New ttc no1 thread.

BTW if anyone knows where those no1 babies are I'd like to know! If I was a real detective I think I would have been sacked by now!

That's ok then How are you today?

OP posts:
nomoremagnolia · 25/08/2007 18:28

Right, I need some fantasy retail therapy - what shall we go looking for?

OP posts:
PiggyPenguin · 25/08/2007 18:30

I love fantasy shopping, I'm really good at it!! I think its a librarian thing that I like to be organised and I have to know what I'm going to get in advance.

I don't understand that whole thing about not buying anything for the baby before its born. I can understand that its a really common superstition but I had to have everything ready, and buying everything is so much fun, how can you wait?!!

As for knowing about the whole parenting thing, I'm not sure how much help I will be but hey! I love to chat.

nomoremagnolia · 25/08/2007 18:40

oooh goodie, another shopper What shall we shop for then?

PiggyPenguin · 25/08/2007 19:19

I really love the whole 'nursery theme' stuff, where you can spend a fortune somewhere like vertbaudet and have the perfect nursery. And I really like the look of their stuff which is so different to Mothercare or the high street.

I could spend sooooooooooo much money there. And then I would have the perfect nursey, but dh would be

nomoremagnolia · 25/08/2007 21:10

Ok, here's my list:

buggy loola with car seat and carrycot, though not in orange!

changing bag skip hop bag like the stripey one...

bed nature's nest or bedside cot

bedding winnie the pooh

Bouncy chair winnie the pooh

There's more, but I'm going from memory at the moment! Show me all your choices for these items.

OP posts:
PiggyPenguin · 25/08/2007 21:41

wow, that's not bad from memory! i love the baby nest I haven't seen that before, but I already have cot bed and moses basket from other dc so I don't think I can swing new big gear. I am in total accord over the bouncy chair, I had a vibrating Winnie one from Mothercare for the first two and it was excellent. It does help get them off to sleep and the hanging toys are new from when I first bought mine, but a really good idea.

I am currently going for soft furnishings like this www.vertbaudet.co.uk/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=V702303018&&DocumentId=V329&&CompanyId=V&& Path=911%2f1145%2f1149&&source= although obviously for a girl only!! there are toys light fittings etc to go with it. I know its hugely pink, but the boy version is equally adorable.

Ready · 26/08/2007 12:03

That vertbaudet stuff looks really cool. I didn't want to linger too long as I was getting all wistful Thanks for the link sybil nomore - I had never seen the loola before, I like it (not orange either) - I think the only thing that I wouldn't like is the lack of a crossbar handle.

With regards to changing bag... I had always had this thought that I would buy something funky from accessorise, so that I didn't have a regular changing bag - something different. Less mumsy. Do I sound odd?

Hadn't really thought about bedding... I don't know that I will go for a theme, just pale colours and lots of mixing and matching.

I love that nature's nest... totally something I would like to have. How much is it?

nomoremagnolia · 26/08/2007 15:16

Hi ready

I like the loola in square abyss - light blue. I would ideally like one with a cross bar handle, but the reason this is such a good choice for me is that it folds really small with the seat attached (and facing either way) which a lot of the other ones that can face either way don't do . The other thing the loola doesn't have is a very good shopping basket, but I've come to the conclusion that there is not a perfect buggy out there!

I agree about the bag, but I thought these were a good compromise, though I might get DH to get me one from the states when he goes - they're $50 in US and £50 here! I like how it attaches to the buggy but also is a messenger style bag too. The colours are a bit more sophisticated than most baby changing bags too

The nature's nest is about £150 and will last til baby is 12 months old (or 29lbs).

Am busy today ripping out bedroom furniture and putting in new, but have found my shopping list whilst clearing up, so if I get back on again later today I'll share the rest with you (bet you can't wait )

OP posts:
Ready · 26/08/2007 16:20

Hope you are having fun. I agree with you on the pram, the perfect one doesn't exist. But the bugaboo comes close
I do like the look of the loola, but wouldn't be able to budge on the handle.
Do share the rest of your list with us

nomoremagnolia · 26/08/2007 16:33

I do like the bug but I think having to take it apart every time would do my head in! We're almost there with the bedroom, just at the stage of trying to find a home for all the bits that don't have a home and have lived on top of the units for the last six months!

OP posts:
nomoremagnolia · 26/08/2007 17:48

Have finished bedroom for the day - we've managed to find the bed again, so we've got somewhere to sleep!

So here's the next installment of my shopping list...

Feeding (would like to BF if poss) this pump gets the best reviews and I like the re-useable storage pots, steriliser that fits pump and food warmer you can get these as a set here but I haven't worked out if the set is good value or full of stuff I don't need!

Highchair: has to be the tripp trapp

Bath stuff more winnie the pooh

Changing mat oh, is it winnie the pooh again?

nappies: want to use re-useable ones, these are my fave at the moment, but I'm still researching this one...

Toys etc love the M&P baby stuff

Is that enough for now??

OP posts:
Ready · 26/08/2007 18:27

oooooh.... yay. Brew in hand, relax and look at all your links

nomoremagnolia · 26/08/2007 18:58

Am being tempeted by the bug again - DH now thinks they're great and he loves the name too! He also thinks he could get one in the US too, so it'll be cheaper (about £450). Talking of names we agreed a new dd name yesterday as previous favourite is now so popular we don't want to use it

OP posts:
Ready · 26/08/2007 19:07

How cute are those reusables - have you sat and worked out how expensive it will be? I am really keen to use reusables, but daren't sit and work out how much it is going to cost just yet. Obviously they say that in the long run it works out cheaper - but don't you have to keep buying bigger ones as they grow? Apologies for being a total dunce if I am asking a daft question.

Something tells me, you love Winne the Pooh Nomore - the bath stuff is soooo cute

Thanks for sharing

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 19:13

You're right about WTP - this is one of my MN names, though everyone knows me as nomore now, so I don't use it very often.
I only like the classic WTP stuff though, not disney (I am a WTP snob )

Ready · 26/08/2007 19:16

Go for the BUG!!! YAY!! I really want to. If I can persuade DH that it isn't a total waste of money.

What is the name that you have decided against?

Right. I better stop sitting here on MN and go and make tea

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 20:02

The name we're not too sure about using is Charlotte. It's a name DH and I both liked when we first talked about our kids names (about 6 months after we'd met ) but over the past 7 years it's become really popular, so we were talking about names in the car yesterday and I suggested one I love but that I thought DH wouldn't like and he loved it!

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 20:03

DH has just offered to get you one in the states too He's reading over my shoulder!

PiggyPenguin · 26/08/2007 20:16

So, don't keep us in suspense, what's the name? We also considered Charlotte but it has become very very popular.

I really like Genevieve for a girl, Evie for short, but dh is not keen. I appreciate its one of those names you either love or hate but I love it.

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 20:21

Not too sure about sharing it, don't want to curse it like the last one. Will tell you once I'm pg and kno it's a dd.
Like Genevieve - my sis had a childhood freind called Genevieve. Have recently read a book with a character called Evangeline - which was shortened to Eve/Evie, which I also liked.

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 20:22

know obviously

bearofverylittlebrain · 26/08/2007 20:23

and friend...

PiggyPenguin · 26/08/2007 20:23

Also, the avent isis pump is really good. I have used this for both of mine while b-feeding and would definitely recommend it.

PiggyPenguin · 26/08/2007 20:26

Yeah, I like Evangeline too, not as much as Genevieve but still good. I really like Evie and so does dh, its the long version he's not sure off, but I reckon that a good few months of dropping it casually into conversations and he'll just get used to it.

I have already begun this strategy and it is working...
