roquefortlover · 03/04/2008 23:07

I think obsession is unavoidable really. Just becasue as you say there is always hope! Here's to a lucky thread for all of us.

giggly · 03/04/2008 23:25

Hi glad to see some late night action other than bd.
Hi bambi and under, I am a sporadic poster otherwise I get to obsessed, only on 3 month ttc#2 have dd aged 2.6. Now on day cd44 with no af and bfn last week although I will test again tomorrow. Apart from previous pregnancy I have never missed a period, not sure what's happening.

My friend who has had 3 concurrent mc has been advised by her consultant to bd 3-4 times each week throughout the month, made me ROFL, no way would we manage that.( with her dh obviously not the consultant)

Time for bed in the giggly house now. Sweet dreams to all.

rowingboat · 03/04/2008 23:37

Hi Undervalued and Bambilocket!
That's interesting about the alternate side myth Cece - I must look into that. The doctor was absolutely categoric on that, he said my chances of conceiving were 50% of those if both my tubes were fully functioning. I'm not very impressed with him though, he seemed to be in a bit of a rush the last time we met.
That could mean it is less than 50%, what if the dodgy side keeps growing faster and being the side that ovulates??!!! Who knows what the chances of conception are then!
Bums!

imblet · 03/04/2008 23:51

Good Evening all, I should be working but I ended up here instead. I want to share a piece of (very old) good news. I am 44 (argh) later this month and first started ttc in 1987 just after I was first married. Very long story and I wont bore you with all the details but I had two blocked tubes and very infrequent ovulation. During surgery to free the tubes one was severed completely and the other was left as they said it was not worth trying to save. IVF was not an option for me as I became suicidally depressed on all the medication. I finally accepted in 2000 I was not going to be a mum. Actually I never accepted it I just learned to live with it. During all of this 2 marriages were wrecked and I spent years on ADs. Any way to get to the positive stuff I fell pregnant in 2005 and now have a fabulous DD who makes me cry with joy every single day.
So Blessed2 and lilibet it does happen, my thoughts are with you all.

rowingboat · 04/04/2008 00:03

That's a great story Imblet - I'm happy for you!

I had a super-quick scan on Google about ovulation sides etc... and the doctor was pretty much right when he said that there was a 50% chance of pregnancy, it seems that it does kind of balance out, but it is not certain that the ovaries will ovulated alternately each cycle, it could be two times on one side then two on the other or three or four. There was another piece of research that concluded that there was more chance of a having a successful pregnancy/baby with eggs from the right ovary. Now I will have to phone up the clinic and ask again which side was blocked. I did ask, but I don't think he answered, just kind of waffled on about having to try each month.
I'm so glad you posted that Cece - I really didn't understand fully. Thank you!

bambilocket · 04/04/2008 08:18

Ladies, thank you so much for having me! This is such a long thread that you must all know each other very well. Funny enough I have probably got a blocked right tube and it's my right ovary that works properly (got PCOS). Right now I've got 10 IVF induced follicles on right ovary and 3 on left (much smaller). I've had HCG's but unfortunately was allergic to the dye (iodine) and went into shock, they were too busy sorting that out to get a proper reading from the HSCG but think right may have a prob; I've got a 16 month dd (also IVF) and am going for it now due to age being v. relevant factor in treatment. First IVF resulted in mmc, seems like a lot of ladies on this list have been through that horrendous experience. 2nd IVF produced dd. I've done a Frozen with no result and now doing 3rd fresh - maybe this time it will be twins. I promise not to go on about IVF any more!!! Fingers crossed for all of us! x

lilibet · 04/04/2008 14:43

Hello everyone - no good news for me this month - the spotty chin never lies!

Welcome to the new ones, I kow that we ahve been going a while but we are always open to new ones - the more of us there is the more the chance of good news

Undervalued - my dc's are 19, 14 and 11 - do you worry about how they will take the news?

bit different to telling a three year old she is going to be a fantastic big sister

duchesse · 04/04/2008 15:38

Hey all- sorry for laconic post but am despondent.

Is 40 just too damned old do you think?

Been ttc for 4.5 years though, and only thing that's happened besides one miscarriage 18 mths ago is that my eggs have all aged by 4.5 years. Doctor surgery is a pile of useless crap.

Should I just give up?

Wrong thread to ask this, I know. Sorry.

< Backs out >

lilibet · 04/04/2008 17:43

Oh Duchesse

I have no idea how old is too old, there isn't a 'line' which once you cross it that's it, you're too old, perhaps it would be easier if there was.

I think all of us on here have times like that, have a look at the link I put on earlier to a post of Triplets.

Is this going to be your first babay?

Heron23 · 04/04/2008 17:54

welcome all newcomers! the more the merrier!
Imblet, your story is amazing...i love it!

Bambi, just wondering, who kind of FSH reading would be acceptable for IVF?

I have only got one ovary - the right one cos the left one had a tumour and was removed. So I conceived my DS with my right ovary only. hoping for a second child. on 2nd cycle now. using clearblue fertility monitor. like all of you, we are too knackered to do it every night...

Blessed2 · 04/04/2008 20:33

Imblet thank you so much for that. I really needed to hear something positive. Thank you.

Hello undervalued and all the others who recently joined us. Glad for the support

Blessed2 · 04/04/2008 20:42

Duchesse you're only too old if you can't stand the thought of a little one following you around every where you go for the 1st 3 years of their lives - once they start walking that is . I've been trying for the same length of time as you so lets encourage each other.

Oh I'm sure it's for right tube that's blocked but I'm not going to give up esp since i've read some of your lovely comments!!

By the way. I get my cb monitor sticks from the usa on ebay.com you can use your same sign in that you use for ebay.co.uk. Just remember to investigage the seller - don't buy blindly. Even with the postage to UK a box of 30 can work out the same as a box of 20 even with the postage if you buy 3 boxes together. I admit I have enough sticks to last me 1 year at the moment.

duchesse · 04/04/2008 23:10

No, it's not my first, but there would be a biggish gap. If it ever happens, which is looking less and less likely every month.

rowingboat · 05/04/2008 11:30

Hi Duchesse, I'm sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. It can be so frustrating and difficult to keep going.
What is the problem with your GP surgery? Have you been referred for further tests?
I found it helped me to have the information from the HSG and just an opportunity to talk to an expert.
We are on day 14 today and I actually feel a bit more positive because if there isn't a strict alternation between ovaries, any month could be an fertile month. Weird, but it has helped me to focus.

roquefortlover · 05/04/2008 11:31

duchesse, you sound really fed up - I am so sorry. I can't add anything to what others have already said but just wanted to send you hugs and to say that I find MN so suppportive over these things so remember we are all here if you need to moan/shout/whatever! How old are your existing dc (obv. don't say if you'd prefer not to!)

bambilocket · 05/04/2008 13:45

Duchesse, have you had any tests done? I agree taht 4.5 years is a long time and if there is something then, at our age, it's best to get a move on if you know what I mean. I hung around waiting on lists and farting about for the best part of 12 years before dd, do not recommend what that does to your mental health!

Heron, I'm sorry I'm not the person to ask about FSH and IVF but there are lots of sites out there. Is it something you're thinking about?

This round of IVF for me is going bonkers and might get cancelled. I'll keep you all posted but will be in having eggs collected on MOnday (there are 15 gynormous ones on my right ovary and a poxy 3 on the left) FINGERS CROSSED!

It will happen it will happen it will happen for us all!

rowingboat · 05/04/2008 15:04

GOOD LUCK BAMBILOCKET!!!
Does it mean that they will harvest from the right ovary then - the number of follicles?
How many do you think they will implant? If that is the correct term?

undervalued · 05/04/2008 15:06

Duchesse- my Drs told me I was too old, risks were too high (mmc in Oct) but I still have faith..Do you think that ttc is becoming too difficult emotionally? I'm there sometimes too, but giving up feels more difficult at the moment.
lilibet My kids were very pleased last time, very proud. It ended in miscarriage but they will me forward. How do you think your DC will react?
Nothing happenng here, CD26 already. I usually start to spot brown gunge (Sorry, tmi ) around CD24 but nothing so far. I will not get too excited again this month...

bambilocket · 06/04/2008 08:47

Duchesse! How come your drs think 40 is to old for you - they're letting me go ahead at 40 and my fertility history is crap, I've had miscarriages and my dd was born by emergency c section at 36 weeks low birthweight scbu etc etc (pregnancy from outer space but still ended happily) - maybe you need to go somewhere else. The hospital where I do IVF does a consultation for about £100 and maybe that would be helpful for you - doesn't commit you to anything but you might need to pay to get some more tests done (with me they usually write to my GP to ask her to do the tests on the NHS and give me copies of the results for them to look at - IVF is NOT Cheap!!!!) - just can't stress how much you need not to hang about at our age!

rowingboat!! thank you very much! I've done my final injection and am all set for 9am collection tomorrow morning. They will drain all the follicles and then see how many contain eggs and then how many of those eggs are 'ripe' - the ones in the big cysts are going to be overblown and some of the others won't be quite ready so I just have to hope that there is a batch in the middle that will work - I think I've bamboozled them with the uneven response, doesn't seem like it's something they expect - still YOU ONLY NEED ONE!!!!

Wey Hey ladies - good luck to us all!!!!

lilibet · 06/04/2008 09:58

Bambi - I will think of you in the morning and say a little prayer (cue for a song?) for us all in church this morning!

Undervalued - I'm not sure, I think once it's here they will be fine, the boys will compete for it's affection same as they do with the cats and as long as it's a girl dd will be fine, she has never quite forgiven me for giving her two little brothers

Juicylucytoo · 06/04/2008 15:31

40 IS NOT TOO OLD. It's my new mantra

Good luck Bambi.

Not much to report here. DH is home (Yipee) and so far we're still working on BDing . DS has a horrible cold and got a temperature on Firday, so we've been otherwise engaged as it were. Heho, only day 8, so no rush.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Heron23 · 06/04/2008 17:40

giggly · 06/04/2008 20:54

Hi all, starting to get a bit paranoid here, Cd48 no AF and another bfn.No sign of increase CM so I have no idea when ov,
I dont want to get into using monitoring ,sticks again this month as I get to worked up.
Undervalued I soooo wanted a Christmas baby to, but I suppose a New Year baby would do just as fine.
