I thought I'd start a new thread as the other one is full. Sorry if I've missed anyone out.

I have a slightly embarrassing situation. I need to drop my BMI a little bit for IVF (in view of my million and one causes of infertility).

My appointment was this week, but I've delayed it 2-3 weeks as I have a few more kg to go. (Like 3-4.)

Kicking myself! I'm a doctor. I know better. I could have gone along anyway, but I'd feel better doing it properly.

Lina365 · 22/01/2020 09:39

@Mrs71 Congratulations! I can't remember if I said that already, but congrast again in case I did! :)

@FlapJackered Great news, hope the transfer goes well!

I've been quiet because I've not had much energy to talk about this. We had 2 IUIs, no BFP, and it's become clear now that my partner's sperm count isn't good enough for us to continue with IUI. We'll be put in the queue for IVF or even ICSI now.

I decided that this experience will make me stronger - there's no other way to deal with this. I also signed up for a boxing course. I couldn't think of a more suitable form of letting off steam!

FlapJackered · 23/01/2020 09:48

One top grade embryo transferred and 2 Frosties! 😁 So happy, couldn't have asked for more. I just have to keep my fingers crossed for the next week. Testing is on 31st. 🤞🤞🤞

@Lina365 sorry to hear the IUis didn't work but good to have a plan of action. If it helps I have found the ivf process much easier than I anticipated.
Boxing sounds like a really good idea!

@ValidUser sorry to hear you've had to delay your appointment, I was in a similar position before my appointment but the other way. It is really frustrating but as you say, better to get it right first.

@RosettaR I am sorry you're having a hard time. It is horrible to feel like your taking steps back. Will your DH really not be moved on paying for the private tests? What is the wait if you go with nhs?

starkid · 23/01/2020 12:02

@FlapJackered brilliant news! Grin

RosettaR · 23/01/2020 19:20

@FlapJackered thats fantastic, I'm so happy for you! Hopefully the fact that you've got two in the freezer will mean you can relax this week. I'm sure the 31st will come round really quickly.

I think today we probably will end up paying. I'm going back to see the consultant tomorrow to beg and plead over timescales, but today I got told I won't even be allocated an appointment until next week and at that point it's a 6 week wait, so that's really 8 weeks in total. I feel bad spending so much money but then I just think what's money even for? Plenty of people I work with probably spend that much every year to go skiing! I just need to talk my DH round somehow because I don't feel I can do this without his buy in.

ValidUser · 23/01/2020 22:41

@FlapJackered crossing everything for you!

And thank you for your encouragement.

This thread is wonderful!

ValidUser · 24/01/2020 18:25

In good news, my AMH has actually improved in the last year!

starkid · 24/01/2020 20:09

@ValidUser - woopwoop! It's always good for news of things to be improving on this thread :) I need to ask about AMH at my specialist appointment.
Also, pretty sure I have low B12. Going to hopefully have a doc appointment Monday morning then blood test to confirm but I'm showing a lot of the symptoms right now, and due to having large parts of my intestines removed, am susceptible to it... and what are one of the side affects of low B12? Temporary infertility! Envy so fingers crossed will actually be getting somewhere with all this in the next few weeks! Course might not be it, but would make sense...

KatBeCool · 24/01/2020 20:10

@FlapJackered three good embryos is fantastic! Fingers crossed.
As for me, I'm trying Clomid again this month. Hopefully it works this time.

@Lina365

@RosettaR that's exactly what money is for! Imagine ten years from now, sitting in a pile of money and nothing achieved. Hopefully you get your answers soon.

@ValidUser congrats on amh!

@Lina365 I'm sorry IUI didn't work for you. What were your DH numbers?

PineappleC · 25/01/2020 10:30

Thank you all for your kind words 💕 You guys have been so supportive and really glad i found this group 😊 It is a really testing time. DH and I have talked, and it's all fine, but he still seems to think this IVF is guaranteed - he keeps referring to this baby that we're having in November and the morning sickness that I'm "going to have" in the spring. It's like it's a done deal in his head which I don't really agree with, and so I'm feeling the pressure a bit! Any way, only a week left on the pill and I can then start the next bit 🤞

@FlapJackered that's fantastic! If I got 3 good embryos I'd be over the moon! I've been following the other thread too and sounds like things are going really well for you, I am really keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

@ValidUser congrats! That must be really good to hear! Have you done anything specific to try and increase it?

@starkid Hope you get some answers! I am taking a high dose Vit B (for a short luteal phase), seems to have helped!

@RosettaR Sorry to hear that. All the waiting is so frustrating! I would probably pay too , as I am eternally impatient, but you're right it seems so unfair that we have to shell out so much for all this stuff, when getting pregnant is "free" and so much easier for most. Hope you get some answers soon

Xx

ValidUser · 25/01/2020 12:12

@PineappleC no! I've been taking pre conception vitamins of many brands (whatever was cheapest) and tried a bit of acupuncture and didn't like it, but otherwise it just happened!

ValidUser · 25/01/2020 13:14

Off topic, I'm 30 today!

FlapJackered · 26/01/2020 06:06

Happy belated birthday @ValidUser !! 🎂🎉
A great birthday present to hear your AMH has gone up! I didn't realise that was even possible.

@RosettaR how did it go with the consultant? I think you're right about the money, I think when you compare spending that money on making a family compared to a holiday etc there is no contest.

@starkid that sounds promising with the b12? Hopefully you will get some answers with the blood test.

@KatBeCool that's great you're back on the clomid again. I will keep everything crossed for you! 🤞

@PineappleC I can understand it's hard when your DH is so sure it will work, but maybe he is right and it will work first time? Some people say a really positive attitude can effect outcomes. I am definitely in the prepare for the worst, hope for the best camp though so I totally get your feelings about it!

FlapJackered · 26/01/2020 06:08

I just googled 'no symptoms in tww, sign of pregnancy' 🤦🏼‍♀️ someone take my phone away!

PineappleC · 26/01/2020 08:39

@Flapjackered yes, totally agree and I've read that too. I wish I could share his positivity. I guess I'm feeling neutral rather than negative - this is our best ever shot so I absolutely see that it could work, I just can't quite make myself believe it's a definite.

And I totally wouldn't worry about no symptoms, it's still really early plus some people never get symptoms. But completely understand the Googling. I think I'm gonna need to take the internet away when I get there 😅

@validuser happy belated birthday! Hope you had a lovely day! That's great that amh went up of its own accord😊. I also didn't realise that could happen!

ValidUser · 26/01/2020 12:01

Thanks @FlapJackered and @PineappleC. Technically I can't have more eggs, but I'm hoping the score means they might be more inclined to make themselves available? Either way, it's good to know I'm not running out. It's not a great score for my age, but it's ok.

KatBeCool · 27/01/2020 20:55

@FlapJackered you might and to give it more than a few days to even think about symptoms 😂

My triglycerides are really high, likely due to TSH. I had it tested again and it's 2.07, so my gp is going to increase my dose again by just a little bit. For some reason my cholesterol is super high. I don't even know why. I'm normal weight, go to the gym, eat more or less healthy. They say taking oestrogen prescription can raise both. It's like a f*ing trap. I don't know what to do. We'd love to adopt, but that is close to impossible unless I want a special needs child. This stupid Clomid better work, I can't be jostling my hormones anymore.

ValidUser · 27/01/2020 23:39

@KatBeCool when I was 19 and underweight, my LDL cholesterol was through the roof.

At 30 and slightly overweight, all my lipids are perfect.

The human body is weird.

KatBeCool · 28/01/2020 04:28

@ValidUser go figure... Although until I started ttc, my lipids were always perfect. How's your weight loss going?

RosettaR · 28/01/2020 17:43

@FlapJackered and @PineappleC thanks so much for your support, it really helps! I'm still waiting for a date for the tests on the nhs, going privately it would now be 22 Feb, so that basically means ivf in June at the earliest. I'm really anxious as it's out of my control now, as the clinic won't do the ivf until they have a letter from the consultant confirming the tests are OK, and I've no idea how long that will take. The only good news is that all our blood tests apart from HIV and hepatitis are valid for two years so were not quite back at square 1 with the ivf. She also said they have women with hayfever doing ivf all the time and it's not know to affect the success rates, it will just make you feel doubly crap. I'm regretting not going ahead with the ivf to be honest, I knew whatever I did I would end up regretting it. Sorry for the rant everyone.

@KatBeCool why is adoption impossible apart from a special needs child? I had been hoping adoption might be a possibility if all this fails. I like to have a backup plan!

FlapJackered · 29/01/2020 06:34

@RosettaR i am sorry it is going to take so long. It will go more quickly than you think though and I think you're right to go with your gut and get it sorted. You don't want to wonder if that is what caused an ivf cycle not to work. X
Also @KatBeCool interested to hear why you think you'd only be able to adopt a special needs child?

Still no symptoms and only 2 days left before testing day. Definitely feel it hasn't worked, but feeling quite calm about it now.

KatBeCool · 29/01/2020 07:21

@FlapJackered I guess I should now share the fact that I'm not in the UK and the main reason I'm here is because I can't stand the people on the local boards and couldn't find much support. Adoption here costs an exuberant amount, at a minimum an average yearly salary, and the wait is 3 or more years. International adoptions are a bit cheaper but not by much and mainly only the special needs children are available.

@RosettaR is it known that your condition might interfere with ivf or pregnancy? There has to be some research information available online providing some insight. Hopefully you're in the clear regardless of the tests.

starkid · 29/01/2020 09:04

@FlapJackered - got all my fingers crossed for you!
@RosettaR - hoping your tests come back quickly now - I think as much as it's not heard that hayfever would affect IVF, you'd have always blamed it if you didn't get it checked out beforehand and wasn't successful xx

I'm having a blood test tomorrow due to the lightheaded/fatigue/weakness/brain fog I'm still getting on and off every day. The doctor said he'll test for 'everything', as my blood pressure and heart rate were fine, so that will be interesting to get back next week sometime. It might shed a light on fertility problems which might not have been considered yet. Hopefully it's something simple...

PineappleC · 30/01/2020 08:27

@Flapjackered I have everything crossed for your test tomorrow too! 🤞 I bet it will be great to just have the wait over with, I can't imagine how long the TWW feels on this!

@Katbecool that's really sad that adoption comes at such a cost where you are. Pretty crappy too, as surely it's best for all if kids get parents without the money-making!

@starkid hope your tes6s go well and you get some answers 😊

I am FINALLY on the nasal spray bit of my IVF procedure 🎉 Its been a long 3 weeks. So glad I don't have to take the pill any more as that seemed such a "backward" step! It came out of my nose a bit the first time but hope that doesn't matter too much!

RosettaR · 30/01/2020 19:34

@FlapJackered all the best for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you. I don't think the lack of symptoms really means anything, how many months have I had symptoms and not been pregnant!

@starkid I hope you get some answers from your tests, maybe they will find something that's been missed before that you can work on.

@PineappleC glad you are moving forward and feeling more positive. I did wonder how the sniffer drug would feel, it's a bit of a strange idea.

@KatBeCool that's a shame adoption doesn't seem to be an option where you are. We will consider that if all this fails, but having done some reading it sounds quite a difficult process even here in the UK. At this point I find it hard to imagine I'll have the energy left for something like that!
