The first thread I've ever started.

Me age 41 and TTC since mmc in June. Anyone else out there.

OP posts:
Juicylucytoo · 10/06/2008 09:20

Twas my birthday on Friday. Thanks for the greetings! I normally really enjoy my birthday, but the thought of turning 41 sort of put a downer on it.

Oh well, over and done with now. Will start OV testing thursday I think, day 13. As my cycle is 30-33 days at the mo, I don't know whether that's too early. You OV 14 days before af right?

xserialshopper · 10/06/2008 11:10

Sorry Cece and Juicy ...... but I can't answer your questions about ov and af as I'm reeeeeeeal slow in those areas (that's why I've got a CBFM now).

Hows the bean Heron/Roque/Min?

heron22 · 10/06/2008 11:32

hi X, good to hear from you

bean and I are fine, had scan last week and all good (touch wood!)

nearly 7 weeks

what have u been up to?

rowingboat · 10/06/2008 12:23

Hi Heron and Xserial!
Cece, I used an OPK this month as well and had a positive result on day 12 or 13. I say that because I tried to fill in the FF chart retrospectively, and I don't know if I successfully remembered the exact day that AF started. I kept thinking 'I must update FF' and then not doing it. So as an upshot, I don't quite know what cd I am on. Doh!Generally, I have a 28 day cycle, so af could arrive in the next four or five days, according to my rubbish calculations.
Anyhoo, you were asking about the OPK! Most sources I have looked at (including the instructions in the packet) state that after a positive test, you are likely to ovulate between 24 - 48 hours afterward, with 36 afterwards hours being the average. The packs also say that you should try to bd another time after the 48 hour period, as an insurance policy.
I'm not sure about the ovulating 14 days after ovulating - I know it is possible to have a shorter luteal phase (the time after ovulating), that's why some people take agnus castus - to make it longer.
Probably temping would give a more reliable indication of your luteal phase - not that I've ever managed to do it.

rowingboat · 10/06/2008 12:29

I have just re-read your post cece - it sounds as if your temp began to climb on cd16? If so then you may have ovulated on cd 15 or early on cd 16 you add up to 48 hours on to the time you tested on cd 14. Does that make sense?
Did you bd around that time??

cece · 10/06/2008 17:31

yep but it only went up slightly then adn went up sharply CD 18. Hence FF has put OV as day 18!

Oh well, will know soon enough! We did BD on the right days for either

roquefortlover · 10/06/2008 17:50

Hi guys, not been on for a while so don't think I've congratulated MInmooch - congrats!! Thanks for asking after us xserial - I am 5+4 weeks but sadly have started having some cramping and spotting today . Will just have to wait and see if it is an mc. Still getting v strong +ive on HPTs though which wasn't the case with the chemical preg in Feb/March. Glad to hear your bean is fine Heron!

Roquefortlover

cece · 10/06/2008 18:02

roquefortlover - oh no. I hope it is just a little blip and all is well. A bit early for a scan but could you try and book one for a weeks time?

roquefortlover · 10/06/2008 18:10

hi cece and thanks for your support. I hope it's a blip but have a bad feeling after last time. Have made a docs appointment for a week's time as might know more one way or another by then and if I haven't mc'ed will see if I can get a scan then (plus, am too busy at work this week to get to doc's anyway!). Waiting is so hard though.

cece · 10/06/2008 21:31

roquefort - I understand. The waiting is the hardest

rowingboat · 10/06/2008 22:21

Roquefort - I hope you are both OK! I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you for next week.
Cece, I don't really have the faintest idea of how temps go up, having never managed to chart mine. Do they go up gradually until they get to the highest, or is it normal to have a spike?
So now if the temp stays high, that's good isn't it? [looks blank]
I don't think OPKs are the most reliable of methods, Attila the Meercat says that they can give positives even when you aren't ovulating.
If you think the real positive might have been on day 15 then day 18 would still be feasible though I think.
You could get one of those ferning tests as well, then you could have a laboratory for testing ovulation.

cece · 10/06/2008 22:51

I have no idea really about the temps. Only my second month of taking them and tracking them! I believe high temps are good. 18 in a row means you are pg...

Juicylucytoo · 11/06/2008 08:01

roquefort - fingers crossed for you. `

heron22 · 11/06/2008 08:24

Hi Roque, fingers crossed for you and your bean! you said you are super busy right now. try to take sometime during the day to rest and put your feet up a little.

let us know how you get on

hopefor3 · 11/06/2008 12:30

I have just been prescribed Menopur, has anybody got any experiences of it? I am 39, have already had 2 children but the 3rd is proving tricky. We have been trying for over 3 years.

rowingboat · 11/06/2008 13:07

Hi Hope, sorry I haven't heard of it. Have you done a search yet? I hear you about the 'tricky' nature of TTC.

ladymac · 11/06/2008 17:39

Hi ladies,

I wonder if i might join you all?

A brief history: I had 3 dcs in my 20s and early 30s then got divorced. I met (childless) DP and we were over the moon when I conceived. Dc4 (dd3) was born last april when I was 43 so don't give up hope! We conceived again last month but unfortunately on monday I had an early m/c at 5 weeks.

I would appreciate some advice as to how long other people have waited after m/c before ttc. Feeling the pressure as i will be 45 in august. Also I'm not sure which is the best website/book for charting fertility, which are the best methods etc? And where do I start counting? Do I count the 1st day of the m/c like the 1st day of my period? Also have learnt the general MN acronyms but the ttc ones are a mystery to me!

Thanks everybody and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Ladymac

xserialshopper · 11/06/2008 20:36

Hi everyone.

Roque I've got my fingers crossed for you. When you go to the docs see if you can get an early scan.

Hopefor 3 and Ladymac - if you do a mumsnet search for what you need info on, you will probably find a thread that can help you. That's what I did to find out about blocked tubes, and all the info I got was really helpful.

I'm on cd17 today and been able to bd cd15 cd16 and will bd again tonight (is this too much info?) and (hopefully)also cd18 and cd20. This is where pre seed comes into its own

......Yes of course you can join us Ladymac

Let us know how you all get on

roquefortlover · 11/06/2008 21:53

xserialshopper - never too much info!! Thanks for the support from you and everyone else - it does help. I reckon things are not looking good as am still crampy/spotting but at least it hasn't got any worse yet. If it's still the same when I see the doc will def ask for a scan as will be 6+4 by then so shd be able to see something. Heron, am trying to rest but am just coming to the end of a teacher training course and finishing my last spell on teaching practice so pretty much on my feet all day! And of course noone there knows anything about me ttc.

Last but not least welcome to lady mac - everyone is v friendly here! personally I wld say go for it after an early mc as they say you are a bit more fertile immediately after. I think advice to wait is just for dating purposes although after my chemical preg which ended at 4+5 wks my cycle was back to normal pretty much straight away. Hth, RL.

rowingboat · 11/06/2008 22:04

LOL, at the preseed! Xserial. I know what you mean. Day 15 and onwards you can use a bit of help!
I just checked FF and I'm on day 25, which could also be day 24, because I stuffed up on the dates.

rowingboat · 11/06/2008 22:08

Hi Ladymac, second roquefort - I have seen a few reports which state the months after a miscarriage are more fertile. There is a slightly raised hormone, can't remember which one, but it helps to conceive. I had a chemical pg last year and I read loads on it. Not that it did me any good.
I've read about women being given extra progesterone when they are at risk of mc, do you think this might be a possibility for you Roque?

roquefortlover · 12/06/2008 06:44

Hi Guys. Red bleeding this morning so I guess that's it for me. Feeling very low at the moment. Off to work soon.

RL

heron22 · 12/06/2008 10:38

Hi Roque, i am giving you hugs. Lots of women bleed during early pregnancy and everything is ok. i hope this is the case for you.

roquefortlover · 12/06/2008 19:55

Oh Heron, thank you for the hugs. I know bleeding doesn't always spell disaster but along with the cramps I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope. Ah well - what will be will be I guess, and we can go back to ttc again - at least I know I am still fertile

rowingboat · 12/06/2008 21:28

Roquefort, I'm sorry you are feeling so down. You are right, if this pg continues, then that's fantastic, but if it isn't the time, you are obviously very fertile, so it is just a matter of time. It's just so hard when things like this happen, I do really feel for you. Perhaps the fact you are so busy is going to be helpful in this instance, to keep your mind off of things.
Sending you a big hug and a box of chocolates!
