Hi, i have just got married and we are ttc our first! We started about 2 years ago but then my husband had an accident and we stopped then we were planning a wedding so we only just started again 3 months ago. I am 39 and my OH is 40. I'm a bit worried about my age and what steps I should be taking etc. Any advice or someone to chat to in the same boat would be lovely as I feel really alone on this journey xx

I'm also TTC at 39. I've had three pregnancies - one 8 year old daughter and 2xMC.

Am keeping an eye on my weight, eating more greens, taking pre natal vitamins and DTD every other day in my fertile window. Trying not to get too sucked into tracking but feel like time is against me!

Good luck, hope we get our BFPs

Smile

I'm 38 and a half and trying for my first! On cycle 4 of TTC this month. About to ovulated, if my OPKs are correct.

Bezalelle · 14/09/2019 19:49

*ovulate

Hi I posted something similar today, I'm in a similar situation as you as in my age and being a bit worried.
I'm 39, 40 in November DH is 46. I Have DS 17 from previous relatonship and DD 20 months with DH. DS is leaving for uni next year and I really dont want DD to grow up as an 'only' child so we decided to ttc again.
We've only just started ttc but I've got very short cycles and I'm having blood tests to check FSH levels because when I was ttc DD my levels were elevated. We still concieved naturally so it wasn't an issue at the time. But now I'm worried my shortend cycles will mean FSH levels are higher and I might be starting early menopause. Definitely feeling like time is against me, hoping I'll feel better after blood test results.

Nicsfh80 · 14/09/2019 21:37

I haven't had any tests done yet, I don't really know much about them! Im booked into a fertility clinic in a couple of weeks so hoping to find out more then. My cycles are about 26 days, not sure if that is too short or not!!

OP posts:
Maybebaby2 · 14/09/2019 22:52

I had tests done last time after 6 cycles of ttc, I'm having them done straight away this time because of the high levels last time. GP's usually won't do them till after 6 months of ttc. So I wouldn't worry about that till after or around 6 months. I should also say I got my bfp on cycle 7 last time, right after I'd had the 'bad' news about menopause levels. So it doesn't mean its impossible, I just want to know if things have changed or progressed to a point thats going to make it extremely difficult.
Also 26 days is completely normal cycle length. The worry with me is they suddenly changed, dropped from 28 days to 24 days and AF is much shorter going down to just 3-4 days. So its more that things have notably changed and I've also read that a shorter cycle can make implantation more difficult.
Really hoping we all get our bfp's soon, is anyone due AF before the end of this month?x

sabtom · 15/09/2019 12:01

Hi! I'm 39, OH 40. Been TTC #1 for about 9 months, just got a peak OPK this morning so fingers crossed this is our month! I've had all the tests done, not excellent levels but ok. Still waiting for results of OH SA. We're booked into the fertility clinic for November so hoping nature beats us to it before we need help, cause I was told once you reach 40 NHS no longer gives funding for any fertility help Sad

my cycles range from 24-27 days, and I usually ovulate around day 13/14 but I got my peak this morning and it's already CD15 for me Hmm I've been on folic acid from the beginning but only in the past month I've been taking a cocktail of vitamins cause it turns out I'm quite deficient in a few things. So now I'm taking the Pregnacare supplements, on top of 5mg of folic acid (I'm T1 diabetic so need the extra strength) 210mg of iron cause I'm slightly anemic, vitamin D and vitamin b complex. So maybe this has caused my ovulation to be a little later than normal?

Nicsfh80 · 15/09/2019 17:12

Thanks, it's really nice to hear from people in the same situation. I have bought an ovulation kit, pregnacare and pre seed and I've booked an appointment at a fertility clinic for 1st Oct and reflexology next week! Last day of AF was yesterday so maybe this will be our month! Fingers crossed for you all too Smile

Just had 1st blood test today this one just to check if I ovulated this month, I'm pretty sure I did so not too worried. Next blood test for FSH is next week, it's got to be taken during AF, I'm assuming AF will arrive on time unless a miracle happens an we get bfp on 1st cycle... thats not going to happen though so yeah bloods next week.
@sabtom I dont know enough to say if that could have been affecting you ovulating but taking all those vitamins an iron to get everything at a good level has hot to be a good thing. Need to start taking some myself! Is that true about not getting any help if you are over 40?
@Nicsfh80 I've heard reflexology is meant to work wonders Smile

Just thought another thing with me is I have a tilted pelvis and apparently that can affect ttc. I need to read up on it again because I've forgotten what it was exactly but I remember being told it could perhaps be an issue.

sabtom · 16/09/2019 13:29

@Maybebaby2 My doctor said once I reach 40 I wouldn't be eligible for NHS funding, maybe it's different in different areas of the UK? I'm in Lambeth SW London.

Nicsfh80 · 16/09/2019 15:34

Yes I've heard that NHS don't find IVF once you turn 40! I'm going for an appointment at a private clinic as they can sometimes bump you up the NHS queue!!

OP posts:
Maybebaby2 · 17/09/2019 16:33

Well I'll have missed the boat for any funding, I'm in the North West but its probably the same policy across the country. Not sure if I want to go down the IVF route. I haven't given it that much thought yet, one step at a time for me and the blood results are 1st. 🤞

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 17/09/2019 17:49

I Would check with your local NHS group as many places you have to be under 36 now for NHS IVF

Whyhaveidonethis · 17/09/2019 19:27

Our local nhs cut off is 39.

I'm ttc #4 with a new partner. I'm 41 next month. I've had 3 pregnancies since May but all turned out to be chemicals. My FSH level is high but everything else is good. Been ttc for 13 months now. Feel like I'm never going to get a sticky bean.

Icouldstillbejoseph · 18/09/2019 17:09

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️
I’m 40 and ttc 3rd child (Ds 8 and DD 6), new relationship, same old cliche of now deciding I really want another one.
I’m on month 4 of ttc. AF not due yet but I know I’m not pregnant in my gut.
I’ve tried bloody ovulation tests and it never registered anything. Tried pre seed.

Pissed off. Fed up. Know I’m irrational but I don’t care. Want to sulk with you guys please.

Nicsfh80 · 18/09/2019 17:49

Hi, you are welcome to sulk with us! That's how I felt last week but feeling a bit more positive this week! I just starting using my ovulation kit yesterday but it's a bit confusing so think I'll just dtd every other day till the end of next week!
Have you already tried pre seed?

OP posts:
Icouldstillbejoseph · 18/09/2019 18:06

Yep tried pre seed. I'd try drinking cold sick at the moment if I thought it'd work.

Thank you for letting me sulk with you. Is it too early for a little g&t?

Icouldstillbejoseph · 18/09/2019 18:08

Also - Mother Nature is somewhat of a bitch. My periods are never ever irregular until I'm ttc and then I'm sometimes late - just to play with my emotions!

I mean I'm blaming Mother Nature, totally nothing to do with my obsession of course

Whyhaveidonethis · 19/09/2019 07:58

@Nicsfh80 I'm due to ovulate this weekend. I've not used my ovulation sticks this month as I'm trying to relax. My problem is that every time I have sex on ov day I get pregnant. It just never sticks.

Maybebaby2 · 19/09/2019 08:06

Yes totally in agreement with mother nature being a bitch at times!... Here's one for your Thursday morning... tmi but nevermind, so the lat 10 weeks of my pregnancy with dd I had the worst reoccurring yeast infection, it was constant and nothing worked. I never had it before and it went as soon as dd was born, not had it again in the 21 months since. So 1st cycle of ttc and I've woken up this morning with a yeast infection! Oh the joys and I i know im not pregnant so it just my bodys way of laughing at me, oh you are ttc again ok heres a little present for you!
Next cycle I'm going to take things seriously, cut out sugar, I hardly drink anyway so thats not an issue, start taking vitamins etc I'm obviously not at peak health so need to try better 🙈

Maybebaby2 · 19/09/2019 08:16

@Whyhaveidonethis is there any advice you've been given as to why you are not getting a sticky bean, has gp advised anything you can do or just to keep trying?x

Whyhaveidonethis · 19/09/2019 08:57

Gp has been useless. Told me he doesn't understand my blood results!!!

Janefx40 · 19/09/2019 09:39

Good luck to everyone. I was 40 when we started TTC. Am now 42 and have an 8 month old little girl. Obviously it does get harder to conceive as you get older due to hormones but every woman is different and, annoying as it sounds, it really does only take one good egg and one good sperm so it is more than possible. 39 isn't that old anyway!! I know it feels old when you are there but when you get to 42 it sounds young!!

IVF availability varies in different areas which is terribly unfair. I was entitled to 2 NHS rounds over the age of 40 and there was no waiting list in my area either (north London). I had my appointment in the February at gynae and an IVF appointment in March. A private clinic won't bump you up the NHS list but getting your tests done promptly after 6 months of trying will help.

The one thing I did that I'm grateful for, was to get help promptly at the 6 month point rather than keeping trying. It turned out we did have a problem so would have wasted time.

A book worth reading is It Starts with an Egg. It talks about supplements and diet based on the (limited) research evidence that exists. Personally I took Vit D and Ubiquinol (the good quality stuff) but no idea if it helped.

I hope it works out for you all. It can be a really stressful time I know Xxx

Janefx40 · 19/09/2019 09:42

@Icouldstillbejoseph I was the same. Nothing like TTC to mess up your cycles. It's so bizarre

Nicsfh80 · 19/09/2019 09:56

Whyhaveidobethis that must be so hard for you! Don't know how I'd cope with that. Janefx40 the waiting list in Northern Ireland is 18 months and you only get 1 go under 40 and nothing over 40! The private fertility clinic has just bumped my friend up the list and she is going next month after waiting 6 months instead of 18! Not really fair for people who can't afford to start of private but that's the way it is.
Yip Mother Nature is a bitch and so is work! If I'm right I'll be ovulating this weekend and my OH is working days and I'm working nights! Angry
