's amazing to hear! If you don't water it down does it come up negative? Interesting! So glad everything seems to be going well for you 😊

xoJellyBean · 14/06/2020 12:55

Aww @Pol96 good to hear from you! I was wondering if all was ok 🙈 I defo think the pregnacare and the multi vitamins sorted my cycles out! Here's hoping for a 9 month long one this time 🤣 I've got a sore side boob today which I don't think I've had before. Who knows! @Newbie0818 really hope you & I are lucky. When are enough going to test? I sprinted to the bathroom this morning to resist the urge 😂

OP posts:
Pol96 · 14/06/2020 12:55

@Newbie0818 not negative, just not as strong.. If I hadn't read about the hook effect on here/Google before hand I'd have panicked big time! I literally had to add at least 50% water to get it dark, dark again. I thought it was a myth until I tried it!

Pol96 · 14/06/2020 12:57

@xoJellyBean yeah, I'm trying to restrict my mumsnet time as there's so many sad stories.
Anything different can be a good sign! X

GG133 · 14/06/2020 13:29

@xoJellyBean - Thank you xx
@Newbie0818 - you are right, I won’t give up hope yet! I have had ovulation very late myself a few times, but it’s rare. So fingers crossed xx

Fingers crossed for you all! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

xoJellyBean · 14/06/2020 15:01

Ughhh guys, I'm being spammed with my friends newborn baby boy - he was born yesterday. He's so cute and I'm really happy for her but I'm just starting to get upset 😭
