How exciting to have taken your last pill! I started with just folic acid as well and when that ran out a couple of weeks ago I started the seven seas trying for a baby tablets, a few reviews said they had helped to regulate cycles so thought they were worth a try!

I tried OPKs for 2 cycles when I came off the pill, I never got a positive but my cycles were so long at that point that it was probably just that I either wasn’t ovulating or wasn’t using them at the right time. I definitely think it’s a good idea to wait a cycle or 2 first as they are a bit of a faff!

zinrepus · 24/09/2019 15:49

We're moving from the home counties back up to Scotland. We've got a three month wait for coil removal and my town has no clinics that would do it as they're student-focused. So since we figured we'd only get one month's notice before we move, we'd just wait until we're up there. Plus it's probably the best motivation I have to ensure I register at a new GP quickly.

I've been taking the folic acid for two months now, had to go get a new bottle! I've also been taking calcium and vitamin D as well as a multi-vitamin, but I'll be stopping that one once we get to the end of the bottle, as your standard multi has one of the ones you're not supposed to have too much of during conception.

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 16:35

Hi, can I join please? Smile

Like you, OP, I'm 35 and like you, I'm a bit concerned about age too. I have a thread running around this actually and have to say, majority of posters were 35 plus when TTC and most didn't have big issues.

We're a ss couple, so require some swimmers Grin We were probably going to start trying early next year using a donor- Jan/Feb time, whilst I load up on vitamins and get myself a bit healthier, although I'm not going to be too strict about it, as I've heard so many stories of women struggling TTC, do everything "right", no alcohol, no sugar...no fun Grin and can't conceive, but when they relax and don't try anymore, they get pregnant! Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a good idea to get fit and healthy, but not in an obsessive way..iyswim.

I have fertility tests in a couple of months (earliest appointment I could get!) and we shall take it from there- I.e, do we give IUI a go or should we go straight to IVF.

What supplements is everyone taking in preparation? I hear 3 months is a good amount of time to be taking these before
TTC, as that's how long your body takes to generate more eggs. It's been about a month for me. I'm currently taking folic acid, magnesium and ubiquinol. Was thinking I should add vitamin c and zinc, but I don't want to end up rattling 😅

Anyway, hello to all my fellow soon to be TTCers 🙋‍♀️

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 16:36

Not sure where that last emoji came from, but ok Smile

Bims2019 · 25/09/2019 08:34

@MrsB25 thank you for the tip about seven seas, I'll see how I get on with just the folic acid for now as I've still got half a tub. If it looks like cycles are taking a little while to settle then I might switch and see if that helps :) and same with OPKs, could probably do without the faff at this point. I used to be really regular pre-pill but that is probably wishful thinking now! Has it taken your cycles long to settle down?

Welcome @nobigotsallowed! I'm new too and am taking folic acid in preparation, like you probably looking to start trying early next year. Have you started looking for a donor yet? Rightly or wrongly I'm not going to give up alcohol, sugar or caffeine over the next few months, I think I would go mad! Completely understand why some people do though, I am definitely going to try and focus on being healthier, cutting down on alcohol and eating better, going to the gym etc. Really want to enjoy this time and be relaxed about it, I'm saying this now but it might be different in a few weeks time!

MilsCookie · 25/09/2019 14:17

Hey all Smile

Hope I’m not too late to join? I’m 30, DP is 31 and we’re hoping to TTC at the start of next year. We’re currently travelling at the moment and we’ve said that once we’re back (in December) then we’ll start trying.

I have been off the pill for over a year (we’ve been using an app and condoms around ovulation time for protection) and my cycles are regular (around 33-34 days). I want to make sure my body is as ready as it can be before we start TTC, so I was wondering if you have done anything else other than take pregnancy vitamins in preparation?

Smile
MrsB25 · 25/09/2019 18:18

@Bims2019 I stopped taking the pill in Feb and have had really long, irregular cycles since then until the most recent which was 30 days. So I’m hoping for another couple of shorter cycles now and for that to become normal! It’s been really frustrating not knowing what is going on.

Welcome @nobigotsallowed and @MilsCookie

candlefloozy · 25/09/2019 20:24

So does everyone think it's best to wait for a period after having coil removed or just getting down to it?

zinrepus · 28/09/2019 08:58

@candlefloozy There are a few arguments about this and they differ based on the coil.

Hormonal coils can impact your cycle, so for them the recommendation is to wait a few cycles to let everything "even out" as it we're.

Copper coils, your fertility returns to normal immediately, but giving yourself one cycle allows for more accurate dating.

Dating conception is important because doctors count your pregnancy from the date of your last cycle. However, ovulation can happen 2-4 weeks after that. Medical procedures tend to default to 2 week ovulation calculations. Considering when full term is, two or three weeks can make a difference for inductions, especially for first pregnancies (when people can go into labour on the late side).

So, if you've gotten off a hormonal coil and have had some crazy long cycles (which can happen) but you get pregnant immediately, you may have ovulated 4 weeks into your cycle, which means your doctor may proceed with the understanding you're two weeks further along than you actually are. It's more so you can inform your team of standard cycle length and all that. If that makes sense. The Impatient Woman's Guide to Pregnancy spells it out reasonably clearly, hopefully I didn't muddy the waters. Wink

candlefloozy · 29/09/2019 10:48

@zinrepus thank you. Probably best to wait for a period then

MrsB25 · 04/10/2019 20:16

How is everyone doing?

I finally got a positive OPK today, have not had one before since stopping the pill so feeling hopeful that things are back to normal!

MilsCookie · 05/10/2019 07:06

Hey everyone, so the plan was to start trying after Christmas...but looks like nature had other plans. I am still in shock!!! Slight nightmare because we’re currently travelling in SE Asia and don’t plan to be back in the UK till December. Plans may have to change!

Anyone else starting their TTC journey in next few month?
MrsB25 · 05/10/2019 07:37

Wow congrats @MilsCookie amazing news!! Where abouts in SE Asia are you travelling? We spent 4 weeks in Thailand/Vietnam over summer and loved every minute!

MilsCookie · 05/10/2019 11:32

@MrsB25 thank you!! We’re planning on going to Vietnam and Myanmar, but that’s not until end of November/beginning of Dec. So we’ll see!!

5thResident · 05/10/2019 12:16

We were supposed to start TTC this month, but when they removed my mirena, they found a polyp and it is scheduled for removal at my next ovulationa nd I need minimum 2 weeks healing time, or so I've understood. So, need to wait until the 3rd week of November to TTC. Oh, I'm 37 yrs old.

candlefloozy · 05/10/2019 22:42

My coil will hopefully be out in two weeks time. Dreading the bleeding to be honest.

5thResident · 06/10/2019 07:03

@RedFormica.. maca is supposed to balance your hormobe, and therefore your cycles. On youtube, I really like mamadoctorjones and ingefluer- homeopathic fertility.

zinrepus · 08/10/2019 11:09

Congrats @MilsCookie that's fabulous news! How's everyone else doing?

I'm broody as all get out today (PMS in full swing). Good news: we've had confirmation on the flat we love, so it's full steam ahead for moving one month from today!

That said, I've been finding as we get closer to being in a place to TTC, I get more grumpy that we aren't yet (mostly while I'm PMSing). My practical brain knows that I don't want to be doing all the packing and stuff we're doing while in the early stages of pregnancy (or while trying to ensure we've got a regular DTD schedule), but my angsty self just wants to be starting down that road.

I also realised that I have my final immigration application due at the beginning of December next year...having a baby earlier would be fine and after would be fine, but there's an awkward gap I'll need to ensure we avoid (because if you don't have an in-person appointment, it can take months before you're allowed to leave the country again). Confused Once you start thinking about it, specific dates start standing out on the calendar... Anyone else noticing similar hiccups?

Footymum81 · 08/10/2019 18:22

Hi everyone, can I join you? DH and I are hoping to start ttc in February. I have DD15 and we also have our DS who is 6 1/2 months old. I’ll be turning 38 next month. DS has been exclusively breastfed until the last few weeks when he started solids and my periods have just returned, so the plan is to monitor my cycles until then so we’re trying at the right time of the month! Also by waiting until then we’ll be able to have a nice holiday outside of school holidays (DD sits her GCSEs this June so we can go first week of July) without me being too huge! Both DD and DS were conceived first month trying so we’ve got to be careful until then!

Bims2019 · 09/10/2019 07:59

Hi all, it's been a hectic couple of weeks so I haven't had much time to post. Congratulations @MilsCookie, what a lovely surprise! Do you think you'll head home a bit earlier or wait and see how you feel?

Not much news from me, I had my withdrawal bleed as usual after taking last pill so now I'm in a bit of a waiting game to see what happens this cycle. I did have a break from the pill a couple of years ago and don't think it took too long for periods to settle, but who knows! I'm glad we've got this time anyway as moving is proving to be really stressful. But we will finally be in the new house this weekend, can't wait!

Hope everyone else is doing well?

MrsB25 · 09/10/2019 12:04

Hi everyone, glad you are all doing well, exciting news on the flat @zinrepus and great that you will be moving in so soon.

I’m just sat waiting for my appointment for an ultrasound, my GP referred me due to long cycles. Feels strange waiting for a scan as I always assumed the first time doing this would be when pregnant! Would definitely be a shock if there was a baby in there Grin

I know what you mean with thinking about dates @zinrepus , now that I’ve had a normal cycle and think that I ovulated in this one I’ve been looking at hypothetical due dates 😂 we are hoping to start trying in December, my fertile period will be in between Christmas and new year! Not sure if that’s a good thing or not- lots of drinking and food may not be the most conducive to plenty of DTD!

Izzychar2927 · 09/10/2019 14:54

Hi all
Can I jump in... me 29 and the oh 28 have decided to ttc i have two children already 7 and 9 this will be his first. Am so so excited started my bleed today after coming off the pill just wanted to say hi xx

Nora11 · 09/10/2019 15:27

Hi everyone, have enjoyed reading through your posts and hope noone minds if I jump in! 😊 My partner and I are hoping to start ttc in about 5 months... Which seems like forever away! I am really impatient and can't stop thinking about it. It's frustrating because I just want to do something but we just have to wait really! I have been reading pregnancy/birth related blogs and books constantly and am thinking about having my implant removed in a month or two so I can track my cycles for a bit before we try. I have quite regular periods despite my implant so hopefully they won't take long to settle once it is out. I think I will start taking the seven seas ttc vitamins around December too. I'm so excited but wish I could put time on fast forward! 😂

Bims2019 · 09/10/2019 18:17

How did the scan go, @MrsB25? Wouldn't that be amazing , I've never had one either so must be really strange!

Haha, just think how relaxed you'll be around the festive season Wink is anyone else planning to start trying around December? I think we might do, not really talked about timings yet! Like you @Nora11 I'm keen to get going but still not sure it's quite the right time... Any good books you'd recommend?

Nora11 · 09/10/2019 21:57

Hi @Bims2019, it's hard to know when to start isn't it? We were originally planning to start trying next summer (as we have a holiday booked) but just can't wait that long! So now we are trying to push it as early as possible while still meaning I would most likely be okay to fly for our holiday if we get lucky!

As for books, so far the only one I've read is Happy Mum Happy Baby by Giovanna Fletcher. Its an easy read about her personal experiences and so I felt a bit less crazy reading that rather than something more serious/instructional at this stage, if that makes sense 😂 Though I have plenty more on my to-read list 🙈 here are some I'd like to have a look at...

The Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill
Truly Happy Baby by Holly Willoughby (this one is only £1.50 on Kindle!)
Hypnobirthing: Practical Ways to Make your Birth Better by Siobhan Miller
How to Grow a Baby and Push it out by Clemmie Hooper

I am also curious about the Impatient Woman's Guide to Conception mentioned earlier in the thread so may have to check that out too!
