TTC after miscarriage - February 2020

Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

@Whiffle77 I’m so sorry you’ve had to join us here. Hopefully your stay on this thread will be a short one and you’ll soon get your happy ending.

As far as I’m aware, from what I was told, your body won’t ovulate until your hcg levels have returned to non pregnant levels (under 5).

So if you’re still getting positive pregnancy tests it means you still have pregnant levels of hcg in order for the test to pick it up. That’s why it’s best to wait until you get a clear bfn, as that usually indicates normal levels. You can then start ttc again, no need to wait for af to arrive. You ‘should’ ovulate within 2 weeks of the levels returning to normal, and then af will arrive after unless you’ve managed to fall pregnant. But don’t be worried if your cycles are a little out of whack initially. I think it can be fairly normal to ovulate at a totally different time to you usually would.
Good luck x

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 13:46

Thanks @moominmiss appreciate the response! I know it will take awhile for my body to settle down, I'm just so impatient now. I'll see how things go this week

Moominmiss · 11/02/2020 14:18

@Whiffle77 I feel your pain! I never realised how impatient I was until now.

For some women they like to give themselves time before ttc again but for me all I want is to be pregnant again. Time isn’t on my side either with my age, so to have miscarried back on January 1st and only just had my levels drop back to zero has felt like a lifetime!

Just give it a week and test again and hopefully you’ll get a bfn. Make sure it’s definitely 100% a true bfn though. I had what appeared to be several bfn’s even when scrutinised under different lightning. So started ttc again, only to then get bfp’s even a 1-2 on a digital. I then had my blood tests which confirmed hcg of 22. So it was either still dropping from the mc or it had been a new pregnancy that turned into a chemical. I then had a second blood test 72 hours later which confirmed things were normal again, and that very same day I got af.

I’m sure things will be easier for you!

Fingers crossed for us and all the other lovely ladies here x

LITTLEPICKLES88 · 11/02/2020 14:52

@michette thanks for your reply :) I have not booked in for an early scan, I have my first midwife appointment in 2 weeks they will then arrange a scan, I could be a week or so more than I think due to irregular periods but won't know for sure until scan xx

Michette · 11/02/2020 15:39

@LITTLEPICKLES88 ah that’s a good thing. You should definitely let her know about your worries after the loss. She might be able to help. Hope everything goes well x

Anyone had colposcopy done with biopsy?
When did you have sex again after?

Had mine today...

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 16:17

@Moominmiss luckily my husband is feeling the same, we both want to try again as soon as possible! Going to be weird getting our heads back into ttc mode again though. Oh well, I'm pleased at least that I can get pregnant as I was starting to doubt it.
That's good advice, thank you - just hope I can follow it ha!! Sorry to hear you had such a tough time of it afterwards, it must have been really hard not to start getting your hopes up for a new pregnancy when you were getting positives!
Time is passing by so fast at the minute so I guess that is a positive too...
Wishing you lots of luck!

Leok83 · 11/02/2020 17:38

@seaduck & @kkr168 thanks guys..we decided to go for it so will see what comes of it now! Guessing I def ovulated as seemed to have some side cramps middle of the night but will need to wait for bbt to confirm being the total control freak I am😄

Had my ultrasound today and no fibroid seen and thankfully everything looks normal..wasnt internal and was told MRI would be needed to tell for def but that it’s unlikely very big if regular ultrasound not picking it up and so shouldn’t cause any issues.

@LITTLEPICKLES88 congratulations! It’s all looking good..hopefully you can relax into it soon although I know I’d be the same if I get a BFP again!

@whiffle77 so sorry you are here too. In my case I still had a hcg of 37 last Wednesday which was 4 weeks post ERPC and pretty sure I ovulated yesterday/today based on opk. Decided to try before af as too impatient and also 36 so worried about time ticking away. But I’d def recommend you do try for negative preg test or get levels checked to make sure gone down so you don’t confuse a BFP with leftover hcg. I’ve next hcg level check tomorrow but decided to try before got to 0 as got bfn at home and levels had def dropped so if I get a new preg over 37 then I know it’s not leftover hcg..that’s my take on it anyways!

@Happythecrocodile sorry af arrived😢 I use clear blue opk which also measures oestrogen as well as LH.theyre pricey (bout €58 in Ireland in boots full price for 20 but try find a deal on them)when I get smileys I start doing cheap opks and when solid smiley I do the cheap opks 2-3 times a day to find out when the peak is..I use the femometer ones from amazon (less than £10 I think for 20) but I’ve never actually reached peak on the app that reads the cheap ones..only high but I still ovulate at high so don’t worry too much about it. Lots of peeing on sticks 😄

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 18:49

Thanks @Leok83 ! I'm 34 so feel similar about time now as well - if you had told me I would feel like this a year ago, I never would have believed you!! Sorry you are here too, but it sounds like you are getting some good medical care. I've not had any scans or checks since it happened so just trying to work my way through this on my own! Google and mumsnet has been great (but also terrifying...). Good luck ttc!

Ejb86 · 12/02/2020 06:35

@TerribleImagination hows the tww going for you? I've had a couple of days of feeling queasy, but now my little boy has a stomach bug and I just wonder if I've been carrying that around.

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 12/02/2020 06:41

So I am definitely out for February. I went to see my consultant last night as I was worried about the bleeding. The bad news was I'd developed a blood clot in my womb, the good news is it was resolving itself and that was causing the bleeding. The good news is he could see that my cycle was resuming and my left ovary was gearing up to ovulate, but the bad news is there is probably nothing doing this month while the blood clot resolves itself. But maybe that is no bad thing as it forces me to have a bit more time to recover.

Congratulations on the bfps and good luck to everyone in the two week wait!

Ejb86 · 12/02/2020 07:11

AF just arrived and I'm gutted Sad

TerribleImagination · 12/02/2020 07:11

@Ejb86 It’s going haha! I started taking B6 again about a week ago, I used to take it for bloating and PMS symptoms and for some reason stopped 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the bloating etc was so bad I started again and it’s taken so many normal PMS symptoms away / reduced them that I don’t really feel like I’m about to get a period, or that I’m pregnant! 😆 Which is kind of helping this month to be honest!

I have had some mild cramping, starting around a week after ovulation, but I also had that last month and I wasn’t pregnant so I have no idea!

How are you getting on?

OP posts:
Happythecrocodile · 12/02/2020 09:10

@Leok83 See all that peeing on sticks just sounds so stressful to me! Do you find it stressful or does it make you feel more in control? Also do you need to hold your wee for a while before doing them? When I tried some Tesco ones before DC1 it said don’t use first morning wee but also hold your wee for 4 hours before testing which I found quite hard to do! And if you don’t mind me asking, why do you use them? Do you have irregular cycles/ ovulation dates or is it useful even if your cycles are quite regular? Sorry for all the questions!

@Ejb86 Flowers we are cycle buddies as I came on yesterday. Gutting isn’t it Sad

TerribleImagination · 12/02/2020 10:40

@Ejb86 I’m so sorry AF arrived! That’s so so rubbish 😢 Sending love ❤️

@Happythecrocodile ask away!! I originally started using OPK on 2nd cycle TTC (after being shocked I didn’t get preggo straight away😄) and found that I ovulated few days later than apps predicted, I’ve regular 28 day cycle but thought if I had about 3 months confirmed consistently ovulating around same time I’d stop and just go with it, then I conceived 3rd cycle so never got to see a def pattern. Obviously after MC now it’s way off as normally ov CD 16/17 but now it’s CD35. If it takes another few cycles to conceive I’ll prob stop once I get a pattern. I just feel like everything is so out of your control TTC so at least this is one thing I can control and it keeps me sane! I don’t tend to hold my urine tho as I’ve a small bladder but just try and time it for before and after work. The Clearblue need 1st morning urine anyways so it’s pretty easy but I always pee middle of night so even for cheapy too I just tested when I got up..not sure if that’s still 1st morning urine but it works so didn’t stress bout it.

Ibaadsmummy · 12/02/2020 11:34

Michette · 12/02/2020 11:52

@Ibaadsmummy you do what you feel is right!
I don’t think anyone can tell you :)

But also i don’t believe that we are more fertile after a MC !

Hannah234 · 12/02/2020 12:58

Hi everyone - really sorry you've all been through the same, but nice to have company... TTC for the first time this month after MMC. (No heartbeat at 12 week scan in October, but baby grew to 11 weeks... Sad ) Decided to do the two cycles wait thing, since I had a long bleed post D&C. Finally trying again now, and so impatient and anxious!! Currently AF is 5 days late and feeling symptoms, but BFN this morning... Very confusing. Really hope we all get pregnant again quickly!

ChampooPapi · 12/02/2020 13:23

Waves @TerribleImagination and @Michette @mlax, hey ladies. I'm back after a few weeks break, really done me some good. A few days into the two week wait this end, due on next Monday.

Ad finally seems to have sorted itself out post miscarriage in October. Only cycle 4 and feeling calm, obviously would love a positive this month, but I'm fine with a March one and a Christmas babe in arms.

I think I'm actually over the worst as far as grieving for the baby now. I feel so much better about it now but it has been such an intense 4 months. The surgery seems a long time ago though and I can't wait to see some more bfp on this thread!

We are due some that's for sure

Love and virtual hugs to you all 💞✨👣🌈

ChampooPapi · 12/02/2020 13:29

But also i don’t believe that we are more fertile after a MC !

@Michette lol, neither do I anymore. I got pregnant the first or second cycle the last three pregnancies (resulting in two children)

And looking at our personal thread stats from this one and the last few we've been on there is a lot more positives each month for certain.

I think it actually takes a few months for periods to sort themselves out again unless it's a chemical pregnancy or very early. There were a fair few of us who lost our babies a fair bit later or had to have surgical or medical management. That has definitely not been a boost for any ones fertility.

How's the other ladies getting on like @AlviesMam and @Anny27 , you ladies ok ?

ChampooPapi · 12/02/2020 13:31

I meant

*A lot more positives on other threads that arnt trying after miscarriage

ChampooPapi · 12/02/2020 13:42

Waves @StephyRose . Just read back a bit to catch up with people's journeys. We both did the same thing of checking out and taking a break from it all. I just popped on as have been off for over two weeks now and wanted to send a hello to you all. I'll probably dissapear for the next week again so I don't start obsessing about it all, it very important to know what focuses ourselves on ourselves, and what focuses ourselves on everything else isn't it!

Love and hugs @StephyRose, please let us know how you get on though this month, I will also update but I too have gone from sex nearly every day to like twice a week so 🤷‍♀️

ChampooPapi · 12/02/2020 13:47

Hey @biscuit13, how are doing lovely? I just saw your attempts to 'log off' have failed somewhat but for I definitely think it really helps to get through things being connected here so keep doing it if it makes you feel good. I had just been glued to mum'snet for like three months post miscarriage and it was just absolutely keeping me in the past eventually, I was getting stuck with moving my grief on and above all, the obsession with conception was taking over too much.

Big virtual hug to you ♥️

mlax · 12/02/2020 14:16

Hey @ChampooPapi hope you're doing well and glad you're feeling much better. I took myself off this for a while too dipping in and out of it. I'm in a bit of a pickle myself as I honestly do not know when I'm ovulating. I'm in a WhatsApp group with a few lovely ladies from here too but all just so unsure of what is!

I feel like I have been ovulating and last week I wiped what we think is EWCM but there was an awful lot. Then I've been wiping small clearer amounts since I've attached some gruesome photos so I do apologise. My AF according to FLO isn't due until the 28th 😅 xx
