Join here please! I’m still taking my pill at the moment but current packet runs out on 7th Jan so planning to start then but not really track anything officially. I’ve been reading up about conception vitamins and going to buy some this week to start taking after new year- does anyone have recommendations for particular brands?
Will be my first but partners 2nd, very nervous but excited at the same time. No idea what to expect but hoping to have some ladies in the same situation to chat to!

Hey guys, just joined as we have just started trying for the first time. Both 30 and got married in May 2019!

@Ginger87 I went to the doctor today and mentioned we were trying - she said folic acid and vit D were the important ones but did say pregnancy supplements cover those and others!

switcharoo · 08/01/2020 20:10

I know I'm crazy to test, it's the evening and I'm 4DPO but I had such a strong positive with DS on the day AF was due and my norks are starting to get tender so I thought why not! I've kept is secret from DH and obviously messed around with the pic but in real life there's the faintest line in the world but possibly I've gone crazy and it's hope rather than actually anything there

Evening! Just catching up and came on the next page to see @switcharoo picture!!! I see something too! How exciting for you. What does DPO mean? I’ve been wanting to ask but didn’t want to look silly, I could probably google actually but I’ve written it here now 😂
Are you going to test again in the morning?

OP posts:
ablisha · 08/01/2020 20:14

Fingers are crossed for you @switcharoo

switcharoo · 08/01/2020 20:19

DPO = days post ovulation (all the acronyms took me ages to learn too!)
I think I might see how I feel in the morning but I doubt I have the self control not to test! Ha

yoomoo · 08/01/2020 20:32

Proper catch up now after I got very distracted by the threads first preg test (I think!)

@EffRam yay to ovulation, keeping fingers crossed for you!

@FootballAndBeer145 by next week you’ll be nearly 50 days won’t you? So I think a trip to the doctors isn’t unreasonable, they might be able to do a quick blood test to see what could be going on.

@lucymagoo ouch retail in November I can only imagine! My reason for work is the way our targets work I’d kinda like to finish the year out and then go off having hit all my numbers in December, but life doesn’t work like that so what will be will be! I’m also in the same space with the OPK, I was originally going to wait until I got AF and then test in the right stage of my cycle but the other day I was bored and did one which came up with a line albeit negative. Up thread I posted the progression it had been getting stronger but I did one at 6pm and it was very faint so I’m wondering if I had the surge during the day today and have missed it with the OPK! I’m going to do another one later this evening and if it’s still faint I’ll assume it’s happened and hope we can catch it, unlikely though as DP at work till Friday night. After tonight I won’t test again until I’ve had my first AF and a sort of cycle to work from. Only from my experience I would say you probably ovulated around 30th and since then you are out of that phase but I am by no means an expert!

Totally @Lola871 even now I’m off the pill and we are ‘trying’ I’m still having the odd pang of oh my god are we doing the right thing. We want to renovate the house and travel some more but realistically I’m not getting younger, will be 33 in February and I am scared of waiting another couple of years and missing the boat. I also feel ready now to take the leap in hopefully being a mum although I am totally terrified at the idea haha! This will be our only one though, we already have SDD and I just can’t imagine having more than 2 so I want to enjoy the whole process, even all this OPK malarkey!

@belle1118 welcome to the thread! Lovely group of us on here Smile

@rhirhibumblebee Hmm that’s weird with the spotting, our bodies are strange things aren’t they!

@Ginger87 I haven’t really changed much to be honest, I don’t drink much anyway but haven’t totally given up alcohol as I also don’t want to live a totally different lifestyle! I’m with the poster who said about all the people who end up accidentally pregnant! I am taking my vitamins but still drinking far too much tea and my work is super stressful so not ideal but hey ho! Plenty of people have babies in much less ideal situations, I’m sure I’ll change things if I’m not pregnant in a few months although DP keeps telling me I will be Grin

@Florence13 I think a few of us have the same one step tests from amazon, think it’s £4.98 for 30!

Thanks @switcharoo makes sense now! I definitely see something on there but it’s very faint! Hopefully others can see it too Smile
Let us know if you test again in the morning!

EffRam · 08/01/2020 21:03

@switcharoo I can definitely see a line!! But 4dpo is crazy early... (You're making me want to test way too soon haha!). Hope there's a stronger line tomorrow!

Spark27 · 08/01/2020 21:04

@switcharoo, I think I can see a really faint line too. It almost looks like a shadow, so I'm not 100% sure. I know people talk about evaporation lines too, but I'm not really sure what they are. I'd like to be sensible and say you should wait a few more days at least and try..... but then I'm pretty sure I wouldn't!

I OPK'd again just to put my mind at rest and it's now around 22, so I guess I'm officially in the TWW. Urgh. I hate it. But happy to have the DTD pressure off.

Welcome to all the new people. So lovely to have a nice bunch of us.

yoomoo · 08/01/2020 21:08

P.s. I meant to add earlier sorry to all the people who now have visions of sperm hanging around on street corners up there, I was just reading something to say they can live for up to 5 days which for some reason amused me greatly but also left me wondering where do they go because I’m pretty sure I lose most of it after Grin

ablisha · 08/01/2020 21:11

@yoomoo 8 I teach some Sex Ed lessons to Year 9 at work and our resources say 5-7 days!!

lucymagoo · 08/01/2020 21:12

Sounds like we are in the same boat @yoomoo,

I actually managed to dig the other two OPKs I've done this past week out of the bathroom bin and they aren't actually blank, I guess I just didn't wait long enough. Have tracked them in an app so I can keep an eye but they actually all look pretty similar so not sure what to think. Going to have to start doing them daily from now on to get a pattern

lucymagoo · 08/01/2020 21:13

@switcharoo I can definitely see something! Which seems wildly early at 4dpo but crazier things have happened

Lola871 · 08/01/2020 21:23

@switcharoo definitely something there! Keep us updated!

@yoomoo I'm also turning 33 this year (in September) and feel like we shouldn't leave it too much longer in case it takes a long time / we decide we want more than one etc. I guess because I've never felt really broody that I go round in circles so much!

rhirhibumblebee · 08/01/2020 21:28

@Spark27 Maybe! I've not really heard of it before until I googled it today! Hopefully that's what it is.

@switcharoo I see what you mean!! See what FMU comes out like. Fingers crossed for you!!

@yoomoo 😂🙈I think they are pretty fast. I know what you mean though!!

yoomoo · 08/01/2020 21:45

@ablisha 5-7 days! Wow mind blown I’m now very intrigued and shall go into a black hole in the internet understanding what they are up to 😂

Well I’ve officially given up on OPKs until I get my first AF, just did another one and the line is really feint so my eyes have either been playing tricks on me with thinking the line was getting stronger or I missed it with a test.
Either way I have zero clue if I am ovulating in the next day or so, I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that we can catch it Friday or the little blighters from Sunday are still hanging around with not much to do Grin

Hmmmm even more confused now Confused

switcharoo · 08/01/2020 22:09

Maybe TMI but when we were trying for DS1 after DTD (doing the deed) I would lie with my legs up on the headboard and a hard pillow under my hips for 10mins or so Grin definitely killed any romance after but I'm convinced it helped us conceive him quickly!

ablisha · 08/01/2020 22:10

@switcharoo I've read this somewhere else too!

eitak22 · 08/01/2020 22:30

@switcharoo I've read lots of people do that. Does remind me of friends with phoebe sitting upside down with the triplets!

@yoomoo glad I'm not the only one guessing the acronyms. Think I've got most now (if you're not logged in Mumsnet has italics for them)

I'm waiting for AF atm, should be in next few days according to the app and going off previous cycle. Fortunately I dont drink so that wont be a flag to people but going decaf on coffee may be!

switcharoo · 09/01/2020 07:52

Tested again this morning and absolutely a BFN so must have been an evap or something else but it was so faint. Never mind I just need to learn to be patient!!

Florence13 · 09/01/2020 08:39

@switcharoo so sorry to hear that although still it super early days.

@yoomoo thanks will have a look on Amazon.

I have only been off the pill a week but desperately want a sign of anything happening. So much for taking a relaxed approach haha.

FootballAndBeer145 · 09/01/2020 09:17

@yoomoo thank you, I hate going to the doctors for what seems like silly things. If no Af I'm going to do another test on Sunday ( week after the last one) then if negative still, call the doctors and be seen

Kstar321 · 09/01/2020 10:05

Hello everyone 😊

Quick question re AF once coming off the pill. I’ve read a lot about your first period after coming off the pill, being a withdrawal bleed, not a period as such. Does this remain the same even if you’ve stopped your pill at the end if a pack and had your usual withdrawal bleed. So basically, I stopped my pill dec 17th, had my withdrawal bleed as usual and then today I’ve started bleeding again. Is this a normal period? Or withdrawal? Sorry for all the questions, just obviously trying to work out when I’m ovulating going forward!

lucymagoo · 09/01/2020 14:16

@Kstar321 I think that would be a normal period if you've had your withdrawal. I don't know about others but I'm on the mini pill so don't have a break or period between packets.

EffRam · 09/01/2020 14:42

@Kstar321 really hard to say, I would have said this could maybe be withdrawal bleeding but it could be a period... that's not much use is it! Sorry!

@Ginger87 honestly I found the best way when pregnant was just to take a drink as normal and either my husband would happily dispose of it or I would have a sip or two and nurse it. I drove more which was a good excuse. Or I would get the round in and order a 'cocktail' or a tonic - I found bar staff enjoyed the challenge when I explained the situation to make me a drink that looked real, and often tried to make it taste real too! I think excuses like antibiotics make it more obvious tbh.

However, we also decided that if people asked outright, or it was a situation I really obviously had to decline a drink/blue cheese etc we wouldn't lie. We just quickly said yes but very early days so we aren't getting excited yet, and then changed the subject and found people were respectful of that. I guess my feelings were these were friends that I would want the support of if anything did happen, and telling people doesn't make it more likely that something will go wrong... if that makes sense.
